  • Hi, welcome to another instalment of the work on renovating our 120 year old house in lower Normandy, France.
    It's been a while since I posted as I've been doing lots of little bits and pieces inside and out as the weather permits, so I didn't think I had anything to post until I went through what I had recorded. So here is a video I managed to piece together of our top floor stairs and landing area getting ready for paint.

    Loved seeing your hallway and stairs being cleaned and the stain on the floors. Can’t wait to see the bedrooms done. Good job!

    You make it look so easy but I’m sure it wasn’t, great work as always.

      It was actually quite repetitive and boring, lots of filling and sanding, but good prep work gives a good result so its worth it

    If you are late to this party...go back and see the original state of this house and how much wonderful work has been accomplished.
    This grand ol'lady is looking so much more loved. You are a marvel.

    Great job ,you’re getting the house into such good shape. I wondered if you would try some oxalic acid on that dark section of floor before varnish , it might have helped bleach the wood .

      It didn't look that bad until it was varnished. Like I said there is a rug going over it anyway.

    Looks great. Are you and your wife living full time there now? Could you do a video that just walks us through all the rooms you've finished. It's been a long time in between some of those rooms to remember. Thanks.

    Espero que se haya entendido,felicitaciones y saludos desde Argentina .

      Gracias por tus comentarios, siempre es un placer leerlos. En realidad, mi canal no intenta ser "un programa de entretenimiento", así que no incluyo muchas tomas de relleno innecesarias, solo me concentro en lo que he estado haciendo este mes.

    Lovely job as always. Is it just choosing a colour that's a problem or perhaps the paint quality and cost? A lot of the u-tubers appear to have unlimited access to UK supplies of paint. If anyone heads back to the white cliffs they must all go with everyone's wish list.☺

    • @frenchhouseadventure
      @frenchhouseadventure  27 дней назад +1

      Cost is the big factor, paint is very expensive in France. We have a trip to the UK planned for next month, some paint may come back with us, lol

    Can you open up the stairway so the spindles are open to the room? Looks great as usual.

      The whole idea was to keep the areas separate to stop the heat going up to parts of the house we don't use.

    Would that be your last room to finish?

    • @frenchhouseadventure
      @frenchhouseadventure  27 дней назад +1

      The main salon needs work, the small WC is still untouched and the ground floor hallway needs a new ceiling, so it is almost the last room.

    Can i ask please. I watched a previous episode where you fixed up a bedroom alcove (previously bathroom), and put in insulation and board. Can this process be used for stone and lime walls? I know breathability is very important but would this still be ok? I ask as your first insulating layer was a foil type layer attached to batons.

    • @frenchhouseadventure
      @frenchhouseadventure  12 часов назад

      To install the foil type insulation there must be a gap above and below the foil, this should allow the wall to breathe. My walls are stone and I've not had any problems so far

      @zie9171 9 часов назад

      @frenchhouseadventure hi, thanks for responding. Interesting. I'll watch that episode again with the view to doing the same. I presume the second layer of insulation doesn't need the gap. You made the process look really easy. Thank you.
