Hi Alysha, I am not sure why they always include the cable needles in the crochet kits, but both the curved and straight ones are for making cables with knitting. They hold the stitches in front or back as you skip them and allow you to pick them up again to knit them to make a twist in your knitting. Thanks for this review and suggestion. The kit looks great and is definitely afordable.🥰🤗
I agree, why put knitting tools in a kit where there is no knitting needle at all. I have also seen many kits like these, especially coming from China. even closed stitch markers that no crocheter might even use.
I agree. The other items I often see are closed rings and knitting needle tip protectors. I don't know if they could be used on small hooks (like 2 mm and below) or would they just fall off?
@@oakstrong1 Often times crocheters are left baffled about what they are and how to use them. I often say you can use them when you decide to learn how to knit.
The "knitting needles" are used in knitting and crocheting cables. They are to hold the "crossover loops" then to transfer the loops onto the main needle. I am a crocheter and use them while Tunisian crocheting cables.
Although I’m definitely not a beginner crocheter, i did receive a similar kit as a Christmas gift last year from my stepdaughter. She knows I love crocheting & knitting but doesn’t know anything about the craft. She purchased the kit because it was cute, convenient and affordable. I found those little yarn balls are super handy when you just need a bit of yarn to make a small appliqué to attach to your crochet items.
Alisha, I so appreciate your informative channel. I love that you have different and intelligent content. I appreciate your help with products such as this but also the history videos you've done. And especially how you've highlighted the commercial crochet items. It matters. I also love your lives showing so many different patterns. I've gotten many gift ideas from those. You do have content that can make a difference in the world by informing experienced crochet artists and beginners.
This was the sweetest thing anybody's ever written me ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ your comment means a lot to me. thank you so much for taking the time to watch my videos.
@@LittlejohnsYarn Truth ma'am. I love a handful of crochet channels and have watched many. But your information is beautiful. And all your content is fun. I don't always have time to jump right on and miss most livestreams in live format. But your caring about more than tutorials and yarn reviews stands out. It seems every year I want to give a crochet starter kit to some child. This one I will probably order for a granddaughter. I will replace the nippers with blunt child's scissors (which I carry in my traveling bag). I will probably remove the knitting accessories and replace with candy. My mother-in-law knits and she will know what to do with those. I haven't a clue.
Hi Alysha right now I am working on my cottage core mosaic blanket and granny squares blanket and single crochet blanket and I love your channel and your videos and if you keep making videos I will keep watching them and what is your favorite crochet project to work on right now and favorite types of yarn to used when crocheting and keep up the great work on your RUclips channel and keep up the great work on your crochet projects
Thank you so much! A mosaic pattern is on my bucket list. They are soooo beautiful!!! My favorite yarn is Mighty Stitch yarn from Crochet.com. I love the luster. My favorite items to make are hats & slippers. Something quick & easy.
I guess we expect everyone would know a cable stitch needle. I love the size of that case because its small enough to carry to appointments as you wait in the waiting room. It looks like it will stand up more than a week. Love your energy.
Those knitting needles are for knitting cables and hold the stitches to the front or back of your work until you're ready to knit them. You get straight cable, curved cable, and hooked (or J-hook) cable needles. The curved cable needles are the ones that have a little divot in the middle, and the hooked/J-hooks are ones that look like letter Js or Us. It's mostly a matter of preference as to which you'll use, or sometimes you'll get a set with multiple sizes and you just use whichever cable needle is closest in mm size to your knitting needles. :) I've seen other folks (not here, on other videos) 'correct' people who say you get straight cable needles by calling them DPNs. They look like DPNs and could probably be used as DPNs - and you can certainly use DPNs as cable needles - but you can actually buy straight cable needles in packs where each needle is a different size and therefore not intended for use as DPNs. It's definitely a case of just marketing differences, but there are plenty of knitters out there who have only ever used DPNs for cables, and plenty of knitters who have only ever used DPNs for socks/circular knitting. Hope that helps!
Those knitting cable needles are the 2 choices. Most people have a preference but you can buy either style. My choice is the straighter one since the hook catches on your other stitches (in my opinion).
btw, if your crochet hook is too short, you can buy rubber extenders that you can put your hook in and it will make the hook longer and cushion your palm
I would definitely run out of Band-Aids using those scissors lol. I have some like them with covers (thank God). They remind me of miniature paper cutters the teachers use to cut paper with when I was in school lol. My granddaughter is talking about getting into crochet. If she keeps talkn about it for longer than five minutes, this would be perfect. Or gives you an idea on how to create a starter kit for a newbie. Tyfs God bless you
Thanks, for your helpful description/opinion/helpful hints on the crochet hooks and yarns. I brought a package of crochet/knit (love to crochet but hate to knit) gadgets. In the package is a aluminum crochet hook in one end with a needle with eye on the other end. It's about 3" long. What is it for and what do I use it. Thank you from a subscriber and fan!
I shorter hooks are not so much of a problem for pencil grip but I still prefer longer ones, especially ones with a long neck: I find increasing amout of Tunisian crochet project tutorials that are small enough to do with a standard hook.
I've never seen the hooked looking ones before! I've seen the straight shorter one which is used for cables. I'm going to assume the curved hook ones are for when you need to store the live stitches you're not working on. (ex like working on legs on a stuffie).
I prefer the hooked shaped cable needles, honestly. I find the other ones catch on my yarn more with the ridges so I have to fight with them more. The curve holds the stitches perfectly without having to fight to get them off :)
Can someone explain to me the difference between acrylic and cotton yarn? Are they used depending on the project? Is one more preferred over the other? Sorry I don’t remember much as it’s been over 20 years lol but I’m looking to get into amigurumi. Thanks 🙏🏾
To my opinion acrylic is more of a stiffer material then cotton and acrylic is much more cheaper material but my advice try to buy it personally so you can get a feel of the material so you can get an idea for your project and the quality of it ,stiffer material tend to hold their shape unlike softer material but be careful they tend cause more friction on your hand hope it helps
As others have said, the knitting tools are for knitting cables. Why add them to the kit? To make the "tool count" higher. Also those aluminum "pin" like things have something to do with cabling too. The fabric that the bag is made from is nylon Rip-Stop.
I think I once saw my mum using those needles an mum was knitting a baby blanket and anything that mum was good at with her hands as for me my mummy’s daughter is into crocheting
Those things are cable needles. I have no clue why crochet kits include them. 😂 Maybe they know that crochet can be cabled, but not that crochet cables don't need them?
Cable needles and Cable hook are used to take stitches off the left needle and hold them while you work a few more stitches off the left needle, then you go back to the stitches you put on the cable needle or hook....this is how knitting creates cable patterns....most common are those puffy looking chains
Thank you for sharing! I would really love for someone to send items of this kit off for testing. Metal and plastic items from China (like these) often contain harmful amounts of substances like cadmium or formaldehyde, to name some. I would love to know how this kit measures up. Because even though it might be cheap and okay quality, if it is potentially harmful to my health I am staying away.
Ok so im a teen, and i always get exactly 27 euros for my birthday, not more, not less. And so i see this, i get soo excited and then fuk shipping is damn 78 euros...thank you so much for giving me hopes up now you just wasted my damn time

I have some nippers like that. I stuck the pointy part in a wine cork to make it safer.
Love how you do your reviews on your items like the bag bedwetting bag oh my goodness I just giggled and giggled hope you have a happy holiday 🤣🤣
lol. Thank you. It was such a funny material.
Thank you Alysha

Really?!?! I've never seen those before. I have to check that out. Thank you Fav❤️
Eu sou fanática por crochê
This is not a bad kit for a beginner. Those nippers are a little scary - I agree with you.]
Thanks for the review. ❤

Great case for a beginner. I wish i had known these existed when i started. I knit more than crochet so i know cable needles.
Thanks for sharing I don’t knit so no idea what they’re for
Have a great day

Sharp pointy tools can be made safe with a wine cork. Synthetic works best, because the plastic flexes & grips the tool better.
I shorter hooks are not so much of a problem for pencil grip but I still prefer longer ones, especially ones with a long neck: I find increasing amout of Tunisian crochet project tutorials that are small enough to do with a standard hook.

It's really appreciate and is a good deal ❤️

They are types of stitch holders for when doing cables or other fancy type stithes
Those cables are also used in Tunisian crochet!!!

Cable needles for making that raises pretty cable knit
the ones with green pink and blue are for the knitting model xD
I would add a con for adding the cable needles which only knitters use.
