I loved this game so much. I played it on a 2,4 GHz dual core and a HD 5750 at 15-25 FPS, had to point the camera down while driving so the FPS went up enough to steer properly. Coincidentally, the same worked for gta IV. As great as the saints row the third remaster is, I was actually hurt that a saints row 2 remaster didn't come out first. Saints row 2 world is just much more "urban" and had a lot more hidden interior to explore. Again, just like gta IV compared to gta 5.
My friend and I did a whole playthrough of this game via Hamachi a couple weeks ago. I enjoyed the hell out of the game and faced the same problems you did (I have a 3900X and a Strix 2070 Super) but the random crashes were the worst. What usually happened was the game would crash randomly at a certain event then when I came back to the said event would go on like normal. Even with the GOTR mod I still got those crashes. Despite how unoptimized this was compared to The Third for example (btw 20fps prerendered cutscenes in The Third were ASS compared to SR2's full resolution 60fps cutscenes), I enjoyed 2 way more than The Third. With the crashes, they occurred whenever they wanted, whether it was while driving, entering a new area, starting a mission, and triggering a cutscene after a mission ended (meaning I had to do the whole mission again). The only reason I powered through all the bugs and crashes was the game alone.
Aye. Been a whole. Actually had some games that ran through it and only some of them got patched after it died, gotta be creative to play them nowadays.

They need to remake this game and SR1 like what was done with Mafia, Yakuza and Yakuza 2. SR2 is easily one of the best open-world games I've ever played.
I've had the same issues with my 8800 GT in 2016-2017, but on average the experience was great, as showed in this video. Yes, those FPS drops for no reason was frustrating and a bit annoying, but I've completed the game and surely can also recommend it. By the way, i was amazed by how this game is demanding on your RTX 3070 - 40% and 60 fps IS TOO F***ING MUCH FOR SUCH AND OLD GAME.
Apparently Volition is finally fixing Saints Row 2! There's no release date and I'm sure the pandemic put a damper on it, but at least it's getting worked on. Who knows, we may even get a remaster for free for anyone who owns it on Steam!
I recently upgraded my PC and now the game has a fatal glitch where it randomly drops to 1fps after a couple minutes of playing the game. So, it seems like this one will simply become unplayable on modern PCs.
I played this one as well at release on PC without issue. I do not know what ur issues are with older games but back in the day this ran fine just like gta iv. Makes me start to wonder about ur technical capabilities when I never had issues with this stuff back in the day.
Why the hell would you cpu bottleneck a gpu so hard? This just isn't a fair testcase if you ask me. I know the game is not optimized anyway, but you can do a more legit benchmark when the cpu bottleneck is as small as possible. 8700-10900K/3900X-5950X would be a way better option if you ask me.

Did you actually lock down the 10400F to 2.9 GHz? As the default boost should take it up to a constant 4 GHz or so on all cores under a typical gaming workload.
This is one of those games that simply needs a remaster.
Co op was boss on this game miss them days
Gentleman of the row fixes a lot of issues, this game is fantastic.
Jesus it's running just as fast as some of the modern AAA games at 1440p from a game released over a decade ago.
it's insane how many pc games are unoptimized.
Lol Very Interesting Video Idea (I Loved it)
Try GOG version , I heard it is better than Steam
Apparently Volition is finally fixing Saints Row 2! There's no release date and I'm sure the pandemic put a damper on it, but at least it's getting worked on. Who knows, we may even get a remaster for free for anyone who owns it on Steam!
Hi bro next one try stalker clear sky )) let's see how it perform with rtx 3070
I recently upgraded my PC and now the game has a fatal glitch where it randomly drops to 1fps after a couple minutes of playing the game. So, it seems like this one will simply become unplayable on modern PCs.
I played this one as well at release on PC without issue. I do not know what ur issues are with older games but back in the day this ran fine just like gta iv. Makes me start to wonder about ur technical capabilities when I never had issues with this stuff back in the day.
can you do a follow up with the juiced patch mod?
I hope you all are having a great day
vehicle destruction/deformation looks more advanced than GTAV's
I miss this game. I couldnt play it anymore when i was younger because my xbox ringed the disk causing the game to freeze when loading.
I just started playing the GOG version of the game which is more stable than the Steam version, and with mods it can run a bit better but it's still CPU bound.
Gentleman of the row
Saints row two... man I can't remember the last time I played it.
"Where performance logic goes out the window" hilarious
can you do a before and after with those community patches for those 2 games?
a comparison of sorts
the gog version runs pretty stable and bug free i think. but you need atleast a decent rig to hold the 30 fps to which it is limited.
G'day Random,
This game will be the saviour for all those who sold their RTX2080Ti & couldn't get a RTX3000, no difference with a GTX750Ti until stock is available 😁
@Kattos _ 🤔 might not be as good as a GTX750Ti on Intel Graphics
