There’s a colloquial term in baseball called “Pitching a Maddux”. It’s when a pitcher throws a complete game shutout with less than 100 pitches in less than two hours.
Once witnessed him carve up the Yankees in Yankee Stadium. Complete game shut out in 2:05. The Yanks didn’t know what hit them. In my opinion, the greatest “PITCHER” in the last 50 years. Not sure how he was not unanimous HOF. Could not break a pane of glass yet was DOMINANT.
Was that in the ‘96 WS? I know you guys got us, but those first to games in Yankee Stadium were electric for us Braves fan. We thought we had it in the bag… oopsies
For 2-3 years I think Pedro had a slight edge but for his career Maddux was my favorite pitcher to watch. When my son started pitching in youth baseball I used to turn on TBS when Maddux was pitching, sit my son down, and tell him "imitate this guy!" Had a smooth repeatable windup, had incredible movement but still hit his spots, changed speeds... incredible pitcher.
Not to mention, he always finished in prime fielding position, shoulders square to the plate. Maddux is my favorite pitcher ever, but I’m inclined to agree with you on Pedro.
As an owner or Manager I would much rather have a "command" pitcher like Maddux than a guy that throws fire. Maddux would and could go deep into the game while really frustrating the batters. He also allows the defense to field their positions which is a good thing to keep them in the game and get outs. Many times Maddux would throw ONE PITCH and it would be a soft grounder or DP. Tough to get a man in scoring position with 1 or 0 outs.

My father and I used to go to Florida to catch a week's worth of spring training games. We went to see the Rays and it was great. I met Wade Boggs, super nice guy. He actually shot my friend Bryan in the chest once but that's a different story. Anyway, after the game, fan's would stand outside the front gate hoping to catch an autograph. I got a few, but when Canseco came out, I didn't even bother. But the horrible part was he would take a pen and an item from a fan, sign it, and drop on the ground. He did this over and over while walking to the parking lot. The rule was, once he's on the blacktop of the parking lot, you can't follow him anymore. So this little kid finally got his pen and item into Canseco's hand and just as he's about to sign it, his foot hits the blacktop and he just dropped the pen and item without signing. The kid immediately burst into tears. Because of that (amongst other reasons) I've never hated a player of any sport more in my life than him. What a guy!
