- Garrison Brown's sister is opening up about what led to his tragic death. On Instagram, Madison Brush, the daughter of 'Sister Wives' stars Janelle and Kody Brown, shared some feelings and reflections in the weeks since her brother's death. Flagstaff Police Department confirmed to ET Garrison was found dead inside his Arizona home from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Janelle really chose her kids, for her to recognize the pain her son is dealing with and make the choice to move to be closer to her kids for their well being is amazing. 💕 💕
Janelle is a great person. She deserves all the best in the world. Truly amazing woman.
Anybody who struggles with severe mental health issues that started during adolescence and continued to worsen into adulthood can relate to Garrison. It could’ve been me, at any point in the last 10yrs(im 25 too). I’ve always had love and support, but in those moments when you feel so low, all of that is clouded over with the idea of wanting to die. He tried so hard to live and to be happy, all it takes is a moment for the decision to be made and worked out. Most people who contemplate suicide are “the happiest they have ever seemed” the week or so prior to committing. It’s because the weight and burdens of living life have finally lifted, you feel at peace for the first time. I’m so sorry to his family for this incredible loss.

Mental health is massively escalated when the family life breaks down and there is animosity towards the person who was clearly and irrevocably the catalyst for the family's demise. Garrison had a very strong dislike for Robyn, and was angry and hurt that his father shunned them in favour of Robyn and her kids.
Anyone at anytime can develop an mental illness or it can get worse. Many of us have neglect, trauma, addictions, AND mental illness and do not die by suicide. It is no one's fault, period! Also, it IS just down to "mental illness" and/or alcohol in his case. So tired of watching the world blame everyone except the person and/or illness who made the choice. It is terribly sad but it is not the families fault. Not Kody, not Robin. No one.
When someone struggles with depression, any extra stress factor can escalate the depression into manic depression. People that added greatly to this young man's stress factor were Robyn and Kody 😡😡

Maddie, THANK YOU for speaking out on mental health. It MUST come out of the shame and shadows and talked about!! I know a few mental health workers, and said since Garrison’s death, some young adults are now coming forward to seek help saying specifically that Garrison’s suicide made it possible for them to come forward. I am sorry for your devastating loss, but I think Garrison has brought the courage to be willing to seek mental health to possibly thousands across the country. A soldier’s duty is to help and protect-he sure has done that! ❤️

My sister died of a self inflicted gunshot wound . She was on anti anxiety medication mixed with alcohol which is a deadly combo . She suffered all her life with mental health issues. Love and support to the family . So sad to hear this news .

This is heartbreaking. Of course I didn’t know Garrison, but I could see him struggling. I have a son who has written 2 suicide notes to me. I can’t tell you how it changes you and affects everything you say, do and think. He’s 18 and I don’t think he’s out of the woods by any means I finally had to face the fact that there is only so my I can do and it’s been this mother’s nightmare I can promise you. I eventually sat down and told God all about it and asked him to take this. It’s beyond my control. I have faith that we’ll come out okay on the other side of this.

Having lost a son to suicide, I wish to send a big hug to everyone in the Brown family. They need space to breathe through this next year. You cannot understand what it is like emotionally for a family to lose someone. There is a long rotating time of self blame, anger and a desire to find reasons for what happened. There is nothing you can do about it except to breathe deeply, find common ground and for the public leave them all the hell alone and let them work through this tough time as a family. Their public personae has nothing to do with this. They need to drop the bs and remember what a family is and get on with their lives. Stop reflecting on his death please, its their business and no one elses.

My cousin Marcel was struggling with mental health and alcohol and committed suicide the same way. I relate with this so much it really saddened me I have loved watching their family over the years I wish them healing

Let’s be real. Growing up with the criticism, condescension, blame-shifting, goal post-moving, and projection of a narcissistic parent (as Kody demonstrates in front of G-d and everybody) radically increases the chances that a kid will eventually be diagnosed as having “mental health issues”. Some are more emotionally-resilient and will fare better than others, but none escapes unscathed.

So sad for the loss, I agree about mental health,I'm having alot of problems w my own mental health since we mixed to Florida from Ohio,I can't find a Dr for mental health and if I do they want to change my meds that I have been on some 2002.
So many people suffer w this illness and I think these Dr and nurse practitioners should be held accountable!!!

My husband lost his brother and i lost my brother in law in 2014 to self un-aliving. It's the most difficult thing either of us have ever gone through.

"Not that mentally ill to get in the military". Maybe he hadn't been diagnosed yet. Or it got worse with alcohol use/abuse. Suicide is very unpredictable, hence why it is difficult to treat. Which is very tragic. May he rest in peace.

One of my really close friends in the Air Force committed suicide the same way.. I still comment on his fb wishing he would’ve called, there’s a guilt loved ones of suicide will always live with

All the sister wives kids were abused for years & when they're grown & Cody could freely show love for his kids he insist that the kids denounce their Moms & side with him.
Kody was a big problem but was not the reason for his death. As the husband he should have done everything to keep the intimacy between the wife's. But he used it as a punishment for his wife's. He was a good dad but at some point he lost his vision. He has to see that before he can fix anything. But at the same time I think Christine should have embraced the single house. But was using that as a punishment for Kody being distant. It's a mess and definitely not what they all invisioned. Kody being the one man I put it all in his pocket he should have led them better.
it’s interesting that he literally was struggling because of parental alienation and yet she says his struggles were not based on what he told us they were months before his death.

Still not talking about the drinking though. Alcohol is a depressant and seriously worsens things. It was happening in this case on the day in question. It can also be a sign. Despite her parents claiming to be Mormon to justify polygamy they have always drank, and they have blatantly ignored Meris obvious red faced, puffy, slurred speech and anger issues drinking problem for 19 seasons.

Super support Maddie in this, emotionally, ...and she is wrong. It's mental health AND gun culture AND the unique problems of being a reality tv family, where members hear each other say awful things. There is no way Garrison wasn't mourning the loss of his father these last few years. It's a divide in attachment that cannot be ignored. By only focusing on mental health, Maddie is choosing to downplay how he died (gun, duh, one of the family businesses) and the real life influences on his psychology.
That horrible father of his should take some accountability for leading him toward this mental state of suicide. He looks so much like him too.. sad!
