Cybercar is the one we need. Smaller megacast hatchback with the Cybertruck outside material and LFP with 500km range. ;)
Wont happen unfortunately
Can't believe I've been watching you jealous for 5-6 years, and now I have MYP. Wild ride! Thanks for so many videos!
Always good to hear your ramblings.
I agree with those saying mega casting for huge cost savings and also a huge reduction in parts, which the Model 3 is going to through now with Project Highland. Model 2/A will likely be a hatch form factor, similar to a VW Polo, maybe come in a two door for cost savings. So, to save costs the back seats are not going to be comfortable for adults. I also predict we'll see 350km range to save battery cost. Also, RWD as you stated for a useable frunk.
with megacasting, we need a next step - mega recycling. Because the bodies would not be repairable(
17:37 who needs trailers when you have the hilux banana truck mafia
"Model 2" whould be hatchback and Model 3 from Germany (if it's still planned) should be station wagon IMO. It would be perfect for Europe!
Björn nice to hear from you! I Hope they make a Golf(ish) formed Model in the same size!
Hope they keep it basic, so it has the chance to be the new Baseline for cars! Like Golfclass but in EV it will be Model2-class.
Model 2 is a good name if the want the Acronyms 2 S3XY (too Sexy )
My guess: It will be a bit shorter then M3, but a bit higher for the head room, and indeed with a hatchback with a good frunk. Octovalve and HP for sure, LFP battery of approx 50-55 Kwh, maybe even a 45kWh battery for the city dwellers. No electric seats, no electric lift-gate but similar simple interior then in M3.
And for First deliveries... I think Second half of 2024, as Tesla would need it to keep growing the numbers.
I think production setup should be easier and it can run in mixed line with M3/MY in the same factories.
Tow hitch is a necessity, but can be limited to 750kg as it will be mostly used for bicycles or very small trailers.
It has to be sizewise like a VW Golf - Ford Focus, Toyota Corolla....
That is a huge market, especially when they make the care a little bit like an SUV, then it can compete in 2 categories.
I suspect it'll be a small crossover because that's what sells these days. A Model Y is about 4.75m so something around 4.4m or so might work... something sized and priced to compete with the Atto 3/ZS EV/Kona/Niro maybe?
Although it's Tesla so it'll be three or four years between announcement and vehicles being delivered.
@20:13 Yes Vanja is from Zagreb Croatia ev Clinic
Eliminating the front motor will not only increase cargo space and enable shorter length, it also will allow Tesla to offer a tighter turning radius. My Model Y’s huge turning radius makes it awkward to maneuver in tight spaces.
When Tesla say 25k, this is *before sales taxes*. So in most parts of the world this will cost 30k plus for the buyer. There are already good long range BEVs priced below this (e.g. MG4 LR), so Tesla will be behind the curve on value. Main USP will be supercharger network.
and software. Chinses software is still crappy.
Super charger network is already opening for everyone. Even at low costs for frequent travelers with subscription.
Yes there are some Chinese cars in 30K range which probably is what a model 2/A Tesla will cost after tax and transport. But honestly watch Björns reviews, I think they are quite crappy compared to Tesla. Not in battery size or charge speed. But definitely in efficiency, software + tech hardware (esp driver assists/ AP), user friendly “western” interior and Ui design, appealing outer body design (like something that was not bought of Alibaba), not having all the needless bings and bongs, not a boat like suspension etc. Reliability long term is also questionable. It was a problem with early Teslas it’s quite ok now. Chinese cars I’m not so sure. What will the resell value be after 5 years compared to a Model A? Compare a equally expensive Dacia and VW and you know enough.
@@davidbelecci6970 Must have watched an other Björn that said the mg4 felt like a i4 to drive, and was an awesome car🤔
@@Lucas-wp2ph But he also thought the software was crappy and buggy as hell…
With no front motor, that would leave room for the battery pack to extend more to the front. With LFP batteries, slight intrusion to the front crumble zone would probably be OK due to lower fire risk.
Single casting full body, structure battery, 2 door hatch back.
Smaller battery saves cost, saves weight, increases range. 40-45Kw, my tip.
I also think that it could be named Tesla Model A because of SEXY C(A)RS and it has to have a good turning radius around 10m or less because that’s a real problem for smaller older countries and parking in cities.
Batterywise i think 60-66kWh LFP will be the maximum they could fit in a smaller wheelbase of Model 3/Y
Also rear wheel drive only makes totally sense to reduce front overhang for better parking again and allow a good rear trunk space
I think it could be a slightly raised hatchback, and structural battery, but maybe 40-50kWh. Not sure they will announce it on March 1st though… maybe they’ll announce a new model 3 Megacast, structural battery… maybe a little cheaper?
It has to be ID3, Kona, Megane, Smart#1… killer. 4.2m long, 400+ km range
100% agree,
longer than 4.2 makes no sense, than you just get the 3 or Y
I agree. And they could easily beat them in real world range with their small 60 kWh battery if they manage to improve efficiency even further. Would definitely be my next car.
@@verboseEV 4.2 is too short 4.7 si too long 4.45 is perfect
i think they will ho for 50kWh LFP and a real consumption of 110-120Wh/km because Elon does not want any Tesla to go below 250mi/400km. and less power with RWD only. maybe like 260HP. smaller trunk and frunk and about 30cm shorter than the model 3. but leg room in back not less than model 3.
If they can hit $25k, they’re undercutting mg4 by $5k, id3 by about $15k! That would shake things up SO much! Not sure Vw can make profits if they’re forced to lower prices that much.
VW is already working on a car in that price range. It's called ID.2. But competition is good and the consumer benefits from a better prices and features.
@@janfreddy123 yes. And I hope it’s good. My concern is that it will be a lower classification in segment and specs and will be closer to $30k. Hopefully the Urban Rebel and the Renault 5ev will be compelling too.
@@janfreddy123 VW is at the moment too expensive , the E-UP cost 30.000 @ !! I hope the will get it better with the ID2
@@wolf-dieterschulz-engelke8598 Most automakers have used the shortage of parts and electronics in recent years to raise prices.
Therefore the price level is currently very high but this seems to be changing again.
ID3 is already dead being price almost like Model 3.
One thing I observes from Tesla is when newer model came out even if it's a cheaper but it will have better technology always. Completely flip from traditional car maker because Tesla will never wait for higher model to update first. They'll go full speed ahead. For example, Octo-valve and new CPU hardware was introduces in Model Y,3 first before S,X.
I hope “Model A” will be short practical hatchback (like a Golf or smaller). It has to be higher than Model 3
Thailand would be a great place to produce EVs.
The Thai government needs to offer some tax incentives for EV production in Thailand.
70% of Australian cars have a tow bar, I am waiting for mine with a 2000$ price for my mod Y
To keep costs down Model A or 2 will be single or double casting body, hatchback, LFP cell-to-pack battery architecture. I have no doubt they'll vastly simplify electronics architecture and peripheral parts and automate assembly as much as possible. They might employ things like factory film wrap instead of paint, polycarbonate body panels. If they keep the weight of the car less than 1100 kg, it could have 500km range on 45-50 kwh battery.
Björn is so cool - he has three "halfs" :-)
Interesting thoughts about the “Model A.” With a smaller, lighter, very high volume car, Tesla could downsize the motor, inverter, and drive gears. It likely will be a fresh design with latest technology; probably a bit more efficient as well. Tesla has a European design team and a Chinese one. They will make two versions off the same platform, one from each team.
Considering how uncommon Mercedes-Benz cars is in Thailand, driving an EQS there must feel like driving around in Bigfoot :)
Tow hitch good point, no tow hitch = no sale for me. I think 50kwh so it doesnt compete with the model3 and the highest efficiency yet.
You can't campare non-removable smartphone batteries to non-swappable EV batteries. The phone makers knew they could make more money by not allowing people to no longer swap phone batteries. People tend to spend extra money to get a new phone instead of getting the battery replaced by service. It's a complete environmental waste and a waste of resources. The companies claim it keeps the manufacturing of costs down by sealing the battery in the phone. Not sure I believe that. Perhaps it's for waterproofing.
2 Models - A smaller sedan and a small SUV hatchback. Would make sense to have both to cover the large USA Sedan market and the large crossover European/other market. Both based on the same Gen 3 platform sharing almost all components. Maybe call them Model 2 and Model 4.
Sofar the CCP is not allowing Tesla to build the expansion at Shanghai to make that car. They say because of security concerns with Starlink. It could be to delay competition for Chinese automakers like BYD and MG in the lower price segment.
I'd like to see a BMW i3 type of car. Small enough for cities, but practical. Maybe unusual door openings like the model x (unlikely!) or the i3 itself. Tow hitch, yes but i suspect it'll be for light duties like bike carrier or storage box?
I think you are on the rigth way, but not compleks doors like the X, maybe a slide door for small parking space. minmum 750 kg towhitch.
@@alb9472 An actual towing ability would be a bonus, especially if the vehicle is capable of longer distances. I.e. a town car that you can use for longer trips too, then yes. But there may be structural limitations if the car is small
I think if they are smart they will make a small crosover it's what most people buy theses days and I hope that it looks way diffrent that all the rest of the Tesla line of cars.
Hopefully they stick to form follows function aerodynamic design. We got enough of that SUV and Crossover rubbish already. Something like a 4 wheel 4 seater Aptera.
The baby Tesla is currently called "Tesla Model Q" even some want call it Model 2 or otherwise. We'll see it this year. Wait for it.
I think it will be a shrinked model y, very shrinked. Around 4.4meters with that hatch.
How about vehicle 2 load?
Model A should be shooting brake style for maximum space
Doesn't a small car need the best access to the rear, via a hatchback?
other cars of that size has it ....not having it would be a disadvantage
A smaller model 3 hatchback version without the glass roof would be great. LFP type batteries are not ideal if you don't have the option of installing a home charger.
Elon just spoke about production capacity being blown after the recent price cuts. This suggests higher demand than they are able to supply, so no immediate reason to believe a Model A to be incoming. A price cut on existing models seems to have done the trick.
I hope Tesla will release a smaller model than the Model 3. Because right now we have a 2015 VW Polo that fits perfectly in the garage. A Model 3 is already way too big for me and my wife and we don't need the space. A Tesla with a length of 4.20 m and a width of 1.80 m with 350 hp and fast charging with 200 kW? Tesla shut up and take my money
likewise the 35k M3
the 25k M2, will actually start from 30k at launch, and 35k a year later. +VAT
Elon said it would be more likely $20k Tesla compact car :-) crossover hatchback would sell awesome
I really hope it would be a RWD! Might be a bit more fun to drive while the ESP etc. keeps people from killing themselves. But the bigger benefit would be a small turning circle, which would make sense for a car that is mostly used in cities, especially in Europe.
I assume they could easily tackle ID.3, Kona and alike with a compact car (about 4.2 meters long) while keeping or even improving their benefits. They could outdo the champ in this category which might still be Hyundai Kona. At least when it comes to efficiency and real world range. Could easily beat it if they get consumption down to 10kWh with the small SR+ 60 kWh battery.
Need tow hitch only for 2 ebikes 👍
Well they said they are working on the robotaxi... from my pov it makes more sense that the robotaxi would be something the size of a smart or citroen ami... very convenient for urban travel... making a proper hatchback now would probably place it too close to the m3... who knows... they probably have constraints that we have no idea about right now
About the size of Honda Fit, VW Rabbit.
No chance they'll use a trunk. A sedan would not sell double all their other cars like Elon has said. Honda Jazz is a good comparison. And many other hatchbacks have rear headroom.
Because whatever Elon says comes true, on time! 😀
@@wschnitzler What he says comes true. That's the much more important part. The goal is accomplished. That pushes progress and motivates everyone else to alsp move forward. Everyone benefits. His accomplishment is always more when it comes out than people imagine.
@@wschnitzler Choose any timeline you want. Name a person who has accomplished more.
You can name yourself, possibly. You should offer proofs though.
A MG 4-ish with Tesla magic: autopilot, octo-valve and mega casting. For me can be as simple as that! 😁
That would be so cool if tesla makes budget 25k model. I just wonder what kind of sacrifices they would have to make. Would the car be super small with very small battery? I wouldn't mind it being only offered as RWD. As long as it has at least 250 horsepower, maybe even 300+ ?
Dear Bjørn. Feel free to watch Henry Ford 1913 project “Highland.” Then you will know what Elon is up to with his platform 3. Elon calls the new Tesla production project Highland as well. Henry built a new factory, and scaled up production, and lowered the price of Model T from 800$ to 250$. Imagine the demand for the new 20-25K$ compact (Golf size)Tesla, made on platform 3, with specs like M3 or better, will be? Scaling up in a mindblowing way, at half costs, Elon says.
My assumption is model A with a casted undercarriage, no paint cold rolled steel if they make the cybertruck well. No paint will keep margins high. Single motor, single screen. They will make the model 3 and Y with the s and x app to play games. There would also be a fly by wire system for further weight reduction.
Model 2 is rumoured to be a 3 wheeler with a single headlamp. No controls just a bluetooth link to your own mobile phone which clips in to a handy holder in the middle of the dash. Single piece casting for the bottom. 22kWh battery and range of over 100 miles.
I'm pretty sure it will take as much as possible from the MG4 less the appearance.
nope, MG tech is not a benchmark for Tesla. it is the other way round :)
Maybe they’ll be two versions, an id3 sized hatch and an suv taller version. Or they’ll do the polestar idea of calling it suv but it’s barely taller.
There's no need for FWD car because there's traction Control so RWD would be the best like iD3
Cory Steuben, from Munro associates states it wouldn't make financial sense for Tesla to make a "compact". I think Tesla will bring out a very basic Model 3, mega casting is coming for Model 3 so will bring down cost, perhaps a single motor, smaller battery, same hardware as now but with basic software, then customers can buy software as an extra
Hard to design a sub-4.5 m hatcback EV with drag coefficient similar to M3. The only one I know is the good old Ioniq. Maybe not too bad a have a Ioniq like car with Tesla technology....
A small Tesla hatchback like a Bolt would be awesome that would interest a huge amount of buyers like me who want a smaller segment Tesla
With Model 2 it will make it 2SEXY.
I am expecting a small hatchback similar to an MG4 with a smallish battery with 200-250 mile range. I don't think Tesla will go too small because I think that might compromise on safety.
If it is really going to be $25.000 they should call it Model T, after the Ford Model T that, thanks to its affordability, replaced the horse.
Model A has to be 4 M long at max, due to indian regulations, which has higher taxes for vehicles longer than 4 M
Australians love to tow too. Or at least they feel they must have a towbar
I honestly am not terribly interested in Tesla but I'll say whatever they decide to make will likely be delayed years so I don't even see a point in talking about it until it actually comes out.
Within 5 years brands will come with €20-25k ev with 35-40 kWh sodium-ion battery and AC charger as option. Indeed a base model with DC charging only.
AC charger will always be standard.
Nice Brain Dead reference 😂
Die they make an ID3 competitor for 4-6k less (compared to a fully loaded ID3) and delivery under 15 months is really game over, cause than they have the whole market covered.
A golf sized car around 4.3m long. Hopefully 50kwh battery and stripped of silly stuff like self driving. 0-60mph in around 7s.
Model A (2) …. A cross between classic Ionic & M3. 🎉
What is the average price for cars in Thailand...??
Most popular passenger cars are sub-compacts cost 600,000-700,000 Baht.
A sexy semi cybertruck! :)
SEXY CARS or maybe SEXY CARZ?
The SemiTruck or Artic could be a second S or maybe an A.
The X is a large crossover, the Y is midsize crossover, so maybe small crossover could be Model Z ?
I personally don't think irmt will be an smaller M3 style but an smaller MY style, maybe a bit more hatchback.
This will sell like hot cakes in Europe, America and Asia.
I am confident that the cheap tesla will be produced no more than 12 months after its reveal. They can't afford to take years to produce it after the reveal because it will destroy demand for the 3/Y. There's was reports of a giant single casting machine shipping to China for tesla, I think they are already building the line for it in china.
I'll be in the nursing home before Tesla makes a car like that.
Remembering that Model 3 was supposed to be called E, but Mercedes Benz had copyrighted it...
No, it was Ford:
www.autonews.com/automakers-suppliers/ford-calls-new-ev-unit-model-e-name-it-stopped-tesla-using-eight-years-ago
Pretty sure Ford has rights to Model A.
That was the Model T. Tesla calls the baby Tesla "Model Q" as far as we know.
@@mirkonaumann1417
Ford also made a Model A as well in the early 1900s.
During a shareholder meeting last year, Musk said there would be no Model 2 because they can barely keep up with the demand for the current line-up. He could be lying.
I would be surprised if that cheaper tesla will just be cheap mockup and any feature you get, you pay to add on. One pedal drive, heated seats, everything will be an add on including fast charging.
Anything but a hatchback would be a failure, but no-one expects a glass roof at that price point. The obvious cost saving is FSD, who is going to pay half the price of the car again? Drop that extra hardware and downgrade the computer saves you a fortune.
Agree. Lanekeep assist and adaptive cruise control is enough.
Regular "autopilot" requires the same sensors and cameras as the "full self-driving" system. It might require less computing power but the potential savings that the downscaling of the processing unit might introduce are, in my opinion, negligible.
I suspect that the Tesla $25k car won't be $25k but quite a bit more.
Elon please make a $25K car (or even cheaper), small hatchback about 4.2m long, a 40 - 50kwh battery and very efficient.. you can do it!
Ford has the "model A" so Tesla cant use it but 2s3xy is possible. Pay attention to 1st March. Xover seems most likely as its what ppl want so a small "Y".
My thought is the 2 or A, or whatever, will be built only in Shanghai, and will not be exported to North America.
Teslabørn: Regarding back in the days when you could buy a new battery for your Nokia or Android cell phone. Today all cell phone companies have adapted to the new toxic norm introduced by Apple. The concept is based on planned obsolescence. "Planned obsolescence describes the practice of designing products to break quickly or become obsolete in the short to mid-term. The general idea behind this is to encourage sales of new products and upgrades, a practice that has been banned in some countries."
Ford already owns the Model A name. Tesla got in trouble once with Ford by trying to use the Model E name. That's why they are named Model 3 now.
My guess is it will be a competitor to Nissan Leaf
Tesla makes a hatchback? Nah, it’s not necessary, model3 is just enough, considering 3 has no ass.
Copy classic Ioniq style, hatchback and very efficient :)
Not a probelm to change battery in a iPhone. You send it it.
Connecting The Dots suggested part of the cost cutting could be getting rid of hydraulics in steering and brakes.
Electric power steering without a hydraulic pump is standard nowadays. Hydraulic brakes for smaller cars are dirt cheap already, I don't see much potential there.

Rear wheel drive limits sales in cold country. I really hope it is at least front wheel drive.

Ice
@@doktordok7517 What about ice? Why would that be issue for rwb?
Personally I have driven many rwd, fwd and 4wd card on ice and snow. Out of the two 2wd cars rwd will always give you better traction because rear wheels will benefit from weight shift during accelerations and uphills.
This may not happen with teslas, but in my climate, rear wheel drives violenty wipe out going up big icy hills, front wheel drives do not. It is for the same reason that you generally can’t do forward doughnuts/cookies/rosies in a front wheel drive, and you can’t do them in reverse in a rear wheel drive.
@@jaredlarson2810 But isn't that because almost all RWD cars, have the motor in the front, so that the rear axis doesn't have enough weight on them?
Tesla could easily have a much better weight distribution, so it wouldn't be a problem.

Why do you ask?

I think it will be called Model 2. Why did the other TESLA's get their name? It spells out "SEXY". The Model 3 most likely would have been the Model E. But some other car company allready had a model E, so TESLA had to change it to a turned E -> "3". With a model 2 it then would be "2 SEXY" (too SEXY.) Just my bet...
Ford owns the term "Model A" Just like they own "Model E" that is why it is Model 3 and not E. I like "cyber car" myself.
