Alrighty so, H20 is my absolute favorite Halloween movie, as in, better than the original to me. I know this movie has some serious flaws, the mask is one that even bothers me some (not nearly as much as it bothers you). I also don't like the lack of originality to a lot of the score, borrowing much of it from Scream, with that said, I actually think Scream's soundtracks work well in it, but that doesn't change the fact that it is not original, as a OST is VERY important to me. As someone who considers themselves a pretty big fan of Halloween, I am a Halloween, Halloween 2, Halloween H20 kind of person, that is the trilogy that I love, I don't like the thorn trilogy at all, Halloween 6 is my most hated movie because of the thorn story (which sucks as I like a lot of other aspects of the movie). Anyway, H20 wraps up the trilogy so beautifully to me, my favorite part of slashers is the victims fighting back, whether they win or lose, Laurie deciding she will no longer be the victim and deciding to take down Michael is amazing to me. I was 4 years old when I first watched H20, and if I remember correctly, it was the first halloween I ever saw, and when Michael got decapitated, it chilled me and exhilarated me even being so young with so little knowledge of the franchise. Even beyond the third act that is flawless in my eyes though, the movie's exploration of the psychological impact on Laurie is something I love, and all of the characters are extremely enjoyable to watch for me. The kills are pretty lackluster for the most part except for Sarah's death, once again, being 4, her death stuck with me from a very young age. Her leg being mauled blew my mind, the scary simplicity of him pinning her down and stabbing her was and still is awesome to me, and then the TERRIFYING shot of her hung up by the light afterwards. Finally, for me, this movie is just so much fun to watch, even with some of the issues it has I am having a blast watching this movie every second, am I scared? Not really for the most part, but am I having a good time? For sure. Wow this comment is long but I am really passionate about this movie lol

    • @DrumdumsOfficial
      @DrumdumsOfficial  6 лет назад +21

Love your passion for this movie...and am glad that it means so much to you. That's what is great about this franchise. Many of the movies have their own fans, and H20 is one of them. Can't take away from that last act. Jamie owns it. I'm going to pin this comment just because I like your passion.

I totally get what your saying about Sarah's death. I also saw it at a young age and it was like the only Michael Myers kill in the series that actually stuck with me for a while

    • @mr.drakanator
      @mr.drakanator 6 лет назад +2

Her death stuck with me in an enjoyable way, it was a fun kill to watch and it was memorable, but not traumatizing, unlike the damned hot tub kill in Halloween 2 that literally scarred me for life tnat I still am not able to watch AT ALL to this day.

"MICHAEL!!!!!!" and Jamie Lee Curtis yell his name ready to fight with an ax, that moment has to be my favorite moment in the franchise in the sequels and the score that made it even more memorable.

H20 is my 3rd favorite after the Original and Halloween 4. I seen this movie when it came out in 98 at the drive-ins, I was only 7 years old. It started my fascination with this franchise.

Jamie Lee Curtis considers the film a thank you note to her fans. Curtis: "Without that early career, I truly don't think I would have been an actor."
Even after 20 years, Jamie Lee Curtis said that seeing Michael Myers on set still scared her.
LL Cool J had always been a fan of the Halloween movies. His mother took him to see the original when he was just nine years old.
When Jamie Lee Curtis' character says, "go down the street to the Beckers..." this was supposed to refer to the line from Halloween (1978), "go down the street to the McKenzie's house..." The name was changed to Becker, which was the last name of Drew Barrymore's character in Scream (1996).
The shortest "Halloween" movie in the series, with a run time of 86 minutes.
Michelle Williams signed on without ever having seen any of the Halloween movies.
Director Steve Miner also directed two films in another popular horror series: Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) and Friday the 13th Part III (1982).
    Body Count: 7 (two off-screen)
Jamie Lee Curtis refers to the film as "Field of Screams". "If you build it, they will come."
Josh Hartnett's first acting project and film debut.
Ronny calls Laurie "psycho" as she drives past him when she comes in through the gate. Jamie Lee Curtis' mother Janet Leigh, who appears as Norma in this film, starred in Psycho (1960).
During the scene where Norma is leaving, she stands in front of the car from Psycho (1960). The music playing in the background at this part is also from Psycho. Janet Leigh, who plays Norma, played Marion in Psycho. The license plate on the car is also the same as the second car Marion buys in Psycho, NFB 418, which are Norman Bates' initials and lastly, Norma is the first name of Norman Bates' Mother from Psycho.
Halloween: H20" is the seventh film in the series. H2O is the chemical symbol for water which has a pH balance of 7.0
Both Nancy Stephens and Joseph Gorden Levitt are dead before their names appear in the opening credits.

Absolutely love H20 despite its many problems. My 3rd favorite in the series. Halloween 6 was ok but the Thorn shit and Michael impregnating Jamie really turned me off. I will admit 6 had great atmosphere and a great Myers though

H20 is my third favorite too! :D **Snail high fives you** 🐌
My favorite is Halloween, second favorite Halloween 4, fourth favorite is Halloween III. The 1981 Halloween II is meh in my list, nothing bad nor exceptional for me. I absolutely hated 5-6, Resurrection and the Zombie duology.

I'm so glad I didn't know about Michael being the father till years later! That would've fucked w/my head so much at the tender age of 14! I was obsessed w/Michael Myers back then! I mean obsessed!!! I'm still a HUGE fan but I even had a crush on him when I was 14! I still do, I can't lie. 😍Lmao! Anyway, that would've completely ruined part 6 for me back then. It already wasn't perfect but there would've been no recovering from that if I'd of known that back then.
I really love the lighting in part 6, I love the whole Fall look & feeling, & I love a lot of the kills. The mask is cool, the actor who played Michael was awesome. Yeah, "Daddy Myers" defiantly takes all that & pisses on it for sure! I just watch the theatrical cut & forget about the Daddy stuff.

You are always such a joy to tune into. I have to disagree with a lot. The mask changes are my biggest issue. I love the music - although I’d have been happy with something more reminiscent of the first. I love the main mask they tried to stick with and did reshoots for. I absolutely love the writing and I find Michael scariest ever since the first. To be fair, this was my first Halloween and my reason for being a fan. I think this is the absolute best sequel far exceeding part 2 and thank god they retconned 4-6. If 5 and 6 didn’t screw it up, I’d love to see it folks 4 but it can’t. I love the slow burn and the small body count. I think Michael looks terrifying and he looks like a regular man like the first.

There's was a scene that was written in the script where a student dose a report about the killing spree that Michael Myers did during 1988-1995 then Keri/Laurie overhears a student's report about the death of Jamie Lloyd, as a result she goes into the restroom then throws up & cries reminding her about the daughter she had abandoned. But unfortunately it was never shot.

Great revisited review ones again Lee! I really got a soft spot for H20 and it makes my top 3 of the halloween series, but I do agree with every issue you got with the film it is truly a flawed movie. But the great stuff is amazing so at the end of the day the good outweighs the bad, I get goosebumps everytime Laurie chops Michaels head of and the music kicks in.

You bring up some fantastic points. Chris Durand is my least favorite actor to play Myers. The fact that he had never seen a Halloween film or studied the other actors who played him in the past shows. I still like the film a lot but I really hated that they ignored 4-6. Jamie lee Curtis is fantastic in the movie. Josh hartnett is also fantastic. There are some great elements and I like the fact that it took place someplace else for once. Congrats on hitting 15,000 subs. Really happy for you

Lee , Im a big fan of H20. The opening scene and credits part are wonderful!
I especially love when they close Loomis' office door, and the credits start to roll as the camera pans to the right and there is a crsck of thunder. It just feels absolutely perfect to me.
I DID love the tie in parts to Pycho since they had Janet Leigh in it. I loved those little nods to another horror movie.
The scene with Josh and Michelle locked behind the gate was just intense for me the first time I saw it!
I think I've told you before, I grew up with Kevin Williamson, well, he was a few years older than me, but we lived in a small town, everyone knew everyone. I actually got to watch The Faculty with Kevin at the theater which was pretty cool. And I got to be an extra on Dawson's Creek, after H20 had came out, so I got to talk to Michelle in between scenes about the movie.
But....THAT ENDING! CHILLS ALL OVER MY BODY when that happened! And it ends with you hearing Laurie breathing heavily like part one did with Michael. I loved that touch. 🪦🎃🔪

H20 got the story, characters, and setting down pat. All of that was perfect in my eyes.
It is tonally, and in its atmosphere, that the movie really goes wrong in my eyes. It really takes that 90’s slasher atmosphere of something like Scream, and it feels more like that movie and less like a Halloween film. There’s no good Halloween atmosphere in H20, and the direction is very subpar - we almost never get good stalking scenes or scenes where Michael is properly shrouded in darkness. When we do get them, they don’t work, because the film’s director is definitely no John Carpenter.
What this movie gets right, though, it does perfectly, and while it only feels like Halloween in its story rather than its tone, I think this entry is pretty great overall, even if it pales in comparison to the original film and some of the other sequels.
    Great video!

I always enjoyed the cameo of the nurse from the original, in this one. It kind of made me think of the opening to Friday the 13th part 2, though sometimes I think it'd work better if they lived longer and it was emphasized as to whom they actually were. Then when they got offed, it'd really shock, akin to Mwrion Crane in Psycho, dying halfway through.
Edit: love the shirt! Trick 'R Treat is a great movie!

I agree with all of your criticisms. While I don’t hate this movie, to me, it was a necessary evil to keep the franchise alive and ultimately kept the door open for the 2018 movie. The best way to keep Myers alive is to ignore movies 3-6. H20 is still watchable and certainly not the worst of the sequels.

Halloween H20 was a product of its time. When it released it was well received by the Halloween fandom, but overtime it hasn't aged well at all. The dialogue and atmosphere is very cheesy and 90's, and at times feels like self-parody films such as "Scream" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer" which were part of the Horror pop Slasher revival craze at the time. Despite all of this, I however do enjoy the opening of the film in Illinois with the playing of "Mr. Sandman". Out of every scene it was the one that felt to most "Autumn" than any other in the film. The rest area scene was another plus, and it was the most suspenseful and creepiest of any other of the film. The idea of a mother and her young daughter being isolated in this bathroom in the middle of nowhere alone with Michael Myers was terrifying.

I saw only Halloween 1 and 2 so I was a purist and I absolutely refused to watch any of the sequels after that. It was H20 that came on TV one night in 1999 and it won me over. I watched and taped half of it and it made me think "hey, this was pretty good and maybe the other sequels will be too" I thought that it did a good job of modernizing it into Scream generation. I then seeked down 3 through 6 (Resurrection had yet to be released). I cheered at the ending, it was so satisfying (and Resurrection took that away...) that ending was perfect.
Now after re-watching this movie over the years the biggest glaring issue was the final mask looked cool and all, but it wasn't very terrifying and represented the evil like the original and the actor himself was very slapstick, he gets bonked on the head multiple times, he's clumsy, he gets thrown around. I didn't feel that threat from him, that threatening force the original Myers had. He just seemed like a slasher villain from a not so popular 80s movie, like just a killer in a mask with no deep dept.

I've watch this movie several times since it's release.. Never once have I noticed different masks or different music scores..I just don't put any thought to it.. The score doesn’t just sound like Scream. Some of the tracks are actually ripped straight from it! The music that plays when Michael chases everyone out of the school out to the vehicle is ripped from the scene in Scream where the girl is attacked in garage.

Instead of Steve Miner I think Wes Craven should of direct, I think that will be cool or even John Carpenter be the producer and he can work with craven!

I was so pumped for Halloween H20 that I remember in ‘98, my entire family, and I mean like 40 of us all flew to Portugal to celebrate the 30th anniversary of when my family left Portugal and immigrated to Canada, and all I could talk about that whole trip was how Laurie Strode/Jamie Lee Curtis was returning to the franchise and this was going to be the greatest thing ever in the history of film!
Sigh, I miss the innocence of those times.
Anyways, this film really disappointed me. I made the same mistake with H6, Hellraiser Bloodline, the Schumacher Batman films, Star Wars prequels, where my expectations where way to high. So high, that it was unfair to this film. But with that said, it did have its moments, and Jamie Lee Curtis is always great. Plus it’s so crazy how many young stars are in this movie. Like I totally forgot that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michelle Williams were in this. I did remember Hartnett though.
I totally agree that Michael Myers is really off in this. His mask(s) belongs more on the jersey shore than in this Halloween franchise. Maybe it’s the weird eyebrows and that we can see his eyes, it’s just off. I didn’t even know about the CGI mask until now! Wow! Smh. I also wasn’t scared or intimidated at all by this Michael. Zombie’s Michael Voorhees was the stuff that nightmares are made of compared to this. Hell, Austin Powers is more scarier and intimidating than this Michael. Yeah baby! I also wish this film didn’t take place in California instead of Haddonfield, Illinois.
On the plus side, I also thought the ending is great. It was one hell of a showdown. And I prefer this film way over Halloween Resurrection. Then again, I prefer any film over that garbage heap.

I heard that Steve Miner was originally going to ignore Halloween II when he made H20 until he was told that that was where the reveal that Laurie was Michael's sister happened. I wish H20 had acknowledged 4-6. It would have made Laurie killing Michael more meaningful IMO because she'd have been avenging her big sister, her friends, her daughter and countless other innocent people her evil big brother had killed. In a way she'd have also been avenging Dr Loomis whose obsession with Michael had allowed Michael to ruin his life.

I read once, that Chris Durand said, that the cgi mask was because in that shot, he was wearing the k&b mask and they couldn‘t shoot the scene again. So they used cgi, to change it a little. The mask wasn‘t pure cgi, they used cgi to alter the k&b mask.

    • @DrumdumsOfficial

I agree with what you said about stature....Chris Durand does stand about 6'1-6'2 so height wise hes perfect but theres something about his build that is not that intimidating. Maybe its the way he stands and walks that ruins it....
The mask they used in some of the beginning scenes that was based off the H6 mask was good, they should have stuck with it.

Now that I'm a huge fan of the entire series and I've learned all about these movies I understand why its hated so much. I cant help it though. I actually love the main mask and Chris Durands portrayal. Other than that I completely agree with you. It's a guilty pleasure for me and I get alot of crap for it. It did save the franchise and I think we should be thankful for at least that much about H20.

Great review!!! I've been anticipating your Halloween H20 revisited for months. I was 10 when I first saw H20 in theaters. I remember when the trailer first dropped on TV. I agree with the mask change! When I saw the CGI mask on the big screen I was like *What the hell was that* but I must say overall this will always be a favorite! I watch it every year as I do with all of the Halloween films. Also the score doesn't bother me that much but I understand what you're saying! Jamie Lee Curtis made this movie possible. Here we are again 20 years later and the scream queen is back! I watched the first Halloween when I was 4 years old and fell in love with the franchise! Halloween 6 is also a favorite. Top 3 of the series for me! Thank you Lee!

Oh boy, I can't wait for you to revist Halloween Resurrection next, that should be *"fun"*
Also I for the most part agree with you. It’s an enjoyable film but it took the Halloween franchise in a more mainstream approach which ruined the atmospheric feel of what made Halloween special. In my opinion I think the Halloween “feel” was long gone after II, because everything after that progressively got less and less, it’s hard to explain this, “Carpenter-like” which is what made me love the Halloween films in the first place.
A Humdrum is a very fair score though.

I was just shy old enough to see the original Halloween movie in a theater, (but managed to sneak into part 2.) I had to rely on my older Cousins to freak me out and peak my interest to follow the series clear thru H20. I agree it coulda/shoulda ended there (at least before Resurrection.)
Now that 2018 is out it is actually the one I didn't see in a theater, much to my disappointment... I was terrified it was gonna continue to destroy my love for the series...

In my fanatic mind I like to pretend H6 and H20 are still related. Michael was released from his curse at the end of H6 and went on the hunt for Laurie in H20. I love the curse mask at the beginning of H20. Agree they should've kept it throughout the movie.

Nowadays I see all the problems you just mentioned, specially the mask, I agree they should've used the Curse Mask till the end because that CGI it's just freaking awful. That being said, I grew up in the 90´s so this is the first sequel to Halloween I ever watched.I remember my oldest brother rented the VHS for Halloween 1 and H20 and we watched them back to back and it was great, I have that nostalgia that makes H20 a fun experience for me, I would watch the rest of the franchise later because I became a huge horror fan, but this one Ranks to me maybe right in the middle. Also, I feel this is the best ending, at least in the way the kill Michael. Anyways, great review as always man and congrats on the new milestone :D

Side note, I think Jamie Lee Curtis should’ve received a Golden Globe nomination for Halloween (2018), specifically for the scene where she cries then screams when Michael is boarding the prison bus.
