Always fun to re-watch your old stuff :) Damn, this was Jay Butter instead of Cutler :D But credit has to be given where it is due: his back double bicep (at least from the waist above) murders the others. It looks like as if he would have had 20 pounds of additional muscle just on his back compared to the rest - even Ronnie. Crazy density. His glutes and hams were soft as a baby's though. Also, Dex really peaked between 07-09 and he was screwed of a silver medal at least in 2 occasions (here and in 09). He was SHARP and ready to take advantage of any situation, any of the big guys coming in 90% or below. He couldn't defeat politics though...

Cutler has also been robbed earlier, the key is to keep challenging the champion again and again. Victor Martinez should have brought this kind of physique more times in Olympia. It takes time to dethrone a reigning champ. And almost all multiple Olympia owners have won once or twice, that they did not deserve to win.....be it Arnold, Ronnie, Jay .....
Except thats not how it should work and the rules dont state that. The competition is there to crown the best physique that year, not getting the title because of favoritism even though you looked clearly better goes against ifbb rules. I can agree with a system that if everything else is tied, you favor the champ but that was not happening here AT ALL. Victor was the clearly better bodybuilder and deserved the title

I must say that I totally agree with your assessment, you were right on the money. Victor completely owned Jay, he was more conditioned, dryer, bigger and had better symmetry along with fuller muscle bellies on his back and arms. I really like Jay for everything he brought to the scene every year but I must admit 2007 belonged to Victor Martinez!

I immediately knew that it would not be worth cheering for your favourite bodybuilder, Because he wasn't going to win, even if he deserved to. This is why I believe the sport is so predictable. Even the sports insiders will not call out the IFBB for fear of being blacklisted.
Doesn't apply to modern bodybuilding. The political decisions at the olympia haven't been a real thing for 3+ years now in any competitions, and they only happened once at the olympia in the 2010's, in 2014. 2017 was kinda controversial too, but Ramy lacked separation that year.

The past winner has a small waist (for a 300lbs guy it's even tiny) and well defined abs, the one before that a small waist and decently defined abs, and the one before that had a tiny waist and amazing abs + obliques.

Both of those poses are borderline knockout punches, not that close. This contest went 4-4, all poses being clear and decisive. Phil won as the guts were not penalized at the time like they are now, it wasn't as bad of a decision as 2007 or 1997 but not far off.

The most controversial placing in 2007 in my opinion was Wolf in 5th place he should have been in the top 3 and I would have had Wolf in 2nd place in 2007. Honestly, after watching this video I am more convinced that it wasn't as much of a robbery as I had first assumed. Sure, Jay wasn't numero uno by a long shot, but he wasn't near as behind I had imagined. I would have given Victor or dexter first, victor or dexter second, and jay third.

Yeah I remember hating the 06 Olympia with a passion because the original RUclips video had this garish red lighting that made them all look like juicy rotisserie chickens, especially Jay. But going back and watching clips with better lighting I think he deserved it. Was better than Coleman for sure and was just soooo much bigger than Dex or Vic, and not as off as in 07 or 08.
Yeah, 06 and 07 was the "dark times" Olympia. At least in 06 they had some minimal effort put into lighting, but 2007 was a joke. Originally I also hated the decision that they "robbed" Ronnie of his 9th title, but looking back he was asimetric, and just visible beaten up as far as his body goes. But he was still in better condition than Jay :D
Jay had some asymmetry issues too in this show. Which was part of what made 2009 so amazing. And his A.R.T. massage therapy to treat it has been pretty well documented.

Jay was amazing and had one of the best bodies ever 2001- 2003 not just at the o but in many others like the arnold and iron man. those were some of his best physiques ever, when he really chased the size, it showed, but imo i think he still looked great
The idea that glutes have to be shredded is asinine. That’s a modern invention of bodybuilding that only goes to show how close these guys are to death on stage. Training used to be about “health and fitness.” I’m sorry those days have disappeared.
But 2005 and even 2001 is debatable, he could have won at least one of those. Not to mention the "interesting" versus round of 2004 when Jay had a point of advantage until the last matchup against Ronnie, like if it was a movie. And previously Ronnie won the "abs and thighs" against guys like Dexter...it's a joke :D
I liked Dex the most here, the only shots he was giving up completely to the other competitors where the ones where he wasn't even hitting the pose properly, either because of misstimed shots or because he was jostling for position. I'm really digging victor as well here, wasn't as sharp as the Blade but definately a lot sharper than Jay and with size to match on most shots. Honestly, it should have been between Dexter and Victor, either would have been fine for me, Jay got the pitty win, his mass was great but he was incredibly soft just like you mentioned. Lower body was very solid but it comes to the upper body I even think King Coleman had him beat in just about every shot where they weren't showcasing arms and lats. Ronnie may have been a mess symetry-wise but even then he looks considerably harder than Jay, he completely smoked Jay in the most moscular though Dexter pretty much smoked them all.
As much as I Love Jays overall structure in most poses(besides the most muscular, never his best) I def see what U mean by him not being in great shape this year. Victor was super awesome here, kinda like a few others like Kevin L and Flex who seem like they should have taken the O at least once. Damn Dennis looked great too, not the best front and back double biceps but amazing in so many other poses as well as really conditioned. You brought up some great points. Jays structure though is amazing despite his less conditioned physique, he never really had arm/bicep veins throughout his whole career
D Leigh 100% agree with that order. Ronnie sadly should have sat out and let BB comp go and Jay presented a poor package making his flaws stand out unlike his 09 & 2010. Where Jays conditioning hide any genetic flaw extremely well.

For years I've heard how Victor should've won this. He was in the best shape ever, but it still! wasn't enough to beat Dexter!! Yeah, a robbery did happen, but it happened to The Blade's legacy. Dexter Jacskon was the clear winner of this Olympia.
Very simple: With Ronnie on the stage, the name of the game was mass. And Jay was bigger than all of them. So, if you look at it trough that lens, Jay won fairly. Now, if they'd be looking at aesthetics, Dex should have got it in my point of view. He was far more aesthetic than any other on that stage.

i’ve met jay and vic a few times during my tenure on the amateur circuit. super nice guys. politics plays a role in this business without a doubt.

Jay was amazing and had one of the best bodies ever 2001- 2003 not just at the o but in many others like the arnold and iron man. those were some of his best physiques ever, when he really chased the size, it showed, but imo i think he still looked great
2001 he look decent but not as good as bodybuilders like Shawn ray, flex wheeler, kevin Levrone, dexter jackson, and Victor Martinez

The idea that glutes have to be shredded is asinine. That’s a modern invention of bodybuilding that only goes to show how close these guys are to death on stage. Training used to be about “health and fitness.” I’m sorry those days have disappeared.

But 2005 and even 2001 is debatable, he could have won at least one of those. Not to mention the "interesting" versus round of 2004 when Jay had a point of advantage until the last matchup against Ronnie, like if it was a movie. And previously Ronnie won the "abs and thighs" against guys like Dexter...it's a joke :D

I liked Dex the most here, the only shots he was giving up completely to the other competitors where the ones where he wasn't even hitting the pose properly, either because of misstimed shots or because he was jostling for position. I'm really digging victor as well here, wasn't as sharp as the Blade but definately a lot sharper than Jay and with size to match on most shots. Honestly, it should have been between Dexter and Victor, either would have been fine for me, Jay got the pitty win, his mass was great but he was incredibly soft just like you mentioned. Lower body was very solid but it comes to the upper body I even think King Coleman had him beat in just about every shot where they weren't showcasing arms and lats. Ronnie may have been a mess symetry-wise but even then he looks considerably harder than Jay, he completely smoked Jay in the most moscular though Dexter pretty much smoked them all.
As much as I Love Jays overall structure in most poses(besides the most muscular, never his best) I def see what U mean by him not being in great shape this year. Victor was super awesome here, kinda like a few others like Kevin L and Flex who seem like they should have taken the O at least once. Damn Dennis looked great too, not the best front and back double biceps but amazing in so many other poses as well as really conditioned. You brought up some great points. Jays structure though is amazing despite his less conditioned physique, he never really had arm/bicep veins throughout his whole career

and Jay presented a poor package making his flaws stand out unlike his 09 & 2010. Where Jays conditioning hide any genetic flaw extremely well.
The contest, the show, is a beauty pageant. Jay just looks better overall, with hair, etc. he is a better ambassador for the sport. That’s why.

For years I've heard how Victor should've won this. He was in the best shape ever, but it still! wasn't enough to beat Dexter!! Yeah, a robbery did happen, but it happened to The Blade's legacy. Dexter Jacskon was the clear winner of this Olympia.

Very simple: With Ronnie on the stage, the name of the game was mass. And Jay was bigger than all of them. So, if you look at it trough that lens, Jay won fairly.
Now, if they'd be looking at aesthetics, Dex should have got it in my point of view. He was far more aesthetic than any other on that stage.

The real reason he got robbed was the IFBB knew that he was guilty of selling steroids.. he went to prison the following day /week. They can not have a Mr.Olympia who is convicted and guilty of selling steroids. It would look bad for business.
