What Really Goes On Inside The Grounded Planes and Engineering?

  • With so many aircraft being grounded during the COVID pandemic, in this video I discover the answer to how do airlines store and re-activate airplanes? I asked Etihad Engineering about the work required to store an airplane, protect the plane from heat, humidity, sand and dust; I also inquired into the processes involved in bringing a stored plane back to service.
    Then I took a tour of the Etihad Engineering hangar, observing how the maintenance is carried out. A lot of behind-the-scenes repair and maintenance work goes on in the hangar. Finally, I visited the airline workshop; to see how they manufacture and repair seat covers, engine covers, toilet doors and bulkhead panels. A lot of work is carried out to make sure the planes are well maintained.
    I asked a few questions on the future outlook of aviation engineering and the entry requirements for a person looking to get into aviation engineering.
    Finally, I would like to thank all the hard-working ground staff and engineers during the pandemic; their work didn't slow down (it actually increased) making sure that aviation remains safe and that standards are being maintained.
    You can find out more about Etihad Engineering on www.etihadengi... and follow their latest updates on LinkedIn at bit.ly/EYEngLin...

    It's so interesting to note that how innovative Sam has been getting with his content even in these uncertain times!
    Unravelling the nittie-gritties of an aircraft and a million small elements that go into a making of an aircraft, the finer aspects that we often tend to overlook while flying normally otherwise!
    Thanks for the amaze coverage in this video!

      No matter how good they wrap the plane something will happen. They’re made to use.

    • @psoon04286
      @psoon04286 3 года назад +2

      You are perfectly correct. The detail inspections called for in these 'return to service' checks can often lead to findings that will require more work, and or replacement of very expensive parts. The covering/blanking of every orifice on the airplane is carried out to prevent birds and insects from building nest in them so after removing the covers we have to check very closely and purge the openings and then function the systems to make sure that they operate normally.
      There are different kinds of fluids in the plane that needs checking and maybe replacement too, and that includes the fuel in the tank. Fuel tanks are never left empty and dry as this will lead to deterioration of the sealants that lined the insides of the tank. Thats almost wing tip to tip!
