    I'd wait until Moment (or another provider) creates a MagSafe Tripod mount that has a power input as well. Ideally you want the device to be charging via 15W MagSafe and then you can use the Lightning port for audio or data storage. Like their recent 12 Pro cases, they sold them without Magsafe and then sold versions with Magsafe. So, I'd wait until they released a product that actually had the features that a mobile videographer needs.

      Yes that is an excellent point. And would be good use of this tech for sure.

    Vertical mode would work for a side crane style shot. Like over a rail or over a stream. Emulates a drone shot.

    Would be better if it had a charger. Then it would be able to record audio and charge during shoots, since audio jacks don't exist anymore.

    Warning ⚠️ The short mount does NOT hold the phone vertically, its only for portrait mode. The short rise doesn’t get the magnet 🧲 in the right place. If you EVER want to have the phone held in portrait mode (facetime call?) just go with the taller one. In my opinion the short one is so limited in its use I’m surprised they made it - the tall one can do everything the short one can plus all the vertical aspects.

      Yeah probably just for more compact setups. But agree the larger one is more versatile.

    Clamp may or may not be durable, solution? You know...a normal phone clamp that doesn’t cost $50? haha I love Moment lenses, but much of their stuff is ridiculously priced.

    • @cardbored_
      @cardbored_ 2 года назад

      Uh, the clamps are a PITA especially on a tripod. Constantly having to adjust positioning so it doesn’t clamp on the buttons. Then the phone locks and you have to try entering your password with the phone rotated 180 degrees or tilt your head trying to use FaceID. Magsafe makes it wayyyy easier to adjust the angle and level as well as just pulling it off the magnet to quickly unlock. Have you ever tried using a clamp on a tripod?

    Current rumor is that the lighting port is now staying for the foreseeable future. If they ever get rid of it, they need to have some form of physical audio/data connection with the phone. Besides the videographers/filmographers of the world, but other industries rely on that lightning port to access the phone. Wi-Fi/BT just doesn't cut it right now.

      I hope you’re right. Would be ok with USB-C, but wireless not ready for prime time IMO.

    i have both the moment thin case and the thicker heavy duty moment case.
    1. i do not recommend the thin case for magsafe as it attenuates the magnetic power, but...
    2.strangely enough, the thicker case attracts much better to the magnets. it is like night and day. i have to actually separate it with both hangs from the apple magsafe duo travel charger. that is probably the moment case intended for this accessory.
    the thin case was a waste of money but i suppose it served its purpose for using moment lenses until the thicker case finally arrived. i think the heavy duty case may have metal or something else embedded inside, creating a stronger attachment.
    unfortunately i do not have that accessory but would be interested in finding out how their thicker case works with that magsafe tripod mount accessory. ✌️
    edit:
    it looks like moment made yet another thin case for the iphone 12 series which has a magnet array built in for magsafe compatibilty. that one is a pre- order expected march 31st... which means the other original thin case for the 12 series is a dud for this use-case. but i can say that their non-thin case is much better with magsafe support.

    Instead of Magsafe they should build a regular bracket with wireless charging - so one can charge the iPhone while a mic is blocking the lightning port. But who am I to ask for such gear....

    Is it feasible to have a magsafe-based ND filter holder? That would be awesome, not having to use a case.

    • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  3 года назад

      Possibly, that could be interesting. I think there’s a lot of cool things that will come from this new technology.

    • @Chuck8541
      @Chuck8541 3 года назад +1

      Good idea - although then it would be wrapping around to the back of the phone.
      I think it would be great if apple put some “mag safe” magnets around the back cameras (around the camera “hump” area), and then the ND filters - and maybe some lighter moment lenses - can just clip on right there magnetically.
      Good idea to use mag safe to do it! 👍
      Oooh...or imagine if Apple designed some built in hardware phone ND filters!? Haha Fun to brainstorm...

    I’m REALLY excited for this! The typical mobile clamps tend to be really cumbersome (but more secure) but I usually just need the convenience.
    So this will be great for tripod or sliders!

    • @iphoneographers

      For simple setups it’s totally fine. But anything more than that, totally agree. Although this is a first generation and who knows where this is going to go including adding power to your phone, audio capabilities etc. Interesting stuff to see advance.

      @@iphoneographers I shoot out in nature a lot, the last thing I would want is for my iPhone to fall into a gorge. If you've seen my videos, you know what I mean lol. I hope they don't do away with the lightning port, that would most likely render my mics useless.

    Hello, thank you for the video… do you know is there an arm you can use this mount with for desktop filming? I am a painter and I have strength issues with my hands so I struggle with the clamp mounts especially the spring-loaded ones? Any suggestions would be appreciated…

    • @iphoneographers

      I just connected it to a desktop arm that is often used for microphones and it works well for video using the mounts. Something like this… amzn.to/3KACHaS

    Thanks for the video, Blake 👍🏼. It would be nice to see how well it works with Apple's MagSafe cases. Does the phone stay level in the mount or will it move a little side to side resulting in a slightly crooked image.
    I have a 12 pro myself, I'm still a little on the fence about MagSafe for iPhones.

    • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  3 года назад

      The phone locks in securely so it won’t move unless you bump it or pull it apart. Definitely interested to try it with other cases including the MagSafe one for Moment. I suspect it will be a pretty tight connection. Thanks for watching!
