My strike causes 50 yards difference in distance, that’s a lot more than any £500 driver can achieve. Like I’ve said before I’ll keep my m4 for a while
I wouldn't be fussed if taylormade brought them out and was honest and said, these look different so we brought these out, rather than create some jargon marketing bullcrap about getting faster.
Actually I think he was right doing it this way. The course has too many variables which can affect the test... Wind, weather, temperature, grass, using different balls. Controlled indoor environment is probably as good as you can get without robots.
You hit the nail on the head. Launch angles and spin rates. So many people get caught up with swing speeds and ball speeds. Majority of players can gain yardages with their existing drivers just by improving their launch angles.
Because the manufacturers are at or near the design limits set by the USGA and R&A, there are only slight incremental gains to be found and their Marketing depts are desperately trying to make the small gains seem bigger. The reality of ALL the Driver releases due this year is that they will be better, but not by much. But anyway can we have a mass Test at the end of the release season, to test the new Titleist, TM, Callaway, Ping (coming soon), Cobra, Mizuno, Srixon and last but not least PXG offerings to find the Champion!
I mean this video kind of disproves your point. Most reviewers seem to agree that this club generates less backspin and higher launch angle compared to previous years.
@@toerqio123 How interesting that two people can watch the same vid, but reach different conclusions. Hi James. I had a fitting for M6 this week. My old Taylormade R11s was giving me 216 yards. M6 best shot was 263 yards!!! But easily 20 yards further on every shot. I am an 18 handicapper. I felt £399 was a good investment. I ordered one!

I would say that it is LOOKING better but consistency could use some work. The shots without club data on your Flightscope should be disregarded for dispersion. Spin axis is unreasonable on those shots. Also some foot spray on the face to show impact location would be interesting. I appreciate the review, thumbs up!

@@damianwatson5443 I agree. Robotic data is the only way to prove any claim that club manufacturers make with their new drivers. With human testing there are far to many variables to give an accurate result.

Interesting comparison, but it's not really going to help me make any kind of decisions. When I see someone with *my* swing speed of around 85-90 mph trying both clubs, *then* I'll know if there are any "distance gains" out there for me. Even mid-handicapper Mark is probably a level or two ahead of me in speed.
I definitely wanna see a on course test! The thing is though everything is so close these days, it does all come down to the magician, not the wand! Granted a well fitted wand is also the best way to go!
This is first video iv watched of you thought you were good so I subscribed to hopfuly see you take these 2 clubs out on the course I would love to see how they perform on the course
I would love to see a comparison between the newest drivers and and ones from 5-6 generations ago like Taylor made R11S or similar. Since some can only afford to change a driver every 5-7 years. That is where many would like to see the comparison and if there is a 20 yard gain from 2012 drivers. They can then upgrade to an M4 when they are on sale at 40% less.
More of this please James, very helpful indeed. If possible it would be great to do this with rival clubs, M5 vs Flash Sub Zero for instance but with the same shaft ideally which I know complicates things somewhat. I think Taylormade have made a mess of their advertising, why have concentrated on ball speed instead of the one thing that will definitely get sales which is distance. I don't know any amateur golfers who talk about their ball speed, why go there????
Still using the M2... finds the fairway, why spend £500 just the sake of a few yards... saying that if one was going free... another great Video James, and defo try them on the course together... maybe with the M2 as well?
At the price of these things I think I'll stay with my M2..... although the price of an M4 is down to half in my area, so maybe upgrade to that but is it gonna make me a better driver of the ball....probably not...only practice and lessons may do that... great video James, always like these with you and Mark
Just picked up an M6 on clearout....all of the testing and reviews I've seen suggest that the difference between M6 and SIM or SIM2 are negligible. To be fair I'm still hitting my G400 just fine....I'm a sucker for a bargain to test things out for myself and see if I can't find one I can be more consistent with. Drivers have been pinned against the max COR for more than 10 years. They have been working with moving the weight inside the head, and toying around with swing weight to help with forgiveness, launch conditions, and eeking out a few extra MPH of clubhead speed. Even with those elements there is a ceiling that probably the clubs are banging their heads off now. When you find one that works for your swing - game that one until the head blows up!!
Great comparison test James. Looks to be an improvement over M4, but the price tag is frightening! Would love to see a head to head pitting the TM drivers against Cobra's new (and cheaper) F9.
M3 vs M5 please..... though as I've just got the M3 I won't be changing as the biggest difference will be what swing I make not which bat I use so I'll be concentrating on improving that through lessons rather than spending £500 on a new driver
I'd like to see the G400 LST versus the M6 tested at 9*, both in house and on the course. I am interested to see what the spin rates are and the overall performance. For that matter, I'd like to see the G400 LST versus any of the new offerings, as it was considered the best driver of 2018 by many, or at the very least, the most wanted. Could use it as a measuring stick for the newer offerings to see if they actually outperform it or is the marketing buzz just hype with the 2019 lineup?
Great Mark. Realize may not always be convenient but a Mid Handicapper comparison relative to your assessment values would cover the whole spectrum of testing. Are the manufacturers standard shaft options for in this case drivers solely based iron byron type technology. Or is there a human factor interface.? Personally feel the manufacturers create these fantastic products for mainly adhoc distribution to the golfer and its now make the most of it, sales figures are priority. No apparent initiative over optimisation of fitting standards assuring you get close to what the product image portrays.?
Not really convinced that anyone would be changing, especially with the price uplift. I can see a lot of people going in to m4 though as a great budget buy.
Almost half of the M4 shots would have been deep In the trees or OB. With one outright mishit at 244 yards. Not sure this makes for a fair comparison. All the pulls left would jump up the ball speed with M4 and the 244 shot would bring the average distance down. I know this has been discussed before but eliminating outright mishits might be something to consider for a true comparison of the capabilities of each club. Always enjoy your content James!
Thanks for the good review. I have an M4 and doubt I will buy the M6 unless someone steals or I lose the M4. Even if that happens there is no guarantee I’ll buy a TaylorMade. I have absolutely no brand loyalty. There are just too many great drivers out there, so many good manufacturers... so many good choices.
Best comparison I've seen yet on these two.. Would love to see them compared to my driver ( Ping G400 LST).. My course is quite tight so it's more about dispersion on off centre hits than distance, but if the TM's have a tighter dispersion on those shots and get a few more yards then I'd consider swapping.. keep up the great work James... :-)
Really good video! There would seem to be a clear difference between the 2 drivers! I’d be interested in seeing how you do with a properly fit M4/M6. I suspect the stock Stiff shafts you used for this test played into the results a bit! Still the test was well worth it! Keep it coming! The one I really want to see is your M3 VS the new M5. Next on the list for me would be TS3 vs M5! I LOVE THIS TIME OF YEAR!!! 😀😀
2017 m1 vs m5. Some people wait 2-3 years before switching drivers. Is there a big enough difference in distance and forgiveness? Also would really like to see a comparison in the new ts3 or ts2 range vs m5 or m6.
Feel like the test would be fairer if you'd hit a few with each then swapped and changed around, as you're gonna be warmed up by the time you get to testing the M6
Great head to head James. Looking forward to the M3 vs M5 head to head! Also can you do the same head to head with the Callaway flash drivers ans last years models. I think this is the only true test of detremining whether the new drivers are better. Thanks
another great video James im currently playing the m4 and love it I wont be changing any time soon how ever would love to see a head to head between the new epic flash vs the original epic driver
Just today traded in my m4 for m6 at American golf , spent about one and a half hour hitting m5 m6 cobra f9 and epic flash , m6 with v2 stiff shaft had my swing speed up from 103 to 108 , 109 , would have picked cobra but ball fading a bit to much to the right
Hi, where did you buy the impact box? I’m building my own simulator room but I don’t know where to find the right projector/impact screen. Thanks! Great video!
Good honest review. I think you could setup up either driver in a fit and the difference would be very small, most increases from the new line seem to be done with higher launch and lower spin, speed wise I think it's very marginal almost not noticeable
Great video. I upgraded my 2016 M1 for an M4 three weeks ago and this video shows I’ve saved myself roughly £300 ! Taylormade’s marketing department are second to none, but I mean “Speed injection in the face to slow it down to the legal limit “??? If it’s now at the legal limit and will never be improved ? Surely the last drivers they’ll ever release then ? 😂
Craig Allan they can still reduce spin, reduce weight, make it more forgiving l, make it look better but yeah it won’t change much you can guarantee that
Cornwall1888 Not according to their latest marketing propaganda. I believe they are now at the legal “limit” with the speed injection/reduction super space age material injected through the twist face. I have owned every TM driver since the SLDR (and some earlier ones) so consider myself to be very much a fan of the brand, but I just find the marketing laughable. It’s a necessary evil though I suppose. I mean who’d rush out with 500 quid if they said “give us yer money and we might give you seven extra yards”....?
Craig Allan yes, the marketing is ridiculous, especially this time around! However, I think we all know they’ll find ways to squeeze out more performance. They can’t make the face faster supposedly, and yet, I think even that isn’t really true. In all the testing I’ve seen, off center hits are still shorter with the M5 and M6 than center strikes! So they can still find a way to make those hotter, I think!
I can't see how they are supposedly testing every driver head they make, somehow putting the exact amount of resin required to bring it down to the legal limit and then testing it again to make sure it's right. Really? On every single driver?
Love the previous model and current model comparisons. How about for fun comparing the new M6 to a much older Taylormade driver like an R9? Should be huge differences, right or no???
How does it compare to the TS? Good thing about a new driver release, all those folks that have to have the latest and greatest will be selling their old clubs!!
Hi James. Could you please compare the Cobra F9 against the TM6 and Epic Flash when it comes out please? Three forgiving/fast drivers should be interesting. Especially as the F9 has a lower price point.
The general comment seems to be that there is effectively no difference. The one mph ball speed differential , is pretty much in the only significantly "slow" swing result , which fell within the M4 batch ( no. 6). Minus 10 mph amounts to 1 mph overall , and four of the other M4 swing results if repeated instead of the exceptionally poor hit would have tipped the average the other way , i.e. to slightly favour the M4. Further , the fastest outright speed (and distance) was achieved by the M4 - (shot 7) All in all there seems hardly anything in it. Very enjoyable and informative test and probably the best that could be done in a reasonably compact assessment. Thanks very much.
Good comparison thumbs up. How about a test on drivers and 3 woods say 5 years old there must be a ton out there due to the constant upgrades and possibly at a price i feel comfortable paying, say around the $200.00 mark or lower. I currently play a 909 Titliest D3 which I like cheers
On the basis most people don't change their driver every year, better to see a comparison on say a 2/3 year basis, although totally understand why you compare with last year's model.
Yes, on the course, then can hear them better as well. I have a 2016 M2, and am thinking about that M6. But over $500 dollars for it? Not sure about that one.
Hi James, great content. I'd be interested to see the difference on course but I'd be much more interested in a comparison between the M6 and a 1st/2nd generation M1/M2. I know you saw 7 yards difference in todays' video but just how much difference is there over the past 4 years?
Great review James , I think most people don't upgrade everytime there's a new club out , although I'm sure a few minority do . But surely it is your golf swing that makes the most difference, is 7 yards a big deal , I think not, all the marketing and super fancy names that all the club manufacturers use year on year for there technology I find a turn off and bores me and really is pushing me away from the game rather than attracting me to it. Am I alone with this though🤔. Keep up the good work.
Coming from baseball to golf, I see way too many people focus on their clubs to get distance and ball speed and I just find it ridiculous. Workout, get stronger in a rotational setting and solidify your form and mechanics. You’ll gain way more for way less money.
I don’t buy into the marketing guff, but do switch drivers at least once a year because I am a sucker for good looking drivers and this is right up there
I think weren’t properly warmed up with shots with M4 hence the inconsistency?? I’ve got M4 and will be using that for 2019 and would not be upgrading 👍
Excellent comparison James, I would love to see your 'average handicap golfer' hit the M6 with each Atmos shaft option, I.e. Orange v Black (both regular and set to STD loft. Regards, RobB.
Good video James, do you have access to an SLDR in the same loft as an m5 you can test? I keep going back to my sldr year after year... wonder if it’s just because the head is so much heavier than all their new ones
Always love your videos and I try to watch every one of them. I like watching the driver comparisons, even if it's just the newest club compared to your "normal" shots. The numbers for the newest club are useless without a comparison to something. For this test, you were swinging slightly faster with the M6 so your club head speed was 1.2 mph faster. That accounts for probably half of the extra distance. The M6 is still slightly better but if I had an M4 (which I don't), I'm not sure I'd rush out to spend all that money for less than 5 yards more (using the same club head speed). If the dispersion was a lot less, that would certainly make a better case for buying the M6. Sad to say but my shot consistency is crap so I know that all this technology can't fix everything.
Bsleee2000 I agree! I know James and all the RUclipsrs have their own style and format. But James has been around long enough now, I wonder if it would benefit him to show his “averages” like Rick Shiels does when he looks at new drivers?
@@Tielc Yes I agree that it would be great for James to show the results against his "averages". Rick Shiels recent example comparing the M3, M4, M5 & M6 against his averages was very helpful. I'd also like to see more tests with club head speeds below 100mph. I'm definitely in that category. I wonder how much extra distance (if any) would be seen with these new drivers compared to drivers release in the last 1-3 years.
James you need to alternate back and forth between the two drivers. Hitting each one all at the same time doesn't give a reliable test. Should have hit in groups of five shots 2-3 times with each club.
Congrats on swinging the M6 faster. If I gained 7 yards per every new Taylormade driver introduction I would be hitting 300 Yrds average by now. Looks almost real.
My strike causes 50 yards difference in distance, that’s a lot more than any £500 driver can achieve. Like I’ve said before I’ll keep my m4 for a while

Love your videos James but not a fan of indoor tests especially with no face data to show strike.......its on the course where it counts
I’ll be doing both Andy. You’ll forgive me for not spending another 15k on more equipment when what we have here is pretty useful. Lol
@@JamesRobinsonGolf wasn't a critique James so no offence intended....
Andy Bibby yeah none taken at all mate just letting you know lol
Great comparison test James. Looks to be an improvement over M4, but the price tag is frightening! Would love to see a head to head pitting the TM drivers against Cobra's new (and cheaper) F9.
M3 vs M5 please..... though as I've just got the M3 I won't be changing as the biggest difference will be what swing I make not which bat I use so I'll be concentrating on improving that through lessons rather than spending £500 on a new driver
good test. it would be interesting to see if different shafts affect ball speed.
Good test! I would like to see tests comparing older equipment to the newest stuff, maybe even throw in some really old drivers.
I can see that too mate
£180 in American golf
I'm in the hunt for a new driver and am treating myself to a brand new one this year
I need to fix a sudden slice that's crept into my game....even with my driver set to draw..!!!!
Any chance you could get the mid handicap tester video of this? Would like to see the difference between your average joe hittign both
Almost half of the M4 shots would have been deep In the trees or OB.
How about the M3 v M5, both being adjustable you could see if the new weighting system is better than the old weighting system.
More than welcome thanks mate. I’m the same. Have NO IDEA what driver to use
Just crack the face of your m4 and taylormade will send you a brand new m6, I just got mine and love it!
F9 Vs M5 Vs Flash SZ Vs TS3 GOGOGOGOGO!!
Thanks Mike :)
Can you please to the comparison test of the M4 vs. M6 on the course
Could you do a comparison on the original M2 vs M6 to see what the difference is between original & new
Really good video!
Another great test, truth about all these drivers has to be personal choice, fitting is so important
Feel like the test would be fairer if you'd hit a few with each then swapped and changed around, as you're gonna be warmed up by the time you get to testing the M6
Benross Evolution R great club I think for under £200, could you test one James????
That would be great to test to see the difference.
The guys at MIA SPORTS did it all mate
Good honest review. I think you could setup up either driver in a fit and the difference would be very small, most increases from the new line seem to be done with higher launch and lower spin, speed wise I think it's very marginal almost not noticeable
I would like to see the F9 vs. the Ltd Pro, as that is the driver I game and want to know if it's worth upgrading.
I would like to see you test the TS2/3 VS M5/M6. Then the Epic Flash/SubZero too.
Would love to see the difference between the Titleist 917 D2 VS TS2.
Ashley Jukes But that’s what marketing are telling all of us gullibles/consumers 🤔
Any chance on seeing mark test the m5 vs m6 both dryball data and on course testing please.
Love the previous model and current model comparisons. How about for fun comparing the new M6 to a much older Taylormade driver like an R9? Should be huge differences, right or no???
I would like to see you test out # 5 Woods like the Ping G 410 in the S.F. T. or how about the Taylormade M 6 Driver in the D version?????
How does it compare to the TS? Good thing about a new driver release, all those folks that have to have the latest and greatest will be selling their old clubs!!
quite scientific testing.like it. please continue!
Hi James. Could you please compare the Cobra F9 against the TM6 and Epic Flash when it comes out please? Three forgiving/fast drivers should be interesting. Especially as the F9 has a lower price point.
Yes mate take them to the course. Looking forward to you testing the new Ping G 410. Cheers !
Further , the fastest outright speed (and distance) was achieved by the M4 - (shot 7)
All in all there seems hardly anything in it.
I want to see the new Cobra F9 versus the King Cobra Ti Oversize titanium driver from over 20 years ago
Would be keen to see your numbers on gc2/quad James..swing speeds etc as your ball speeds indicate your shots should be going farther
Great test James honest as always how about a head to head with the Flash!
Yes, on the course, then can hear them better as well. I have a 2016 M2, and am thinking about that M6. But over $500 dollars for it? Not sure about that one.
I know this is an old post but wondering about more info on dispersion between the two club.Which is more accurate ?
How about r15 vs the m5 , m6
Coming from baseball to golf, I see way too many people focus on their clubs to get distance and ball speed and I just find it ridiculous. Workout, get stronger in a rotational setting and solidify your form and mechanics. You’ll gain way more for way less money.
I don’t buy into the marketing guff, but do switch drivers at least once a year because I am a sucker for good looking drivers and this is right up there
would like to see you test the Wilson Driver ( Cortex )
Me too mate :)
Like the comparison. Any chance to do similar against budget drivers such as Benross and Tour Edge to see if it's worth paying the extra?
Disagree totally. Sorry.
Congrats on swinging the M6 faster. If I gained 7 yards per every new Taylormade driver introduction I would be hitting 300 Yrds average by now. Looks almost real.
