@@AndrewMcFarlane_1 I am not interested in mudslinging. I am trying to understand what you stand for politically. I often see you commenting against anything that looks to change the current economic structure in South Africa. Do you not see the need for a change in trajectory?
@ronm4385 then address the points directly and don't think you can get away from doing the same 1. When was SAs economic growth the highest and why 2. Which socialist systems have beaten free markets at economic growth? If you mention China, then you don't understand that it was only when the CCP adopted free market principles to join the WTO which gave them the growth they have achieved. China depends on western markets to survive. It cannot do so on its own.
@@AndrewMcFarlane_1 1. South Africa's strongest economic growth period was during the Mbeki regime and it peaked at about 4,7 GDP. This is largely because Mbeki ran a tight ship with strict/conservative economic policies. Him and Trevor Manuel practically ticked every box in as far as what the requirements were as set out by IMF as well as other global monetary institutions. The South African economy made for good reading but unfortunately the gains never really tricked down to the average man and women on the streets. Unemployment remained stubbornly high and the foreign investment didn't come, not as much as it was expected anyway. 2. Capitalism/open markets have failed. Look at the USA as well as the UK which is characterised by hyperinflation as well as the ever widening gap between the rich and the poor. The middle class is under severe pressure and in some instances need to have 3 jobs at a time just to stay afloat. Because of the free market system where billionaires pretty much set the agenda we have seen the rise of oligarchy in the USA and it's even going to be worse now with the rise of Trump. I can go on and on but I don't want to make this a tough read for anyone following the thread. The problem with my white compatriots is that they are programmed to see the world in sailors. Programmed to see the world in black and white. They are not prepared to entertain any nuance. If it's white it's good and if it's black is bad. That's how they see the world. Let's look at Cape Town for instance. Cape Town is currently ranked as one of the best cities in the world in many indexes which is a good thing for those who benefit from those sort of things but Cape Town is a very hostile place for those who don't have and I am not just talking about those who live in the fringes of opulence but this is even beginning to affect average white lower middle class as well who have seen the cost of basic things like property and schools rise sharply in Cape Town compared to other parts of South Africa. We have started noticing a trend of average white families leaving Cape Town for smaller Towns not because they want to but because they are basically forced out by unjustifiably high prices. South Africa is a very unique case, we need South African solutions not influenced by permittive thinking much like you have demonstrated in the type of questions you have put forward.
in 2024 elections they used the NHI to gt the BLACK vote... Now they bringing the EXPROPRIATION LAW to regain the black vote... the NHI is still missing... the expropriation law will also remain a dream for many years.. and any land obtained will go to priviledged cadres...
It is not necessary to be ideological or academic about the issue. The ANC, as a dominant party in government, has it's own coterie of superpower handlers outside the country, who use genuine grievances of the poor to position themselves in world geo-politics. They will not hesitate to distabilise the country to achieve that end. Mbongeni Khumalo Author/ Poet/ Translator
I would have believed it if the ANC actually had a track record of uplifting blacks of even the general economy

there are thousands of properties - all kinds - up for sale right now. the gov must go buy those and give them to the people. Very simple.
