But what strikes me is that when it was mentioned that Holy Father that he was clear headed and firm and could not have rushed the decision, that is what puzzles me. If he was clear and firm why he would not continue? Was there something that we all missed? I'll never forget when he gave a speech at Georgetown and ripped into them for not having any Catholic identity anymore (i.e. crucifix on wall in classrooms,having pro-abortion faculty members, etc.) and he ruffled their feathers and offended the libs. That's when I knew he should've been our Pope after JP II. Nothing against Ratzinger, but we need a more energetic, younger Pope who is NOT European.

I was saddened to hear pope Ratzinger was resigning. I hoped if it was because of failing health that he soon recovered to go back to his regular levels of physical activities as before. Cardinal Arinze I love you and your steadfastness and support for Pope Bendedict XVI. But what strikes me is that when it was mentioned that Holy Father that he was clear headed and firm and could not have rushed the decision, that is what puzzles me. If he was clear and firm why he would not continue? Was there something that we all missed? Catholics must not be caught by surprises anymore, though we will continue our life with pains and suffering.

I would chafe under Cardinal Wuerl, who is completely out of step with PP Benedict on the reform of the reform.
Frankly I don't know why the Cardinals or anybody would have been shocked by Benedict's action in resigning. He has been hinting and even saying for the last few years he would take this action which according to Canon law he has a right to do.

I'll never forget when he gave a speech at Georgetown and ripped into them for not having any Catholic identity anymore (i.e. crucifix on wall in classrooms,having pro-abortion faculty members, etc.) and he ruffled their feathers and offended the libs. That's when I knew he should've been our Pope after JP II. Nothing against Ratzinger, but we need a more energetic, younger Pope who is NOT European.

I was saddened to hear pope Ratzinger was resigning. I hoped if it was because of failing health that he soon recovered to go back to his regular levels of physical activities as before. Now just because pope Francis doesn't visit as many places as before after he first became pope that should be a clue for the rest of us including me to take up our crosses all the more.

While Cardinal Arinze is over 80 which makes him ineligible to vote in a papal conclave, he can still be elected pope.
