honestly it looks like it could be an old fallout style of world where you have an overworld with big pois but basically as you travel you can randomly get sucked into randomly generated mini maps. at least that is my guess
Yeah when he said that I was like, are you high? It's pretty obvious it's the second one, what the hell is this guy even talking about? It's just clear from the literal visual itself. lol
@@DroolRockworm Yeah, that would be insane. It would be like a big FFXV map but you can turn into a giant person for fast travel. I think having different locations to visit (Bigger areas for combat/gathering, houses for NPC interaction, hidden areas for easter eggs/bonus weapons, optional places for fun/more exploration) is awesome. That's the old JRPG formula and always worked very IMO.
Honestly it feels way too hopeful and extravagant, and also- needless. you *could* do this but it'd be like random battle encounters from zelda 2 or something and wouldn't really be worth it imo. @@DroolRockworm
I don't think it would actually be any good with the fully detailed world. We don't need another Skyrim, we need something done differently from a smaller team. That doesn't mean you can't have a TON of these locales. You could have temporary locales that appear when an event occurs, such as finding a secret hut in the woods or the deer ramming unethically into your car. Interestingly, this would feel a bit like a Fallout 1/2 world map with its hidden locations and random encounters that vanish after use.
The concept of being essentially the practitioner of the theorist in an semi open world (huge open region) is what i liked. I remember what i saw on that show off during, i think, state of play or the game awards, and it was nothing like we were expecting. That killed my interest tbh. I hope the game is back for good this time
The games focus seems to have shifted a lot over the years but parts of the old ideas seem to be living on a little in different characters (like the scientist) or the 2-layered map design. It feels like they're still hiding quite a bit about the game so I guess we'll see if/when it finally releases
Funny, that's one of the things which I saw as a staple premise. In the old footage you actually seem to not have the theorist accompany them at all and it looks like they upgraded it in the SoP trailer to show the scientist being looked after by the PC. It seems that he may or may not come with. What is it you mean that has changed about it? As far as open-world goes, it definitely looks more old school JRPG (FFVII or so), with a big world map and many locations to visit. I like this style, especially when it kind of reminds me of a model train track/diorama.
I also noticed that the game seems to have pared-down survival mechanics compared to previous showcases. Specifically, changes were made to the HUD to only represent health and stamina (I assume) now instead of the older elements that included hunger as well.
Im starting to see biomutant-ish red flags. Recently, I played Kentucky Route Zero and realized how amazing an adventure can be without combat, survival and grind. I hope LDI won't fall into a trap of game mechanics demanded by publishers and being unable to focus on what they do best.
Biomutant is exactly what I'm reminded of too. The game seems overly ambitious and unfocused, like I still don't have any idea what it's even about and I'm not sure the devs do either.
Oh man biomutant was such a letdown. If they just focused on making a quarter of the ideas they had it would have been a blast, but instead we got like 400 great ideas, all of which were broken and badly implemented.
I remember seeing a trailer for this game several years ago. Occasionally I would remember it and want to look it up, but I had forgotten the name and had no idea how to search for it. So, thanks for making this video.
I had high hopes for this, and I always hope this kind of thing can get made and put out. Wildly ambitious visually, and I like the idea of the style and narrative for a monster hunter style game.
As not much of a 3rd person action RPG player myself, I can’t say that have any concerns about the combat based on the trailers, but it’s definitely interesting hearing the insights of a more practiced player of this genre
This reminds me of Biomutant. The type of game that, if done correctly, would amass a cult following and be known as one of the hidden gems of our time, heck, maybe not even a hidden one. But if done poorly...
I have been looking for this game forever! I couldnt remember anything about it aside from that footage of the goblins on the beach and the car in the desert!
It is very clearly smaller POI environmental stages traversed between via the overworld map. I wouldn't expect that entire map the be playable at all. These playable stages shown in the video also seem to be substantially smaller than what had been shown in previous development videos years ago and that worries me quite a bit. We were suppose to have really cool and interesting vehicles and mounts to traverse large open spaces. As well as combat while doing so. Now we have some table top pieces.
Agreed that's my main concern as well. It literally takes you out of the action which is not what was shown in pre 2020 footage. Also the complete absence of the boat and ocean scenes is a big concern for me as well and hope thats not completely gone.
I'm still hyped for this game. The gameplay still seems so full of interesting ideas, and that style is still incredibly captivating. I agree that the combat seemed a bit flatter in this trailer though, but not terrible. Having backed a few Kickstarter campaigns which have been in development for very, very long times (though not this one, sadly), I've trained myself to a more zen attitude about them. When new material surfaces, I check it out. If a release date or window is announced, I don't get my hopes up. If it gets delayed, I assume it's because it isn't done yet and keep waiting. Projects like this occupy next to nothing of my brain on a day to day basis, but I'm always interested to check out any new developments. I hope it eventually comes out, and is at least close to as cool as it looks.
I remember seeing this game back when Yooka Laylee launched their Kickstarter, completely regret backing that game btw, but LDI looked really impressive at its conception.
I'm intrigued still, though with the scaling down of the dev team & what seems to have been Sony's exiting from the project (why else would LDI reemerge via Kickstarter & not a Sony State of Play while also sounding currently aimless with publishing...something Sony could assist with?), I'm rebooting my expectations from anticipating an ascending project that caught Sony's mighty eye - to - when or if it releases, a boutique Indie experience with cool quirky visuals yet gameplay that apparently wasn't as special enough to sustain Sony's involvement. I remember there being some sort of mentioning on LDI's early Playstation Store page of there being an Online/Co-Op feature. I hope that's true, though via the scale-down, such infrastructure is probably off the table now. Unless, it's peer-to-peer.
the map looks like Old JRPGs or Wartales (more because of the caravan and food mechanics) , you have a macro map to walk and things can happen while you walk, but you have to go to a micro location to expand the possibilities of that place
This game gives me nostalgic vibes of what it felt like to see and play FF7 on PS1 for the first time. The combination of a unique art style with a well crafted semi-open world is what i feel in love with in both games.
I actually like the idea of melee combat becoming stickier the more enemies you engage. It's a good mechanic from TTRPGs that was represented early in 1st edition AD&D with a parting attack against fleeing enemies and bonuses to hit when attacking the flank or rear, and formalized in a very chess-like way in 3e as Attacks of Opportunity and flanking when attacking from opposite sides. DDO features a mobbing mechanic where aggroing too many monsters in the dungeon at once will reduce your movement speed, making you vulnerable. Anything that moves a player away from being a mass-murdering superhero will be met by most players with negativity, but honestly most players don't know jack shit about game design and their opinions can be regarded in a very particular light. Someone who eats a lot may know what food they like, but that does not mean they know how to make it. Cue people responding with a complaint or argument about one of the many things I just typed, acting like that says anything about the whole ;P
I was looking forward to this game a couple of years ago and funny enough a few weeks ago I randomly thought what happened to this game but I had forgotten what it was called until I just happened to see this video in my feed.
I'm playing and loving FF7 Rebirth, the playable areas are sizable, bigger than what I expected. I would have been content sticking to roads and moving between set piece to set piece for that the game was. But the paradoxical thing about MODERN rpgs is that the seamless open maps they present make the world overall feel very small, being told that an entire province is as short a walk as getting across my city. And I got to thinking, that no one seems to be making worlds like FF5-9 anymore, with a detailed and diverse overworld map where you just stumble onto things. Even in the realm of adventure games, no ones making maps the likes of the original Monkey island. So seeing this game, I really hope it delivers on that spontaneity, because even with a pulled back scope what they're attempting to accomplish is a rarity these days.
Good concept in 2015, and I don't think in 2024 this game will be any good. The game changed over time in the last 9 year, but I don't think that we had a real demo of this game until now, just gameplay trailers are not working in this industry. Did "The Day Before" teach anything to anybody? We always had this kind of issues within games industry, but this stuff is really going beyond anything. When a team is not able to make the project, instead to keep people on their toe for so long, they have to be honest with the backers and their self and admit that they couldn't make it. Refund everybody on kickstarter was the first step of redemption for the devs to keep their reputation clean and maybe restart from the beginning. What they did instead? Silence for 4 years and in mean time announcing that the game, maybe, was a PlayStation exclusive (I know that now on their website is for switch and Xbox as well). With this rumour, they caused such a big s**t storm that I still can't believe that they basically avoided all the backers on kickstarted that were asking for explanations. I mean, why? Why people still care about the release of this game? I can understand people that backed the game, but what about the rest? As a future game developer (I started my academic career 2 years ago in Computer Games Technology) I'm feeling ashamed because of this people. With their indifference to major issues with the community, they're just destroying the trust between the devs and the users, ruining even the job of other indie developers that have no other choice than a crowdfunding to sponsor their game and their dream. I won't buy this game for these reasons, if it's going to see the full release, of course. It's just a disgrace for the industry.
I think most likely we have an overworld with points of interest and battles/encounters in submaps, like a PSX era RPG. This game had a very polished, and crafted vibe to it. We know it's not made by a huge AAA team. I don't think it's reasonable to expect a huge seamless -to scale- overworld, because something has to give. IF the game actually releases, and does well, we might get a sequel with such a feature, much like the scope and ambitions of the Witcher series expanded with each installment. My guess would be they were caught off guard by the enthusiasm for the kickstarter and the amount of attention they were getting, panicked, decided they needed to greatly scale up the project to avoid disappointing people, and then at some point managed to settle down and hone the scope of the game back down to something that made sense.
In terms of indie development and what little I know about this project I am extremely nervous for this game's prospects. But its presentation makes me so hopeful that I'm wrong
I'd rather wait to get a better game than a rushed one but.. I feel bad for Kickstarter people, a decade is a long time, people are literally dying before they get a game they backed.
It is absolutely handcrafted locations with specific entrances in the overworld. There is no way a team is going to build out a world of that size. That’s impossible levels of scope.
I literally just googled it today cuz it sprang into my brain like a fuckin core memory that was unlocked and found the new trailer. Yet seeing it i felt absolutely nothing but like a gross dislike. To me, at this point it was more like a "you still have the audacity to be making this crap when people have been wanting out for ages?" I read a comment on their kickstarter about a backer demanding for a refund and apparently he was reported lmao. Straight scum moves from these guys and some trailer is just absolute nothing at way too late a time.
this was my most anticipated game of all time. I've been gaming since the mid 90s. imagine my disappointment when it never came to fruition. I'll always keep an eye and ear out for any news on it seeing the light of day, but I've largely moved on. I'm at peace with never getting to play this.
i just think is so funny to see those armed highway robbers finding a man all alone in the woods and he just like "hey, want to share some warm food?" i would follow him to the end of the earth after that, ngl
I'm glad I didn't hear about it in 2015 cuz I would have been even more mad that it's still not out yet. But I did know it was supposed to be out a couple years ago because when they announced it I got excited. But yeah, now it's March almost in 2024 and it's still not out. It was supposed to be one of their flagship games for last year, but I heard a rumor that was supposed to be a PlayStation Plus free game, so maybe that'll be soon. I love every aspect of the whole survival game. I'm not relating to that, but it looks so awesome otherwise.
I just hope it comes out this year. The game industry needs Korea to take over. Favorite game of 2023 was made by Korean team, Dave the diver, they just nailed everything.
Damn I forgot about this game! I thought it released at some point and I somehow missed it but to find out it’s still not out, sad. I hope they pull this off.
The first time I heard about the game was the recent trailer and I’m interested in the game. It’s similar enough to Monster Hunter to have my full attention.
Heard about this for the first time. Looks interesting, but it's def something I'm not going to hype about. If it releases it releases and I will wait for reviews and decide then if it's worth full price, wait for sale or not interested at all for me.
Man, I've been waiting for this game ever since 2015. I did not back in in Kickstarter but I was pleased to see it get funded. It has always seemed like a "dream game" to me. But alas, they seem to have had a lot of internal management problems that have made the course of development very troubled. They might have had a lot of misfortune, but they should have been transparent and kept the public updated regularly. Being silent was the biggest insult to the fans, and especially the backers. In fact, I think Kickstarter should impose a rule that you have to give monthly updates. I sympathize with those backers who are angry and wish to have their pledge refunded, but backing a Kickstarter project is like making an investment, and investments don't always pan out. It's not like you're buying a finished product. You're making a risk by funding the production of the product, and it might or might not work out. Regarding the game, I think they scaled down the game in the way that there's no seamless open world that you can explore in full 3D. I think you move from place to place via that world map, and then transition into limited set pieces and scenarios that they play out in full 3D. I hope they didn't dumb it down too much and there still is that survival element that was shown in past footage.
As long as they can hone in on one version of this game after all of their shakeups, that's the biggest hurdle to clear. Too many promising games have been wasted to scope creep and bad decisions under the hood. Engine swaps often point to a chaotic dev process with impulsive direction. Time will have to tell, when the information remains this vague.
It's a funny one because all the marketing materials suggest it could be EITHER one of the best games ever made or pure meh, and ultimately that depends on two things: whether we're seeing genuinely large environments or very small playable and highly scripted areas of an otherwise non-interactable world, and story. A great story with a truly unique world would certainly offset the game world being small, though (see Jusant). I wish nothing but good things for the devs.
The pessimism in me says the footage previously was all faked and they didn't actually start developing the game until way later. Ever see the parody video for "The Day After"? Basically, that's what I assumed about this project.
Yeah? What the fuck happened to this game? Remember watching this on E3 and the game had alot of positive awes and feedback from the crowd? Woulda thought this gam would been out 5 years ago.
idk i remember the original showcase looked so interesting and imaginative, after sony picked it up it now just seems like cute graphic monster hunter and the combat looks awful for what seems like a combat heavy game all that aside, good video subbed
This game looks imaginative as hell. Hope the dev team pull it off.

This looks soo good! I can't wait to play it!
To me, at this point it was more like a "you still have the audacity to be making this crap when people have been wanting out for ages?"
I read a comment on their kickstarter about a backer demanding for a refund and apparently he was reported lmao.
I'm at peace with never getting to play this.
this game is really dead in the water. It's been this long and now it's gonna be several more years until we hear about it again.
the overworld map looks great. bring me back to the ps1 final fantasy days.
I haven’t heard about this before but it looks amazing. Can’t wait
just watched your vid, and i lov it.
good video, you made me look forward to the game... whenever that releases lmao
You got yourself a sub~
i just think is so funny to see those armed highway robbers finding a man all alone in the woods and he just like "hey, want to share some warm food?" i would follow him to the end of the earth after that, ngl
I remember first seeing this on steam greenlight. I'm gonna be miffed if it is no longer being released for PC
I just hope it comes out this year. The game industry needs Korea to take over. Favorite game of 2023 was made by Korean team, Dave the diver, they just nailed everything.
did not know someone was making a video for this game ////////// cant wait for this game looks soo good
I'm new to the channel, and this is my first time hearing about this game. I hope you enjoy it when it comes out.
Damn I forgot about this game! I thought it released at some point and I somehow missed it but to find out it’s still not out, sad. I hope they pull this off.
i had completely forgotten about this game
This and Silksong look like an awesome time.
The first time I heard about the game was the recent trailer and I’m interested in the game. It’s similar enough to Monster Hunter to have my full attention.
i still pray that this game wont be a the day before
Heard about this for the first time. Looks interesting, but it's def something I'm not going to hype about. If it releases it releases and I will wait for reviews and decide then if it's worth full price, wait for sale or not interested at all for me.
Never knew about this game but it looks fun definitely up in my alley
0:39 "SCHMEAT" 😂
Thank you for reminding of this game bruh
It looks beautiful. It will probably still come out before Silksong lol
I think this game looks great im just happy to see that the game is still comeing out everyone tought this game was dead
This game is a myth.
wow i backed this on kickstarter so long ago i forgot i did that
9:39 im hoping that the kind of mad max dessert style....dessert is still in the game and that you can/have to travel with Professor and buttler
I'm hearing about it for the first time!
First time. Looks cool. Hope I get it when it comes out
Congratulations on the very small dev team actually being close to finishing
You completly put my thoughts togehter. I also thought of the little nightmares 2 school
Looks sick .... I'm Def getting 👍👍👍
It looks like a modern/updated final fantasy from PlayStation 1 days. 👍
The pessimism in me says the footage previously was all faked and they didn't actually start developing the game until way later. Ever see the parody video for "The Day After"? Basically, that's what I assumed about this project.
Holy shit this game looks amazing I really really really wanna play this
radio the universe says hello
Ive been waiting years for this game already. Ive learned to not get hyped now everytime they release some new footage.
Neo is clearly defrauding everybody lmao. Just piecemealing trailers every few years for more money
Yeah? What the fuck happened to this game? Remember watching this on E3 and the game had alot of positive awes and feedback from the crowd? Woulda thought this gam would been out 5 years ago.
idk i remember the original showcase looked so interesting and imaginative, after sony picked it up it now just seems like cute graphic monster hunter and the combat looks awful for what seems like a combat heavy game
all that aside, good video subbed
This is the only game that competes with my Silksong anticipation.
