KwikWay Master Head Shop. A machine for doing valve jobs.

- This is a Kwik Way seat and guide machine. At one time, these air float fixture machines were the standard in valve jobs, seat and guide repairs and modifications. There are many brands and models that function in similar manor and I believe this to be one of the last models in this configuration. This video started out to hopefully answer a question for PowerPlay Engines, whom is a channel subscriber and always has a positive comment to add. But got stretched out into a whole lengthy video of me yapping away, as usual. The picture in the thumbnail is the actual auction pic from which this machine was purchased from, so I felt it was perfect to present the video with. Enjoy!
Love it ..kwikway has been industry standard for years .the bed is ridgid ..heavy duty ....awesome!!!
Good video presentation. 👍
Nice machine.
I really like your hold down anchors you made.
Very nice.
I will make me some.
Great idea.
I have a PH6000DA, so principles are the same set up.
I tend to work through the cradle.
But there are exceptions.
Thanks for the walk through.
Take care, Ed.
Thanks Ed. I like to try and keep the heads up high during valve jobs so I can easily measure the install heights as I go.
@@whiplashmachine Yes, I see that Jay. Great idea.
Your name is Jay, correct?
@@edsmachine93 yup, Jay's the name👍 I just spent a moment and rewatched the video and see I had already mentioned how and why I set up certain ops the way I do. Kinda forgot what the video was all about. Thanks for watching🍻
Thank you for the video, I love the idea, and am copying it!!! I will post a response to show the new-to-me machine I am modifying.
You're welcome and looking forward to the upload.

Brother you keep banngin with that machine...I'm still using a Van Norman PH2000 and my engines are still kickin ass! yeah a Serdi is nice but we can still get the same results with older machines...js
Reminds me of a Winona Van Norman L250.
That is ONE cool machine. Now I am interested is how much different / better a Serdi machine is. Thanks for the video. ---Doozer
I saw a shop that made a engine block fixture for there van norman ph2000. They use the BHJ lifters true mount and bore the lifter holes out for bigger lifter install.
Turning creativity into $$$ I like it.
that must be my pal Ron Flood at Cedar Machine Service in MN. He uses a ph2000 for the BHJ lifter Tru. Find Cedar Machine on FB
@@scotts439 It is ceader machine service. I had him send me a pic of it last week.
@@nextgen1939 yes Ron at Cedar Machine... I did same thing, video coming in a sec.

I have never thought to mount my heads upside-down on my PH6000DA but it looks like the seats are easier to get to.
Excelent
Cool video. I also checked out the powerplay engine channel. I worked in a engine machine shop almost 30 years ago rebuilding cylinder heads. I’d like to get a seat and guide machine in my home shop. Can the Headshop machine newer aluminum heads such as Subaru? Thanks for the info you post
Yea, it could do them with caution. These machines and small guides/pilots don't mix very well, but can do them. I work on mostly 11/32" and 3/8" valved engines. So it does a pretty good job on them. Whenever I do get involved with something using smaller valves I actually send them to my neighboring automotive machine shop. Their Serdi with floating head (which I personaly have 6 years run time on) is far superior and simpler to do a valve job on. I do intend on getting one but it takes time to save up for these machines and I have other machines on the wish list I want first. So 'til then, I'll just send out the small valve stuff which is few and far between for me anyhow.
@@whiplashmachine hello, what you take for that machine
What kind of concentricity do you get with the master HS? I have an old model 019 and im gonna get the ball drive 3d type tooling even though i know it wont do a good job. I do have an old sioux valve grinder complete with the cabinet and stone setup for touching up the seats. The 019 has the air locks and they are very problematic when trying to center up. What locks the rollover fixture to the bed on the master HS?
That’s an 046, I have one as well. I do a lot of 6 cylinder work so I have the table flipped over because the heads are too long fit in between the table.
Do you have any issues with chatter with your 3 angle cutter? I find sometimes it works perfectly and other times it’s not cooperative and I have to touch up on the grinder.
Occasionally I get some chatter, usually from a heavy throat cut. I just grind them out also. Certainly not a Serdi machine lol. I was trained on a KwikWay and ran it for about 4 years. I went back into machining for a bunch of years and ended up back in an engine shop for a few years. They had a Serdi Millenium. Nice machine. Got used to it quick and enjoyed it.
Do you prefer stones or carbide cutters for seat work?
I prefer the multi angle carbide inserts and are what I use mostly. Some seats just need a touch and a quick grind is more than adequate.
I work on atvs mostly, Would a machine like thay work for me? Lmk if you know where i can find one
Yes, it would. But it does struggle with small diameter guides and not quite an ideal machine them.
