    3/4 cup Alum Powder
    1 egg
    Scissors
    Push pin or tac
    School Glue
    Paintbrush
    Food Color
    2 plastic or glass cups
    2 cups very hot water
    Bowl or a liquid measuring glass, as shown in the video

    I once forget the egg white in fridge for long i guess
    Then when i remembered about it
    I took it out from fridge but i was surprised when i saw the egg crystalized
    Like when the rock salt it was perfect cube shape
    It was color yellow

    I love how you did this! I will be doing this for my next science project! I would like to do this but find out wat would make the crystals grow bigger things like salt, sugar Alum powder.

    Hello! I am doing his project w my daughter right now for her science project at school. We followed your instructions exactly & our eggs didn’t come out crystallized.. we barely got any Crystal. Can you tell me what we could’ve done wrong?

      Did you use alum? Make sure the alum is completely dissolved in the water or they just sink in the bottom before the eggshells are placed. Hope you try it again. Thanks for watching.

      Yes I believe Borax can be used to make crystals. I've never tried it, but seen good results. Make sure to add enough Borax to saturate the water. Thanks for watching!

    I love all the great comments and made sure to look at them to see how others' were doing. Mainly because I'm doing this for my science fair project and nothing happened to my eggshells. I re-attempted it with more Alum, but still nothing has happened. I'm sorry, but it didn't quite work...

    Hi, great vid! I was wondering two things:
    1) can I use those white pipecleaners to shape my geodes instead of the egg shells? And:
    2) if I use my measuring cup for the Alum soloution, if I wash it out thoroughly, can I reuse the cup again for cooking? I'd to have to throw it out.

      Thanks! Sorry I haven't been able to reply sooner. did you try it with pipe cleaners? I would make sure to wash the container thoroughly in soap and hot water. I try to use separate containers for science experiments though so I don't cross contaminate foods, just to be safe and please make sure to do your own research and be safe. Thanks for waching!

    the picture of the blue shell geode u showed Is a lot more colorful than the result you got. How do I get a more colorful result or was that just the lighting of the room ?

      Alum is highly dangerous to consume, plus I don't think you'd want to eat eggshells.

      Hi yes it can irritate the skin, eyes and respiratory, so be very careful...especially if you have sensitive skin. Good reminder to wear gloves and goggles.

    Aluminum Sulfate...seems to be safe...Just don't get it in your eyes. If you do get it in your eyes--flush with large amounts of water for a long time. Don't let any get in the fish tank.

    I'm doing this for a project, and when I glue the alum to the eggshell and add water, the alum keeps sliding down. The crystals only form at the bottom. How do I fix this?

      You can't, if you use baking soda it will fail so i just recommend using borax or just alum power.

      Rae Lynn cream of tartar will work. Salt does too, but the crystals won't get that big

      I think the crystals need to bond with the calcium in the eggshells, so try to use real eggshells. Thanks for watching!

    How long does it take before u actually see a crystal start to form Bc I’m doing this for my science fair and it’s not working pls help me 😫😫😫

      Hi it should take 12 hours or more. Ours took 15 hours as noted in the video. Make sure to dissolve the alum in water completely. I listed the alum we used in this experiment in the description box of the video. Make sure to get the same one and have a parent help you. Good luck and keep me posted! 😀
