I discovered your channel when I googled converting a garage into an office, early during the lockdown 2020. Watched how you converted this place and have been a viewer ever since. Great channel, great host, great tools, great content, lovely family. I just love watching your videos as not only do I find them therapeutic but also very inspiring. Thank you !
Thanks going to get my new porch inside fitted with a skirting board & vinyl cushion flooring.Need to get plastering painted as well.Think i should get the plaster painted first though
Wow...a little look back is good it just makes you realise how far you have come..I can’t believe I’ve been watching way before this and although I’ve obviously not been able to help...your are a true inspiration to what is possible...and you inspire me to try things...but would love a tour of Jo’s room if she has time when everything is in place! Loved your little helpers too😉🤗🙋🏻♀️🇬🇧💕jane
I find much easier and accurate to scribe when u cut the end on a 45 like you have butting up the joints... then u simply use a coping saw to cut around the profile, ie where the painted edge meets the 45 angled cut this way the profile is accurate, also u back cut slightly on the coping saw like 15 degrees....
I use a protractor thingy to measure the angle of corners, then set my mitre saw to that angle. It gives a closer mitre joint and hence less filling etc.
The vinyl flooring looks really good. It has come a long way over the years. I spent the last week grinding paint off the concrete then laying 6"x48" tile then the trim work and paint... Getting too old to do that heavy stuff on the floor. And yes I had to start at the door and I had to go in and out the window for all my cuts and mud buckets... Now daughters house is ready to sell and I can finish working on our house...
Never been a great fan of coping skirting, Ive always used a corner angle finder then adjusted the mitre saw to do the cut, much faster and neater, not knockin Tim work, I bow down to most of the work he does, its a great pleasure watching him - awesome job though Tim, My hat is tipped ;)
@@kroozer5215 doesn't matter what tools you have, it's always going to be quicker to just measure and cut all your boards and cut all your copes in one go.
When you said the name of the clamps was not suitable for a family audience I hadn't thought of either of the names you and Jo came up with.I was thinking of a small part of the anatomy in the chest area.I will now go and sit on the naughty step.😉 I do love the way your girls help you ,their skills are obviously slowly getting better. It was lovely to see the youngest watch her two sisters and mimic them.So great to see womens lib in action. Tim I've been watching forever. My question to you is you are now operating way beyond everyday DIY and in your attention to detail many professional tradesmen. How do you balance the photography and renovating in terms of what you do and who you pay to do things?
You can get a lovely accurate finish on the mitres using an angle grinder with a heavy duty sanding disc (instead of using a coping saw). Creates a lot of dust though!
Hiha bud just lookin to see if your havin any trouble with your gun. I have one and i always need to put it in the charger b4 i us it its like givin it a jump start.
I have vinyl in the kitchen you have to be very careful if you move any heavy items around as the legs did in and either leave imprints or worse still it tears if you drag rather than lift eg a fridge/freezer
Tim - what did you seal the gap between the skirting and the floor with? I am currently doing it with paintable mastic but not easy to do - I have 3 rooms to do so tips welcome. I didn’t want to use normal kitchen/bathroom silicone as cannot be painted when skirtings needs to be repainted in a few years.
Love your channel mate - I'm hooked !! Quick question re. brads/nail sizes - what's your recommendation or rule of thumb? - I'm planning to put up some panelling using matchboards (inspired by your Jan 2016 video). Got 9mm boards but not sure what nail size to use - 15mm, 25mm - I'm a newby in this diy world.
I wouldn't call that a bodge! that was a neat on the right corner - I have seen a lot worse in new builds... Not a lot people would do a scribed joint some will just mitre it and caulk the sh**t out of it. I have done some nice baseboard/skirting return that the profile meet the floor I will PM it on insta (American style) - Great work mate!
I know it's not to your standards but for skirting where you need access (for me it was skirting up to a bath panel) I used velcro strips! so for a section I could remove to get the panel out, velcro the skirting to the wall. If people notice it, they're spending WAY too long on the loo!
Any plans to do an hour long compilation "project" video Tim? It won't take you long! 😉 Joking aside, I'd definitely watch it, as would many others, I'm sure.
We have a whole stack of full start to finish videos we have to do. Garage conversion, roofing the house, workshop, garden over the years, etc. We will get there one day! 😂
So I've been watching these videos for years, they've taught me so much, but it occurred to me recently... I have no idea how he affords these things. Wasn't he a chef? What's the story behind how he can spend all of his time doing this? Wish I could do the same.
I’m looking at laying electric UFH in converted garage. The floor is solid concrete, wood batons with colotex or similar then t&g ply boards. Everyone I ask on how to lay the UFH are giving me different advice, I just don’t want to get it wrong. I will be laying Lino/ vinyl on top. Please has anyone got any advice on the best way to lay it.
@@Abid.Z77 yeah, it's not good for an environment that will see a lot of moisture. But properly installed, painted and caulked, it can last a while, at least.
Laying vinyl flooring requires the floor to be perfectly dry and you will find that most floor layers will insist on a liquid epoxy dpm to guarantee the moisture content in concrete floors irrespective of whether a structural dpm has been fitted.
I don't trust simply glueing skirtingboard on. When carpet fitters came they kicked and broke off almost every piece :/ i had to go around and mechanically fit all the slirting after the fact. Was not ideal!
You should glue your mitres with the mitre bond first as with the mdf skirts you can then bend them if the corners not perfect 👌🏻 and if you mitres are slightly open to use a bit of timber to pein the edge over. To close the gap in
Ha room looks great, went to look for the link to the cock and ball clamps only to be disappointed lol. They look very useful. Was the Bosh mitre saw accurate out of the box or did you have to fi new tune the angle settings? Andy UK

Great job Tim, and assistant’s. so Jo finally has her sanctuary, well deserved too.
That room has undergone so many changes and so many uses! What a journey, and I can't wait to see the finished room once everything's in place!

There's no way finding the angle, setting the saw and mitreing every corner is quicker than coping!

What did you use on bottom of skirting calk or silicone?
It may just be humble MDF, but it looks quite smart when it's installed properly.
MDF is the worst product ever they soak up moisture from the air and they expand 10x more than timber
