Say what you want but style and mechanics that pb1 used (such as a piece of glass from barrel can kill you or your enemies or just very good psychics if we talking about flash game) is just so timeless i bet it inspired many game creators these times

I remember playing the game for a whole day when I was young and still not finishing it, the enemies in the last level are especially hard

Here's some cool things I found in this game:
1. (You already did this but I will tell it anyway) You can complete Level 6 and Level 11 without killing. Level 6 can be completed by grenade jumping from the platform at the start to the top of the wall, and you can advance through the roof and jump off to the end. Level 11, just point the gun of the car diagonally, and the drones will try to hit you from the corner but will often miss. They will still damage you, though, but don't worry about them.
2. If you pause the game right when an enemy is hit with a grenade, you can see their legs rapidly flashing through the legs of all the enemies in the game (and the protagonists), along with their running and jumping animations.
3. In some levels, you can grenade jump high above into the sky and land on the platforms above. There, you can walk really long and make some jumps, but it eventually leads to falling to your death. You can even walk inside the platforms.
4. Level 2 has a faster way to complete. When you reach the second small platform (above the two soldiers inside the glass barrier), you can grenade jump onto the roof and then walk your way through the stage. That way you can fall down into the last room, where the Grub is. That won't end the level, unless you walk in the space in front of the Grub. You can easily kill the Grub from the right and he won't even notice you.
5. When you move your mouse to the bottom right of the screen, you will see a small green square in the middle of the crosshair. When you shoot the gun, the square becomes darker until you let go of the mouse.
6. The outside is shown in all levels except for Level 16.
7. (You already did this too) When you're fighting the Sword Bot, you don't need to destroy it with the door. You can just grenade jump over it and it won't even look for you behind. It just keeps going forward. However, it only moves when you are far away from it. Going close to it will activate its attacking mode. That way, you can grab your teammate and drag him away from the robot as fast as you can. But, you can't do that right when the robot starts moving. If you do, the robot will be stuck in its attack mode and you can't move far away from it because the ship is blocking you. Your only choice left is to kill yourself.
8. In the v1.7 release, in Level 5, the enemy soldiers are replaced with other soldiers who wear the same outfit as the player. They can't be harmed by the player and they don't wear helmets. They follow the player throughout the level, meaning they can be recruited allies. Also when they appear, a text says "Reinforcement have arrived", but that is not clear to the plot of the game.
9. When you open a door in the game, the bullets go through the door in the middle of its animation. But when you close it, the bullets collide with the outside. That's because Eric did not program it to have the details like in most games.
10. If you turn on the music in the game after it's been turned off, and turn it back off again, not only the music will be turned off, but the ambient sounds in the rooms (like the wind in the outside).

@@sanderbos4243 Well, I don't have a Discord account sadly, but that's fine. Also, I forgot about three more things I found out about (or if there's more)
- At the end of Level 6 and Level 7, the platforms behind the finish line are not solid, and you can push dead bodies inside those platforms so they can fall through.
- If you type the cheat 'nextlv' on Level 16, you will be sent to an absolutely empty level with nothing in it (no walls, no floors, no enemies, just an empty outside void). This level kills you instantly, so you have to restart endlessly until you give up and quit.
- At the end of Level 10, if you manage to jump over the jeep where your teammate is (with the help of a grenade), you will reach a pit where you can see the full scenery outside, along with a Falkok which appears out of nowhere in mid-air and falls into the pit. Pretty weird, but this Falkok doesn't even get a chance to attack you, and it doesn't make it in time to use its jetpack. The reason behind this could probably be intentional, or maybe Eric put it in the wrong stage in the wrong spot by accident.

you can do the same skip on 7 if you get the right angle
I remember when I finished the game & had every upgrade/weapon available, I would do all the levels again. I would play Three little birds(Bob Marley) on repeat at the start & just completely massacre and obliterate the enemies in every level. Soft & classical music go so well with violence😂.

I found it hard as balls as well for the first few times I played it, but you get used to the jank after a while, so do give it another try using Flashpoint or something! :-)

How do u get such good grenade launches like the one at 2:31. I understand the importance of jumping and I’ve managed to get a couple good jumps, but idk how u get such far jumps. Does it have something to do with crouching beforehand?
Good question, I'll add that to the Guides section on the speedrun page that's in the description.
Yes, crouching gets the center of your player closer to the ground, which is where the grenade explodes. The closer your center is to the grenade, the further you can go with grenades.
What also seems to help is if you start crouch walking towards the direction you want to fly, which makes quite a lot of sense if you think about it. The problem with crouch walking away from the grenade though is of course that your center will go further away from the grenade, which means the grenade will give you less of a push.
The best strategy seems to be crouch walking away from the grenade a few frames before the grenade explodes, so you get the benefit from crouching and the benefit from walking towards where you want to fly. It takes a bit of practice, but you'll get a feel for what I am saying if you try it for a bit. You can see how I crouch walk away from the grenade a few frames before the grenade explodes if you look closely at 2:16.
The exact opposite is shown at 4:28, where you want to make sure you stand + jump in a way so your center is as far away from the grenade's blast as possible, because otherwise you'll take too much fall damage when landing and you can't finish the level without dying on the second jump down.

I liked the way pb1 feels compared to 2, i dont like the characters ragdolling when alive
Same. I prefer PB1 over PB2 as a speedrunning game. The ragdolling *looks* cool, but can be incredibly infuriating when an enemy with a jetpack slams at mach 5 into you, and you die from being flung into a wall.
@@sanderbos4243 its worse in gameplay too, getting shot from all sides and your character getting stuck in a ragdoll unable to take cover or dodge the bullets is annoying

@@sanderbos4243 i agree with that, and sometimes it is fun to make those matrix flips in slow motion, but it just isnt viable on highier difficulties

@@sanderbos4243 Have you ever beaten the game on hard mode?? I always get stuck on the last level cause those flying robots with plasma rifles one shot you on hard mode.
@@Darth_Malgus4627 Yes. The game isn't much more difficult on hard than it is on medium in my opinion, but the trick to killing those is to go for headshots and walk back immediately as seen in this speedrun.

Good speedrun! But you could have done it faster if it wasn't for level 8 and 9.
Thank you! Yeah definitely, you can see that the "Sum of Best Segments" counter says that the lowest possible time was 6:39 at the time, which is a whopping 1:48 faster!
This 8:27 record alone however was hard for me to beat due to the current unreliable speedrun strategies, so that theoretical best probably isn't going to be reached anytime soon.
I spent a few days on finding speedrun shortcuts and I haven't found a new one in a long while. The best way to get that time closer to the theoretical limit is by getting other people to join me in doing runs, and by finding as many 100% reliable grenade boost setups with the mouse as possible.
