Tough to beat the 5.7 in my mind. Very useable power for the street. Between my wife and I, we’ve owned five 5.7s since 2003. Everyone has put a smile on my face! My current truck is a 2010 Dodge Ram 5.7 with over 120,000 miles. That may not sound like much but, up here in New Hampshire, that’s great. We were the first state to use road salt for winter road maintenance and we are still the number one users of salt per lane mile and for total snowfall in the country. I bought the truck new and had a Mopar CAI installed right off and a couple of years later I put on a Carven Competition Series muffler on it. I’ve never loved a vehicle as much as I do that truck. When it takes off, it sounds amazing! And entering an on ramp and feeling it hit the sweet spot on the cam…….. instant smile! I’m 71 and retired now and it’s the most fun you can have with your pants on! Love your channel!
GMC still has the 5.3L V8.. $46k is the cheapest config I could find with it but if you can afford the mid $50's the Elevation trim gets you one serious V8 truck. Just sayin'
The new engine may work, but I don’t understand why they canned the V8. Ford has been offering two turbo V6’s and the 5.0 V8’s for quite a few years, so you have a good choice. Toyota has been having problems with their turbo V6’s and never should have quit offering the V8. I just don’t see how offering a limited engine choice is a good thing.
Stellantis dropped the marketing ball. They could have introduced the new Ram with both the Hemi and the Hurricane. Then let the market (customer) decide. Ford did this with their F-150 by offering customers a 2.7 liter & 3.5 liter Ecoboost engines. They also offer a 5.0 liter V-8.
My 2018 3.5 Eco-Boost F150 has 375HP. They have had their issues as will the Hurricane, but I have not had any issues that weren't fully covered under warranty. It still runs like new. I paid 38K for my base 4x4 Supercrew model back in 2018. I don't think I want to pay almost 2.5x for the Ram even though it has all the goodies. I would give the Hurricane engine a chance, but it would have to be a lot cheaper than 90K. You are right on the choking point being the price!

In The interviews with Rams engineers the point is Less Emissions and getting the EPA and foreign governments off their back I’ve owned the 5.7 and now own the hurricane I prefer the hurricane
❤DODGE RAM, but very sad there is no V8 offering. I am happy I still have my two 2001 RAM trucks with the 318ci V8 Magnum. Stellantis is completely at fault for this direction the brands have gone! 😢
I own a 15 Ram Hemi, and last Friday for shits and giggles i test drove a 25 Hurricane standard, not HO. I must say it was a beautiful truck and the Hurricane was a smooth engine. Everything was nice except the price tag. 😂😂
RAM sales are off 40 %....IMO 25 % due to price and 15 % due to no V8. After a year or two sales will stabilize as V8 purists move on to other brands. If they want to recover some of those sales they need to de-content and reduce pricing. Jeep is off 20 %....IMO that's mostly about price...not V8 issue.
Us 5.7 owners don't get the 5.7 for only performance 1st is reliability second is maintenance and how simple and easy the 5.7 is to work on without having to take it to a shop and that's the reason nobody wants a sensor witch is just another unnecessary sensor to go bad and drive up the price of maintenance already the hurricane is going to be less reliable and more expensive to maintenance because of the turbos
Respectfully, RacerX , as a born French . It's MOPAR (Both N/A and supercharged HEMI V8) , or NoCar Yes , I'm talking with my heart , and not with my brain because , Japaneses are more reliable , and for less gasoline , they do the job Sorry for my approximative phrases in english, by the way
No replacement for displacement. Also that I6 is working way harder with all the boost to make up the difference. I just don't see 3.0 litres be able to tow as well with comparable gas mileage to the 5.7.
You can say all you want about that damn in-line 6 but we all saw the footage from direct connection. That engine barely produced a burnout, it sounds like shit, and it’s not nearly as fun. You know it, and I know it.
My Daytona Turbo was a blast to drive back in the day. I was going to drive it into the ground. But at 70K the head gasket failed, had it replaced. Then not much later the turbo was going out so I sold it. If I’m going to spend a lot of money, I want something with a proven track record.
Yes, the Hurricane is quick as hell but I do not drive like an idiot on the streets... I like quick, powerful vehicles but want a V8 RAM,I don't want a 6 cyl...I like to cruise in traffic or back roads and listen to my V8 HEMI with nice performance exhaust! The sound of a rumbling V8 relaxes me and makes me in a good mood,I dont need to be the quickest off the line(if I did I would buy a Tesla Plaid). I have a stock appearing 1968 Dodge Charger R/T with a 440 Magnum with 628hp and it runs low 11's in street trim that's a 235 rear tire and 3.23 axle ratio..It is a 10 second ride with a weekend of minor tweaks. Engine is de tuned for the street,my buddy ran low 10's in the same engine(a few minor differences)...I also own a 2016 Hellcat Challenger and owned a 5.7 Hemi Challenger as a daily for several years, was extremely happy with that too..Like I said I dont need to be the fastest/quickest!
I agree eith racer x on the performance side. I almost purchased one too. My concern was the potential and current issues the hurricane has. Basically the reliability and from what I've read it has a thermostat fail issue
I just bought a rebel and the only thing I miss is the v8 sound. The straight six is as bad ass as it was in my grandpa’s F100. It is just a good architecture to build off of.
For me, I went from a Hyundai Veloster, with 200 hp and 195 tq to a Jeep Renegade with 177 hp and 210 tq.... the Veloster Turbo was 2800 pounds and the Renegade is 3200.. And what you said about getting used to the performance.. I was used to the Veloster, and when I said the Renegade was slow... So many people jumped me, because they thought it was so quick.
I drove the hurricane in the wagoneer when it first came out....while I’m not enthusiastic for the changes, that hurricane rips like a mf. I was very shocked driving that compared to the 6.4 in the same car.
I just bought a 2024 Ram Rebel with a Hemi for 20K OFF msrp. Wasn't interested in a SST. Incentives weren't nearly as good either. They have also cheapened out on several things for 2025 including going back to incandescent signals.
they had a choice to go ahead and make a last gen 5.7 that got better MPG and didn't have the infamous "ticking-Sound" they chose to discontinue one of the best product offerings.
For those of you who'd still buy a RAM Truck, which would you buy: RAM eTORQUE: The 5.7L V8 produces 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque (295 kW & 556 Nm) and is assisted by a 48-volt mild hybrid system that Ram calls eTorque. This is a belt driven electric motor/generator that can provide an additional 130 lb-ft of torque (176 Nm) when it’s needed. Tows 12,750 pounds. RAM Twin Turbo Hurricane: The all-new 3.0-liter Hurricane engine is rated at 420 horsepower and 469 lb.-ft. of torque, while the High Output engine is rated at 540 horsepower and 521 lb.-ft. of torque. Capability includes a maximum towing capacity of 11,580 pounds, a maximum payload of 2,300 pounds and up to 24-inches of water fording. Tows 11,560 pounds. RAM REV Electric Vehicle: Tows 14,000 pounds If I had to choose, I'd find a RAM truck with the 6.4-L HEMI. Tows 17,730 pounds. If I ever bought a truck to do work with, I'd want maximum towing capacity and wouldn't be so worried about luxury features. I'd buy a USED 6.4-L and take the gas mileage hit. If the etorque and Hurricane get equal gas mileage, that actually looks bad for the Hurricane. The Hurricane in the Grand Wagoneer is only 2 MPG better than the 6.4-L. More power requires more boost, requires more fuel, requires more air...
RacerX those trucks you included a screenshot of START at 70k. They are at least 20k overpriced in my opinion........other manufacturers included. The other issue is that isnt mentioned is that it's a first year release of that engine in the ram. Definitely smart to wait 3 or 4 years to see what issues come up and hopefully get resolved but the prices will probably be higher too
The extra price is partly due to all of those taxes . Concerning your statement about waiting a couple of years , and see how the customers are reacting to their purchase is an old , but still a good advice
@BetterDeadThanRed_Reject1984 True.......and Stellantis like many others are bumping up the prices of the ICE vehicles to fund the EV development and production. Guess they figure the customers will pay one way or another.
All I know is that I have read about all kinds of 5.7l hens owners that had Major Issues 🤔 And I do know that back when straight six’s were in production 60’s 70’s early 80’s they would run FOREVER !!! Even the old slant six dodgers produced they ran forever , and with twin turbos on the Hurricane I think they will win people over . I drove my son’s 2019 Ram 1500 5.7l hens and I Wasn’t Impressed .
I mean when you sell millions of a product you are gonna have a few that have problems. The new hurricane is very different then a six cylinder designed in the 50's
Racer X...I have driven a non-HO hurricane 4x4 20in wheels with 3.55 rear..It is very quick and very quiet...inline 6's have been around for decades and with turbo's for more than 2 decades in BMW and Mercedes vehicles. After driving a Hemi Ram/F150 5.0 and Ecoboost 2.7 and 3.5 and 6.2 Chevy...the non HO was quicker than those...I can only imagine the HO.. A few test drives will convince most..It is now the one to beat. I also hope that time will prove them reliable. I don't need the luxury upper-trims a Big-horn/Lone-Star will suit my needs with the Standard Hurricane...It had no problem putting the power down..laying rubber if needed...I even saw a few test where there was less than a 1/2 difference in performance..between non/H.O...
It’s funny, or rather sad, but I remember a time when we were not only open minded but looking for novelties, experiencing, evolving, creating evolutions instead of fearing or rejecting everything new like stubborn old timers. People nowadays seem to be stuck in their line of thinking, with such a mentality we never would have gotten to the moon, folks would have been like, “Nah, get out of here, a rocket is not like a plane, we want good old propeller engines’. When did America get so old at heart?
Ford, unlike Stellantis, gives consumers the choice between the two Eco power plants and the 5.0 v8, both are popular and fairly reliable. The jury is still out on the Hurricane's reliability, so Ram would have been better served by offering the 5.7 along side the I-6.
The Hemi gets 1 mpg better in the city and it tows more..Also has a dipstick! Yes, is the oil light reliable, failproof tell me in 7,8,10 or 15 years will it be reliable and work? Not everyone gets new vehicles every year or two! I also like checking the oil from the dipstick. I had my 2013 RAM until 2023 and put over 200,000 miles on it, never an issue!! I also had a 1998 RAM 1500 from 1998-2013.the 5.9 V8 went 310,000 miles and never needed a rebuild or any issues (rebuilt trans at 198k)! Furthermore, the 540 hp H.O Hurricane is a rare top engine model...The 420 hp is what is more comparable to the Hemi. I wont buy a 6 cyl unless a Cummins, but I dont need a Diesel.. I had Turbo 4 cyl Dodge's that smoked or ran door to door with 5.0 Mustangs and V8 GM F bodies in the 90's..I made tons of cash in the 90's by selling 1980's Dodge turbo cars! But I never felt relaxed as I did in my 68 Charger RT 440 the sound/feel is unbeatable! Hell, even my 73 Charger with a 318 and nice turbo mufflers!
I've seen an inline V6 in an old Wrangler run for a year without oil, coolant, or a head gasket, so there's that. Never driven a turbo V6 but I've raced against a few, and they are very quick. Longevity usually comes down to the person that owns the vehicle. If the I6 doesn't sell, I'd assume it's because of the price tag or the MPG.
i am so so happy and love it every day more i drive a 1994 Ram 2500 4WD 5SPD 318 gas burner easy to work on it has every option you could get in 1994 and cost 26,000 wouldn't trade it for a new one of those. it scares me to think what it will cost to fix media blasting the intake valves when they start sticking and the cost of the turbos. my truck has direct connection headers 3" exhaust performance computer 4 wheel antilock brakes and hughes aluminum roller rockers and performance distributor 10mm wires and coil. truck gets 15mph around town and 17-18 on the road and pulls everything i need to pull and cheap to work on has 250,000 trouble free miles will be interesting to see one of those new ones with 250,000
Dodge/Ram had a nice niche carved out for themselves in terms of price - lower than Ford and GM and they scooped up Customers who were looking for a cheaper vehicle - which they were at the time. I personally bought a new Durango back in 2014 because they were sweet and the price was around $8k lower than the Explorer that was also in the running. Long story short - the Durango was returned under lemon law in NC because it had a fuel evap problem that the dealer could not figure out. Back to the price point - Dodge/Ram got the buyers looking to spend a little less and no question their truck/SUV designs can be beautiful and they're great when new. They don't age well, generally.....but that was Dodge/Ram's sweet spot. Now that their prices rival or exceed Ford and GM's - they've overshot the mark and their buying pool has dried up. Imagine that....newsflash, and I make a good living - even $60k is too damn high for me on a new vehicle. The big three are gonna have to come back to earth on price or they're looking at maybe bankruptcy/out of business if they can't get right. The pool of buyers who can and will spend that kind of $$ on new SUV's/trucks is limited. Peace, brother!
Well on the mpg the hemi actually gets better mpg... I've seen two different RUclipsrs do a 80mile and 140 mile circle with the two and hemi hemi came out on top with better MPG.
As someone who kinda new to performance type cars I can can get behind the hurricane because all I been hearing about is the 2jz and the power numbers and rb26 I been wanting an inline 6 but I don’t wanna go to bmw so the hurricane seems nice but my issue is I don’t like the look of the new charger and i don’t want a truck I also don’t want a 3 row seater I have friends and family that drive them rented them and they are like it doesn’t feel big and heavy
Hey Racer X i don't care how much Dodge is paying you to promote or try to convince customers to buy the New products they're pushing. Engines like the 6.4 l hemi and the super charge 6.2 l Hellcat are better than the new hurricane engine. That's just my opinion.
@joel6513 Thanks for the advice. I really do love the SS it's an awesome car the LT1 engine Definitely packs a punch and I love the transmission mine is a 6 speed manual.
Whether the new Charger has a v8 or i6 doesn't matter as much as there being no manual transmission option. Who cares what's powering it if you're driving a slushbox auto either way?
Hope they do a scat version for the six pack. I would keep an open mind on that thing and give it a chance (subjective to the pricing). I really liked its interior though.
I will pass and keep my Hemi for life. The fact they overpriced them is a major not going to happen. They will not convince people that a six is better. There was a reason they went away from the straight six forty years ago. Then let’s add the fact that turbo gas motors are not longevity products. History has proven that.
Direct injected engine with two turbos running 25+ psi boost? The intake valves will clog with carbon and blow by and cut output in half in less than 50,000 miles

Premium fuel for the HO and no dipstick in a truck is a killer for me
They should have kept a V8 option. The sales decline correlates directly with the lack of a v8

I guess I’m a Ford fanboy now, I went with the F150 with the 5.0. And it was $16k cheaper than the Ram !!!

Replacing the Hemi V8 with the Hurricane 6.. Did Stellantis Kill RAM? YES!
Ok, educated view, $90,000 ain't leaving my billfold for any truck. Stelantis has F-ed up.
You have $90,000 in your billfold? How do you sit down??
@sleepysleeper6390 by putting $90,000 in the other pocket. Haha.
The price is the killer!
And the taxes that makes everything that expensive tho

So many vehicles are too damn expensive today. Too much greed from the auto manufacturers and dealers.

The Hurricane in the Grand Wagoneer is only 2 MPG better than the 6.4-L.
More power requires more boost, requires more fuel, requires more air...
of course they did. I dont want a 6 cylinder.
Not a ford guy...but at least they didn't sell out.
@@gunlover7851 sell out out to who for what? wtf do y’all think “sell out” means?
@@Akosa117 Sell out to the brotherhood of Biden.
The test of time will determine if the I6 is better than the V8. I think the 392 V8 would be a better choice particularly for towing.
In The interviews with Rams engineers the point is Less Emissions and getting the EPA and foreign governments off their back
I’ve owned the 5.7 and now own the hurricane
I prefer the hurricane
Same, after driving it the hemi seems so unrefined
What did your family think when you came out gay when you pulled up in that truck?
❤DODGE RAM, but very sad there is no V8 offering. I am happy I still have my two 2001 RAM trucks with the 318ci V8 Magnum. Stellantis is completely at fault for this direction the brands have gone! 😢
I own a 15 Ram Hemi, and last Friday for shits and giggles i test drove a 25 Hurricane standard, not HO.
I must say it was a beautiful truck and the Hurricane was a smooth engine. Everything was nice except the price tag. 😂😂
Keep your 2015 Ram !
If they both have the same gas mileage then what is the point of going from the V8 to V6
This decision is a nonsense !
The 5.7 is more reliable for the same gas consumption .....
Make it make sense . I’ll wait . Trump 2024 . Now that makes sense .
Lost me. The v6 could not tow my camper . My v8 hemi can.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Make Automobile Great Again !
It seems like Stellantis is going for more of a "Performance" daily than a daily work truck like the hemis
Racer X friend keep up the great work !!🇺🇸🇺🇸💪💪💪👍👍👍
Ditching the 8 didn't seem to stop people from buying the F150... Which has been the best selling vehicle in America...
Not hating the tt I6. All I want is options. Should keep the hemi in lower numbers, but make the i6 standard engine
5:00 , you obviously never have been a victim of the oil sensor malfunctioning on you with the hurricane motor.
Respectfully, RacerX , as a born French .
It's MOPAR (Both N/A and supercharged HEMI V8) , or NoCar
Yes , I'm talking with my heart , and not with my brain because , Japaneses are more reliable , and for less gasoline , they do the job
Sorry for my approximative phrases in english, by the way
No replacement for displacement. Also that I6 is working way harder with all the boost to make up the difference. I just don't see 3.0 litres be able to tow as well with comparable gas mileage to the 5.7.
It can't. He mentioned it at least 3 times. Tows 2,000 lbs less
@3:36 The prices for these trucks are insane, in my opinion.
I bought the DT (new body) Ram 1500 etorque hemi V8 in 2021. I'm taking care of it with only 17,764 miles to date.
They get the same gas mileage. Dodge should just put a supercharger on the 5.7. They would sell like hot cakes.
they had a choice to go ahead and make a last gen 5.7 that got better MPG and didn't have the infamous "ticking-Sound" they chose to discontinue one of the best product offerings.
Love my 2022 Bighorn 5.7. Not convinced that turbos are worth the money or will last long term.
$90,000 MSRP for a 1/2 ton pickup or any pickup is crazy to me.
For those of you who'd still buy a RAM Truck, which would you buy:
RAM eTORQUE: The 5.7L V8 produces 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque (295 kW & 556 Nm) and is assisted by a 48-volt mild hybrid system that Ram calls eTorque.
RAM REV Electric Vehicle: Tows 14,000 pounds
If I had to choose, I'd find a RAM truck with the 6.4-L HEMI.
N/A V8 > Turbo engine !
@@BetterDeadThanRed_Reject1984none all are a big load 💩…but if I had to choose any that was naturally aspirated engine
The guys that are talking shit are probably driving Toyota Corolla’s and Honda Civics
RacerX those trucks you included a screenshot of START at 70k. They are at least 20k overpriced in my opinion........other manufacturers included. The other issue is that isnt mentioned is that it's a first year release of that engine in the ram. Definitely smart to wait 3 or 4 years to see what issues come up and hopefully get resolved but the prices will probably be higher too
Try like 40k overpriced 💀
The extra price is partly due to all of those taxes .
Concerning your statement about waiting a couple of years , and see how the customers are reacting to their purchase is an old , but still a good advice
@BetterDeadThanRed_Reject1984 True.......and Stellantis like many others are bumping up the prices of the ICE vehicles to fund the EV development and production. Guess they figure the customers will pay one way or another.
We can thanks the 46th for these taxes and regulations that made this possible (I suppose ...)
In EU we got alot I6 etc engines, we dont need another. We like V8 because sound etc.
And torque !
Been a ram guy since 2003. Have a 23 now. If I can't get a hemi next time, I'll be buying a Ford.
I wouldnt mind the new hurrican with a great warranty. Its F-ing price!!!
Yes. Next question.
Just bought a 24 and I’m out of the Ram market until the V8 is back
What’s next, a Hybrid Demon hurricane, lol.
I'm very glad that I'm subscribed to your channel. Your videos are always interesting, informative and professionally made.👠❤️🚗
The Hemi gets 1 mpg better in the city and it tows more..Also has a dipstick!
I wont buy a 6 cyl unless a Cummins,but I dont need a Diesel..
I just built and priced a couple of 2025 HO Rams on their website. Stellantis has lost their minds.
i am so so happy and love it every day more i drive a 1994 Ram 2500 4WD 5SPD 318 gas burner easy to work on it has every option you could get in 1994 and cost 26,000 wouldn't trade it for a new one of those. it scares me to think what it will cost to fix media blasting the intake valves when they start sticking and the cost of the turbos. my truck has direct connection headers 3" exhaust performance computer 4 wheel antilock brakes and hughes aluminum roller rockers and performance distributor 10mm wires and coil. truck gets 15mph around town and 17-18 on the road and pulls everything i need to pull and cheap to work on has 250,000 trouble free miles will be interesting to see one of those new ones with 250,000
Dodge/Ram had a nice niche carved out for themselves in terms of price - lower than Ford and GM and they scooped up Customers who were looking for a cheaper vehicle - which they were at the time.
We have to wait and see how the v6 holds up in the real world
Hurricane Charger should start at 40 to 45k. Even at that price, the Mustang GT still wins unless you need rear seats.
I just purchased a new 2024 Bronco. The 2.7 V6 turbo is a nice engine but it will never be a V8.
Mine has over 400 WHP and 480 WHP. It’s faster than all the V8’s I’ve owned 😄
Well on the mpg the hemi actually gets better mpg... I've seen two different RUclipsrs do a 80mile and 140 mile circle with the two and hemi hemi came out on top with better MPG.
For 90K I can buy a TRX, Ford Raptor with a V8 that's is more capable than the six pack
Yes.
I really love my ram rebel 2500 with the 6.4 liter v8 great runner , I’d have to drive the hurricane to see how it runs
As someone who kinda new to performance type cars I can can get behind the hurricane because all I been hearing about is the 2jz and the power numbers and rb26 I been wanting an inline 6 but I don’t wanna go to bmw so the hurricane seems nice but my issue is I don’t like the look of the new charger and i don’t want a truck I also don’t want a 3 row seater I have friends and family that drive them rented them and they are like it doesn’t feel big and heavy
yes
Hey Racer X i don't care how much Dodge is paying you to promote or try to convince customers to buy the New products they're pushing. Engines like the 6.4 l hemi and the super charge 6.2 l Hellcat are better than the new hurricane engine. That's just my opinion.
Dodge doesn’t not pay him and you should know that lmao
He makes his money from his channel .
Dodge is broke .
I see your thumbnail, just keep the SS, it's better than the MOPAR V8's/ Hurricane/EVs anyways. I traded my scatpack for a SS and its eons better.
Because of the taxes and regulations , thanks to the 46th for this ...
(Sarcasm )
@joel6513 Thanks for the advice. I really do love the SS it's an awesome car the LT1 engine Definitely packs a punch and I love the transmission mine is a 6 speed manual.
They are alot better( the V-8)...dependability is the key....
just wondering....... no aftermarket mufflers available for the hurricane platforms???? 🤔🤷♂️
They need to bring back the Ram R/T.
RIP Mopar... You will be missed
Minus 2 cylinders....plus CRAZY A$$ money= bye bye Stellantis. They're already dead...just waiting for the coroner wagon.
I will pass and keep my Hemi for life. The fact they overpriced them is a major not going to happen. They will not convince people that a six is better. There was a reason they went away from the straight six forty years ago. Then let’s add the fact that turbo gas motors are not longevity products. History has proven that.
Can I get it in a standard cab, short bed, 2wd?
🏆Racer X😎Can you get it in a🍀two-door square box👀✌️
Direct injected engine with two turbos running 25+ psi boost? The intake valves will clog with carbon and blow by and cut output in half in less than 50,000 miles
I don't drive that fast, I spend lots of time in the left turn lane waiting for the arrow. If I want fast I'll drive my Mustang. V-8 for trucks.
Do you know it’s bad when a Dodge dealership has a Toyota right by the front door😂😂😂
