Your energy amazes me, Sarah. Well done. As an aide for weed suppression and moisture retention, we layer cardboard and newsprint (no coloured ink) on the bottoms of garden boxes before putting in clean, weed free soil and compost. Never bury weeds in your beds as a cheep fill, or you will be cursing yourself later as the weeds will come back 10-fold. If you are bringing in soil to top up the boxes make sure you know the source. Soil contaminants such as chemicals and motor oils will end up in your vegetables. I hope your allotment produces well for you, times are getting tougher for people everywhere.
You have so much energy all the different things that you get up to it's going to be good to see the allotment grow ,try the carrot's in a deep tub of sandy fine soil 🌻🍅🥬🥕
very cool. one thing that s easy to grow is garlic, plant in the fall or early spring. and let it grow, during summer you can harvest the scapes which are delicious and in the fall, each clove you planted will have produced a bulb.
Yes, just sent over to you via Gail and Alex. 👍 I have two allotments that were completely overgrown with thick BlackBerry brambles. The back plot i reclaimed as it was really thick with brambles and had been used by other plot holders to dump all their rubbish. It took me a year to clear, it now has raised beds. I have planted fruit trees and fruit bearing bushes. It’s still an ongoing Labour of love. But my daughter and I do grow a wide variety of vegetables …😀👍👍👍👍
Sarah!!! 🤓 This was in my recommended and I thought, I know that face! You probably don’t remember me and not sure what my screen name was back then but I sent you a box of paints years ago. I caught the allotment bug too last year but wait is 5 years here so landlord gave me a spare garden to use since end of last year. Excited to see what you get up to here!🤓🤗☺️
@@sarahsallotmentjourney Yes! Linny!🤓😅 Aww, I’m so happy you got a lot of use out of them. That’s made my week, that has🙏🏼 Looking forward to your next video. It looks like a beautiful place there.
Already watch your mudlarking videos, I also craft and very much a winging it small allotment doer. One of my life saying is ‘There’s many a right way to do something and very few wrong ones’ so basically do what makes you happy. And so in this case if they grow and fruit then you’ve done it right 😊
Love the new bed arrangements and makes the path easier 👍👍. Looking good and should be an awesome place to spend summer growing. Have a fabulous week ahead, Ali 🥶🌞🇨🇦
Yay ,I love that you started this channel ,It's a lot of work to set up but so satisfying to see your garden growing ,not to mention eating out of it . I'll be getting a late start this year .I'm moving to the Scottish Highlands from Washington State in a few months so I'll be starting all over from scratch .I might get things set up enough to do some cool crop things this year . Also can't wait to get back to walking the shore for bit's of pottery and "things" and getting to hunting down some old tips . You and the northern Mudd ladies are like kindred spirits ,muddlarking ,gardening and crafting . The bed with the sandy soil would be good for growing carrots .
I think that's great you have a parcel of land to grow anything you want. I'm going to grow potatoes in grow bags and I will see how that goes. Can't wait to see your garden in full swing.
Thanks for sharing with us!! I love that you share your allotment with the kids you work with ❤ You will give them wonderful memories for a lifetime and possibly a love for nature. You are awesome!
So pleased to see your new creative journey and thrilled that you will be sharing it with us all - congratulations on your new chapter - everything looks great
Gale and Alex sent me to your channel. In your bed with the sand you could add some soul and grow carrots. They like sandy soil. You have a lovely garden plot!!
Gail and Alex recommended you and it looks like it will be a fun journey. We don’t have allotments in Australia, just back yards, so I’m interested to see what you do with it.
It’s so wonderful to see you doing this to plant the things you love. It takes a lot out of you to make it happen it will be worth it when it’s finished. Your doing a fantastic job with everything you have accomplished so far. It’s fun to see you have a new niche to work on. I used to do these things in my 20’s and 30’s. Now I watch everyone else making their own gardens. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💜
It would be nice to have somr stone slabs from the entrance of the tunnel leading up to were you have done the weed sheet. I just subscribed did not know you had this channel as well. Love love love it, cant wait to see it develop.
Getting heavy stuff to my plot is quite hard but yes I would of liked some slabs . When you see the plot your you may see why it’s hard . Basically in the middle of woodland on top of a hill
Hello Sarah. I love this! Brilliant stuff. I grow veg and other things too. I grow in bottles too: winter sewing.😊. I tried to get on your veil page but pressed a wrong button, hopefully I will find it again.

It will be great to see what you do with the gardens. If Iam understanding rightly, a allotment, I am guessing the government gives you a plot of land to grow food on?
It’s council owned and committee run . Mine is a half plot size some have full plots . We pay an annual fee and have to keep it tidy ish and productive . We can and I do grow flowers too
Oh ok I believe I understand. :) I wish here in the city we had one, there is land around that could be used for , I might have to write the city council and see what they say.:) I never used raised beds, hen again I grew up on a 179 acre Pennsylvania Dutch farm, I so wish I could be back on a farm, I mainly look for wild edibles when in season. Have you decided what to grow this year? @@sarahsallotmentjourney
Is your water source rain, or do you have some running water? I garden too, but live in hot summer climate, so watering and weeding are a full time job. I like your ground cover idea.
