Two hot takes: 1) Loam Wolf should only review VPP bikes with a coil. 2) I think most trails are suited to bikes with a 1250 to 1260 wheelbase, regardless of rider size. I think its going to become more popular for experienced riders to downsize on these enduro bikes to get the desired ride feel but also maintain agility.
Love the bubbles in the vid lol good review 👍 but I do have a question on two different bikes 2024 Rocky Mountain Slayer or Intense Tracer 29 which would you pick ?
Biker's Edge review said it is a step above the Megatower on the downhill, but maybe doesn't climb quite as efficiently. BE made it obvious that the new Altitude is not an efficient pedaller, but is very active, so will hold traction up tech climbs.
The "size specific chainstays" were mentioned so often, bit there are only 2 different lengths (440 and 450 mm), and the difference is only 10 mm. Not very accurate, isn't it?
So I'm guessing certain David Weagle patents expiring last year let them use this suspension again. Interested to compare it to my 2023 Altitude. I've actually found mine to ride quite plush but still extremely controlled, not stiff at all. it's definitely longer and slacker than mine, though not to a crazy level. One of the reasons why I got the Altitude was it is an absolute weapon when pointed downhill without the gigantic reach or barge like wheelbase of other enduro bikes, it's a great bike for "enduro bike as your only bike". I also see they stuck with their trend of very high stack height, which is great.
This is their version of VPP, not DW-link, but I think you are right that we'll see other manufacturers creating their version of DW in the coming couple of years.
Hey what's up. This is a sweet bike for sure. I really really like the gloves. BUT, I have three pair and one of the three has torn/split at the seams at the palm/thumb area. OR has a great warranty department but feel it worth mentioning. As much as I love them, we're waiting to hear back in if we got an early sample or this is an issue. Worth noting, i like to wear gloves that rea really tight, so, that extra strain could be causing some premature wear. Thanks Drew
We found out that it is a warranty issue with Fox. It is a bummer for a new bike for sure, but we were told to contact the dealer or Fox directly and get a new post under warranty.
Yes it should. Our bike was an early sample that unfortunately had a 175 instead of a 200mm post. Size large should fit the 200mm for most all riders no problem according to Rocky.
Thanks very much! Honestly, we can't give the most definitive answer just yet as the primary testers for each bike haven't spent equal amounts of time on each bike... Surprisingly, in some areas the bikes do share some very similar feelings and traits. We look forward to putting more miles on this bike with more riders to answer that better in the future.
Well if you want to race DH, get a DH bike. Provided that your terrain and courses warrant that. If you want to race enduro as well, then you're pretty much forced to pick one bike that will do both, that means an Enduro bike since you can't really pedal a DH bike! haha. Good luck and enjoy the season!
Optimally, you would get both, but if you're looking to race both and can only afford one bike get an enduro bike. If you have a big discount on RM and Specialized I would still take the Altitude over the Enduro. Maybe last years Altitude since you can get them at huge discounts (I got a 2023 Altitude C70 for $5200 last year, that was a nearly $8000 bike at MSRP).
Except for a completely different riding position, the Altitude is high stack, less crazy reach, more like a DH bike where the Spec Enduro is one of the lowest stacks in the class and a fairly long though not insane reach.
Interesting that they're including it now. My 2023 Altitude didn't come with it, but I had cushcore pro on my old bike so had it moved over when I bought the Altitude.
It’s crazy how these bikes are copying eachother. Lol The only thing I don’t like about Rocky Mountain is that they don’t offer a crash replacement. Replacements are at full cost. That’s what I was told by rocky
we have moved away from making bikes look like a trek to now make bikes look like santa cruz?
Won't look like a santa cruz until they charge 5k+ and have the audacity throw an SX/NX drivetrain on
Nope.
Yeah since Trek started copying all of GTs designs people had to rip off Santa Cruz
Wasn’t this the specialized enduro design lol
@@shaunschneeberger6301 this is literally vpp
I really like the low center shock and improved penalty box. Looks like a bike ready to race.

Looks like a Santa Cruz (not a bad thing), Virtual Pivot like a Santa Cruz (again not a bad thing), how does it compare to a Nomad/Megatower?
More downhilly

Does the small stay with 440mm?
Small has 430 stays, but can only be run in a dual 27.5 config.
@@TheLoamWolf yes, correct, I missed that.

What did u do to get rid of the seat post noise mine is doing the same thing
gonna buy the exact model as you got there but I also saw you repping the new OR riding gloves, how are they so far?

@@TheLoamWolf got the gloves and I love them so far, thanks! still working on finding the altitude...
Sweet bike and thanks for the review. Where are you riding in the video?
Thanks. We’re in Bend Oregon

Horse Ridge.

since it's raw carbon / gloss black do you think matte or gloss ride wrap would work better?
Probably have to go with gloss. This thing is too pretty to matte out.
I just took delivery of mine and I’m really annoyed with that rattle! Have you come up with a solution to the issue? Are you sure it’s the seat post?
We found out that it is a warranty issue with Fox. It is a bummer for a new bike for sure, but we were told to contact the dealer or Fox directly and get a new post under warranty.
Any updates here? Mine still rattles after swapping posts. Did the replacement fix your issue?
4199$ for a carbon frame is just insanity smh 🤦♂️ other than that it’s a nice bike

Yes it should. Our bike was an early sample that unfortunately had a 175 instead of a 200mm post. Size large should fit the 200mm for most all riders no problem according to Rocky.

290mm max insertion in a 440mm seat tube on the Large

I currently have an previous gen orbea Occam, I want to race dh and enduro competitively in collage. Should I get this or a dh bike?
(I get a discount on Rocky Mountain and specialized bikes, I have a little more emphasis on my dh racing)

You forgot to mention which size were you running on this test, and the average height of your testers. 🤔

Cushcore Trail on this one.

the powerplay version will be a killer!
This general design screams Santa Cruz copy cat.

I agree 100%
Nah not until they start deciding to rob people by throwing sx/nx drivetrains on while also charging 5k+. Then it'll be a santa cruz clone
