The new engine may work, but I don’t understand why they canned the V8. Ford has been offering two turbo V6’s and the 5.0 V8’s for quite a few years, so you have a good choice. Toyota has been having problems with their turbo V6’s and never should have quit offering the V8. I just don’t see how offering a limited engine choice is a good thing.
what an ignorant comment. For 3 consecutive years Ram sales declined long before the Hemi was discontinued. Ram just reset exactly where it belongs and where it historically has been.
We only have three new ones left at our CDJR dealership (a B5 Blue Scat Pack, a Sublime Green Jailbreak, and a White Knuckle Demon 170) and we’re one of the biggest dealers in the Phoenix area. We also have a “used” Pitch Black Redeye that has only 1,700 miles on it.
If I had to choose, I'd find a RAM truck with the 6.4-L HEMI. Tows 17,730 pounds. If I ever bought a truck to do work with, I'd want maximum towing capacity and wouldn't be so worried about luxury features. I'd buy a USED 6.4-L and take the gas mileage hit. If the etorque and Hurricane get equal gas mileage, that actually looks bad for the Hurricane. The Hurricane in the Grand Wagoneer is only 2 MPG better than the 6.4-L. More power requires more boost, requires more fuel, requires more air...
I'm not sure if this is still valid with current turbos But wasn't turbos in the 80s and 90s that you had to let the engine idle one or two minutes before shutting the engine off to prevent turbo failure?
This is where Ford and GM are going to beat Stellantis now !! Because in there full size pick-up trucks you still, have the option of a V8 engine !! So just a very bad decisions for Stellantis to cut the Hemi V8 engines off !!🤢🤢👎👎
They already are. GM's earnings were up over 10 percent. Ford earnings up 3 percent. Stellantis earnings just reported 27 percent plunge. They are going out of business lol.
@@fel1x335 Mary Barra axed it because of low sales. They still have the corvette and they will never kill that. Plus Mary builds EV along same assembly as ICE so they can control production levels to meet high or low demand. Love or hate she knows how to maximize ROI for stock holders. Sports cars don't always sell well. The Nissan Z sells like crap. But that failed partly because of greedy dealers marking them up. Even the Maxda MX5 which is extremely well made with very high quality only sells 10K/units year. In the end stock holders don't care what you like. Only that Mary delivers on investment. The idea of having an oil dipstick sensor is a cool idea. However if the oil dipstick sensor goes bad? How hard is it to fix. And I think it's not a smart idea to get rid of the physical oil stick it's always good to see the condition of the oil not just the level. Why can't they done both
@ex.spaceshuttle.worker If it is similar to the DEF fluid tank sensor you have to go to a dealer and it will brick the truck if not fixed in I think 200 miles. I worked at a dealership and a guy had that problem with his new Ram and he had to trade it in because we couldn't get a tank in and he was on a job where he relied on it and it was counting down miles to brick.
Personally, I am not opposed to a good hard running inline six, I owned several 225 slant 6 engines that were completely bullet proof, as well as a couple of Cummins diesels that were also practically bullet proof. If this engine is reliable and making that kind of power I'm good. However, not at that price point, that is plumb crazy!! I'd say it is about $20,000.00 over priced...
My XJ with the 4.0l Inline 6 has over 430,000 miles and runs great with just simple maintenance. Had numerous Darts with 170-225 Slants Sixs they were snails but you cannot deny the longevity of slant 6 or any inline 6 for that matter they are inherently smoother running engines.
The dip stick is a simple reason we want it. Cause we can have both lol. It’s no need to remove that. If the sensor break we still have a manual option to check. So we don’t have to be a rush to fix it or period.
We had a 77 Dodge pickup on the farm. My father did not know anything about engines. It had a 318 2 barrel. After using it for towing a horse trailer with 3 horses in it he concluded, "This truck will not pull the hat off your head " This is my opinion of a hurricane engine, you are going to have to rev it high to get the job done and the durability will be suspect. I would never buy any car or truck with a hurricane engine
RAM is not a lifestyle vehicle. The Hurricane would be fine in a car and perhaps the Durango. But if they intend to use it for RAM, revisions ars needed to suit the duties of a proper truck. And the fact that Stellantis didn't bring along a pickup like a Dakota. The Hurricane would be suitable for that size of a truck. Not the RAM 1500.
I will pass and keep my Hemi for life. The fact they overpriced them is a major not going to happen. They will not convince people that a six is better. There was a reason they went away from the straight six forty years ago. Then let’s add the fact that turbo gas motors are not longevity products. History has proven that.
I didn't want an Etorque, so i bought a 3/4 ton with a 6.4. i will say, what im seeing is the new in line motor may very well be a good thing. At least be competitive with the Ecoboost. At this point the Ecoboost runs away from the hemi. Even the 2.7 Ecoboost. The biggest issue woth any turbocharged engine is maintenance. Long term ownership will cost you.
A dipstick is more important than just checking fluid level. It can be used for checking the oil quality as well. With the new hurricane there is no way to check your oil for sludge coolant or metal flakes. The quality of your oil will tell you a lot about the health of the engine.
So true. Back in the 80s I had a 70 GTO 400 was my daily driver and one day when I was checking the oil dipstick it looked milky which I said oh oh. Which turned out to be a blown head gasket with water going into the oil. I would never have known that if I didn't check the dipstick. Because the engine wasn't running rough or anything. having an electronic oil dipstick is cool but they should have kept the physical dipstick and had both
Respectfully, RacerX , as a born French . It's MOPAR (Both N/A and supercharged HEMI V8) , or NoCar Yes , I'm talking with my heart , and not with my brain because , Japaneses are more reliable , and for less gasoline , they do the job Sorry for my approximative phrases in english, by the way
❤DODGE RAM, but very sad there is no V8 offering. I am happy I still have my two 2001 RAM trucks with the 318ci V8 Magnum. Stellantis is completely at fault for this direction the brands have gone! 😢
As a Mopar lover and a Hemi enthusiast, It's difficult, but I have to say that I'm quite excited to try the new Hurricane engined cars and trucks. I love the Hemis but I love straight sixes. I'm really happy with Dodge going that route. an R6 is soo much better than a V6 ever can be. However. The price tags on these cars and trucks is a concern. How do all the manufacturers think that people will be able to buy all these 100 grand cars? It's crazy. Salaries haven't gone up that much compared to a few years ago. And the cost of living has sky rocketed. So we need CHEEPER cars and trucks. Not more expensive stuff...
Boosted engines naturally have more load put on bottom end. How long they will last no one knows. You could end up with a engine needing a rebuild at 100 to 150,000 miles. If a turbo fails that wont be a cheap fix after the warranty is over. I doubt that the turbo 6 will last as long as a 5.7 Hemi when used for actual work like towing and hauling heavy loads. Maybe inline 6 used in a lighter car would have a chance of lasting longer.
There is something to be said for NA engines.. although I will say that the new hurricane will not have the same lifter issue as the NA hemis. Every application seems to have it's issues unfortunately
Stellantis biggest mistake was not continuing to offer a v8 option along with the hurricane and electrified options Both Ford and GM offer turbo charged 4 and 6 cylinder engines and v8s in half ton trucks plus electrified powertrains. Gm still offers a turbo diesel in a half ton. Stellantis should give us options like the competition does. That being said i did drive a wagoneer with a hurricane and its fucking dope.the power is impressive...more than the 6.4 in the wagoneer
I am so a v8 guy. The sound a feel is so different. I have a 2017 and have big plans for it. For 70, 80k for a new truck. I will just biuld mine up to what i want.
I remember when the top trim Limited was 60k. Anyone that would pay 90k for this truck with an unproven engine is in need of serious psychological evaluation.
GMC still has the 5.3L V8.. $46k is the cheapest config I could find with it but if you can afford the mid $50's the Elevation trim gets you one serious V8 truck. Just sayin'
Whether the new Charger has a v8 or i6 doesn't matter as much as there being no manual transmission option. Who cares what's powering it if you're driving a slushbox auto either way?
The base one at 70k can be yours for the low payment of 1200 bucks a month for 72 months . Who would be stupid enough to pay that for a piece of junk ?
In 2003 my parents bought a Ram 1500 because at the time it was the most powerful and capable truck with many engine options. I showed them this video and all that they had to say is that they are disappointed where Ram has gone.
Oil sensors can break. I’ve never had a broken dipstick. Keep it simple is my opinion. I guess Joe Sixpack won’t be able to buy any Chrysler six pack. $90k is too much to be guinea pig for Chrysler.
When you buy a $75-$90k truck because of the sound of a hemi you need to see a shrink. There is lots of evidence that turbos will increase your maintenance cost sooner or later.
Yes, the Hurricane is quick as hell but I do not drive like an idiot on the streets... I like quick, powerful vehicles but want a V8 RAM,I don't want a 6 cyl...I like to cruise in traffic or back roads and listen to my V8 HEMI with nice performance exhaust! The sound of a rumbling V8 relaxes me and makes me in a good mood,I dont need to be the quickest off the line(if I did I would buy a Tesla Plaid). I have a stock appearing 1968 Dodge Charger R/T with a 440 Magnum with 628hp and it runs low 11's in street trim that's a 235 rear tire and 3.23 axle ratio..It is a 10 second ride with a weekend of minor tweaks. Engine is de tuned for the street,my buddy ran low 10's in the same engine(a few minor differences)...I also own a 2016 Hellcat Challenger and owned a 5.7 Hemi Challenger as a daily for several years, was extremely happy with that too..Like I said I dont need to be the fastest/quickest!
FUN FACT: 3.0L Power Stroke a diesel engine that can tow up to 12,100 pounds when properly equipped. It has 440 lb-ft of torque at 1750 rpm. EPA-estimated 22 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and 25 mpg combined
My 2018 3.5 Eco-Boost F150 has 375HP. They have had their issues as will the Hurricane, but I have not had any issues that weren't fully covered under warranty. It still runs like new. I paid 38K for my base 4x4 Supercrew model back in 2018. I don't think I want to pay almost 2.5x for the Ram even though it has all the goodies. I would give the Hurricane engine a chance, but it would have to be a lot cheaper than 90K. You are right on the choking point being the price!
I own a 15 Ram Hemi, and last Friday for shits and giggles i test drove a 25 Hurricane standard, not HO. I must say it was a beautiful truck and the Hurricane was a smooth engine. Everything was nice except the price tag. 😂😂
Now racerX about 2 years ago you mentioned the former V8 magnum was cleaner than the HEMI. So common sense says bring back a improved magnum. Move the intake valve have a set of 210-220cc and 58-60 combustion chamber heads 9.3 deck height. Keep the stroker 318 theme 3.910x 3.58 or have 2 engines 3.910x3.79. Have a variable intake manifold for this new magnum and vvt. I dig my push rod engines
Hey Racer X i don't care how much Dodge is paying you to promote or try to convince customers to buy the New products they're pushing. Engines like the 6.4 l hemi and the super charge 6.2 l Hellcat are better than the new hurricane engine. That's just my opinion.
@joel6513 Thanks for the advice. I really do love the SS it's an awesome car the LT1 engine Definitely packs a punch and I love the transmission mine is a 6 speed manual.
Us 5.7 owners don't get the 5.7 for only performance 1st is reliability second is maintenance and how simple and easy the 5.7 is to work on without having to take it to a shop and that's the reason nobody wants a sensor witch is just another unnecessary sensor to go bad and drive up the price of maintenance already the hurricane is going to be less reliable and more expensive to maintenance because of the turbos
You can say all you want about that damn in-line 6 but we all saw the footage from direct connection. That engine barely produced a burnout, it sounds like shit, and it’s not nearly as fun. You know it, and I know it.
Excellent objective and sincere description as you are always used to doing. Personally I bought a Ram in 2019 and a helcat in 2024 and as long as they work I absolutely don't intend to change them. We need to feel our passion burning every time we accelerate with our Hemi engines. Everything else that wants to be proposed to us in the name of who knows what useful change we don't like and the market is proving us right. Most of the choices made are wrong, people don't buy them and factories close. Greetings from Italy and thank you for all your commitment and objectivity
I paid $1500 for my used 2001 ram sport 4x4 with 5.9 V8. Just towed my racecar with it 1700 miles round trip. Gonna take awhile to make up $90k in fuel costs😅
Since 2001, I have purchased new, a 5.9 gas burner, 3, 5.7 Hemi trucks and 2 Cummins trucks all 4x4, however I have purchased my last Dodge, Ram or whatever the hell they want to call them. I understand that Hurricane engine might be a fine engine but that’s not the reason, the reason is that these folks think that they are going to dictate to us. Not happening!
No replacement for displacement. Also that I6 is working way harder with all the boost to make up the difference. I just don't see 3.0 litres be able to tow as well with comparable gas mileage to the 5.7.
RacerX those trucks you included a screenshot of START at 70k. They are at least 20k overpriced in my opinion........other manufacturers included. The other issue is that isnt mentioned is that it's a first year release of that engine in the ram. Definitely smart to wait 3 or 4 years to see what issues come up and hopefully get resolved but the prices will probably be higher too
The extra price is partly due to all of those taxes . Concerning your statement about waiting a couple of years , and see how the customers are reacting to their purchase is an old , but still a good advice
@BetterDeadThanRed_Reject1984 True.......and Stellantis like many others are bumping up the prices of the ICE vehicles to fund the EV development and production. Guess they figure the customers will pay one way or another.
Well on the mpg the hemi actually gets better mpg... I've seen two different RUclipsrs do a 80mile and 140 mile circle with the two and hemi hemi came out on top with better MPG.
I drove the hurricane in the wagoneer when it first came out....while I’m not enthusiastic for the changes, that hurricane rips like a mf. I was very shocked driving that compared to the 6.4 in the same car.
I get your point that you're saying that it's a fun truck to drive but at the end of the day it's a truck it's not meant to be fast if you want a fast car get one don't get a truck and expected to be quick. So the comparison for speed for a truck is pointless
Essentially.. I suppose it depends on what you are looking for. Some would argue that the TRX is pointless because of it's towing rating and it's terrible gas mileage; however, people still seem to love it. It's more of a performance truck
RAM sales are off 40 %....IMO 25 % due to price and 15 % due to no V8. After a year or two sales will stabilize as V8 purists move on to other brands. If they want to recover some of those sales they need to de-content and reduce pricing. Jeep is off 20 %....IMO that's mostly about price...not V8 issue.
My Daytona Turbo was a blast to drive back in the day. I was going to drive it into the ground. But at 70K the head gasket failed, had it replaced. Then not much later the turbo was going out so I sold it. If I’m going to spend a lot of money, I want something with a proven track record.
The Hurricane as a passenger vehicle engine is pretty good, but it's overly complex. The Hemi is much simpler and better for towing and working on in a fleet environment and a dipstick is a necessity in that application.
The hemi is 20 years old, with one minor update 15 years ago. We all know it's not a top performer in 2024+. What we're hating, is the "what should have been". They should have given us an all new v8. And secondly, the HO is built much stronger than the SO, they are almost completely different engines. Not giving us the option of the HO in a tradesman or bighorn is a massive middle finger to their customer base. Nobody can afford the "real" turbo, so I'll go get a ford with the 5.0 in a work truck instead. Ram is cutting their own throat and they just don't care.

Stellantis had to pay Tesla $1B per year carbon credits to keep building the hemi.
@@AlterKaker-e2gbecause Dodge(pre Stellantis) never invested any money into modernizing the V8
90k? I paid 30k for my 2018 Sport 5.7 and it’s loaded. Stellantis can pound sand
Replacing the Hemi V8 with the Hurricane 6.. Did Stellantis Kill RAM? YES!
what an ignorant comment. For 3 consecutive years Ram sales declined long before the Hemi was discontinued. Ram just reset exactly where it belongs and where it historically has been.
Looks like they still have 2023 Challengers sitting on the lot…
The Hemi doesn’t have a turbo and that’s all that matters to me. A turbo is just another component that will fail and worry about.
I'm not sure if this is still valid with current turbos But wasn't turbos in the 80s and 90s that you had to let the engine idle one or two minutes before shutting the engine off to prevent turbo failure?
@JELLMACHINE.........Every OTR truck on the road today has a inline 6 ENGINE with TURBO's!
@@HiPlains1Good, I hope they do. Leave Dodge and Ram TF alone.
@@fel1x335 Mary Barra axed it because of low sales. They still have the corvette and they will never kill that. Plus Mary builds EV along same assembly as ICE so they can control production levels to meet high or low demand. Love or hate she knows how to maximize ROI for stock holders. 5:00 , you obviously never have been a victim of the oil sensor malfunctioning on you with the hurricane motor.
DUDE! Cmon, you know the value of having a dipstick in a towing vehicle. You want to see, feel and smell the oil from time to time.
Ditto
What difference does it make if it's faster than the hemi when they have thermostat failure leading to engine failure?
If they both have the same gas mileage then what is the point of going from the V8 to V6
This decision is a nonsense !
The 5.7 is more reliable for the same gas consumption .....
Make it make sense . I’ll wait . Trump 2024 . Now that makes sense .
Lost me. The v6 could not tow my camper . My v8 hemi can.

I’d rather have the 3.6 pentastar which is a 5 star reliable engine, than a non proven 3.0 hurricane
Isn't the hurricane twin turbo.. its also newish, if you get the HO there is also a hybrid component, none of that screams reliable to me..
@@joel6513 Exactly. Too much money, too much complication, too many things to go wrong, and WAY too much money; oh I said that twice lol...
@MichaelSmith-kr9qw oh yeah that 4.0 was a fantastic engine!
I had a slant six, it was a damn good engine. 👍🏻
At least Ford and GM still offer V8 options.
of course they did. I dont want a 6 cylinder.
Not a ford guy...but at least they didn't sell out.
@@gunlover7851 sell out out to who for what? wtf do y’all think “sell out” means?
@@Akosa117 Sell out to the brotherhood of Biden.
The test of time will determine if the I6 is better than the V8. I think the 392 V8 would be a better choice particularly for towing.
No V8, no Ram! The six cylinder will not be nowhere near reliable as a V8! You are a Stellantis hype man!🇺🇸
I wouldn't buy anything from Stellantis
Go drive one and tell me which one is better to drive! Still waiting on that check from Stellantis. Just being objective
I didn't want an Etorque,
so i bought a 3/4 ton with a 6.4. i will say, what im seeing is the new in line motor may very well be a good thing. At least be
competitive with the Ecoboost. At this point the Ecoboost runs away from the hemi. Even the 2.7 Ecoboost.
The biggest issue woth any turbocharged engine is maintenance. Long term ownership will cost you.
Facts. Way more too. The turbo will have to be replaced and it’s not cheap.
It's MOPAR (Both N/A and supercharged HEMI V8) , or NoCar
Yes , I'm talking with my heart , and not with my brain because , Japaneses are more reliable , and for less gasoline , they do the job
Sorry for my approximative phrases in english, by the way
$90k?! What the actual F*CK ?!!! That engine might not even last for 90k miles. Maybe that can be their new slogan, “Only a Dollar a Mile”.
Stellantis biggest mistake was not continuing to offer a v8 option along with the hurricane and electrified options
Both Ford and GM offer turbo charged 4 and 6 cylinder engines and v8s in half ton trucks plus electrified powertrains.
Gm still offers a turbo diesel in a half ton. Stellantis should give us options like the competition does. That being said i did drive a wagoneer with a hurricane and its fucking dope.the power is impressive...more than the 6.4 in the wagoneer
Amen! In Australia we have no v8 option in jeep at all. How stupid
I want a dipstick. Sensors go bad. Never seen a metal dipstick fail.
I am so a v8 guy. The sound a feel is so different. I have a 2017 and have big plans for it. For 70, 80k for a new truck. I will just biuld mine up to what i want.
Same here brotha!! Enjoy your beauty 4 gen!! 🙌🏼
@@A1CHARLIE722 i will, thanks
I remember when the top trim Limited was 60k. Anyone that would pay 90k for this truck with an unproven engine is in need of serious psychological evaluation.
Yes they did
GMC still has the 5.3L V8..
@3:36 The prices for these trucks are insane, in my opinion.
They killed all of dodge, not just ram or jeep or Chrysler, i mean the whole pie
I own a 15 Ram Hemi, and last Friday for shits and giggles i test drove a 25 Hurricane standard, not HO.
I must say it was a beautiful truck and the Hurricane was a smooth engine. Everything was nice except the price tag. 😂😂
Keep your 2015 Ram !
It seems like Stellantis is going for more of a "Performance" daily than a daily work truck like the hemis
UNPROVEN reliability
Hey Racer X i don't care how much Dodge is paying you to promote or try to convince customers to buy the New products they're pushing. Engines like the 6.4 l hemi and the super charge 6.2 l Hellcat are better than the new hurricane engine. That's just my opinion.
Dodge doesn’t not pay him and you should know that lmao
He makes his money from his channel .
Dodge is broke .
I see your thumbnail, just keep the SS, it's better than the MOPAR V8's/ Hurricane/EVs anyways. I traded my scatpack for a SS and its eons better.
Because of the taxes and regulations , thanks to the 46th for this ...
(Sarcasm )
@joel6513 Thanks for the advice. I really do love the SS it's an awesome car the LT1 engine Definitely packs a punch and I love the transmission mine is a 6 speed manual.
They are alot better( the V-8)...dependability is the key....
This guy LOVES to talk! This should have been a 4 minute video, tops.
Why no dipstick? Go see BMW and how the sensor fails so you run out of oil but the sensor says "ok" 👍
Not hating the tt I6. All I want is options. Should keep the hemi in lower numbers, but make the i6 standard engine
Think of how much more significant the power would be (and development money saved) if they would’ve simply turbocharged the 5.7!
Turbos fail too often
You can say all you want about that damn in-line 6 but we all saw the footage from direct connection. That engine barely produced a burnout, it sounds like shit, and it’s not nearly as fun. You know it, and I know it.
Spot on.
I’m good with my 6.2L V8 Silverado. Plus I love the 10-speed.
Absolutely, them European executives not understand American customers.
Racer X friend keep up the great work !!🇺🇸🇺🇸💪💪💪👍👍👍
I paid $1500 for my used 2001 ram sport 4x4 with 5.9 V8. Just towed my racecar with it 1700 miles round trip. Gonna take awhile to make up $90k in fuel costs😅
Can I get it in a standard cab, short bed, 2wd?
It can't. He mentioned it at least 3 times. Tows 2,000 lbs less
RacerX those trucks you included a screenshot of START at 70k. They are at least 20k overpriced in my opinion........other manufacturers included. The other issue is that isnt mentioned is that it's a first year release of that engine in the ram. Definitely smart to wait 3 or 4 years to see what issues come up and hopefully get resolved but the prices will probably be higher too
Try like 40k overpriced 💀
The extra price is partly due to all of those taxes .
Concerning your statement about waiting a couple of years , and see how the customers are reacting to their purchase is an old , but still a good advice
@BetterDeadThanRed_Reject1984 True.......and Stellantis like many others are bumping up the prices of the ICE vehicles to fund the EV development and production. Guess they figure the customers will pay one way or another.
We can thanks the 46th for these taxes and regulations that made this possible (I suppose ...)
Do you know it’s bad when a Dodge dealership has a Toyota right by the front door😂😂😂
The guys that are talking shit are probably driving Toyota Corolla’s and Honda Civics
They'll outlive any of these trucks so at the end they win 🤷♂️
Minus 2 cylinders....plus CRAZY A$$ money= bye bye Stellantis. They're already dead...just waiting for the coroner wagon.
Stellantis is taking a page from Toyota's playbook on how to ruin a good truck 😮
Stabilise? lol, they are killing their brand off mate.
I don't drive that fast, I spend lots of time in the left turn lane waiting for the arrow. If I want fast I'll drive my Mustang. V-8 for trucks.
One thing missing from this article was a comment on the axle ratios in each truck.
Stellantis is killing everything it’s touching
Hang on to your 5.7's
My Daytona Turbo was a blast to drive back in the day. I was going to drive it into the ground.
But at 70K the head gasket failed, had it replaced. Then not much later the turbo was going out so I sold it.
If I’m going to spend a lot of money, I want something with a proven track record.
No dipstick on the 6. That alone would keep me from owning one.
One run on regular and the other run on premium in my book it make a good difference.
The Hurricane as a passenger vehicle engine is pretty good, but it's overly complex. The Hemi is much simpler and better for towing and working on in a fleet environment and a dipstick is a necessity in that application.
$90,000.00 for a truck that doesn't do truck things.
Replacing the dipstick would be cheaper than replacing the sensors for the oil?
I'm tired of people comparing the 5.7 to the SST HO, the SST SO is the correct comparison to make.
