The dude shouting “No!” as Seth pulls back the chair to swing it is perfect. It’s dead quiet, the crowd sees what’s happening and are too stunned to react except for that guy. Beautiful. And then Dean sees Roman collapse and looks to see Seth holding the chair and he cannot compute what’s going on before Seth attacks him, too. Just great. And as much as I hated at the time, it was the perfect moment to do it because they just had a clean sweep beating Evolution the night before. You know Triple H isn’t going to let that go. Might as well be the first one to sell out.
And I assume that Hogan dropping the leg on Macho and joining the Outsiders to form the NWO isn’t on this list because maybe WCW didn’t air in England then? Because that’s probably the greatest of all time in terms of shock and the impact it had on the wrestling business.

It changed the industry. It’s why I started watching wrestling. I kept hearing my friends and classmates talking about Hulk Hogan being a bad guy and leading this group called the New World Order. I had to check it out. Hulk Hogan was such a huge star that even a kid like me knew who he was even though I had never watched wrestling in my life at that point. Hearing Hulk Hogan was a bad guy was shocking even to me.
Hogan turning heel was like wrestling's 9/11 at the time.

Ciampa turning on Gargano in NXT is top 5 to me. Led to an amzing series of matches and was shocking.
Shawn on Marty was my fav, I couldn’t believe it saw it in real time. I knew Shawn was turning but like that, damn. Watching attending wrestling events since 78’
Stephanie turning on her dad and Test for HHH the first time was shocking to me as a teen. Completely agreed with blaming Vince but felt so bad for Test.
Roman & Seth heel turn changed the industry.

My wife gasped and grabbed my arm when Kevin clotheslined Sami at the end of Takeover, something to be said for wrestlers who can still get that reaction out of people who have been watching since the ‘80s

HBK has one of the best heel turn ever! Then with Bobby the Brain on commentary saying I knew he was gonna to do that when Marty went flying to the barbershop window! Lol I still can watch it because it was awesome! Its was serious but hilarious all in one!
Great list! Been a wrestling fan for over 30 years and probably the 2 most "didn't see that coming" heel turns were Hogan joining NWO. Such a hard pill to swallow at the time and seeing the fans throw trash in the ring (as disrespectful as that was btw) I guess they too had a hard time with it. Lol. If they ever do this with Cody which I think fans do want to see, they'll need to make it as impactful as the Hogan turn since Cody is arguably one of the biggest babyfaces ever so if they do end up doing this theyd better NOT screw it up! Next, Roman turning heel after his long babyface run wasn't in itself super shocking. But the camera paning towards Paul Heyman left me pretty shocked! Did NOT see that coming at all! Fans always wanted Roman as a heel, but pairing him with Paul was definitely the duo we didn't know we needed.
Wrong...That coward, Marty Jeanetty jumped through the window to get away from Shawn.
So great when Jacey Jane and Gigi Dollin recreated it in NXT.
HBK turning on Marty was the biggest one for me. The Rockers were so popular. You felt like they were on the brink of becoming tag team champions. When he super kicked him, it was heart-breaking. I watched this one as a kid when kay-fabe was very much alive.
Andre turning on Hogan is another one for this list.
The Trish & Lita heel turns were stunning
When I was a kid I used to watch Mick McManus on my grandfather's lap. Not a heel turn as such, but my grandfather taught me that bad guys are better. I'm 59 now and my wife laughs at me for being a flat out fan of the bad guys!
Unfortunately, I actually totally understand Vince when he said he doesn’t like Christian’s face 😅 I’ve ALWAYS thought that haha but I’m not as shitty as Vince and I can look past it and appreciate how awesome he is as a human and wrestler
Paul Orndorff turning on Hogsn is my favourite heal turn of all time.

Seth Rollins is the only heel turn that ever "got me" I was 10 years old when I discovered wrestling, I knew it was a work, every heel turn I ever saw either excited me or pissed me off in the wrong way, i.e. excited for KO turning on Sami, pissed off about lame writing when Matt turned on Jeff, etc.
Seth Rollins worked me, I dropped my phone while my dad lost his mind cause he knew the Shield were my boys and I sat there just shocked still.
To this day if me and my brother are in a team game with randos who are being jerks I can say "there's all ways a plan b" and we will go on a team kill spree, one guy even got the reference and had time to beg for his life.
It's weird how Ambrose went from one of the best heel turn moments in a vacuum to being one of the worst heel runs of all time.
I consider myself to be someone who doesn’t show a lot of emotion so it takes a lot to get a pop out of me from wrestling. But, the Jey Uso double-cross and super kick to Sami was a great turn. Even if it was kind of obvious, the timing, Sami’s selling and the crowd reaction was incredible.
I really liked Ahmed Johnson when I was a kid, and him turning heel broke my effin heart.
The first heel turn I experienced live was Batista.

Oh man when Seth turned on Roman reigns and Dean Ambrose that time I was so mad like they just won the big match against evolution. Why is he turning on them? They just won. I didn’t understand it. I mean I wasn’t even that young when this happened and I knew it was fake, but I still was so.
Two that stick out to me. Andre turning on hogan in ‘87 and hogan joining the nWo in ‘96
Andre's heel turn that lead to WM3 followed by Hogan's heel turn at '96 Bash.
Kane in 2003 is my fav one. Shame that it didnt get him a world title and have it on the line vs undertaker at wm20

I think DIY deserves an honourable mention at least, we all thought it was just a oh well they'll try again as the credits showed and then Ciampa just beat the shit out of Gargano. It's just a damn shame the feud was dragged due to pandemic and injuries.

Let me just say this. To think about the years of people saying Cena turn heel he needs it.. despite that despite Cena sucks chants people has always loved and respected him. The fact his last couple of short runs even the old who yelled Cena sucks now pops massively for the guy.

Ahem - a hairdresser who worked with garden shears instead of, you know, scissors. He gets hate for hitching a ride to Hogan's star but...don't wrestlers do that all the time? The Usos or Solo and Our Tribal Chief, countless wrestlers as the nWo, hell even Randy in Evolution. Brutus had a decent career and got a very silly gimmick over on its own bizarre merits - as a kid, I didn't really think of.him as Hogan's stooge. He didn't have a Hall of Fame career but, guess what?, wrestling is nurtured, loved, appreciated, promoted and kept going by people who aren't in, maybe won't ever be in, the HoF - or who are moderately over guys with good physiques who have a Zelig like ability to show up at the right time and regardless of abilities make it into the HoF anyway.
