DarrenWS6 mine had the color matched upper valance so I taped it off and painted the chrome bumper and the lower valance. I’m from PA also north west to be exact about 30 minutes south of Erie

I like that look too, on certain trucks. The low street style ones I like it a lot. But the larger lifted or HD trucks I like the split grill and taller hood a ton.

How do the black plastic grill moldings that you painted stay attached to the grill? Are there some sort of clips the plastic moldings snap into? I bought 2 new moldings and a new grill but I can’t figure out how the plastic moldings stay attached to the grill.
They hook on the grill on the one ends, and then the plastic thin tabs on the back need heat melted. Kind of like a plastic weld job. Really odd design.
Looks good but its really not hard to get a nice wet shine with spray can clear just need to be a lil heavier with it the worst that happens is it runs and you gotta wet sand and buff anyway.
Yes, hoods and grills swap and can be mixed. Bumpers are the same 03 to 06. The 06 hood will fit the 04 grill and the 04 hood can fit the 06 grill but there will be a goofy looking gap.
How did you secure the side grille mouldings to the grille itself? I bought a grille and hood but just need to figure out how to secure the new grille mouldings to the grille
The hood and grills both match eachother. You can use the new grill with the old hood but there will be a gap that looks weird. They both 100% swap over easy.
I'm reading online that you really need a later 2005 or a 2006 or a early 2007 hood to switch the grills out for it to look best.. Did you switch out hoods?
Is the 2006 the same as the 2007 classic? My goal is to turn my 2005 base model into a nice 2007 classic clone. I’ve already changed the steel wheels to 2007 aluminum. I sure like your 2006 grille better than the 2003-2005. Your painting what’s behind the grille is a great idea. I can’t stand seeing what’s there myself.

I did my bottom air deflection I hated the grey color and also did the plastic bumper cover In black looks way better....they have paint for plastic at auto zone or rileys same brand way cheaper than ebay even about 8.50 per can ....

This isn't my video but the grilles are the same side to side. The very top where it lines up with the hood is different. It also wouldn't matter if the grille came off of a 1500, 2500, or 3500. It would fit. But I definitely would recommend getting the 06 hood as well if you get the 06 grille because it does not like up well at all. An 06 grille with an 04 hood would leave you with a pretty decent sized gap. You can Google photos.

Did you have to modify anything for the hood to fit, cause I see people with hood gaps when they do this, but yours looks really clean and flush. I wanna do the same to mine and put a HD bumper
Nope, zero modifications needed. The gaps some folks get is due to not mounting the hood to the hinges properly and adhusting the rubber hood bump stops. Mine was hard to open at first, so I loosened the hinge mounts some and pulled the hood forward, then it was perfectly fine.
Nice job but I actually think it looks better unpainted. Whenever I see those trucks with the silver unpainted Metal behind the grill driving by I think it actually adds a bit of style and looks good!

I tried just putting a grill in mine once, has to have both or you'll have an ugly gap between them and air will get under it and possibly warp your hood.
They have plastic tabs that are to be heated and melted like plastic weld. So they aren't easily removed. I bought 1 new one and just painted the existing one.

Major improvement! I am going to do the same on my '04 2500HD. Question: It looks like you put the 2006 hood on first, and then swapped out the grilles later. Is that true? The 2004 grille will fit under the 2006 hood?
@Hayden Royer the front ends on all the 1999/2006 trucks are interchangeable. You can definitely bolt on the 2006/2007 classic hood and grill onto a 2003/2005 1500 truck.

I have an 07 classic and painted those bars when I bought it. It's just a V6 LS but has one of the last manual transmissions.

Curious..will a light sanding “detexturize” the plastic lower valence? Perhaps a filler type primer underneath may do the trick.
You should color match the front bumper it completes the look! I did it to my 06 and it looks like a whole different truck.

My grill is a regular 2006 one with the painted ends. Not an SS. Just get an 06 year grill and your good to go

You surely can. You will need to put the same year hood on to fit right.

Yes, 07 classic is basically a leftover parts 06 truck. The 2006 hood and grill will bolt directly in place of the 2003/2005 ones.

It wasn't too bad. In the beginning of this video you can see I have the 06 hood on already with the 03/05 grill. Not awful looking.

I got the grill for $100 and the hood for $200. They were both salvage yard finds. I didnt paint the hood, just a good polish and rolled with it.

@@Range-X its an alright ride. Got better after I put fox shocks in it. A better lift would probably ride much nicer.

@@Range-X BDS is by far a much better lift. My 06 Duramax has a 7" BDS in it and it rides incredible on 37"s.

How much did you sand it and when do you sand it? After you put the clear?
I wet sanded lightly between primer and base coats to take down texture, and between each clear layer lightly.

Yes. 2006 hood is 110% bolt on and the grill is 110% clip on no issues.

Salvage yard parts here. The grill came off a 06 light blue duramax and the hood came from an 06 1500.

Is there way to adjust the headlight mounting bracket?
It is fitted and stationary, but I am sure you could perhaps pull it out and add in washers if you needed other angles of adjustment.

The grill and hood were from salvage yard and I had to order one wing piece to paint for the passenger side got it off Amazon.

They have tabs on the back that look like slots, you need to plastic melt them.in basically. It's dumb, but that's how they install.

How did you adjust your hood man? So it can line up good across the grille and on the sides
Leave the 15mm mounting bolts loose and pull it outward as needed, lift the hood carefully and tighten them down.

It will fit physically, but you will have a gap from the upper grill to hood since the 03/05 grill comes up into the hood some.

You can use either grille with the HD hood, but with the standard hood, the HD grille fits but there is a big gap in the top.
Did you use primer or just the paint and clear coat for painting the new grille?
I primered the two pieces and paint and cleared.
Always use primer First. It gives the paint a tooth to grab on to. Prep with TSP and rinse.
I have a 2004 Silverado classic can I just buy an hd hood and a 2006 grill and put it on? Or is there adjustments I need to do?
Hood and grill will bolt right into place with zero mods needed.
Does these 04 chevy truck have different hoods on them.
I had already put the 2006 hood on this prior to the grill swap. 110% bolt on swap.
Just picked up a 2006 1500 shortbed, is the HD that much difference? I did a complete HD on my 09 but it got totaled a while back
Your truck being a 2006 should already have this grill and hokd factory.

The grill and hood are both from 2 different 2006 trucks from salvage yards.

No you d0nt have to have the hood. But with the 03/05 style hood there will be a gap lip left where the 03/05 grill protrudes in the hood.
Is that the stock 04 hood too? I have an 04 that I want this grill for too but I didn’t know if the 06 grill would match up with my hood. I have a 1500
No, that's a 2006 hood. I put that hood on before I changed the grill.

Nope, those were all good '03/'06. Grill and hoods all interchange.

Yep, I put that on first, and still ran the 03/05 grill.
Major improvement! I am going to do the same on my '04 2500HD. Question: It looks like you put the 2006 hood on first, and then swapped out the grilles later. Is that true? The 2004 grille will fit under the 2006 hood?
I did out the 2006 hood on first before the grill because I had to rattle paint the end pieces to match. The 03/05 grill does fit under the 2006 hood.
@Hayden Royer the front ends on all the 1999/2006 trucks are interchangeable. You can definitely bolt on the 2006/2007 classic hood and grill onto a 2003/2005 1500 truck.
