I use primarily Novacolor, with supplementary Liquitex and Golden, and my favorite color varies. Pthalo turq with white makes the most enchanting Robin's egg blue. The unbelievable purple from mixing ultramarine, fluorescent magenta, and quin magenta blows my socks off. But my go-to get-me-out-of-a-funk color combo is fluorescent red and pyrrole red to start a painting or grid journal, then black on top. Scratching through to those magma-like colors excites me. I primarily work on paper and cradled panels, so I can sand back through some of the layers (especially satisfying if the reds underneath are more textured).
I’m so happy you made this video bc I’ve been looking at these paints for like 2yrs. My favorite besides golden fluid acrylics are turners & Holbein acrylic gouache. I use them together & interchangeably. They are the most bright & bold colors I’ve ever seen!! I’m sure you’ve tried them already but if not, they’re a lot of fun. Very opaque but a ton of fun!!!
I have Nova and I find that shaking or stirring is a great idea! It is a very flat paint so I have found in my climate, that it dries quickly on the gel plate. I'm a fast printer when I'm really into it so it does well for me. I can get some interesting textures when leaving "messy" pull paint to dry on the plate several times then pulling. It looks like an old Venetian plaster wall! Can't seem to get the same effect with a glossier acrylic! Have fun!
I love my Nova Color Acrylics! They dry really fast on my gel plate where I live, so I make liberal use of their Novaplex 235 fluid enhancer or outright mix it up with retarder, depending. The pigment is SO rich in them, and they're made right here in the USA. Each color is clearly described at their web site, so I always know whether I am ordering a transparent color or opaque. And the cost is always so reasonable compared to Golden. Sure ... if you want Green Gold, you will have to mix your own. :). But I love mixing colors! Their customer support is over the top, too. All of this to say, this is me, *raving* about Nova Color! I always think they are one of the best kept art source secrets! So nice to see you using it, Miss Susan! Hugs, deb.
I'm a new convert to the Nova color community. I see a lot of abstract artists use it and I'm very happy they work so well on the gel plate. Thanks for watching
Thanks for watching. I tried making videos without the music and I hated them and I found that my views dropped off significantly. So sorry to say I will continue to add the music.

Very informative! I went straight to the Nova Paint website. I mentioned that I heard about their product from your video. Well done! (Except I agree with a few other posts - the background music is distracting and repetitive to the point of becoming annoying.)
Thanks for mentioning me to them. I applied for the partner program but haven't heard yet. It is a great replacement for Golden fluid at a much better cost.
About 95% of my paint is novacolor, with a smattering of colors available only in Golden. I do mixed media on paper and cradled board and find that it is very adequate for my needs. I don't mind ordering direct, because the lack of middleman means i pay less. Even though i'm on the opposite coast, the shipments always arrive earlier than the estimated delivery date. My antidepressant colors are pyrrole red (which I'm about to order in the quart size) and fluorescent red, great colors to lay down first, and scratch through subsequent layers. It's like lava and magic. On the calmer side, pthalo turquoise and titanium white make the most enchanting Robin's egg blue.
I'm ordering more today. My first order took weeks for some reason. I've place 2 other orders since and they came quick, not amazon quick, but quick. It's great paint.
Hi Susan! I enjoyed watching your experiments in this video. I have seen people using this paint but not often. I took a look at the website and they do have an acrylic retarder that may come in handy if your drying times are too fast. Good luck with the new product!! 🥰
I haven't tried their mediums yet. When I need to replenish I will order some. I like the fact that they dry fast. Similar to the golden fluid. I like working fast. I have a Golden retarder that I use when painting flowers.
One reason I've never tried Nova acrylics is that none of the art supply stores I'm familiar with sell them-the only place I can find them is on Amazon, which is generally not my first choice for art supplies. Your presentation was very informative, though perhaps a bit late for me in that I have a lot of different acrylic paints on hand, so it will be a while before I'm buying more. I did enjoy and learn from your color mixing.
I wish they did sell on Amazon. I placed the order and had to wait a month to get the paint. So now I know I have to plan well in advance. Amazon is my first choice because when I go to art supply stores they are always out of the color I need or the product is not in stock. I've given up on local purchasing. Our art supplies stores are very small and they can't stock everything. Work with the paint you have. I don't believe in buying more if you already have paint. Best of luck to you and thanks for watching.
Novacolor in Culver City, CA,sells directly to artists, so they are more affordable. I seem to have a better experience in terms of delivery times, as they've always arrived sooner than the estimated arrival times. I love them for painting and gelli printing, for collage.
No one was using them on the plate so I thought there was a reason. But it works well. I also use amsterdam but I like the selection of colors that Nova offers. Thanks for watching.
I use Nova most of the time and really like the consistency for painting and gel printing. Some of the colors dry really fast on the plate. Paynes Gray is one of them so I am curious to see if you find the same thing if you get some from Nova.
I forgot to buy the paynes grey so I will have to do another order soon. I was hoping they would dry fast. So I'm very happy because I get a similar result to Golden fluid. A little grainier. It's odd that some colors would dry faster. I will look out for that.
I get the deli paper on Amazon. Love this one: amzn.to/498i17b. You can get a baren, speedball makes one. I like to use my hands so I can feel the coolness.

I just ordered more. I think it's perfect for the plate. Thanks for your comment.

I agree. Best kept secret. I'm glad I discovered them.
I love Nova Color paints and used them today on canvas but with collage too. They dry quickly. The pigment in their paints is top notch imo.

Except for the background music, I love watching your videos. Thank you.
While the background music doesn't interfere with hearing the narration, I find it distracting.

Oh Susan! The blue with bits of red! Just gorgeous. I vote for both mask and stencil.
Thanks. I will be launching a lot of new stencils soon and I will have a sale. Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks for sharing your experiments. Certainly good to know if we are considering purchasing these paints.
Thanks for watching.

I love Nova paints and transfer them to condiment jars when they arrive. Beautifully pigmented and work great on the plate.
Yes, I purchased more squeeze bottle so I can do that. It's best for working on the gel plate.
Excellent paint!!
I love it.
Catherine Raines mixes Nova paints (she uses only blue, yellow & red + Bl&W). Fascinating results!
I mostly use those colors too so that is why I didn't buy very many colors. I do wish I had purchased the paynes grey and a different yellow.
Nice video Susan. Good to know about Nova colors. I like them!!!!
Katherine Rains uses Novo paint. I think you may like her channel
I didn't realize she used Nova Color paint. I've seen her channel.
Thank you so much! I’ve been wondering how NOVA would do! Amsterdam I found does really well.
No one was using them on the plate so I thought there was a reason. But it works well. I also use amsterdam but I like the selection of colors that Nova offers. Thanks for watching.

I really, really, like the first two stencils/mask. I don’t see them in your shop, are they for sale?
Thanks for reminding me. I will try to get them in the shop this week.
As a full print how would you rough in a black mini frame around the edges like a vintage photo
Not sure what you mean. It's not something I would do. Sorry.
Thank you for this video. What kind of deli paper do you use?
You're welcome. It doesn't have a brand name. I get it on Amazon. amzn.to/498i17b
Can you lay your wet stencils on a piece of paper to use the paint from them?
Yes, you can do that. My stencils aren't wet enough to give me a good print. So I don't bother. That would work with a paint that has a heavier body.
Where do you find deli paper? Isn't there a buffing pad? I wouldn't want to use my hands
I get the deli paper on Amazon. Love this one: amzn.to/498i17b. You can get a baren, speedball makes one. I like to use my hands so I can feel the coolness.
I like the music, it’s relaxing.
What kind of deli paper do you use?
I love this one: amzn.to/498i17b. It isn't folded in the middle. And pulls the paint well.
@@SusanCliftonArtist Thank -you
