Thanks for this, just did my 98 with 180,00 on the clock , haven't been this deep in in years, so, followed step by step and got 'er done, chain was sloppy so, put a double roller in there for some longevity. Prwious owner was not that keen on regular oil changes by the look of things, Runs like a champ now!!
It's same for 2002 dakota 3.9v6. Im doing this same thing great video. Both gaskets leaked. Timing an h20 In process reinstall but forgot which timing cover bolts. Do you have picture link of the bolts an length. Do have everything just forgot put bolts into cardboard pic. location. Theres stuf going at home. I know about the two 13mm attached to oil pan. There's two stud like bolt with nut These are the waterjacket bolts right
Where'd you get all the parts? Do you have links for the chain tensioner bracket and chain tensioner? Also do you have a link or part number for the timing chain oil cover oil seal?
I have a question. All 3.9 V6 engines have chain tensioner? This because i have a Ram Wagon 1997. I have changed the timing chain several times and I am sure it does not have a tensioner. Why does this happen?
No not all 3.9 come with a tensioner. You might be able to add one but if not you will need a high end double roller timing set. If you're using a cheap set you will be replacing frequently. You can get away with a cheap set as long as you can add a tensioner which comes with a thrust plate. I don't think you can add one on a 97 but I could be wrong.
@realcdcruze3558 I try not to leave steps out. I will go back and look to see if I left that out. If so I will delete this video and repost with that step added. Thanks for catching that if you're correct on that step being left out.
Diesel, I'm in the process of taking everything off on my 3.9 magnum. I don't need to set timing with balancer? I'm good just to take it off and set timing with the sprockets?
You're correct. Your balancer slides on a keyway at your crankshaft so no way you can mess that up. As long as you got the dot on the cam sprocket at 6 o'clock and the dot on the crankshaft at 12 o'clock before you take it off and the same when you replace with new you are good to go.
@@isolateddieselperformance3261 awesome thank you. If I have any issues I'll send a comment here and get your help. Is it possible the keyways will move during the sprocket change or would it take alot of force to move the keyways? My concern is that everything is good and aligned taking the old sprockets off. But the dots are off by a few teeth when I put the new ones on
Diesel, I got an update. I took the cover off finally, it looks like I got the right chain and sprockets but my chain does not have a tensioner on it. I'll put the chain on and see for sure if it all fits right. I'm hoping I did the right part. The one I got came with a tensioner. But there's a piece under the cam sprocket that looks like it could've been a tensioner that broke off possibly
I talked to him on January the 27th and he said he was going non-stop trying to get caught up. I'm shopping around for someone else that is just as good as he is. If I find someone before he gets to my stuff I'm going to go get it.
Outstanding video, you clearly know what your doing.
Thank you God bless
Outstanding video. Step by step and very thorough. Thank you very much.
You're welcome and thanks for watching.
Awesome video, thanks for showing everything in detail including the torque specs.
You're welcome
Great video! Attention to detail on what to do and easy to follow along!
Thank you!
Best video on RUclips without a doubt
Thanks

@@isolateddieselperformance3261 Al right. Thanks for your answer.
Did you check the timing with a socket before you final covered it to verify it’s in time before you start the engine.
Are you asking if I rotated the engine over by hand before I put the cover back on?
@@isolateddieselperformance3261 yes, sorry I wasn’t more clear. I realise it’s a video so you don’t show everything.

@JtTaylor-mx3tm you must have turned the crank or cam. Make sure piston #1 is at top dead center.
Also are you sure you have the right set for your truck. Compare old with new

no rtv on the pan???????? leak....
Yea you put some at each corner. I must have left that step out when I was editing.

so why did you have to replace it?
Water pump was leaking so I decided to go ahead and replace the timing set while I had everything apart and the fact that it's never been replaced.
