I share my spontaneous approach to life on the canals and how it mirrors the way I tackle new projects.
I also share behind-the-scenes stories about the production of my TV show, including meticulous planning despite my preference for spontaneity!
Great to see you back on the telly. I love your no nonsense, down to earth approach to life on the water, and in general.
Every programme you do just makes my shoulders drop, and all the tension of this mad hurly burly world we all live in, simply disappears! Roll on the next series!! And keep on “Cranking” 😊

Really enjoyed the new Canal Boat Diaries series. The longer format is such a bonus. Must admit we cheat and record it, (yes, some people do still do that), and skip the ads. Don't want to be lulled into a very calm and relaxed state and then have a shouty loud ad waking us up now do we😊. Here's an idea. When you have your marina. Single lane bowling alley on a hollowed out narrow boat. What could possibly go wrong😂

I only discovered Canal Boat Diaries when Series 5 aired and have now watched the first 3 series.
Many of the locations are stunning, but I'm not sure this life would be for me!
It is a unique way of living. Ideal for people on the run 😀

just been watching you on the TV going through the midlands, many places where I grew up and explored when i was young
we used to use the tow paths to explore and move around and get in to trouble!
50 years ago there weren't any boats on the canals - mostly old bikes and shopping trolleys
I held my breath while you went through Brum that you didn't get mugged or hijacked!
I love your program and watch it with google earth on my laptop trying to follow your journey
I've found an overlay of the UK canals but it is incomplete, perhaps you could invest in a gps unit and record your travels and help update it!

I have loved watching you on my tablet, but its great to see you back on the big screen (repeated now on "Y"). Over the years i covered a fair chunk of the waterways, but it always looks dicferent if you go in the reverse direction.

Robbie I've been watching your series on tv and it's brilliant. I been away from work for a few months now due to illness and I am eager to get on the tow paths on my bike and get my fitness back. Love your guitar work it soothes the mind.

Enjoying your latest series, be nice a little more detail on your boat running and maintenance, you had low oil pressure and a leak, but never said why or how you fixed it, is their a help line for lock gate problems, such as the one that was stuck, what if you couldn’t have freed it ?, thanks.

I had a talk all planned out that I was going to give to my local Samaritans. I was giving this talk with two others and the plan said that we would introduce ourselves first before sharing our individual stories. The third person introduced themselves and they were meant to hand back to me but didn't. They launched straight into their piece. I learnt that day that plans must be flexible and not ridged. Ridged plans are only for construction, not for people. :)

I loved the recent Tv episodes. My husband and I often went through Birmingham and always wondered what the little offshoots would be like and promised ourselves we would do them ‘one day’. Alas that day never came and he died many years since. I like the competent way you handle Naughty Lass. I cannot watch programmes where boats are handled badly. Bob and I were always amazed at couples allocating the steering to the male half and lock working to the ‘little woman’. Steering is an art but can be learnt, whereas some locks or swing bridges are absolute beasts. Not that I didn’t do the odd lock for fun - well I think it’s fun. My favourite memories are of that first coffee of the day sitting outside listing to the natural world waking up and beginning its day too.
Robbie just a quick note to say love the podcast and absolutely love the tv series, but I really want to invest in a pair of long rubber gloves for your for every time you have to clear your propeller, because from experience if your pulling out t-shirts and long johns then no doubt that that person has been caught short 😂
I've always found that people with life-plans and schedules, or even those just trying to stick within the confines of "the right thing to do" or "what people expect of me", are always aggrieved and disappointed.
