Teddy doesn't get the props that he should. Not only is he a hell of a trainer but I have a degree in psychology and his thoughts on boxers and life are right on point.
      Also he's funny and likable.

I really have enjoyed these shows, Cus was certainly an inspirational figure. I'd ask Teddy about Harry Grebb, he never seems to be mentioned and with hardly any film of him is largely unsung but what an amazing record the guy has. I wonder if Cus spoke about him at all and if Teddy knows much about him.

Yep. We need to hear about his reflections on training the great Jose Napolese. And also whether Amato ever spoke about the Liston-Patterson fight -- from what I've read he was totally against the match-up, because he knew how fearsome Liston was. Good to hear Teddy give Liston props for his greatness. His jab is the most hurtful I've seen in any division. No range finders. Every one a bag of bricks in the face.

A lot of People don't know that Cus told Mike about a Jewish Fighter named Arty Diamond who bit a guys ear off & spit it out in Prison. Tyson didn't say that's why he bit Evanders ear but that might've been where the ear bitting idea seed was Planted. The books is a good read for any Boxing Historian. @Mr Boxing context buddy .. We were all horny teens at one time and did dumb shit. You cant condemn a man for the rest of his life for something he did as a teen. Btw he was fighting grown men and being called a god while trying to stay out of prison and surviving Brooklyn NY. Havent you ever been slapped for being too forward? Now if that girl tells her crazy uncle and he pulls a gun on you and threatens your life who is handling it wrong? If a 15 yr old white kid from Catskills does it no one bats a eye and at worst he gets scolded by a parent.

he's been reported to have advised ALI (who solicited it, apparently)to go right after Foreman at the opening bell and land a lead right hand and sting him, as if to ''remind him who you are''.I paraphrased, sorry. when you see that 1st rd., that's what he's trying to do. and he does. but the rope-a-dope was what did it. see 'when we were Kings'.Cus isn't in it, but it won an Oscar for best feature length doc.

Subscribed! Not sure how I came to watch part II first, but I am glad I did. Part II has given me a great intro and insight to possibly the greatest part of that legend, the highly highly impressive (proper man) Sir Teddy Atlas. What an absolute pleasure to listen to a smart, honourable, LOYAL (yes, its a huge word), witty, articulate, ultimate brother and father of any man, who on top of all that has the keenest eye for how to look after your own and recognise how to take down the foundations of your foe.
I always knew mike Tyson had a truly ugly side but my stronger belief is that the people who have fully enriched the public arena should be be hugely rewarded and loved (wasnt it better in the 80s, when you didn’t know anything about their private life?)
As far as I'm concerned, I dont care which bookworm with no fighting bone in his body thinks who is the greatest. Tyson at his prime, is the only UNSTOPPABLE FIGHTER the world has ever seen, that trumps the who's the greatest argument. That legacy would not have stood a chance without Cus and Teddy - FACT.
The podcast is beautifully anchored by Ken who knows when to cut in at the right times and move on to the next anecdote. Ken clearly has traditional respect, patience, humility, and refreshingly (take note whippersnapper) he responds and adds to Teddy's tales and jokes, he feeds the storyteller. This all helps the teacher to flow and keep on track with so many emotional memories flooding back into his mind good, bad, high. low, but Sir Atlas always maintains his old school code of honour, class, character, with a healthy bit of street story telling thrown in.
Thanks also to the chap who introduced the show and is part of this quality production.
What a panacea to the weak limp lefty c0mmun1sssst crap we are all weakly putting up with in the so called modern nerd society of forced not earned not given inclusion.
Strange how so many men who fight are the good people in this world, or is it a necessary part of real life where people need each other and there are responsibilities and consequences?

His issues were all on the psychological side. Cus mainly looked after those and frankly many trainers could have handled the physical and boxing side with such a talent as Tyson.

Thank you, Teddy Atlas, for sharing your deep knowledge. I am taking it all in, soaking it up. You are a tremendous, fine student of Cus D'Amato, and a genius trainer in your own right. It's like you are training the listeners in the fighter's way of life, and in its rich, practically mystical, intellectual history. The wisdom and joy are palpable in these podcasts. Thank you.

Probably the best episode you guys had so far Teddy, you see you don't have to talk only about boxing and stats to make it fun ;)

Here's a question for Teddy : " Do you feel like Cus was almost a second father for you, at times where you seldom saw your father because he was away or busy, and Cus filled up that gap ? "

Definitely enjoyed this, one of the best yet. Really laughed out loud at the hot dog craving story. Teddy has a great way of telling a story. Ken lays back and just adds enough to make it a conversation. Much appreciation for both you guys, and the kid Rob. Priceless entertainment.

The importance of hydration is vastly understated in combat sports. Nearly all fighters cut water weight, and each drop under optimum not only hinders performance but massively increases sensitivity to concussion.
