Meryl Streep unlocked something in me as a little girl seeing this movie 😂 walked around for about a week after acting like some rich sassy lady
The special effects in this movie were revolutionary at the time. It won the oscar for best visual effects and all the effects people were hired to work on Jurassic Park right after which also won best visual effects.
You’re so wonderful with details. I’ve never met anyone who spotted the pin on Helen’s dress.
43:22 I always loved that subtle joke 😂
This is the peak of campy 90’s comedy & both leading ladies looked FABULOUS!
The characters were named Madelyn, Ernest, and Helen so that their nicknames (Mad, Ern, Hel) sound like ‘madder than hell’. Mad’ern’hel. Just fun trivia lol
Oh my gosh I’m so glad you watched this! Isabella Rossellini, the witchy lady, is Ingrid Bergman’s daughter, l really love her in this. Everyone is so good, Meryl is so funny and Bruce Willis was just so good and it was a joy to see him in something quite different to his other roles. The effects with their bodies…brilliant! Loved this Kemi dearest❤️
I didn't know that about Isabella Rossellini!
@@Steelburgh it’s really interesting, if you compare their photos (especially where they’re both the same age), she looks a lot like her mother and her voice is very similar too.
Robert Zemeckis' filmography from the late 70s to early 2000s is always worth checking out: Death Becomes Her, Back to the Future trilogy, Forrest Gump, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Cast Away, Romancing the Stone, Contact, What Lies Beneath, Used Cars, I Wanna Hold Your Hand.
I never get tired of this movie!
I have always loved this movie, especially with that ending. Ernest died, but in this last 37 years, he really lived. Madeline and Hellen were made immortal by the potion. But, they were confined to their own personal hell, or at least purgatory, forever dependent on the person they both hate the most, each other.
i have a feeling that this movie is underrated ... just love the comedy in this; also, the way madeline and helen shattered in the end reminds me alot of twilight vampires, i guess they got the idea from this movie lol
If a movie can be funny and disturbing at the same time, this is it. Enjoyed your reaction of comedy and horror.
I can't believe I never noticed the pin on Helen's red dress and I have loved this movie for over 20 years. Good eye! Ooh, I just thought of a good scene. I would have liked to have seen an open casket at Ernest's funeral. We would have seen Ernest's young hand resting on his aged body. I assume the potion would have kept his hand from aging.
Good one !
I love dark comedies. This is a great one in regards to over the top vanity and revenge. The lead roles killed it! Heathers, is another dark comedy I have always loved. I just love, completely over the top ridiculousness, with great acting, and a brilliant script!
Heathers would be a good reaction for KSO.
The doctor's scene always cracks me up! 😂😆 Great reaction video (as always) 😊
I love that he leaves to have a heart attack 😅
Great cameo by Sydney Pollack.
Fun Fact:
Originally the ending happened 27 years later in Switzerland. Ernest is alive and old, with his wife.. sitting on the grass in a park having a picnic. They are still very much in love. Then we move to a balcony where Madeline and Helen are... still beautiful... but bored to death. They notice the old couple and Madeline ridicules them. Helen doesn't, she looks at them... then at herself and Madeline and realises what a mistake she made. Then Ernest touches the hand of his wife and we see he still has the one young hand. Madeline & Helen keep watching them as the movie fades to black... during this there is a subliminal glimpse of skulls over the eternal ladies' faces.
Because this ending was cut an entire subplot was removed and an immense amount of scenes were removed also because a big part of the third act was gone they had to even things out.
Wooow, they should have kept that ending ❤
@@LinokuhleMajolaunfortunately the test audience didn’t like it because they liked the dark comedy aspect a lot which is why they changed it. I wish there was a cut they could add to a blu ray or something
It took home the Oscar for Best Visual Effects!
36:45 - October 26, 1985
Is the same date used in Back To The Future as the date Marty travels back to his present.
Both movies were directed by Robert Zemeckis, who also directed Forrest Gump and Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
At the point where the lady who gives Meryl Streep's character the potion and says about a client saying, ".....I want to be alone....," she's quoting a famous line said by the famous actress Greta Garbo in one of her films.
Basically, this implies that Greta Garbo was supposedly one of her customers....
Garbo was also very reclusive. She 'disappeared' after every movie she did.
Yes, that was supposed to be Jim Morrison from The Doors and the car Ernest takes was James Dean's. Also the person who said "I vant to be alone" was Greta Garbo, who left acting at age 35.
44:02, apparently it's her next to Marilyn Munroe and Andy Warhol.
@@zvimur I've seen this movie lots of times and I never noticed her before. I guess my eyes stick to Monroe and Warhol.
@@kp22kc same. One thought though. Is "Dr Schagal" in fact Mark Schagal, possibly?
My favorite Meryl Streep film! Such a funny cult classic!
Meryl is SO funny. She’s such a brilliant dramatic actress. We sometimes forget how hilarious she is. Bruce Willis is so under-rated too. I love all the performances in this one. A triumvirate power cast!
Of the 3 leads, Goldie and Bruce have the most comedy in their background, but Meryl slays in every scene. Casting her against type was a brilliant choice.
@@LordVolkovwatch her in 'she-devil' with Roseanne Barr.
The screenplay was intended as a segment in an anthology film called Tales from the Crypt. It got made into a full picture that removed a whole subplot involving Tracey Ullman as co-star; and different ending (both were filmed but never shown). There is a screenplay online with the full script and is rather good IMO.
Garbo said the classic line "I want to be alone" from the movie Grand Hotel, 1932.
Which I now official vote for a reaction to on this channel. Grand Hotel from 1932 that is.
I read the script. The only issue I had with the original one was that we missed out actually seeing Mad and Hel fighting and "reconciling", we just went straight to them coming upstairs.
Best dark comedy ever made. I saw this as a teen at the movies. Still a fav.
Bruce Willis was perfect for this role... all his comedic timing just fell into place. Loved him in Moonlighting with Cybil Shepherd, he's kind of know as an action hero with a cheeky chappie persona, he is so talented and fun to watch! Great choice and lovely laugh along reaction, thank you 👏💖
Couldn't agree more!
Another great Meryl Streep dark comedy is "She devil", I think you'd love it, it's absolutely brilliant
I'm so happy you're reacting to this! Another film with Meryl Streep that is hilarious that you might check out is 'She-Devil'.
'Oooh! Gummibear!'
I totally forgot Bruce Willis played Ernest!!! OMG love this classic so much
October 26, 1985 - the date Helen took the potion is the same date that Doc sent Marty McFly back in time to 1955 in Back to the Future.. Both movies, Death Becomes Her and Back to the Future are Robert Zemeckis films. Greta Garbo is the actress that supposedly said, "I want to be alone".
One of the very few films that I can watch repeatedly. Very funny, well acted and produced but with a proper message…
Your wrap-up at the end was the best part of this reaction. It's something we need to hear again and again until it really sinks in
If you had so much fun watching this dark comedy, maybe you'll like
"Elvira, Mistress of the Dark"
80 horror comedy. Consider reacting.
"Death becomes her" in my opinion one of the best movies to watch in October.
One of my favorite films, I'm already delighted! 🤗
Hope you enjoy
Yess,a classic movie,i love this one
It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963) you will love this too,old but gold and totaly Crazy Movie
I have watched this movie countless times, I just adore this comedy trio.. ❤
Yes it was Jim morrison from the doors and James Dean near the car. There were so many other famous points there from Marilyn Monroe and Marleena Dietric among many many others.
You are the sweetest and kindest person on RUclips. I love your insights at the end of each movie you watch. 🙏 ❤
You're the best!Thank you so much
Thanks, Kemi! ☠ My friends and I loved this one so much, we'd quote lines from it when we'd go out together. #SCENEcrlyKSO #RobertZemeckis #DeathBecomesHer
Goldie Hawn is a perfection in this! Totally out off her box... and so gorgeous.
I knew you would get a kick out of this movie. I rewatch it now amd them for a lighthearted laugh.
This is my all time favorite movie! Loved your reaction!
I saw this movie around 6 yrs old. Scared me to pieces. Now its one of my classics❤
Truly timeless film.
My mom loves this movie! God Bless to you from my mom and I in So. Cal USA 🇺🇸
Please check out these following movies.
1. Casper 1995 (one of my moms favorites)
2. Hocus Pocus 1993
3. Sleepy Hollow 1999 (Starring Johnny Depp)
There’s so many more I could list but it would make my comment way too long!
Love your movie reaction channel! Keep up the amazing work! ❤️🥰❤️
Love to all reading this from wherever you are tuning in from! ❤️❤️
This is a good example of a deep philosophical meaning hidden behind Hollywood special effects.
yes! i particularly love the scene near the end at the party with james dean, elvis, marilyn monroe etc. who knows what they’re trying to say 😉
Can't wait...
A great movie with a great cast..
So Much Fun..
Wow, hadn't thought of this movie in a long time but I enjoyed it back then.
The quote "I vant to be alone" is from Hollywood actress Greta Garbo when she said that line in the 1932 film Grand Hotel.
She eventually became a recluse in real life and repeated that line when people kept trying to interview her.
@@lordwalker71 very true
I love Meryl Streep! I adore Meryl Streep! She's a queen, a goddess ❤
There is a movie i think you would like called Silkwood that came out in 1984 based on a true story about a woman named Karen Silkwood Who worked at a plutonium plant. It stars Meryl Streep, Kurt Russell and Cher.
This movie used to scare me when I was a little girl. 😂 The neck!
My favorite horror comedy. Its underrated hidden gem. Yes you got it right. This movie is about the vanity. I'm happy you understood that. Most reactors miss the point.
Always loved the final clash between these three psychos :D
glad you enjoyed the movie!
YOU of all reviewers really get this film! You beat Siskel and Ebert who gave it two thumbs down on 1992 release. Some trenchant points made in a supremely clever script & production. BRAVA! 👏
I most definitely wouldn't take that vial. Living without end? On this rock?!
One of my favorite movies to watch with my wife and son around Halloween.
The guy standing next the silver sports car at the end was supposed to be James Dean and the guy by the pool was supposed to be Jim Morrison. When they were back in the party there was Marilyn Monroe and Artist Andy Warhol and I think the woman standing next to Marilyn was supposed to be another actress but not sure which one.
please do these Goldie Hawn movies
1.Private Benjamin 2.The Out Of Towners 3.Housesitter 4.The First Wives Club 5.Theres A Girl In My Soup 6.Shampoo 7.The Sugarland Express 8.Foul Play
34:48 Bruce Willis’ scream 😂😂😂
Goldie Hawn's 1969 CACTUS FLOWER (with Walter Matthau) featured Ingrid Berman in a that rom-com hippie-era film. Twenty three years later, it's Ingrid's daughter sharing screen time with Goldie and in this more greatly-favored DEATH.
Sydney Pollack wins my lifetime award for The Funniest Scene Ever. And Bruce Willis - off of so many action-thrillers - is so sure "The morque?!! she'll be FURIOUS!!"
And you were afraid that it might be too gory. LMAO!
Well said at the end!
I first saw this movie when I was around 9 years old. I thought the cover of the VHS was hilarious looking, so I grabbed it for my rental of the week. (My dad took us every 4 weeks or so.) I rented it multiple times, actually. lol
“Ernest I’m in the morgue “
Helen and Madelyn literally ended up in a hell of their own making.
I'm so glad that someone finally requested this because I knew you'd love it. It's one of my favourite films. The cinematography captivated me as a child. The woman who plays the witch is Isabella Rossellini. She is the daughter of Ingrid Bergman (Casablanca). She does an incredible performance in David Lynch's 'Blue Velvet' which explores the darkess and corruption that exists within society and within our own minds. I hope someone requests it someday if they haven't already...
I wish this film had done better in theaters. I saw it in a 400 seat auditorium and besides myself there was maybe 6 other people in there with me.
watching your reaction to this film was priceless! thakn you for reacting to this one.
16:16 Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present, Isabella Rossellini.
Daughter of Italian director Robert Rossellini and Swedish actress and well-known beauty Ingrid Bergman.
I am soooo glad you are loving this queen I have always enjoyed this movie so much!! ❤ much love
I absolutely love this movie!
This is one of my favorite movies! Thank you for this one! I needed it!!!
Bruce stole actor 52:13 James Dean car to escape the mansion. That was supposed to be James with the cigarette. He died in '55 in a car crash. In that car specifically.
Omg, this is a great film!
Movie Suggestion: ‘Nell’ starring Jodie Foster and Liam Neeson.
Can't wait to see the reaction ❤
Love this movie! Definitely looking forward to watching this one. 😊
Hope you enjoy it!
I love this movie. So fun watching you react to it! ❤
I love this film one of my favorites but I do have to agree I doubt Ernest and Madelyn would have ever met if Helen had just cut her out if she had stolen her men in the past. Why stay friends with that type of person. As well as not gone to her show. (Course then it will be a whole different film lol) She and Ernest may have still been together and married Madelyn may have still gotten the potion but not have been turned into twisted up Mangled barbie lol. Such a good film. Since Halloween month is not too far away I do want to recommend a film called " The people under the stairs" from 1991
Isabella rossellini is Athena
Was...actually she and all them are too old now....normally...but saddenly...
@@dimitrakapa4887 good thing we got it on film
@@RussellStClair-cy1vu yes...!! 😏
This movie is so hilarious and campy, and the outfits are just *chefs kiss.
47:02 Well, she did give them fair warning.....
It's one of the best movies! I can't wait! 🎉
19:26 Greta Garbo famously said that 💯🎬
A classic!
One of my favorites comedies funny in a dark way 😊.
I love this movie! So glad you also enjoyed it. 😂❤
please watch these Bruce Willis movies
1.Red 2.Red 2 3.Hudson Hawk 4.Lucky Number Slevin 5.Whole Nine Yards 6.Whole Ten Yards 7.Hostage 8.Armagedden 9.Sin City 10.Bandits 11.The Fifth Element
Goldie Hawn was charming funny in this film. 😂😁😂
I swear I love your reactions! What program/method do you use to edit?
Greta Garbo.... "I vant to be alone"
I always enjoy your reactions 😊
My favorite movie 😊❤😊❤!
15:27 I think she'd much prefer the title 'enchantress', sounds more elegant - and more fitting for someone who dresses like she does....and doesn't wear a bra......
Lisle was originally meant to be cleopatra
In the shooting script there is a scene where she tells us she is 600 years old (admitting this to Ernest when she tries to have him take the potion). She shows her true colors when she admits to having killed Lincoln, Max Factor and Shakespeare cause they didn't want to take the potion.
That was Greta Garbo at 19:20 It were her words
James Dean, it was James Dean.
Yeah, no one can really understand the clothes that Lisle Van Rumen's minions are wearing.
They should have climbed into a crematorium. It's the only way to get free of their bodies.
the woman with the beads is the DEVIL.
remember how she reached when Bruce said OMG.
Watch Natasha kinski in Cat people
The thing is that the potion gave them long life in their bodies but not an eternal body. That's why they were told to take care of their bodies. So if they died they were eternally stuck there even though like at the end, the body was dismembered. Kinda a curse in disguised. Not like the blessing that the Lord offers us, where He offers us an eternal body as well one day as well with an eternal life.
