    Good observations. I often wonder the extent to which Phil's apparent leg overdevelopment (particularly his adductors) is actually a function of his posing technique. He turns his legs out, points his knees out, way more than any of his competitors, and he does that in every one of his shots. Compare that to a guy like Dorian who always had his knees pointing straight out, and it made his quads appear even narrower than they already were.

    Phill Heath's reign reminds me of Dorian Yates's Olympia run. In one of his first years Dorian peaked (93) and Phil has done the same (2011). Then he started getting worse by the year like Yates did. Now we have the situation where Heath is trying to emulate his peak year just like Dorian tried in 95 and 96. It also quite resembles Coleman's Olympia run, peaking early, getting worse year by year and then trying to emulate the peak year's (1998/1999) condition after criticism.
    Funny to say the least. I still like Phillip, I think he is a nice guy, but it doesn't show that much because we are all condemning him based on social media, on which we all act like dicks every day lol.

    he got too big, that's what it is, his physique is not pleasing to look at anymore, with his narrow structure he can't afford to have a big mid section, and he didn't even need to do it, look at Dexter, dude looks almost the same for the last 15 years, he never ruined his physique by getting to big..the lighting at the Mr Olympia gets worse every year tho, it's just horrible, it was better 20 years ago tbh, one light coming from above and that's enough, nowadays they look like washed out zombies with all the lights pointing at them..

    • @Tomn8er
      @Tomn8er  7 лет назад +29

    awesome vid once again, Always thought 2016's Phil was missing something. It was his triceps! His traps from both front and back looked somehow flatter too. might be the lighting. His "back"(lats mostly) might have gotten better in 2016 but if i were to pick one, 2013's back-double-bi is his all time best and arguably all time best in history of bodybuilding. Just perfection.

    Because of the lighting many don't realize how amazing he was in 2013.
    This year (2016) no one was close BUT his abs have become a weak point to his overall look. I like Tom8 have noticed Phil's glutes receding like Ramy's did this year..What's Up? One thing Tom8 didn't mention was Phil's delts are starting to look very scar tissued/losing detail. Look at Brandon Curry's recent pics of how delts should look for reference as far as real muscle detail. Curry recent pic: scontent.cdninstagram.com/t51.2885-15/s750x750/sh0.08/e35/16789443_379628502406156_2641718325163327488_n.jpg

  • @bpraise517
    @bpraise517 7 лет назад +1

    Great video...in back dbl the issue is tightness in his arms and shoulders...which caused tri and biceps to look different...leg gains cost his glute and legs conditioning of 13...his waist almost had to become blocky due to legs and upper gains and delt width...to balance his body...also 6 and 3 years older too...its just body changes with age.

  • @notimportant3686
    @notimportant3686 7 лет назад +14

    the trio at 10:57 his lats look worse because of the pose... look at the position of his arms in all 3 photos... he is regressing in his posing... his wrists are way to close together up top and his whole arms are rotated forward ad the shoulder/elbow... it's like a loss of flexibility... look how much better he is standing in the left photo vs right... more upright... no forward tilt int he arms... and they are spread further apart...
    he was either hurt or (more likely) lost flexibility and didn't bother practicing his posing to retain it

    Phil has only improved, his back, his legs as early as 2012 could have been something that held him back as far against ramy, rhoden, dennis wolf... now his legs are probably the best. He used to have a weak back when he turned pro, now best back. He grew his delts... best delts... His arms are still the same, Chest is full and defined. He had an issue in 2014 when his gut. He personally told me, personally told me he was sick in 2014 but never told anyone. He came back strong in finals in 2014 and took it home. In 2015 he waist, abs were controlled again, same in 2016... his waist not as small as 2011 but still very good. If I had to rate. 2011 he was most ripped. 2013 he was the fullest so far. 2016 he had the fullness of 2013 and conditioning of 2011. In fact 2016 was his vest conditioning to date. He was grainy, ripped. If you look at his hams and glutes from 2011, 2013 they are fuller and more striated in 2016. Now some of his posing like of front double bi and lat spread need work. Idk of those poses are uncomfortable for him but he didn't hit them well in his mandatory poses. I like his side chest because he is showcasing not only his chest but his detailed mid section. Look at his obliques, serratus ham-glutd tie, forearms, triceps in that shot. Judges look at all of that. I was very impressed with Phil in 2016, after sub standard 2014, 2015 for him, he knocked it out again. If history repeats itself he was not look as impressive in 2017. It was 2011, then 2013, 2016 that he wowed the bodybuilding world. I would like to see the fullness of 2013 and grainy like in 2016! That would be awesome! lol

    the quads aren't bigger, he just rotates his feet further out. this is made apparent by way of comparing the position of the quad cuts. they are pointing out along with the feet. his legs are the same as 2013 and will likely diminish from here on out. Phil is very good at cheating his appearance. the calves are rotated inward, too.

  • @monsoon1174
    @monsoon1174 7 лет назад +1

    One factor about Phil's FDB is that in 2016, his biceps are just plain larger than the other two years. In 2013 and 2011, his left bicep is smaller than his right bicep, creating a-symetry. 2016 fixed that discrepancy as well.
    I would argue that the back poses are all 2016 imo. 3 reasons, superior thickness as you mentioned, better hamstring definition DESPITE worse lighting, and look at the sweep of his triceps. They are actually better in 2016 than the other two years. It's weird as hell. His arms are worse in the side shots, but better in the FDB and RDB.
    Overall, 2013 is his best year though. He should play to his strength's like you said.

    • @Tomn8er
      @Tomn8er  7 лет назад +1

      His biceps may have grown but it's probably just because he's contracting more fully. Look at how much closer his hands are to his head. That's going to accentuate bicep peak. His left arm is still bigger in 2016. Just look at the distance from his bicep peak to his tricep sweep, even eyeballing you can tell the left one is larger. It's a minor asymmetry though. Dexter has it worse.
      Your argument for back poses is a fair one though. Thanks for commenting!

    • @monsoon1174
      @monsoon1174 7 лет назад

      I would say the peak is relatively the same in all years. I was more mentioning how the left and right bicep sizes evened out substantially from 2011 to 2016. Even though they are more curled up, his right bicep doubled in size from 2013 to 2016. I wouldn't call that all just him curling his arms more.
      To be clear, however, I wasn't arguing that the FDB was better in 2016. I was just mentioning the bicep asymmetry and larger left bicep as something that improved. His shitty posing makes 2016 his worse FDB of all his years ever imo, but I jsut wanted to mention that he did improve in certain respects.

But in finals, he for sure came in fuller, but lost some details, and you could definitely see he was having hard time holding the gut between transitions. Made him sweat too much and at some points he looked just like him in 2014. watery with sweat, distended gut etc. 2013 is imo his all time best. his traps/triceps were much fuller. tighter mid-section, did not have hard time holding the pose.

    It seems that bodybuilders that prioritize core exercises don't get mutated fogged out midsections. Kai Greene has always been bloated lets be honest, however, he does a shit ton of core during his workouts. Even though he's always rocking that bubble gut, his midsection still remains defined. I believe phil just doesn't workout his midsection enough, and his abdominal muscles are too weak to handle the outward pressure that his organs exert.

    Like honestly Phil could have quit playing the size game and 2011 and just maintained and kept coming in pretty peeled and TV and way better shape his wouldn't be nearly as bloated as it is or as it was but I'm sure most people know how it is with body dysmorphia and never thinking you're big enough and I mean it's bodybuilding so the point of it is to keep getting bigger keep putting on muscle I'm sure he just never imagined his gut would be where it is not like he had a crystal ball and could seem to the Future

    Dude your scaling is off man.. His tricep sweep actually increased in 2016 than those previous years.. I'm shocked that you didn't mention this during the entire video and I was waiting for you to say it but instead you said his arms look much MUCH BIGGER in 2013 than 2016.. geez please analyze better next time.. You even said his rear delts added extra cap in 2016 so why did the thought of his bigger delts dwarfing his arms escape your mind? Yeah the biceps look flatter but the triceps clearly had more sweep in 2016 than those 2 earlier years period.
