Hey Scott, would you ever be able to show/share the "Parts Emporium" with the channel at some point? Would be fun to see what your donor car/truck collection looks like.
I think he has a video that shows it a bit. It's called "Money making hack I used to profitably rebuild over 1000 vehicles" but it's such small scrape I bet on what he might have in storage on small parts?
2 hours, I’d be 2 weeks, and that’s just getting it apart. Thanks for the great video! It was just like Friday come early. See you in the next installment.
i replaced the heater hoses on my grand am before and without the proper spring clamp tool, it was an absolute nightmare. i was bent over in that engine bay for hours absolutely destroying my arms on the firewall insulation. won't ever miss that
He's a complete brain surgeon. But yet GM have current recalls that Scott could basically figure out the "why" and the "solution" within a few mins or hours. Saving lives. Talk about a person who have that Dawg in him. 💪🏾
Scott I am not sure if you classify yourself as a dealer but either way I would not think twice buying a vehicle from you if I lived in the USA. It is really refreshing to see someone care about current and future customers like you do. Not to many dealers that think and act like yourself. Keep it up and I am a subscriber for life. I have to change the heater motor on my 2016 Ford Escape titanium. They say the dash needs to come out for that. I am not looking forward to it.
You are so lucky you can still put your knee on the top of the engine to reach back to those heater hoses. My knees had lost all padding by age 50 and that move would hurt. TG for home depot knee pads except they are clumsy.
That dash is insane to remove. I have removed so many dashed in my youth, leaving key sitting g on it or friend did and needed to retrieve. But nothing g like this. You didn't even remove it completely and it was already harder than anything else I have done by 10x at least. I think I'll just bypass the heater core and use a propane heater lol
@sylasdickerson5951 Mr buddy heater and a 12v electric fan from truck stop to circulate air. Set vents to recirculate too and on defroster. I had do it in a pinch years ago it works have turn it on 15minutes before leaving to feel good but can take off right away if in a hurry
@sylasdickerson5951 remember to secure it if driving gthough sure itstops if tips but still could lead to fire. I had it secured to a deal that seatbelted in so it was fixed
Back in the 90s I had to change the heater core in my 86 Grand Am. I didn't take the seats out. I just did the pretzel thing with my body. Now I know a better way. Thx.
Have a friend that changed the heater coil out and put all back togeather only to find our the new one leaked - all to do again...hope yours is more successful..
About to do the core on my brother in laws Grand Am. Coolant was completely rusty when he bought it from a dealer. Flushed it about 6 times, so I'm doing a full coolant system including core
Worst one I've done was helping my friend with his '96 Dodge Ram, it was bad because anything plastic just crumbled when we removed it. He now has a working heater in a truck with no interior.
Do they do a special coating to the dash support metal to make it rust so evenly? I swear every support I have personally seen has been rusted even in a few year old car.
Those early N bodies make great daily beaters. Simpleish to work on and very durable drivetrains especially compared to some of the new crap cars out there today....doubt few will make it to 20yrs old....
If anyone owns these cars the dash material shrinks overtime that’s why it warps like that. Best thing I’d recommend is get a dash mat and use a sunshade when you park the car that really helps keep the dash from doing this it’s from the sun beating on the dash and the heat shrinking the material. The dash mat will keep the dash protected and the sunshade keeps the sun from beating on the dash all day.
I replaced the core in my 2000 grand am by cutting the carpet under the dash. I then split the carpet from under the dash. Didn't have to remove dash or console. Used some zip ties to draw the carpet tight. My core wasn't leaking
Tip? If you need to repair a dash like this first clean it with isopropyl alcohol and a scrub pad then wax and grease remover. Then paint it with duplicolor vinyl and trim paint. As long as it’s not too degraded the cleaning and painting will soften and slightly strengthen the padding hopefully enough to prevent cracking when you glue it back down. But if it does crack you can fill them with polyurethane multi purpose glue sand it back and paint it with the vinyl paint.
My 03 had an issue last week the shift lever stuck in park and key would not turn ! simple fix! just delete the shift interlock selenoid and installed a new ign. switch key cyl. -and left the cyl lockout cable detached ! Did a relearn walla done !
How much is this PGA going to sell for? It couldn't go for more than a few grand. I personally couldn't see $4k, but I know the car market is insane so would be interested to know how close that is.
Hey Scott, I have a question, hopefully you can give away some knowledge. For copart when it says "cert of title or salvage acq (clean title)" what in the world does it mean. Will it be salvage or clean? I keep getting the runaround when asking copart. Thank you
I have a 01 Oldsmobile Intrigue and I've been quoted $1,500 to $2,500 here in Washington. However the shops I got quotes from won't do it. So it's not only expensive but it's hard to find someone to do it in the first place. Now I'm trying to sell it.
6 minutes in and I can't help but remember having to replace the heater core in either my 1970 dodge dart or 1971 satellite. 30 minutes and like 8 bolts and some silicone. I'd never done one before but my dad over saw my work.....those old cars didn't have a lot of convenience features, or get that great of gas mileage but damn they were easy to work on. 225 slant six.
If you see low views on this episode, apparently YT has made it so this video is not viewable unless on an updated version. Otherwise, I've always thought the GM styling of the 90's and 2000's looked dated and cheap. Might even go back into the 80's. Seeing that dash apart, the whole thing seems so cheap! Total opposite from your last build.
Not really. Fast install that does not need a calibrated install tool on the assembly line / constant tension on the hose are the advantages. Number of people that, when buying a new car, ask if the car has spring clamps: Zero.
7:20 hush panels, too bad they didn't make some to go between the driver's seat and the passenger...for those times when you're driving with your wife or gf lol (oops did I say that outloud? hahahaha)
I like these cars well enough but this heater core placement, which so many cars suffer from in various forms, is the ultimate in stupid, miserable engineering, considering they know exactly how to make it infinitely simpler.
what is the shop time for this job? not 2 hrs. probably 4. at $150 hr plus part, looking at $800? is that car worth this effort? maybe today's market, but i wouldn't buy that car in pristine condition for more than $3k. not worth the effort unless it was clogged completely. I would have flushed acid through the core for an hour then bicarb to neut, and coolant. amazing repair for a skilled mechanic
I changed the heater core on my 1975 Lincoln Town Car in the parking lot of Auto Zone, took me ten minutes, including topping off the anti-freeze. Too bad all cars aren't that easy to do.
You're one of those that leaves puddles of fluids in public spaces. You're also the reason work is not permitted in the parking lot. I'd trespass you on the spot.
Hey Scott, would you ever be able to show/share the "Parts Emporium" with the channel at some point? Would be fun to see what your donor car/truck collection looks like.
Get a life... Get out there and produce something. Stop with the distractions. Damn failure of resources...

IT'S A JUNK YARD..
@dale, it is not a kink yard, it is the money yard 😁
3 vids in one week? You're gonna spoil us Scott!
Man do I miss Pontiac.Remember "We build excitement"?
It makes up for missing last week I suppose. 😂
2 hours, I’d be 2 weeks, and that’s just getting it apart. Thanks for the great video! It was just like Friday come early. See you in the next installment.
This guy is the god of all grand ams!!!
i replaced the heater hoses on my grand am before and without the proper spring clamp tool, it was an absolute nightmare. i was bent over in that engine bay for hours absolutely destroying my arms on the firewall insulation. won't ever miss that
Ya a peeling dash tried to crack up Scott 🤣🤣
That dash didn’t want to be fixed! 😂
Thanks for bringing us along. Seeing you in action doing mechanical work is a nice additional to watching you resurrect damaged vehicles into gems.
It just wouldn't be vehcor without a Grand Am video!
Much respect watching you do this job. Like you said it is not your first one, etc. but it still is quite an ordeal.
He's a complete brain surgeon. But yet GM have current recalls that Scott could basically figure out the "why" and the "solution" within a few mins or hours. Saving lives. Talk about a person who have that Dawg in him. 💪🏾
You sound like a trumpturd... Not real proud of thinking...
it's amazing that you can do that in about 2 hrs. that would take us mere mortals at least a whole weekend.
Half day tops... incompetent individuals take a weekend...
Aeons, brosam .. aeons . 😮

My knees are in surprisingly good shape, my back, not so much. 😂

Thanks for bringing us along with this fix scott I’m amazed at your patience and skill levels even trying to resurrect the dashboard, good post scott
Oh... My man. THANK YOU! I been waiting for this video for weeks now. I have hwater core needing to go into my 2000 Grand Am SE
Those are rarely fun, good job Scott.thanks John from Arizona
COOL!! Bonus video from Mr Scott himself
80's GM J body cars have a similar heater core set up. If the cars don't have a console, the core cover is accessible without removing the dash.
Have a friend that changed the heater coil out and put all back togeather only to find our the new one leaked - all to do again...hope yours is more successful..

Great Job Scott. Love all the special tools! Cheers, Rich
Grand Am content, my favourite content 😄👍
To continue,my heater core wasn't leaking it was plugged. It also ran about 10 degrees cooler even in the summer.👍👍
Worst one I've done was helping my friend with his '96 Dodge Ram, it was bad because anything plastic just crumbled when we removed it. He now has a working heater in a truck with no interior.
That's just a '90s Dodge thing
Thanks, super helpful!
No problem!
Now I know why there are so many of these cars still on the road in the Chicago area.
Lol
Nice work. I wish my wife's Kia was that easy. Hope you do well with the sale of this car.
Well that was a job, no one in the UK would even think of doing that job and if they did the cost would cover buying a new car!! Regards Doug.
Great video! I hope this can help me with the Heater core in my Vibe.
Excellent video
Thanks for the video with another Canned Ham!
Scott you made a job from hell look easy, because of your knowledge and organization, thank u
Almost 200,000 subs!! I came on board a couple of years ago good stuff.
Your point?
@@Look_What_I_Did You must have missed it, you should watch the video again.
Do they do a special coating to the dash support metal to make it rust so evenly? I swear every support I have personally seen has been rusted even in a few year old car.
Every GM vehicle I have ever seen is like that.Think it's a trade mark or something.
@@burtbacarach5034 My Jeep has the same lovely "patina" in the dash.
It is bare metal so just the humidity in the air will cause a coating of rust. It is not limited to GM vehicles.
Those early N bodies make great daily beaters. Simpleish to work on and very durable drivetrains especially compared to some of the new crap cars out there today....doubt few will make it to 20yrs old....
Looks like a lay on top dash cover would be a good investment over replacing the entire dash assembly.
Thanks for sharing Scott. I have a 20004 Alero and hpe mine never goes!
What was the future like??
U made that look easy....😅

Very good Video 👍 👍
Hey Scott how's it going ?
If a doctor can use drugs off label. Vehcor can use windshield adhesive off label
Yeah... exactly the same.
I like to see you work on a Nissan versa
I thought for sure you were headed for Scott's Grand Am emporium for another dash.
How long did it really take you to do all that to take the heater core out and put it back in
HEY! Its Scotts Grand AM Emporium ! 👍👀
Damn! How do you keep all that straight 👍
So does the liquid head gasket sealer actually cause damage to a vehicle???
Same as my 04 Monte Carlo
My 03 had an issue last week the shift lever stuck in park and key would not turn ! simple fix! just delete the shift interlock selenoid and installed a new ign. switch key cyl. -and left the cyl lockout cable detached ! Did a relearn walla done !
Hey, is the mustang happening?
Another great show Scott. That Pontiac Grand AM is so ugly it's a wonder that they sold any of them but you still see a lot of them around.
What is that fuzz on your head, Scott? Looks like spring has sprung and the peaches are growing! :o)
Get a life looser.
How much is this PGA going to sell for? It couldn't go for more than a few grand. I personally couldn't see $4k, but I know the car market is insane so would be interested to know how close that is.

got to do that to my 95 transport ,,,but my 99 grandam dash is in great shape

That dash design looks a lot like the Pontiac Sunfire from the same era.
What would a garage charge to do this job?
400$+ easily
I think I would just move to Phoenix.
scott's gm emporium didn't have another dash pad in stock? wth? I thought they had 5 of everything! Mgr is slacking off I think......
❤❤
No need to remove half of what you did I did one with seats and console all in no issues
Pontiac !!

Can you believe that in some modern cars to change the front headlights you need to do the same process? 👍
Whoever is reading this, I hope this day will be a great day.
I always end up with a couple fasteners left over. I figured GM always uses a few too many 😝
You are braver than me working on airbags without disconnecting the 12 volt battery
Seems to be a regular job, replacing heater cores on all sorts of vehicles, a different one for a change.
I've decided to remove the back seat and put in a woodstove. Way easier than this.
2 hours to do that! would take me 2 Days and a lot of swearing. You could work on my car any day.
hey scott i think you are a few days early
Here I thought my 78 Eldorado was difficult to change a heater core.
Wassup
That’s a lot of sugar for a dime!
Here in the South it would just be bypassed.😂
Holy crap, that's a lot of stuff to remove. The heater core in my old car was under the steering wheel and you could remove it in 5 minutes no problem
GM Mark of excellence. As opposed to Ford, quality is job none.
Spring clamps - designed by the devil!

You should grow your hair really long. I mean really, really long.
Oh Nice! Not a Lexus!!
Being there is no cabin filter could debris build up on the heater core and reduce airflow through the front vents?
