This is complete north Vietnamese propaganda, even worse then U.S propaganda, at least the U.S would use a modern equivalent. Mig-17 was outdated junk compared to F-105, and realistically in Vietnam air vs air, the U.S vastly outclassed Vietnam in every role. Most U.S planes were shot down with SAM's, not by other planes.
@@makakura055 The Vietnamese had some badass aces don't get me wrong, but when you look at aircraft shot down you can see how the U.S was far more dominant in there technology. Yes far more U.S planes where shot down by all methods, (2,251 planes, each one serving different roles from reconnaissance to tanker aircraft) as the U.S had more planes at there disposal. The Vietnamese Airforce lost almost every fighter they had by the end of the war. the kill to loss ratio of the American F-4 Phantom was 3:1, while the Mig-21 was 1:2. There were 269 American, and Vietnamese aircraft shot down in air to air combat, only 76 of the planes shot down happened to be American. Also just an off topic fact, the modern F-15 has a kill to loss ratio of 102:0 making it undefeated.
@@makakura055 The North Vietnamese air force had excellent ground-controlled intercept radar to direct its planes, U.S. Air Force radar coverage ranged from spotty to nonexistent over assigned strike routes. Aircrews operated with little more than their eyes to guide them. Fighters escorting the bomb-carrying aircraft never knew where the threat would come from and therefore normally stayed close to the planes they were protecting so they wouldn’t be caught out of position during an attack. All of that makes it even more impressive the American jet fighters had much better kill ratios.
105 really needed Phantom escorts. By the late 1966 the Air Force had concluded that the Thud, although a capable fighter bomber, couldn't handle the 17 on its own. When the MiG-21 platform came along, the need for Phantom air cap became a necessity. The VPAF pilots were damn good on their own. Their skill makes Operation BOLO, led by Robin Olds of 8th Fighter Wing, that much greater of an achievement.
The American Air Force lost over 60 aircraft in the first 20 days of the official war in Vietnam to North Vietnamese Migs. I would say that number is even higher, but will never know? The American planes had very little chance against the brand new Mig-17/19 and 21/s flown by an Air Force that was highly trained and very disciplined! The worst mistake the U.S.A. made was when they took the gun off the F-4 Phantoms. Big respect to the people of Vietnam and their Air Force!
From an unbiased perspective I can say that the f-4 phantom was a better aircraft than the mig 17 by a very long shot, the mig 19 by a long shot and the mig 21 by a bit. Although it did t have a gun the sidewinder missiles would require you to sustain incredible g’s to dodge and also were hard to see as they would come from behind you. Your seat would block your view and you would get tunnel vision adding even more to the chance that you would not see them. The Vietnamese pilots were also not trained well especially compared to the American pilots. Adrian Lawrence your statement is very very very wrong, also the ones shot down were mostly outdated a-4 Skyhawks and generally cumbersome f-105s. Do your research before you comment my guy.
The only real advantage a MiG-17 had over an F-105 was agility. There were many occurrences where a MiG-17 would get in behind a 105 to try and take a shot but the 105 could always light it’s burner and accelerate away. Speed was about the only advantage a 105 had because in a dogfight it was a bear.

There are many wrong technical things but the quality of graphics are extraordinary well done !! I think these short movies is the response to all those American documentaries that show american victories. In the begining we see Migs coming from High altitude to intercept yankees under them . I think its wrong because Migs 17 are designed to give there best in low and medium altitude .
that why the US fighter didn't think that we would strike from the higher altitude. In spite of poor technology, we took advantage of surprise elements to shot them down.
@@apanzerdivisionwithinterne6789 of course we cannot beat US fleet. but we could give them casualty which makes them to be careful when flyling over North Vietnam sky. our mission never was take down the whole us fighters but shot down enough B52 bombers to force them into Paris Peace Accords.
actually the only way migs could have had a small chance to reach in firing range of f-105 was that diving from higher altitude to them, because f-105 is mach 2 super sonic jet with after burner with much higher rate of climb.....even diving from high altitude i wonder how on earth mig -17 could catch them
@championszz North vietnamese had good fighters , almost equal to american , mig-21,19,17 was not bad fighters at all , but vietnamese fighters had lower flight training and also operating foreign made machines , and us casualties was mostly due to AAA batteries and SAM rockets , i think if they had russian pilot they could make it equal in the skies and even achieve air superiority , combining SAM systems and Numerous AAA batteries and fighter jets . (us lost 3700 fixed wing planes while north vietnam lost 161 aircrafts of all sort) but even now we talking North vietnamese shot many many us aircrafts like 450 phantom and 250 f-100 its a great achievment, those were expensive machines. while for example in iran iraq war , f-4 phantoms totally dominated iraqi migs of all sort (mig-21 , mig-31 ,su -22 ,mirage f1 , super etendard )(kill ratio 150:35) with very one sided kill ratio.....as you said the operator of the machine makes big diffrence

Vietnamese pilots fought for the happiness of their women and children. What did American pilots fight for? For the fact that financial and industrial businessmen would get rich... Greetings from the Russians to the Vietnamese comrades.
The US troops thought they were fighting for freedom against the spread of communism. I as an American have deep respect for the North Vietnamese as they fought against imperialist powers. The only issue is that they were communist. I still respect them, God bless the brave men on both sides of this war.
Throughout the Second Indochina War, North Vietnam lost 132 fighter aircraft (1 MiG-15UTI, 63 MiG-17, 8 MiG-19 & 60 MiG-21) and a single Il-28 bomber. By comparison, the anti-communist coalition lost over 5,000 military aircraft (out of which 3,744 were lost by the United States).
That seems a bit misleading when you compare the amount of aircraft fielded by the Americans vs the Vietnamese. The US had more aircraft to be shot down that were being used more regularly.
So Vietnamese airforce lost 132 planes to shot down 3744 US planes? Where do you read this in SovietPedia? Have you ever heard about worn planes, damaged planes, crashed aircrafts in flight, flak shot down, human flying errors: planes that is economical better leave there than repair them? Obviously this war was a failure for US, but not in the air for sure! You can't paragonate US trillion flight hours with Vs thousand flight hours.

American doctrine just sucked
I'm from Vietnam
The American Air Force lost over 60 aircraft in the first 20 days of the official war in Vietnam to North Vietnamese Migs. I would say that number is even higher, but will never know? The American planes had very little chance against the brand new Mig-17/19 and 21/s flown by an Air Force that was highly trained and very disciplined! The worst mistake the U.S.A. made was when they took the gun off the F-4 Phantoms. Big respect to the people of Vietnam and their Air Force!
That's false very false ..any many miss were destroyed by f 4s the f 4s were just better.

The Mig 17 worked over the Thuds at low speed. Best to drop your load and kick in the afterburners . And make a beeline back to base.
Check the fact here www.skytamer.com/MiG-17PF.html, the MIGs did indeed attack from above.
(us lost 3700 fixed wing planes while north vietnam lost 161 aircrafts of all sort)
but even now we talking North vietnamese shot many many us aircrafts like 450 phantom and 250 f-100 its a great achievment, those were expensive machines. while for example in iran iraq war , f-4 phantoms totally dominated iraqi migs of all sort (mig-21 , mig-31 ,su -22 ,mirage f1 , super etendard )(kill ratio 150:35) with very one sided kill ratio.....as you said the operator of the machine makes big diffrence
I love how people are"f105 is faster bla bla" , yes it is but they arent constantly engaging afterburner ,otherwise they wouldnt even reach the target area. For most of their flight they flew in subsonic,to conserve fuel and with all the bombs they carried they fell back into the speed range of the mig17.

My right ear really enjoyed this video
Sure! Vietnamese pilots are real heros defending their land. In 20 century , 3 superpowers were humiliated and defeated by viets : France, US and China in 1979 war. Moreover, they libarated Cambodia from genocidal bloody Polpot which killed 3 millions people. Deep respect!
