Really sent me back in time w/the talk about Vietnam FACs and taking the fight to the enemy close & lethal
I was on the ground in the early days of OEF/OIF with the 82d ABN Div. Thanks for being overhead. Truly appreciate it.
I love the stank face Mover makes at 7:16 when hearing how long the loiter time in an A-10 is.
WTG TBear ... being a Hawg guy from the previous century, the C model is something about which I've only heered.
RTU'd at DM when LASTE was being installed.
they really need to build new Hawgs, though, I think. They were long in the tooth when I flew 'em ... having had at least 3 detunings on the TF 34s to increase hot section life. No idea what they're doing now.
Thx Gonky.
great vid, Mover.

They need a modern survivable CAS platform that can go into contested airspace where the AC-130 Spooks can't operate. And they need a new Transport that is also advanced survivable tech. Think B-2/B-52/C-17 multi purpose stealth cargo transport bomber combo
I remember when Shaw had the F16 and A10 used to love watching the 10s at Poinsett Range.
Back around 1992, my dad and I went to a decommissioning ceremony on Eglin, AFB for the A-10 as they had been phased out. He said it was stupid since it served such a specific role. They backed them up to these metal plates that flipped up, hit the brakes and pushed the throttle up. They ended up bringing them out of retirement for Iraq years later. I don't even recall seeing many A-10's on Eglin as the 33rd TFW was mostly F-15's.
TBear is the embodiment of your big, friendly hillbilly truck driver. Why does the A-10 fit gim so well?😂
I only got to know people whose day got a lot better after hearing the "brrrrrrt", so I appreciate the value of that platform. It was a good sound in the Kundus post code, i was told ...
If you were on the right side, that is.
Question, "What do you call an A-10 flying on the right Wing of an AC-130 Spectre Gunship"???
"Tag-Team from HELL"...
Just like we were afraid of scads of Bombers and loads of ICBM's in the 50's, 60's and 70's, until we checked the records and found their propaganda machine had worked very well. Worrying about the 1000's of Hypersonic weapons both Russia and China already have is a good way to increase the need for Billions of dollars to the Military Industrial Machine. In my experience, (USAF retired) the only credible battlefield threats were the SA-7/14/18/29 MANPADs and ESPECIALLY the ZSU23 family/style of weapons, and the former is a paper tiger. Any theoretical Hypersonic Surface to Air threat is more dangerous to the aircraft at medium and high altitude like Fat Amy, than any one at 1000 and below.
Trying the a-10a and then the a-10c II in DCS will make you appreciate the helmet and targeting pod in a big way, the difference is incredible.
If i could get the HMCS setup from the A10 to the F-16 in DCS it would be unstopable.
In my opinion I believe that the Hog is in the top 5 mabe even higher. It has shown time and time again how useful of a tool it is. Iit happens to be my favorite aircraft and when the time comes to retire it it's going to be a massive blow to our military.
When they do they'll bring it back from the dead. The Warthog will never die.

I grew up in Tucson and I remember hearing and seeing the A-10s flying around. They definitely sounded different.
My son saw the A-10 fly for the first time Sunday he was like yeaaaaa and what impressed the girls flying the viper that he called it that
Deployed to Afghanistan in 2016. A F-16 saved our ass by flying out solo and doing CAS for us. Never had the A-10 watching my back, but felt just as safe when they were around.

Can't we all just get along
We can get along. They won’t get along. One side wants to obliterate the other. You figure out who wants to obliterate who.
Evidently Not … well not and make money too
Nope.
I like the editing here, showing clips n so on as tbear explains.
With my amateur OSINT hat on, have noticed that the F15s had been a lot more active on training sorties from Lakenheath in recent weeks. That totally makes sense now.
(Source - I stare at flight radar apps when I’m bored at work)
I've been seeing a lot more movement out of Barksdale as well. They had 2 of the B-52's in the air, and they had jets with them as support but whatever it was be it the F-35, F-22, F-15C, ect is anyone's guess as they were so high up you couldn't see them. Recently I've seen everything from fighters to bombers goin' up in the air.
Was at hill AFB the other day, watched 16 F35s land / take off. They’re busy!!
I noticed that too, as well as an increase in Typhoon activity over the North Sea seemingly engaging in BFM. Which is unusual this time of year, due to weather conditions, to conduct BFM that often in poor viz
Once again, the A-10 is needed, it will be a sad day when this beast is gone, aw my dream aircraft to fly sigh, thank you guys for this great info.
Here's hoping they don't scrap them and just remove the weaponary and let the civilians have access to them. Perfect airplane as its not a Mach jet and is pretty darn stable.
No kidding wouldn't it be cool to have one parked in the driveway, I sure would love to fly one.@@sjsharksfan8573
For some reason the Military has never liked the A-10, but it definitely has proven its worth over and over.
It's a great modern fighter craft that looks like it was designed in WWII.
Good Luck Davis-Monthan 924!!
Go get em!!
You’ve got the skills!

(My son’s old squadron.)
Give the Marines and Army the option to have them. The Air Force doesn't want 'em. The Air Force has an extreme aversion to combat losses. The Marines throve on risk, danger and death.
Really interesting A-10 information here.
I miss the days in the late 80s and early 90s where the hogs would be cruising up and down Myrtle Beach all day long. Such a beautiful platform.
Hey T-Bear, did you deploy with the 303rd to Germany back in the 90's? I think we rocked some "discos" one night lol.
Love the video! It would be even better if you put the meanings of all those acronyms on the screen when spoken!! LOL!
Shout out to DM and the A-10 boys…. From a former 305th RQS guy !
Great comment supporting the 18 year old.
Man I'd sooner pick the Mudhen for CAS over the Viper, even if you're double bubble on the Mudhen you're still out carrying the F16 in terms of ordnance. Let the Vipers play around with CAP and SEAD
So the Aussies have sub-caliber rounds for the GAU-8.. I really wonder if they would work in the A-10.
We kinda missed out when they didn't pick up the A-10B, which could have lead to a A-10D.
It’s a 4 door sedan lol
i was hoping you would talk about or mention how they might be transported. i am pretty sure they don't operate off carriers. can they fit in a galaxy or globemaster. i suspect they just flew from the states and refueled mid flight
They fly.
@@CWLemoineThis is why I watch your content. I never would've figured that out on my own
The A-10 is the best close support jet of all time.
I know the 122nd has most likely started swapping over to F16s. A few of the F16s have been seen flying into their base. I'm not sure where their A10s are going. They flew F16s in the first Gulf War so they have some chops but I'm sure their old F16 pilots have retired by this point.
Getting rid of the worthog is a bad idea. Viper just wasn't designed for low and slow in amongst AK-47s.😢

Reality is they've spent most of the last 30 years destroying Toyota pickups.

OV10?! Haven't heard that in yrs
Lived near the waren Grove range o the times you could watch then roll in and listen in. Think a guy still has a channel on here with range runs.
Mover, theres a new A-10. Maybe can get a test flight in one as a journalist/author for your next book.
Hi guys,
A little off topic but could you comment on something please and maybe do a segment on it? Being mindful of some if the 'national interest' decisions that have been made in recent history, do you ever question your government's intentions in committing to conflicts and applying military power? How do you deal with that on a personal level? Do you just 'do your job' and not question things in your own mind? If you do question the reasoning for the above, how do you deal with it?
Many thanks for a very informative channel,
Stephen
Brrrrrrrrrrrt!
Enough said.
Everything I'm hearing sounds like the multi-role concept is great on paper, but not so much in execution. An air force with single mission aircraft might be better than one split between multi-role aircraft due to pilot limitations. I'm sure it's all about getting the most for less... But, is it really a better deal in the end?
Send in the AT 802Us.
Sure wish our government cared as much for Lahainan's and East Palestinians and our struggling vets as they did about foreign nations 6,000 miles away.
Not happy about how fast everyone is jumping into war.
War makes people rich, especially politicians
Cause hamas has so many tanks, I guess.
Every time I talk about how useful the A-10 can still be, 90% of the comments chew me up.
Now that these guys are talking highly of the A-10, everybody's on board.
People don't respond to the message, they respond to the messenger...
The proper name for the F-16 is the PIDGEON!!🤣🤣🤣

A month ago... we had a large number of A-10's training around our regional bombing range. More than I'd ever remember training. The only reason you're using that many would be ground support...
I feel like someone knew this was coming... or was in the works. They have remote viewers in the CIA, DIA, and other 3 acronym agencies who can view into the future.
A10s have good loiter time over the Persian Gulf when interdicting Iranian speed boats highjacking tankers.
reminds me of the inertial guided cluster munition ATACMS in Ukraine right now. We phased them out in favor of precision unitary warheads. But now? Now they're doing work, excelling in a GPS jammed environment, clustering rows of helicopters and other such things. What was thought old and obsolete is very useful again. Same with the cluster artillery. We thought we were done with it, but it's turning out to be extremely useful against the hordes of entrenched infantry. The A-10 is in that same vein. At the end of the day, sometimes you just need a low tech tool. The A-10 is more or less our only medium bomber, it can carry tons of cruise missiles cheaply, or something absurd like 24 decoys. I hope our military planners learn that you still need low tech tools in your tool box. Sometimes you just need a big a** pipe to undo that lug nut
Cluster munitions were phased out of NATO/EU arsenals for unitary warheads because of collateral damage, not because of effectiveness or the "Shiny New Toy" complex. Not every submunition in a cluster bomb/shell will detonate on impact. Sometimes they detonate hours, days, even years later when a friendly soldier; or worse, a civilian kid, steps on it.
Neither Ukraine nor Russia signed the international treaty on reducing/eliminating the use of cluster munitions, hence the reason why both sides are using them. Ukraine never signed it because they didn't have any to begin with nor did they have any plans to develop/purchase any so there wasn't a point to signing it, and Russia didn't sign it because Russia.
But you re 100% correct on the point about a low tech tool. You don't always need a cruise missile when a large rock will do. Partly why we were experimenting with the A-29 Super Tucano in Afghanistan. You don't need a 'Hog (and definitely not an F-16) to deal with a few guys with guns in a clapped out Tacoma when a glorified Cessna with a 50 and a rocket pod will do.
As far as Ukraine, A-29's or AT-6's would be more useful over there than A-10's. You can put a raw civilian in the cockpit and have them flying mission in as little as 6 weeks as opposed to the 6 month minimum needed to learn how to effectively handle the A-10. Further, the A-29 has a smaller heat *and* radar signature, meaning it will be harder for Russian aircraft and SAM systems to track and target them, especially at low altitude. MANPADS would still be a significant threat, but so far all signs point to Ukraine having the numbers advantage on those assets. Not to mention the fact that they're a lot cheaper to buy and fly.
They wouldn't help much against Russian armor, but they would be incredibly useful against infantry, and armor without infantry support is pretty much fancy scrap metal.
Which “cruise missiles” would those be under an A-10?
With the limited life left in these planes I hate to see them flown across the ocean just for a show of force. That adds so many hours to the airframe just in the transit. I would prefer to hold them back until we know for sure they are needed to fight
the good thing is that the deployment flight time is low stress.
I assumed they were already deployed in the area or europe
@moonasha no they flew out from Tucson.
A-10 is a scary bastard.
Everyone knows the A-10's nickname, but only avgeeks and fighter pilots know the F-16 as the Viper.
Oh look the A-10 not retired again.
Brrrtt
354FS 1997-2000 weapons guy
Train up to go to Afghan in summer 2021. Funding pulled, no deployment. Day we're supposed to get there, "we're leaving afghan and ending the GWOT". Unit assigned to lose A-10s and get F-16s, can't deploy new F-16s for x time. Things heat up in middle east again. Sending A-10s first...
Me to the DoD: So you just hate me? Okay.
I suppose I'm asking what happens if you, as a pilot, doubt your cause? Possible mental health minute? Do you know anyone this has happened to?
You would think that after a time, the MIC would understand the need for just another run of brand new A-10's. Middle East bullshit will pop off every 30 years no matter what
How ironic?
Pushing that retirement back once again!
Not really. They weren't going to get retired all at once, only around 40 was the USAF request.

Remember when that orange guy who tweeted mean things was securing world peace and gave us the best economy of our lives? I member.
I remember also
"Any A-10 s could go in there", errr, no, not in Ukraine not really, you keep underestimating the Russians.
Even if they saw some initial success, which I doubt, they would adapt and remove the threat.
Unless/until you destroy the Russian air defense assets you aren't doing anything in Ukraine, at least not with A-10s, no matter which airforce is flying them.
They wouldn't really adapt to the A-10, there's simply no trick up the A-10s sleeves. It has to put itself in the line of fire and it will take losses. It's a very straightforward weapon unlike something like a HIMARS which is very elusive.
Ukraine's air war really just a drone War now. The fixed-wing and choppers are just in the background these days.
A10 has a gun spray of about 2 city buses. Congratulations you didnt just hit the enemy you ruined the building around him
Why would that bother them?

Yes. That's how it works. Until an airframe is scheduled for retirement, it will still be used. As far as I know, it's around 40-something A-10 airfames on the chopping block.
