No one hates wrestling more than wrestling fans.
There is so much wrestling to watch. WWE, AEW, TNA, NJPW, Stardom, Progress, TJPW, and countless independent promotions that it makes zero sense to tell someone they are wrong for not watching the same promotion as someone else. Watch what you want and don't say someone is wrong about what they watch.

Since then it’s gone in a direction that isn’t for me but lots of people still enjoy it and that’s great. From a business standpoint I think it’s undeniable that AEW hasn’t been set up in a healthy way which worries me slightly (If Tony’s money should for some unknown reason disappear that’s a lot of people, on an awful lot of money out of a job.). I’ll never understand fans who are loyal to one promotion, WWE certainly didn’t deserve any loyalty between 2014-2021 and for me AEW doesn’t right now; in some ways it’s like playing Universe Mode on 2k24, the matches are great, the roster is unbelievably stacked but the story just isn’t there and probably a few to many championships considering how long they’ve been in business.

I think the biggest issue with wrestling discourse right now is how people handle their assumptions.
An angle doesn’t go how people were expecting, and we don’t know where it’s ultimately going. And it splits people.
There are those who will think “this isn’t what I was expecting, so let’s see how it plays out and if I ultimately don’t like it I’ll say, but it might be great. Wrestling is a long term storytelling format after all.”
And then others will look at that same angle, base their feelings on a bunch of assumptions about what the angle might mean going forward, and decided they don’t like it based on those assumptions.
Why would you choose to assume the worst and make yourself angry rather than just be patient and see how it plays out?

I was a lapsed wrestling fan after life got really busy for me in the 2018-19 timeframe. I kept up with news for a while before I just stopped watching altogether. When I started watching again at the Royal Rumble this year and starting to watch AEW for the first time a little later in the year, you know what I realized?
Wrestling is so damn good now.
You have so many styles on TV that you can watch and so many good storylines and so many flavors of wrestling that are readily available and enjoyable that it can take up literally every week day(except Thursday I guess). And all of it is better, stronger, healthier, more stable, and more profitable than wrestling was a decade ago. I don't think wrestling has ever been this good, and it's better on both sides. Being mad at this is like being mad at someone else for liking another flavor of ice cream. We've all got our ice cream so lets enjoy it before it melts.

In my opinion most people that complain about a certain wrestling product aren't really true wrestling fans because if you were a true wrestling fan you would want every company to thrive and have Banger after Banger of a show every week but as always that's just my opinion

Abso-fucking-lutely! I do find it rather interesting that someone will talk shit and be surprised when shit is talked back to them. I can enjoy WWE weekly but sometimes when AEW have good segments like Mariah May heel turn recently, I will watch it as well.

AEW is very experimental and take way more creative risks even if they fail they push it to the limit, WWE play it way too safe and 3 or 5 times a year they break the status quo and try something new by listening to the fans, either way each company brings something new to the table. I enjoyed Impact wrestling before AEW broke the wrestling Internet and AEW imo is awesome even when they have goofy segments 😂😂😂

6:39 had I stuck with training and made it to one performance in professional wrestling, this is what I would love to do with Simon. A breakdown of what we’re seeing, what we like, what needs improvement. Because all I want is for wrestling all around to be better. I want everyone from the most local indie all the way up to the dream WWE vs AEW vs NJPW super show to all get bookings & have 1 fan decide they are their new favorite wrestler. I don’t want to see anyone get hurt, I want to see everyone thrive.

That idea about you need to be harsh and always focus on the bad in order to improve things is so mistaken. If you go to the best school in the world and take a class about Shakespeare or Mozart or whatever, you're not going to hear about all the stuff Shakespeare did wrong, or how Mozart could've used even better notes. If you take a science class, it's not about pointing out all the dumb ways people have failed at science. A computer programming class is not about pointing out all the flaws in bad code. No, they're about what creative people did well, what we can learn from it, how it's been influential, etc. A science class or a programming class teaches you how to do those things correctly. When wrestlers watch tape, they're not watching match after match of guys who suck so they can avoid making their mistakes. If they did, all they'd ever learn is what not to do, and they'd only have a handful of moves that rarely go wrong, and that would be boring. They watch tape looking for good things they can imitate or aspire to, and how to recover well from a mistake, how to make the best out of a cold crowd or a bad angle, how to play down weaknesses and play up strengths. Anyway, keep doing what you're doing, Simon. I love Ups & Downs.

I've been watching since I was a little kid and would kill to have both WWF and WCW available. Unfortunately only WWF was available for me and that was all I watched. People these days can't understand what it's like to have everything so readily available, yet they participate in all this 'better than you' bullshit like they're trying to be MJF. Now I have everything accessible and this is basically the best time to be alive as a wrestling fan but of course all these miserable assholes just aren't happy. The real culprits I believe are the small time pages on Facebook that keep posting rage bait articles to rile up the fanboys and get people arguing because more comments and views = better stats for them. I'm just avoiding wrestling on FB and X altogether.

the only thing im tired of is people that refuse to accept the reality of what is wrong in each company. there are faults in both but one side never admits it while the other openly complains about it. both of those reactions are wrong. and stop trying to find the positives in everything because it makes everything worse.

  • @Hellwolf36

I am too. The IWC and the stans, primarily from AEW were the main reason that made me quit AEW and I ended up unsubbing from all the dirt sheets like WhatCulture and Wrestlelamia. I get both companies have positives and negatives, but you have to accept both the good and the bad, while also holding your side accountable for the bad (eg. Tony Clown's rotten booking or WWE's storylines outside of the main roster).
As for the Bayley segment, I am no fan of Nia Snax. Her promos are pretty bad, her ability in the ring is really bad and she is extremely reckless but gets protections because she is Aono'i. I think the point here is that Tiffy is going to exploit and stab both women in the back and walk off with the belt. If you like her, I won't stop you.
Simon Miller was the only guy amongst the IWC/dirt sheets I remotely like.

I don’t even get why we compare them, they’re just so different. WWE is a huge entertainment corporation with millions of fans the world over and AEW is a small B tier television show and a touring product that struggles to make money. It’s just Indy wrestling on tv pretty much. Which honestly is great if you like that sort of thing but the WWE comparisons are silly, there are no stars in AEW. It’s a niche thing for geeks.
