Beautiful interpretation. Thanks for sharing. Will take me some time to learn this. Your signature C7b9 chord is a killer to jump to but really adds color to the performance. Also astonished by your right hand work which you don't feature here but is very advanced. Would be nice to see what you are doing there.
Thank you, William! ❤️ The right hand technique is called "Hybrid Picking" and I have a video on how to learn and practice it. Just tyoe "hybrid picking Guitarversum" in the RUclips search box.
Ok, ok, I'll do it :-) If it's doable. That means, if I can come up with an intermediate arrangement. You know, some songs just don't work well with chord melody. But I haven't checked on Stardust yet.
Awesome! Thank you Sandra for doing this lesson for us! It's one of those golden standards that withstands the test of time. I'm looking forward to digging in and learning it. Thank you for all your hard work Sandra. It's greatly appreciated!
Continuing --- on 'When Sunny Gets Blue", you say at the beginning of the lesson, that you're harmonizing, playing the C note on the 5th fret of the 3rd string, and E note on the 2nd fret of the 4th string. You explain that the E note is a sixth below on the F M scale. I don't understand? My knowledge only takes me to the D note os the 6th of F. Please explain. Really trying to learn. I'm Subscribed, and SO GLAD I AM.
I learned this at 14 (in G) and it's still my favorite chord solo. The version I was taught had a minor 7 to begin the second half of the middle section. Gives a nice change. I like your work!
I have been playing guitar for almost 50 years. All folk, rock and blues. Always steered clear of jazz as too complex. and After 50 years of muscle memory my fingers just wouldn't move in that crazy jazz way. I recently asked a trumpet player friend of mine for a couple of songs to work on. First up, When Sunny Gets Blue. One of the most challenging and rewarding guitar pieces I have every tried. This is by FAR the best lesson I have found. The structure, explanation , phase breakdown, all work well for me. I look forward to more. Thank you for all the hard work.
Welcome to the jazz ride! If you play with a trumpet player, you actually "just" need to do the comping, not the chords melody. I recommend you to check out my chords & comping playlist to learn this art. You'll also understand chord melody a lot better, if you know the undetlying chords.
Dear Sandra you are the best teacher of these chord melodies I am 66 years old and have been revitalized by these lessons , keeps my brain functioning like a younger man god bless you and keep them coming thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Yes, that's of course the case. Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I cna't correct it, once the video is uploaded. The tabs are correct, though. Let's blame it on my keyboard :-)
I'm 71 and my older sister was a Johnny Mathis freak; so I heard this song when I was a kid and it's haunted me my entire life. What a joy to be able to actually learn to play it. Thank you so much, and thanks for providing tab for a few Euros; with all the altered chords it was a great help. Hard to believe the verse is in F major, but when I throw and improvised lick in at the end of the verse, it definitely sounds right in F major. I often wonder how Jazz composers come up with all the interesting en-harmonics, modulations, and passing chords they use.
Hello sandra! im so happy that there is a channel like you.i also told about you to my guitarist friends. i love your work continue posting great videos 🙂
A great cover of a great standard, Sandra. Love your analysis comments as you go through these lessons... very insightful👍. I missed lunch yesterday, but dinner was just as enjoyable😉. Be well!
Guitarversum Sandra Sherman oh no! I hope you’re feeling better, Sandra🎈. Nasty bugs going around. Do rest and take care! Actually, dessert was some very good ice cream😉. Get well soon!
Not sure what you're seeing there, but it's a Dmaj7 twice. There are some Dm7 chips in there too, though. I just rewatched the performance and everything is correct.
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman its beautiful ..Im pretty new here...is this how you actually play it? or is this a easier version? is there a more pro way?:)

Essential repertoire for any jazz guitarist. Thanks Sandra!
Love this song 😍
Thanks so much for this lesson.
Glad it was helpful!
This is probably the most challenging project I've seen from you...especially at this tempo! You worked VERY hard to work up this arrangement.
Thank you for appreciating the hard work ❤️🙏❤️
Your lessons are great.
Thank you! Glad you enjoy them and you let me be a part of your jazz journey 😊. Keep swingin 🎶 🎸
Sounds good
Beautiful ballad and as always an excellent interpretation. I missed your videos already. Thank you so much, Sandra.
Thanks, Salvador. I was sick last week, but I'm almost back on track again.

Could you do a course on Stardust?
Yes, maybe
Mike Rathgeber I second this- a total classic

Guitarversum Sandra Sherman it works well- just a suggestion
Loved it. Thank you!!
Thanks, I needed that. Perfect for my level and a great redition of the song. Tabs and backing track already downloaded and well worth it!
Hey, that makes me really happy! 😍 Enjoy learning the tune!
Por favor manda a Tab dessa música: Dolannes Melody - Richard Clayderman
nice song, I would give a second thumbs up just for your ability to explain it for simple minds like mine ;-) thanks for the lesson
We all started out once! Hang in there! ❤️
That great the way you present this lesson. Thanks

It was a wish by many. I never had this song in my repertoire, but I like it a lot and it was fun making an arrangement.
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman Cool! Thanks.
One of my favorite jazz ballads. Thx Mrs Sandra!
You have good taste 😊

Might suggest a C7-5 after. Am7
I listen to Nat king Cole he sings it in key of Eb

It's a sixth, that occurs on the F major scale, not the 6th note OF the F major scale.

Interesting. That's what I love about jazz. You can re-interprer and use substitutions in so many different ways. It's fun!

Btw, we have a very popular song here called "Life starts at 66". It's get to late to do what you love! Let's go!
Very nice arrangement. At 21:04 the graphics show an E#7#9. Should be E7#9.
Yes, that's of course the case. Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I cna't correct it, once the video is uploaded. The tabs are correct, though.

@@GuitarversumSandraSherman That C7b9/Db, I'm liking that chord a LOT. My fingers, not so much. Thanks.

And they used to be more complicated. The chord changes in the Real Book are simplified.

Oh no! Didn't want to make you sad 😢
What a beautiful song!
Absolutely!
Such a great tune- great choice
A wonderful time, yes. Thank you ❤️
On the bridge, she played the wrong chord. D maj 7 the first time and D min 7 the second time. I’m just sayin’
Not sure what you're seeing there, but it's a Dmaj7 twice. There are some Dm7 chips in there too, though. I just rewatched the performance and everything is correct.
Sandra, this is such a beautiful arrangement - Thank you !
Thank you ❤️. Highly appreciated!
I just wanted to say thank you! I played this when I was 13 with my teacher but have forgotten it..and of course it was a more simplified version..
Great memories. Thanks for giving my arrangement a shot.
