Pretty sure I recall that this song was originally a sea song with a sailor asking his mates not to bury him at sea, "oh bury me not, in the deep dark sea", and it was later adapted by travelers on land. I know of a few songs like that.
Lone PRAIRIE that Gramps loved and drove cattle on would have been better than the forsaken cemetery of Chalmette below New Orleans.where he is buried.
Where Oh Where is this statue to the Cowboy? I have a photo taken by the side of the huge Buffalo in Jamestown North Dakota, I doubt that many visitors from England can say that.

Well, I've got to tell you, boyo that a better guess would be that that "indigenous" looking dude was looking "uneasy" because of the fact that HIS people had to WALK to America, across the Asiatic land bridge, because his ancestors were too backward to build ships like the ones manned by the ancestors of the guy on the horse (which were ALSO brought by the white "invaders"). Moreover, after they got here, his forebears sat around doing basically nothing,
while the dudes across the sea developed those ships, the means to navigate them and the weapons to enable their people to take control when they, thanks to their courage and ambition, arrived in the New World. Yeah, I know, the truth hurts. Too bad. It's all down in Darwins' book.
What an insensitive, racist comment! You, who ever you are, is adding insult to an injury to those who suffered in the past whose wounds will never heal because of people like you.

Sweet music
Man I love their harmonies and the sounds of their voices. Wish I knew who was which voice and could name each guy.
Skelet3n there have been so many over the years. Roy Rogers, Pat Brady, Bob Nolan, old Festus himself, Ken Curtis, Shug Fisher, to name a few.
Lovely. In later times the Brothers Four had harmonies like this.
I Love this song ❤❤🎉🎉
Don't ????!!!! Who would not like to be buried on the lone prairie. Away from it all forever
I was 1995 on the Cochrane Ranch. A very nice place on earth.

If you don;t mind me asking, where did you find the recording of this song? I can't find it anywhere!

You know you just went searching for it.

Wouldn’t be a surprise if Page claimed it as one of his original songs.
