Too bad they didnt have anyone at Stellantis that understood the US market! A Rebel 'GT' with the SST HO, would have been in high demand, if not priced higher than the RHO
When I drove the 3.0l I thought it sounded fine, good even for a turbo 6 truck. Obviously no v8 but very strong and smooth power. My biggest complaint is the spike in boost on the low end of the RPM. Compared to an ecoboost the power doesn’t feel as smooth. It does idle remarkably smooth, smoother than an ecoboost.
Yes Dodge is going down. The people they brought out to test drive their new EV’s weren’t impressed and at times joked about them. The actual Dodge reps didn’t seem too enthusiastic about them either. Do something very simple and add boost to that Hemi. Running a boosted truck against a NA truck! If that I6 is so good then why can it not beat the basic Hellcat! A boosted V8! The HO I6 won’t even touch it. Besides, the V8 engine will last longer especially when doing work and it’s already been shown several times that the I6 economy numbers aren’t as good as they claim. On top of that it’s still a stupid price for an I6 as they are charging a premium price for that engine.
I will stay with the Hemi. I don’t want a plastic cooling system i6. Plastic thermostat plastic impeller water pump. Plastic connections. There won’t be the same longevity as the proven V8. I have 179,000 on my 5.7 no tic no oil consumption. It was in the shop once when it was new. Only oil changes breaks and tires since new.
Nearly all modern vehicles have radiator with plastics end and water pumps. My wife's 2016 cherokee has had 4 thermostats.. why? Because it is electronic controlled. If engine doesn't warm up fast enough, it throws a CEL. Then you can't use remote start.
I have a 13’ ram hemi with 300k miles on it. Zero serious issues. When these hurricane engines are proven to do that reliably, I’ll except the new engines. I can’t expect imagine there’s going to be issues at least the first few years with these. Sell before warranty is up.
If I bought a new truck with a turbo, and planned to only drive it for five years. Then OK. If I planned to drive the wheels off it, or tow/haul heavy loads, I would want a V8.
I have a 2024 Rebel with a 5.7. I prefer the Stormtrooper front end as it ties it to the 4th gen warlock, there's history there. I have the blacked out package on mine so there is the all black wheels (no chrome). The tail lights look better on the 2024. The headlights are the same but the 24 has the LED surround. With AlfaOBD you can make the surround your DRL and it looks great! Can't do that in the 25. The 5.7 sounds great! Coming from the Ecodiesel (which blew up at 77,000 miles) I'm more than a little scared of Italian motors. I am very happy with my purchase. Thanks for the great review and comparison!
Came from the Hemi, love the sound! Just got Hurricane. 🌀 The new truck just drives smoother, quicker and has more usable power while towing and while off road.
I have a 2019 bighorn and no hemi tick, but I also changed the exhaust and added a wye before the cats so idk if the unrestricted flow doesn’t hurt the manifold or not.
5.9s.... a second slower than SSTHO, but remember the HO trucks not only have more options and weight, they have a heavier axel with more drivetrain loss.
Why is acceleration & 1/4 mile times so important for a full size truck. Two turbo's and 5000+ Psi fuel pressure with direct injection to accomplish basically what the hemi is already doing.
There must be a reason the Hurricane can't tow as much as the Hemi. I'll keep my Classic 2022 Hemi crew cab with 6.4 box with no e-torque or expensive turbos.
Did both trucks have 3.92 gears? My biggest problem with the Hurricane is no dipstick, 0W-20 oil(Ford and GM use 5W-30 in their turbo gas engines) and no dual fuel injection like Ford and Toyota have. Personally I have nothing against the whole turbo six thing since my last two out of three trucks have been F150s with the 3.5.
Hemi all day long. The biggest reason the TRX was born, give those Raptor lovers a reason to go RAM. I was one of those. Stallantis biggest mistake was to remove the Hellcat out of the TRX and take away the Hemi V8 in other models. With the CEO fired, Trump back in office and reversing all the Electric conversion BS, I am hoping smarter heads will prevail and we will see the V8 return at some point.
Tim Kuniskis is returning to run the company, Kuniskis is the reason why the hemi even exists today, supposedly a new "Magnum" series of engines was in development when the Idiot original CEO bought forth all the EV nonsense and axing the hemi and Tim Kuniskis left over that decision
they need to bring back the Dakota mid sized trucks and put those hurricane motors in it, imagine a Dakota R/T AWD with that HO motor in it,, I would buy the first one that comes off the assembly line, Hopefully with the resignation of the CEO at stellantis and the return of Tim Kuniskis, hopefully he will turn the company around. keep the hemi as an option for those who do not want the hurricane motor
Thanks for the video! I’ve had 5 Ram trucks, all with Hemi engines, and there is no chance I trade my ‘17 Ram V8 for a I6. It’s never happening. Not turning in my man card for a sewing machine.
Also, you're not buying a truck to be fast from red light to red light. Put these trucks through a towing torture test other than what TFL did and see which outperforms the other long term. Might i suggest a minimum of a 1000-mile towing torutre test. I could bet the hemi will live longer and have fewer issues.
I think so too.i do t trust twin turbo set up from Ram. It's most likely cheaply put together with a whole bunch of plastic pipes in the hottest part of the engine just waiting to start leaking like crazy after 50,000km
The inline 6 twin turbo wins the race but the Hemi will drive by it when it's in the shop getting the engine replaced because a turbo blew and puked it's guts into the engine.
Dodge calls for thin (0-20) oil in the HEMI 5.7 for a tad better MPG to raise their CAFE rating. This is what causes the tick. I went to what is called for in my Scat Pack (0-40) and never heard the tick again from my RAM.
TFL just did the tow test w the RHO and uphill it did great, but down hill it had 11 break applications which is way worse than the raptors or the TRX. It down shifted and was holding between 4-5k rpm’s but not enough engine breaking sadly.
Those round exhaust tips have long been a departure angle issue. Why doesnt RAM just put tips with flat bottoms to cure the issue??? Or put the tips higher in the bumper space? Seems like those are some no-brainer solutions...
Those new lights drive me nuts! I own a new rebel. Why would they get rid of the classic Ram led projectors with the top and bottom rim light?? The truck looks like tradesman lights. Rear halogen?? It’s the only thing that irritates me about the new one. Minus the no V8 sound.
Hey fellas. Any idea why RAM didnt consider a redesign and go with OHCs and 24 or 32 valves to continue the 5.7? Look what that did for the 5l coyote ferp[etesake!
I’m negotiating right now for a Bighorn crew cab 4x4 with the SO motor. Offer is $45,500 plus tax, registration, stupid doc fee, even $5 tire tax. I’ll get a response tomorrow. BUT I have concern about this new-ish SO engine. Dealership says it has been in the Jeep Wagoner since 2023. I need to research that claim. I’m leery because I bought the 2016 Ram with the notorious Ecodiesel 3.0 engine. Driving it is sheer anxiety. Will the ED die today??????? So, will the SO cause the same worry?
It has been in the wagoneer since 22. So it's not brand new. I got my 25 bighorn in October. Sticker was 63700 with rambox. Night edition, level 2. For 45000. Trade was 23 laramie cummins. I've had 3 hemi. Only thing I miss is my flowmaster. People talking shit about it, don't have it and don't know how long it will last.
The Hurricane may turn out to be a good engine, no one knows. What we do know is that you always stay away from these new designs until they have proven themselves. Look at Ford’s 10 speed transmission. It was problematic at first, now it’s improving, but still has a way to go. It will probably eventually become a great transmission.
I have a 2020 ram 1500 hemi. The oil cooler failed, allowing engine oil to tranvell into the cooling system, contaminating the coolant. STELLANTIS does not care. Dealer replaced part under warranty but refused to flush the cooling system. My first purchase to ever have a warranty and I get to pay for my big boy vehicle payment and a repair that should have been covered. I will never buy another FCA/stellantis produce.
That truck is too big and wide for such a tiny engine (especially sound wise) Hellcat motors made sense for a truck that size. But that ricer engine is like TRX after it visited the vet to get neutered 😂
Wait… why would you not show the 0-60 from the hemi? For doing a comparison there is a lack of comparing here. Additionally you brake torqued the launch to raise rpm’s, was this done the same in the hemi run? Why would you not show the device or screen shot of where you recorded data? To be fair, I have no doubt the inline six probably beat it, after all it is lighter. But if you’re going to do a comparison show the data and tests.
Additionally, the premise of this video is to talk about the performance comparison between the SO inline six and the hemi and you spend three quarters of the video describing differences between styling and interiors. Additionally, why was the 25 considered used at 2300 miles. Somebody buy it and not like it?
We did give the Hemi 0-60 verbally. We just didn’t film an in vehicle segment to streamline the episode. We should have been more clear about this. Brake torque was applied on both trucks for 0-60 testing. Thanks for the feedback, and thanks for watching!
@@TexasTruckChannel Streamline how? Your title is literally Engine comparison 0-60 and majority of the episode is spent on styling. Could have removed a majority of that and filmed the segments actually relevant to the title.

Then you should get a 2500, which most would want a diesel, which isn’t a v8. It’s a 6 cylinder..
The hurricane has way too many plastic parts.
They need to replace a ton of parts on the Hurricane.
Dorman would make a mint.😂
Hemi for the win.
Heck yeah! America is rejecting these high priced I6 trucks. I don’t know anyone who wants one of these. I’m keeping my ‘17 Ram with a Hemi.
Guve me the hemi regardless of performance.
Give me performance every day of the week
Hemi, hemi, hemi
@Ironslice1 enjoy ram customer service
Came from the Hemi, love the sound! Just got Hurricane. 🌀 The new truck just drives smoother, quicker and has more usable power while towing and while off road.
What do you tow, how far and how much weight?
No one wants that bullshit. Re work the hemi and squeeze some more out of it instead of the turbo six crap
Yup, you can thank the EPA brought to you by the treasonous politicians
Cool video ! I just fixed my hemi tick I had to laugh out loud @ 2019 5.7 Ram I love the healthy cold start
I have a 2019 bighorn and no hemi tick, but I also changed the exhaust and added a wye before the cats so idk if the unrestricted flow doesn’t hurt the manifold or not.
Dope Video. I just picked up a 2025 SST Ram 🙂
Procharger is a great addition to the hemi for alot less then buying a new 80k truck
5.9s.... a second slower than SSTHO, but remember the HO trucks not only have more options and weight, they have a heavier axel with more drivetrain loss.
Why is acceleration & 1/4 mile times so important for a full size truck.
Two turbo's and 5000+ Psi fuel pressure with direct injection to accomplish basically what the hemi is already doing.
Hey Yall, I have a 2025 Ram Rebel. I could really use those liners you’re giving away!
Good vid, although I would like to see a 6.4 in the mix. Maybe a shootout with all four, the 6.4, 5.7, S.O. and H.O.
We would love to, but Ram never made a 6.4 1500. Just makes it harder to make an apples to apples comparison.
let see how many years that engine will stand....
The new v8 is just around the corner. It’ll dominate all production engines out there.
Stellentis makes that claim about a lot of product. When was the Charger supposed to be ready? Just around the corner.
Never will I choose either one of these V6s over My Magnum or my Hemi ‼️🇺🇸
without the Hemi; Dodge, Ram & Jeep is bankrupt (and it may already be too late to come back from Tevaras)!
Hemi for me any day!
I sincerely hope he brings the magnum program back. This manufacturer needs a V8.
The SST is very complicated engine to work on, and thermostat failures are killing them. Plenty of RUclips videos on this
In the ram? There is no need to reply back. It was in the wagoneer. So many people talking shit in here.😅
@ wagoneers with the SST are having these Problems. Educate yourself
Hemi because of the sound ❤
they need to bring back the Dakota mid sized trucks and put those hurricane motors in it, imagine a Dakota R/T AWD with that HO motor in it,, I would buy the first one that comes off the assembly line, Hopefully with the resignation of the CEO at stellantis and the return of Tim Kuniskis, hopefully he will turn the company around. keep the hemi as an option for those who do not want the hurricane motor
$3000 stop/start alternator is a nightmare in itself lol
Covered under emissions 10y/100k, just sell it at 99k miles :)
@@AesirVarus 8 year 80k on my 19
Old rebel looks so much better. The new look looks like a mini van. I’ll take the 24 all day.
Good comparison, but Stellantis f'd this up by not delivering better mpg in the SST. I mean really!
2 trucks 2 drivers, didnt line them up, video gets a zero.
What didn’t line up?
@@TexasTruckChannelhe means a drag race
Ah, got it. We don’t have a track or air strip near by for filming. 0-60 data is what we lean on.
I haven't watched the video yet... But by your comment I predict the hurricane won.
The inline 6 twin turbo wins the race but the Hemi will drive by it when it's in the shop getting the engine replaced because a turbo blew and puked it's guts into the engine.
😂😂😂lol‼
How do you figure that
Dodge calls for thin (0-20) oil in the HEMI 5.7 for a tad better MPG to raise their CAFE rating. This is what causes the tick. I went to what is called for in my Scat Pack (0-40) and never heard the tick again from my RAM.
I'll keep my 5.7
My hemi tick blew the engine at 97k miles, pushed oil into my cold air intake it had massive amounts of blow-by.
How do they tow tho ? I’ve heard the hurricane does it better
You didn't mention (unless I missed it) that the SO get way better MPG than the 5.7 or the HO.
You all are wrong about the engine availability. The Limited and Longhorn both come with the High Output.
TFL just did the tow test w the RHO and uphill it did great, but down hill it had 11 break applications which is way worse than the raptors or the TRX. It down shifted and was holding between 4-5k rpm’s but not enough engine breaking sadly.
Etorque does torque fill between shifts
Really considering getting the 24 rebel with the tried and tested hemi rather than that new engine. .
Those round exhaust tips have long been a departure angle issue. Why doesnt RAM just put tips with flat bottoms to cure the issue??? Or put the tips higher in the bumper space? Seems like those are some no-brainer solutions...
The 25 looks a lot cheaper than the 24, the lights are worse and the grill looks the same as a tradesman.
Personal preference. I like the looks and inside of the 25 better.
@calebniederhofer6529 the new 25 looks like a tradesman from 10 feet away if it doesn't have the 2 tone paint, very disappointing.
I don’t know if they are the same but I had a Promaster van and the headlights were the cheapest thing ever it was like Temu supplied it
RAM needs to bring back the ecodiesel! We want that MPG/Towing power!
It only gets that mpg if it is violating epa emissions.
The tick isn’t fine… if not fixed sooner than later it’ll destroy the lifter and possibly the engine.
Im taking the ford 3.5EB. its so easy to make big power with few mods and a tune.
We are personally working with a 3.5 EB with a tune, it’s hard not to love.
45500??...wtf??...I paid 58500 AFTER getting 7k in rebates...Bighorn Lonestar Black edition with all options incl panoramic roof...hard to believe 45k
The only good thing stelantis dis was make only 1 Cummins option which is the h-o in all the. H-d trucks with additional hp
How about to compare the TRX turbo charged V8 with the HRO. Turbo vs turbo...
Are you dumb? The TRX is a 6.2L supercharged V8 not a Turbo charged
Ok idk where ur getting 7.5 out of hemi with my ob2 scanner my ram rebel on 33 ran 6.488 and after going to 34.8 tires I now run a 7.088
Does the back window still leak?
The old ram had the tire pattern on the seats not the floor mats I have a 19 rebel with the tire pattern on the seats
Really want the SO in a Dakota or a Gladiator. With a dipstick.
I've owned 3 rams and am a fan but i think they should offer the hemi and the hurricane
Hemi’s are coming back….order sheets are in…and they are going to offer a few different Hemi’s in the RAM 1500….YOU GUYS NEED TO GET YOUR INFO RIGHT…
Just so we are clear, the hemi is not coming back as of this writing. Thanks for watching!
Wrong lmao
I don't need a truck to do those 0-60 times! I think it's time to make trucks more fuel efficient!!!
With a v8
What gears in the rear end?
Waiting on my RHO. Currently own a RR and 150 raptor
That truck is too big and wide for such a tiny engine (especially sound wise) Hellcat motors made sense for a truck that size. But that ricer engine is like TRX after it visited the vet to get neutered 😂
Hemi all the way.....
Hurricane will be a monster pulling machine.
Being an inline 6 fan, I would take the hurricane. More powerful, smoother, quieter and better fuel milage.
Or 3k for a new turbo when it goes out and sends the turbine wheels down the exhaust and metal shavings in the motor
16:29 is where the video starts.
I have the 2019 Ram Hemi 5.7 V8 Big Horn, WITHOUT the ETorque with 97,000 mile. ABOSOLUTE NO ISSUES. NO "Hemi Tick". Call me "Old School", but I will take the sound of that 5.7 Hemi over that Hurricane ANY DAY of the week and TWICE on Sunday! And you guys sound like you're completely BIASED toward the New Hurricane.
Pass, no deal on either, will keep my 05 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins. These candy trucks have that stupid 'dial-a-gear' knob on the dash. screw that. No shifter. At least mine has a shifter on the column and you can manually shift if you want. These are cars.
The 5.7 at least has a dipstick. Big no on the absence of a dipstick on the straight six. Pass. Bad enough not one for the transmission. Hope Tim Kuniskis can fix Ram.
