- This video shows you 6 EASY locations where Link can get Giant Ancient cores hidden away in shrine treasure chests located in 6 different shrines throughout Hyrule in Zelda Breath of the Wild. Farming Ancient Guardians to gather monster parts also provides an opportunity for getting Giant cores but is not shown in this video.
If you ever asked yourself what are giant ancient cores used for, or what do ancient cores do, this video is for you. In short, you can use them for obtaining the very powerful Ancient bow from Robbie at the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab which is a SUPER PRECISE bow as well as the Ancient shield. The bow may not be considered an overpowered weapon but it sure is strong. These are EXCLUSIVE ancient weapons in breath of the wild that all of us should pick up at some point. It would have been nice of Nintendo to have those Sledge hammers leaning against the wall rather than in chests. Allowing them to respawn would be convenient for those who use trial and error to figure it out.

I personally like getting them from Guardian Stalkers. It's kind of therapeutic running around them chopping their legs off, then going to town on them, especially when the Master Sword (even without doing the Trial) will be level 60 on them.
I 100% agree with you. I used to just save up and purchase ancient arrows. But now I have more fun swiping the legs then going for the kill

Relatable. They made me suffer for so long early game so when I see one now that I'm basically a walking tank I make sure to ruin their day.
Also, an FYI, the location of that last shrine has a small lake in front of it. That lake is the only location I've found that contains Stealthfin trout. You'll need those for stuff. So it's worth farming oh, 30 of them, or so.

TheJazzMan333: There is also a large lake to the west of the forest on your main map that has a TON of stealthfin trout in it as well. Just make a large circle going from west to east and avoid the fog.

The entire lake surrounding the lost woods has them. Hunt at night so you can see them easier and be sure not to swim too close to the forest
Ancient cores are super hard to come by in BotW. I'm glad you were able to find a bunch. I think I only came across 2-3 ancient ancient cores before this
So true. Its super hard to get them. They are GREAT for using towards buying the Ancient bow which is a super powerful and exteremely accurate bow. Did you get the Ancient bow yet ?
before this, i was actually getting a fair amount of giant cores from farming skywatchers.... much harder to get their attention than people think, but they might have a higher drop rate....

I grinded so many guardians at hyrule castle thinking i can get ancient cores but got none, but instead i got 100 springs 56 screws and 16 ancient cores .
I would save my first 6 giant cores for completing the full upgrades to Ancient Armor. The rest are fair game for whatever weapons I might want.

Actually, hunting for the cores is not that hard. At this point (not meeting Ganon yet) I have 54 ancient cores and 26 giant ancient cores, virtually all from hunting. Using ancient arrows to your advantage to reduce the grind, but still save before kill, and reload if a kill does not result in the loot you want. To hunt the skywatchers, you need to observe their paths and take up positions for a sure shot. For example, they invariably revolve around mountain sides or hills, so take up position just below their paths. Shoot one ancient arrow to hurt and one to kill. Their giant ancient core drop rate is indeed better.

The easiest way to get around the spiral is to put on the mask of whatever monsters you see ahead, and just walk past them. I changed masks as needed, and the only thing that attempted to bother me was one of those rock spitters.

Love it! This was huge bro! Thank you for this. Sometimes I run super low on the giant ancient cores in master mode, anyway... regular mode not so much. I'm actually playing right now and got freakin' 2 of the giant cores for taking down one sky guardian. That's never happened. They were the ones flying around the akkala tower.
I managed to do the second part of the Tempered Power shrine on my second or third try. The solution I found was 5 hits with the sledgehammer and one hit with a spear.
Bro that stasis puzzle made me rage to a whole new level 😂

I killed like 5 guardian stalkers and got 2 giant ancient cores luck
Another use for these cores is to get your guardian armor to enchantment level 4. You'll need 6 cores for the entire set, so it's pretty convenient.
This video: If you complete all shrines, you get 6 giant cores.
You could have gone over treasure chests, too. For instance there was one in the Akkala labyrinth containing a giant core, somewhere in the top left corner and that's just off the top of my head.
I was just thinking the same thing. I have all these shrines, but they can't be the only places to get giant cores. It was a helpful video for other people but I clicked on video expecting it to be ways that aren't completing shrines.

I've gotten a giant core or two from the flying guardians above the labyrinth at the northeast corner of the map. They're pretty easy to take down one by one if you have ancient arrows.
I was hoping he'd tell me an easier way to get them to spawn when defeating guardians.
The best way I've found is to make sure your wearing your Guardian armor (Lv 2 - 4) and also make sure you are using your ancient bow and ancient arrows. Finally make sure you kill the walking guardians and the flying guardians in 1 shot. If anyone finds a better way please let me know. But doing all that I've said seems to spawn ancient cores and if your lucky, giant ancient cores almost every time...but getting that money shot in killing the guardians is the real task! Cheers!
Doing that is fast...but every time you kill a Guardian with an ancient arrow you get 0 loot from them, it' much better to parry 3 lasers from them and get the loot, it takes a bit of practice but once you get used to it it's rather easy. The trick is simple: when he's aiming at you with the red light wait, then the guardian will shine blue about 0,5 seconds before shooting at you, that's the moment you have to smash the A button to parry.

4:40 for that shrine, if you know how to windbomb, hit the ball into the water, windbomb over and you can climb up on one of the towers, and then use cryonis to cross the water, and windbomb back, you will need a decent amount of stamina and likely an energizing food too
The easiest way for me to carry the orb around the spiral island is just do it with your stealth armor or stealth meal, at night in the rain so enemies don't notice you. You can just run the whole way. When you hear the octo things throwing a rock they will hit you every time if you run forward but when you hear the throw, snap the L stick backwards and they'll miss.
You realize there is a non shrine related core right? I can't load my stuff now but its inside the abandoned temple with tons of broken guardians and a shrine at the back along the way one of the wind currents hides a secret drop down to find a notch in the wall open that chest to find a giant ancient core this chest also is a bit tricky because I came back once and I found it respawn and 300 rupees in it I dunno if it is like an infinite money thing per blood moon but just tossing in the mention

Hyrule Dude that abandoned temple with a shrine at the end with the giant statue of hylia with like 30 decayed guardians and 3 wind currents drop down and right around the current there is a hole in the wall with a chest it has a giant ancient core in it I reopened it once and got 300 rupees I guess it refreshes with other chests per blood moon or was a strange glitch I don't know I only bothered with this once I get my "infinite rupees" by collecting lots of luminous stones and give the Zora 10 for a diamond since luminous stones are easy finds
how close to the shrine is it? or how far into the Hidden Temple is it?

It's easy to get to the Zuna Kai shrine. Just go the Hinox by Gut Check Rock and use revali's gale to glide to the pillar, you hardly need to climb!

Like the video. I am a newer BOTW player, still working through the game the first time. That first shrine on the twisty loop there, I figured if I had Majora’s Mask it would help. Tested it carrying the orb all are the loop using speed up food because it’s so slow. No problem from the enemies. So that helps too in case the ice cubes give you trouble like it did me (until you learn to center it as you said! ;-) )
Also, I used Kilton’s various monster masks since most of the groups of enemies are of one kind. Once I got past the first group as I walked,
I saw who was ahead of me and simply changed masks to match the enemy, again, worked perfectly with no enemy attacks.
I like your method the best now and wish I had thought of that. But the mask’s come in very, very handy. I swear, when the masks arrived I remember thinking “how dumb are these, they’re just ‘digital collectibles’. Oh, I was so very wrong. These various masks are priceless. Especially if you are on a 120 quest like I am and don’t want to be bogged down for certain spends of time just hunting shrines! 112 down, just 8 to go

I really like your videos. Always packed with detailed and useful information. And MOST important, you know how to speak in a video. I can’t tell you how many videos I drop in two seconds when you hear the uploader is mumbling, ummm-ing constantly with a dry monotone voice. Very few of the makers out here are great narrators of their videos, you are certainly one of them. Many times, that is more important than the content! will actually ruin the video with poor narration. Fortunately, as someone used to public speaking and crowds, it’s appreciated when someone knows how to communicate.

Also... FYI!! The chests in the video will most likely give you Giant Ancient Cores, YES! But... If you're unlucky like me... There is the chance that some of these chests will NOT reward you with a Giant Core!! 2 of the chests in this video gave me something different on my 2nd playthrough... Which is awfully weird considering ALL of these chests gave me Giant Cores on my 1st playthrough...

Yesterday i killed a guardian stalker and it dropped 2 giant ancient cores and a regular ancient core. So I was basically soft resetting this one guardian stalker while hunting for ancient cores for the guardian armor. I wasnt finding anything for a while and i was about to give when ALL OF A SUDDEN the guardian drops 2 giant ancient cores and a regular ancient core. Me and my sister (who was watching the whole ) were freaking out. Freaking best day of my life.

Hey Hyrule Dude, if you use a one handed weapon, that second ball at 4:20 is crazy easy. I couldn't get it to save my life with a two handed weapon because the angle is just so difficult to line up, so I looked online and someone said to use a one handed weapon and hit it like 9-10 times. 2 tries later and I got it.
On my second play through now and I did it on the first time. You should try it out.

Hyrule Dude I just couldn't do it. I broke all my two handed weapons trying to do it. For whatever reason, you get a lot more control when you use a one handed weapon.
+Hyrule Dude If you use the Drillbit in Mirro Shaz and hit the 1st orb 12 times and second orb 14 times you'll get it every time
Late to this thread, but that 2nd ball you can just pick up and move it. Then you don't have to worry about the angle, just hit it straight lol.
With the golf, if you press ZL to lock onto the ball and position yourself straight with the ball, it helps a lot.

Every Giant Ancient Core is a new Ancient Bow. I have 4 Ancient bows. They shoot straight at range.

For the dead end in the Korok forest trial, cryonis works on bogs.
I killed over 40 guardians (I started counting them, then lost count halfway through) that consisted of skywatchers, stalkers and turrets, and I only got one giant ancient core. How do people get 2 every time?

Maybe if you use ancient armor to kill them it has a higher chance of appearing
drop rate is 0.5% so one in 40 is already good luck, you'h had to kill 200 in average to get only one giant core

No giant core at the Zuna Kai shrine - chest just had a Flameblade. And you can't start a fire to cross the mud pit because the wooden Korok sword won't spark flint to light a fire.
cryonis also works to cross that swamp
who even uses flint just use A fire arrow

That one at 4:50, I discovered that if you hit the orb 13-14 times with a spear, it's enough to reach the platform and put the orb in the hole, other weapons are quite tougher because either they miss the target going too fast or don't reach the platform hitting the water instead, spears are the best for that second part.

Hahahaha. When I pulled out that spear was the first time I tried it and it worked lol :)
I missed this Giant Core in my first playthrough, I got the hammer and left thinking oh well, this shrine is done. In my second playthrough I discovered that you can go around the Sheikah...and then I saw this second puzzle and my gosh, that was tough. The hammer and any 2 handed weapon do something like 2-4-6-8-10 to the orb, where the orb at 6 remains in the water and at 8 goes above the platform...I decided to use different weapons and nothing worked, until I used a damn spear, the control and THE ANGLE it provides it's a lot better, it goes upwards and 13-14 hits are the deal.
Just yesterday, I was able to finally finish a full set of guardian armor. Very cool. If I’m able to play today, I’m thinking of tackling Vah Medoh - maybe.
too bad they don't respawn with blood moon... lol.... great guide btw... awesome job

Oh, so that's how decayed Guardians respawn, the bloodmoon! I had been wondering how, and thanks for solving my question.
PS, the more Guardians you kill, the sooner the blood moon. Try it, just sleep repeatedly for the equivalent of a month in the game after the most recent blood moon, not killing anything, then go to the Forgotten Temple, wiping out all of them- ALL OF THEM, and the following night you'll get a blood moon. They put a higher priority on Guardians, taking out too many triggers blood moons after the time requirement has been passed.

For the Trial of the Wood shrine quest, I climbed to the top of the trees and jumped from treetop to treetop towards the end because I didn't have any bows, wood, or flint to create an draft/upwind.

In the first shrine with the spiraling land, If you set the orb down by one of the giant monsters and swim across he will use it as a weapon and throw it at you across the water. A little quicker way of getting it across.
Mighty usefull concept you present for the solution to this particular shrine quest. Other I've seen, grind this one out. I said bullshit, and did it your way.
Any one that sells a giant ancient core for rupies is dumber than a ROCK unless they want to limit their strengths.
For me, giant cores are common and regular cores are VERY RARE!!!! I'm sadly not exaggerating... It's soo bad I've had 10 giant cores at once and I'm thinking about selling them since I get them almost every guardian stalker kill. I already have the ancient bow and I'm getting the last piece of ancient armor before the shield. After that, goodbye giant nearly useless cores (or, at least, nearly useless for me so far)
I'm not sure about that, if you do the save/reload method with Guardian Crawlers, then you should get a Giant Core eventually. Also after you upgrade the Ancient Armour Set, and get 1 Ancient bow & shield, you really don't need the Giant Ancient cores for anything else. Ancient bow is alright but it can't beat the Savage Lynel bow with 5x arrows, seriously shoot 5 ancient arrows at a guardian and look at it crawl up and die (no exact aim required). As for the shield while its great for guardians (because it reflects the beams etc), its fully outshined by the Hylian shield and hylian shield is a lot easier to get back compared to the ancient shield.
To be honest whats most important is ancient cores, because in the game the highest damage dealth is wearing Ancient Armour, using ancient/guardian weapons & having a banana meal for 3x attack boost. The dmg, dealth will be most in the game. Add to that guardian weapons a scarce to come by as you have to loot them from Major/Modest shrines (they also have low durability. So the best weapons to stock up on are buying the Ancient weapons (especially the one-handed sword and chainsaw, they have awesome durability and decent dmg).

So, in the video about ancient cores, Zuna Kai was there, now it’s there again, but it still has a flame blade.
You missed a giant core in the Forgotten Temple... In the last trench just before the shrine there is a small door that leads to a chest. In that chest is a Giant Core. If you get a chest with the Ruppie, you need to move one trench closer to the shrine. Check it out.

You can get past the swamp in the korok trial by simply clumbing the horror trees on the right and paragliding from one to the other.... in future don't say "its not possible", just say "i couldn't find a way"

you should place the mirror shrine as the last one. now I'm pissed from so many trials and not inclined to try any of the others after that.
For the Into the Vortex, once you've got the sphere on a pillar, whack the hell out of it with stasis, it'll go flying, and make your job easier.
You can use Cryonis to freeze bog water (even though it’s muddy and can kill you). That’s how I got through it.
