Re: Julie's Peace sign shirt...By 1974, the Vietnam War was over so unless the peace sign shirt is a hand-me-down from an older relative, it would not be historically accurate. Also, even if the story were from the late 60s or early 70s, little girls didn't dress like hippies unless they lived in a commune or something like that. Ordinary middle class parents back then didn't want their elementary school aged kids imitating hippies. I was a kid in the 1970s, and a typical 9-year-old in 1974 would have dressed more like the kids on the later seasons of The Brady Bunch.
I guess that made her look like a hippy because that's probably the post-70s child's idea of what the early 70s were like, so they went with that despite the time inaccuracy and Julie's age, and maybe they thought kids would somehow get confused if Julie didn't look as stereotypically 70s as possible. They still should've made it more accurate though, because these stereotypical portrayals of different time periods are the reasons why younger generation have these inaccurate ideas of each decade before them in the first place. Now that I think about it, it is kinda funny that they gave her the hippy look despite the fact that kids don't normally get to wear alternative fashion, like hippy fashion, until they become teens (maybe late tweens). It would be like having a historical doll of a nine year old girl in 2004 who is dressed in full on emo attire, hair, makeup, etc. 😭 The typical child would not be wearing all that, even if they wanted to.
@@LadyElaineFairchilde Honestly having a slightly edgier character who is getting into rock or goth music and starting to dress alternatively would be really cool. Like she has accepting parents who let her experiment with her style, but then her classmates tease and bully her, and her story could be all about self expression and treating others kindly no matter how they dress.
As I child of the 80s, I was OBSESSED with AG, read all the books, poured over the catalog each time one arrived, and wanted a Samantha doll desperately. So I saved all my birthday and holiday money (my parents kicked in some too) and finally saved enough to order her, but she was back ordered and they refunded us our money. Now that I’m a grownup with grownup money, have I gone and purchased a Samantha doll? No! Because they’re not the same anymore!
If you ever really still wanted Sam, you can find some on the secondary market (if on a budget, stay away from white body dolls) from the 1980s or 1990s. Earlier Sams will have a ribbon strip at the bottom of the wig cap in the back. Pleasant Company (as well as some early transitional dolls) will have soft, brown eyelashes. Mattel eyelashes are stiffer and black. The neck-stamp on PC dolls will always say Pleasant Company, however the PC stamp was used into the early-mid 2000s and became replaced with the AG stamp once older molds were no longer usable and newer ones had be recast (Kaya may or may not still have a PC neck-stamp).
I have a strong feeling that she will be the next re-release with original outfit & accessories. I wanted her as a kid, but my family couldn't afford her, so when she was re-released for the 35th anniversary, I didn't think twice about buying her with my adult money. No regrets there.
@ I wasn’t back into dolls as much for the 35th anniversary release or I absolutely would have bought her. I also have a feeling she’ll be the next rerelease, and if/when they do I’ll be there with bells on!!!
you’re so right! i was absolutely obsessed with American Girl and then they changed. i think another turning point was when AG started selling dolls with colorful hair. i mean they were cool at first but they basically just copied every Etsy seller who created custom dolls. probably also damaging the Etsy stores as well because custom dolls were more expensive so people chose to get the AG dolls. probably Create Your Own also hurt a lot of Etsy sellers too. (i haven’t done any research i’m just thinking out loud yk. why do you think)
As a kid that was always called Bright and knowledgable about English and history American girl made me feel sad because of the historical complexities, but also the fact that it was something I could understand and digest in a happy and healthy way. It’s so sad that they’ve condensed the stories into nothing more than Barbie and pink… I hope they fix it but knowing Mattel they won’t!
This is really sad…I’m not an AG collector but it makes me sad to know even these dolls are suffering at the hands of Mattel. It just seems like all dolls brands are suffering in this era. They have gone cheap and lost the magic that originally made them unique and fun. Great video!
I couldn't have AGs as a kid, but I associated the brand with history, so those types of dolls appeal to me the most. Not that I hate all the modern stuff but there are things that annoy me like the swarovski crystal dolls. Why is there an AG dressed like a Barbie, covered in crystals, and costs hundreds of dollars? This is so far removed from where AG started. The fact that this doll exists speaks volumes about the company.
I was 12 around the time of the rebrand and as a boy who liked dolls I was already kind of alienated in that space. So when I saw the complete overhaul of babyish party city, I was so upset. I had only just started getting interested in the brand around 2012 and had gotten my first doll dec 2013 so it felt like as soon as I really started collecting Mattel took away every aspect I loved. It was no longer historically focused. Even the face molds slightly changed! While I still was able to create memories at that time I always think about the 25 years prior I missed out on 💀 and how much money I’ve spent on the second hand market as I’ve gotten older LOL
i've recently gotten back into my dolls, and i've been so disappointed with the change in quality and new designs :( i hope the fandom never truly dies down since people still buy and seek the older dolls online! loved this video
It's funny, cause they way Mattel treats AG and Barbie should lowkey be reversed: - Barbie has been made more casual, relatable and is alot of the time representing real, everyday women and girls more than she ever has. Compare how glittery and pink the brand used to be pre 2014 vs Now - American Girl has been made more girlypop, with so much more pink, bright colours and overall younger, less realistic styles and fashions for both it's contemperary and historical girls. Compare the original Samantha and Julie to the BeForever versions of them.
I want more historical dolls! They think it's easier to make more modern dolls (and I include 80s and up as more modern) because since the creators lived through it, they can use their own experiences to make them. But the historical dolls that required research, and effort, and collaboration are what we really want... and need...
It truly is sad what American Girl has become, and I agree that the acquisition by Mattel is a big part of that. I was born in '93 and got my first AG somewhere in the late '90s when I was around five or so, one of the things I loved most about AG was the historical dolls, they were so fascinating to me. Kirsten, who was one of my favorites, was the one closest to my heritage with her being Swedish and my family being from Norway, but I also loved Josefina and Kaya, they were so interesting to read and learn about. As a now 30(!) year old, I recently went back and reread my set of Kaya's books as hers was one of my favorite series to read, and I was surprised at how much I actually still enjoyed reading them. I was expecting them to read a bit childish and very simple, but not once did I feel like I was reading a children's book. It was just as enjoyable as the first time I read them when I was still pre-adolescence, and I was so impressed by the Look Back in Time section at the end of each book. It amazed me just how much information they shared and what they talked about, including the ugly side of what happened during those times. I personally own Samatha, who was a gift from my parents and started it all, and Josefina, who I personally saved up for and bought myself when I was younger because I just thought she was so beautiful and I loved her clothes and everything. I always meant to get Kirsten and Kaya as well, but one hundred dollars was a lot for a kid to save up for back then especially for my family, and unfortunately, I got to the age where I started to outgrow them and then Kirsten was put in the archives. Thankfully I was able to get her Mini Me as that was a lot more affordable for me. I recently bought Kaya's Mini Me as well, I ended up having to go on eBay to find an original version as the one they sell on their website now is horrendous. Very cheap looking, the face almost seemed melted with printed-on eyes, she just looked soulless. As soon as I saw the original version it was like night and day, she looked so much better, better quality in manufacturing, better mold, just better altogether. I used to get so excited as a kid looking through the magazine when it would come in the mail, looking at the historical dolls and all the new items and playsets, now I look on their website and it just disgusts me, there is nothing new or original or even interesting anymore. And the historical line has been left to rot, they offer next to nothing with the older girls and the newer ones they've just slapped together and it shows that they've barely even tried with them. It would be nice if someone who truly loved the brand bought it and was able to return it to its former glory, but I highly doubt that will happen unfortunately when conglomerates can make money off of something they rarely let it go unless it drastically goes downhill.
wow, thank you so much for your thoughtful comment!! i have also been considering going back and reading some of my favorite AG books again :) and i agree, josefina is such a beautiful doll!
I love rereading the books as well. And looking at the older catalogs (I bought a couple late 1990s catalogs because my originals had been long gone). I still have my late-1990s club handbook as well and bought all of the historical cook books and craft books secondhand.
MixiePixie7 absolutely raised me. I remember finding the Tomboy Or Girly Girl video and instantly fell in love with the Sophie Claire and Cassie dynamic (Sophie was always my favorite family member, Saige and Asa being tied for #2). Her Christmas specials became a Christmas tradition for me. I still rewatch them all every christmas season. The AGTube does not get the love and appreciation it truly deserves.
I wanted a AG doll so bad but I missed getting one before the rebrand. I still got a doll, Maryellen, and I loved her!!! So I didn’t really mind. I didn’t even realize that it was a rebrand at the time. I was still interested. Especially since I have read many American girl stories at the library before. So I don’t think it was as such a big deal (at least on the doll side) I feel ever since 2020 though they’ve gone downhill even more and I can really tell more of a difference in quality with their dolls. I wish they can bring back the classic AG because it’s just clearly so much more a thought-out product compared to today.
There’s nothing wrong with adding new dolls like Maryellen! It’s getting rid of the originals and replacing them with less historical figures that’s so heartbreaking. I learned so much about history from those original 6
as one of the few black american girl doll collectors / enthusiasts, it breaks my heart to see the lack of imagination and more historical dolls 😢 it’s always been a dream of mine to see NEW historical dolls and accessories. at this point i’ll help them design it because there’s no excuse for american girl being this lazy. older gen z and millennials are old enough to be able to take the rings of this and bring life back into these advisory boards
I LOVED those 6 looking back pages at the end of each book. It made the history come to life and in an area with no history museums those pages and pictures were my peek into the past. Now I’m a high school history teacher! I hope girls today can still find the old books at their library and become fascinated with the history like I did
This was a great breakdown of what's been happening recently. I can tell you really care about the AG story and you articulated what lots of long-time AG fans have been thinking over the years. Well done -- I really hope AG can turn things around.
You make some very good points. This was a great school project. Thank you for sharing. I am a late bloomer to Ag dolls and AGtube as an older adult collector. It’s nice to hear thoughts and opinions from someone who grew up with the brand. 😃
This was such a good video!! It breaks my heart that they’ve moved their focus away from the historical dolls so much. Don’t get me wrong I loved the truly me and girl of the year dolls but the historical dolls have a very special place in my heart. I really hope you make more videos 💕
No joke, I have 8 AG dolls, and I got my first one in 2008 at the age of 7.5. I’m now 23. I remember the BeForever rebranding and at the time I was disappointed because of Molly being retired then (my second doll was Molly). I also love to see that other people also loved AGTube and it was a big part of the experience for me as well
This overall makes me so disappointed and sad I had one AG doll from a (thrift store) and was so excited when I got it. My mom would make clothes for her and I would play with her so much. I liked the differences in the dolls and eventually got a black one that I loved and played with just as much. It’s sucks that you can’t see that anymore with AG they shy away from any history that should be taught one way or another and they act like the only thing that should interest girls are rainbows and Disney princesses. I hate when big companies attack small businesses and am always offended how big companies always think as little girls as cash grabs and don’t try which was clearly not shown with early AG.
Their biggest mistake was selling American Girl to Metal. It’s a huge corporate company that only cares about a profit. Because of this American Girl has lost its original value. They have forgotten the historical accuracy and education behind the brand. I have Kirsten and Felicity, when I was younger I chose these dolls because I was interested in the time period of which they lived in. Maybe it’s just because I’m older but it seems like they don’t know how to pick a year in history to design a doll around. It is sad to see how far a wonderful company has fallen. And maybe one day they will realize it and save the American girl we all love.
I’m an American Girl mom and I have to say this is such a well done video! My daughter LOVES AG but we have noticed many of the same things being problematic. We were devastated when the store nearest us closed. Thanks for your video!
Great video! I love AG products. I have so many great memories of playing with AG dolls with my daughter and eating at the AG cafe with family. My Mom loved the AG store and all the magic of the brand. I am Julie's age and her Be Forever outfits are not accurate, I would have never worn anything like them. But, I did have some of her earlier outfits like Ivy's rainbow romper, the gaucho pants and boots. I also had the bandana dress.
I used to be an AG RUclips creator. At one point I had almost 40k subscribers! Maybe you were one of them… Thank you for making this. It showed up on my recommended. I totally agree with everything.
This is very well done 👏 I grew up on American Girl in the 2000s and completely share your sentiments here. It is tragic to see consumerism overtake and distort something so incredibly magical. I think one of the best ways we can have influence is with our wallets (aka how we spend our money). Hopes for positive change 🙏
I think American Girl is also just trying to keep up with "trends" I understand that the other people who play with these want a more mature look, but these dolls are supposed to be 9 years old. They are supposed to give girls the confidence to be who they are and that they don't have to follow the trends. On the creativity front they are just simply running out of ideas.
Thank you for sharing this video. As an adult who got her first doll at 10 in 1993, my heart has broken slowly over how the company I loved has declined over the years.
You did a great job creating your documentary video. 🙂 I am also a fan of American Girl dolls 🇺🇸 and I am disappointed with the new changes that Mattel did to them. 😢 I do believe they will go back to the original concept of AG but only time will tell. 🤔
I loved amarican girls when I was little. I read the julie books with my dad and my parents got me a julie doll. I remember when the be forever line came out and they got rid of her friend Ivy and I was so sad because I was saving up for an Ivy doll. My parents got her for me and had been storing the doll at my aunt's house. I loved amarican girls and the books and movies but not the be forever line. I still got a couple other dolls after that but it kind of went down hill from there. Then I got older and stopped thinking about it. I still keep my dolls so if I have little girls one day I can tell them how much they meant to me.
I was of the age of Julie. My mother was slightly older than the age of Kit, but as her little sister was of that age, she vouched that Kit's clothes and accessories were accurate for the most part. Julie's were a tad bit off. But 80% accurate. PS Mattel is on their way down, and really starting to curse everything they touch, with the POSSIBLE exception of Barbie.
Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I agree with your conclusion. Maybe a group of fans could buy it and run it as a historical non-profit where the money from sales is out right back in to research, writing, and development.
I started collecting AG dolls when I was 10 I got Kirsten and I fell in love with them, I was able to get 2 for the year and was super grateful for that, the quality was super good back now it’s trashy and I’m 26 now so I understand exactly what you mean
My daughter and I read all of the books before she started collecting the dolls. Her first doll she got was Kaya the Native American. The doll was poorly made. Many of her friends also got that and they were all poorly made. The limbs were loose and the back of her hair/wig was low quality. We mostly started adding to her collection by buying older dolls on ebay.
I got my first AG doll as an adult. Our family could never afford such a thing when I was a kid and with there not being much media if really none at all back then besides commercials I never really knew about them It was not missed. As soon as I saw Molly though as a grown woman I I knew I had to have her. With her glasses, brown hair and gray eyes she looked like me. I have purchased many a doll since then but do prefer the old ones, the newer ones are cheaply made, and they do the same ole same ole over and over again. I am intrigued by the Moana doll beautiful though. I think the big appeal is that she is different.
Another problem is that the newer dolls were either historically inaccurate (Kit, Julie, Courtney and the twins) or were replacements of the original girls (some girl from 1812 is a replacement for Felicity, a Hawaiian girl was made to replace Molly, and another set of twins).
This brings back memories - visiting my sister in Chicago in the 90s we would hit American Girl Place on North than Borders and FAO Swartz on Michigan Ave before driving back to Wicker Park blasting lil Kim and No Doubt. Good times.
I had AG as a kid the first doll I got was one those truly you or whatever they were called dolls. Where like you pick the doll that looks most like you, only hard part was they had 0 dolls with short brown hair so I ended up having a doll with short blonde hair
I started making stop motions with my dolls before the terms AGTube and AGSM were coined. I started making them in 2006, along with vdag94, and starryeyeschick. I was inspired by Our Dolls who had made stop motion videos with their dolls that were feature length and put on VHS and DVD, using many of their dolls and stuffed animals. They made some of the videos before RUclips itself started. We were the real AG RUclips founders but never get any credit due to not having channels that became as large as basilmentos, etc. Some parents have given their kids AGs at ages younger than the target, all throughout the history of the company. The oldest sister from Our Dolls got Kirsten in 1988 when she was two, for example. With so many of the dolls being passed down and bought for younger girls, AG took notice of that. I do miss the Pleasant Company era of the 1990s, when I was a kid and got into AG (except the original page showing all of the AGoT dolls-I opened to that page with the first catalog I got and it freaked me out! 😂. Thus it kind of delayed my getting into AG by a couple of years). Unfortunately if AG stuck with the old model, they would be long gone as a company. Felicity, despite being my favorite and first AG doll (only one as a kid), was one of the worst sellers which brought her to becoming “online only” in 2001 (at the time, I wondered why they didn’t rotate which character was left out of the different catalog issues and was sad it was always Lissie). With regard to why Nicki and Isabel H. don’t go into 9/11, historical fiction, from what I read several years ago, has to be fiction that takes place at least 25 years ago. Although part of me was bummed that the twins aren’t from the mid 1990s, those of us who were ten around 1995 have the REAL 1990s historical doll(s)-the original American Girls of Today which came out in 1995. Many are available secondhand for a decent price, as are several of the old AGoT outfits (I’ve gotten a couple of mid-late ‘90s dolls from eBay as well as several outfits and accessories that I always wanted as a kid). Felicity had been my only AG doll from 6th grade until I was a sophomore in college and got back into collecting through the forums and movies. I wish I had collected more as a kid, yet I also wasn’t sure my parents would buy me AG for Christmas (I used Christmas and birthday money to get Lissie) because of the price. I didn’t get up the courage to ask them until college.
I grew up with AG and i remember how early 2000s and mid 2000s they were more different and higher quality. Like wow clothes that aren't always pink n colorful. And shoes that aren't always high heels. The prices were painful for me but i enjoyed them. I still have 2 left but not interested in them anymore. I prefer smaller scale dolls
I hate to say this but the sold out to Mattel. Look how Mattel destroyed Barbie. I have collected both. There is nothing like Mattel bleeding something dry
We all drew peace signs on everything, everywhere, all the time. Smiley faces and the flowers too. Her shirt is totally perfect for the 1970’s. Ask us. The ones who lived it…..
Gotz are the most good factory and brand doll. When the dolls are made by then the dolls have the most high quality. But then start made in china the quality decreased, and when mattel bought the brand, quality dropped as they used increasingly cheaper materials to make more profit
The 1990s China made AGs were still high quality. My Felicity (my first and only childhood AG) is from 1997. For a brief time in the early ‘90s there was also a factory in New York. I have a 1991 Molly that has a hang tag saying “doll made in USA”. I learned more recently that my childhood Bitty-like toddler doll was indeed a Gotz doll. Before I got into AG, I went through a phase where the sleep eyes scared me so I had gotten rid of the toddler doll long ago. As an adult I realized that the face on that doll looked much like Bitty so searched and found that the doll was a Gotz doll. While part of me now wishes I hadn’t gotten rid of her, another part of me knows it eventually made way for me to get a Bitty Baby and Bitty Twin doll. I also didn’t care for the Gotz doll’s rooted hair (I’m fine with my 1987 Cornsilk Kid Cabbage Patch Kid’s hair being rooted yet she has more/thicker hair that covers her head better).
I love American girls, they are awesome and so many accessories, but they are very expensive, target has good accessories for American girls, yes it's OG but they are just as good. I think you did a wonderful job with your video and information on the American girls, keep up the amazing work young lady, God bless you and your family ✝️🇺🇸🙂👍🏻❤️
I totally resígnate with this video!! All of the points you brought up are valid and I wish American girl would start to change back to their old ways. Especially the books, they are some of the best parts. I have a question, are you still collecting the brand and keeping up with it or do you mainly keep your dolls as a keepsake/memory. I am a junior in high school and I still collect and adore my American girl dolls 😅
@@madelyn9359 hi sorry i just saw this comment! i haven't really kept up with the brand or bought anything in the past few years, honestly my collection stays in the closet most of the time. however, since making this video my interest/passion has been sort of reignited and i would love to get back into AG content! oh and please don't feel bad about being a fan because of your age! heck i'm a freshman in college lol. its so much fun and i feel like those who get it, get it yk
Hopefully, something can make American Girl a better company like a new owner, or maybe another doll company will come out for girls that is different than Barbie
This is how it goes, an average everyday person invents something everyone loves. a big company comes in and swoops up all the materials before the "small" company can get it and/ or can't afford to do it anymore. Then the big company convinces the small company to sell to them, and they pretty much have to or stop the line that everyone loves, no more say from the company who started it. Selling your soul to the devil is becoming a big thing for small businesses and consumers alike.
Also We as fans and collectors have had to make custom boy dolls before they released their own 18 inch boy dolls and the custom creature your own dolls in general. Theirs amazing Doll artist who do amazing AG customs and Alot of the time way better then AGS CYO. Then theirs the World by us dolls controversy aswell
You’re a very talented video person for a young person, but I will say those quotes go by too fast to read. We need a longer pause to read the twitter (or insta or whatever they are) little banner quotes.
i just remember when they first came out feeling like it was a betrayal to what the brand stood for. though i will admit i've warmed up to the idea now, and have even considered getting one myself. hope this helps!
I tuned out altogether when AG collaborated with Disney and Barbie, and created all these horrible rincesses. Pleasant Rowland should be outraged...her original mission is completely forgotten!
Sure but the beforever was strongly needed for Samantha, her original collection was very ugly especially her meet outfit!!! Julie needed also some refreshing start her meet outfit could have been left alone tho, Rebecca needed also a new meet outfit because her original was absolutely a no for me and as for the rest of the original American girl dolls they were good
You obviously have no idea what historical fashion is. These bright colors of right now didn't become a thing until the 1950s at the earliest, but they were different tones. Neon colored clothes were a thing of the 1980s and 1990s and cheap Halloween costumes.
@@TiaBelle123I saw a video recently that one of the oldest natural dyes came from the ocean and were a bright, hot pink color. Bright colors have always been used for various items, including clothing, artwork, etc. There are different variables, such as time, that cause the colors to fade. They weren’t always those faded shades. Some of Samantha’s original dresses were largely based on the 1980s “victorian style” which was going through a popular phase. I’ve heard from several collectors who had dresses similar in style to Samantha’s Cranberry Party dress when they were kids in the 1980s. Thus some of the original historical outfits weren’t quite authentic styles from those time periods but rather where then-modern takes on the earlier time period styles.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of Samantha’s meet dress, but I really liked her other dresses , especially her middy dress, school dress, and play dress and pinafore.
@@CherishedPlaytime Actually my Grandma would have been just a tad younger than Samantha, and I have childhood picture of her and her two sisters, and according to that picture, Samantha’s dresses are fairly spot on.
The new styles do look cheap. You’re right. They blend with all the brightly colored Walmart toys.
I was a kid in the 1970s, and a typical 9-year-old in 1974 would have dressed more like the kids on the later seasons of The Brady Bunch.
ooh thanks for the insight!
@@mynameisreallycool1 LOL at the idea of a 2000s American Girl doll dressed like she's going to a My Chemical Romance concert.

While I still was able to create memories at that time I always think about the 25 years prior I missed out on 💀 and how much money I’ve spent on the second hand market as I’ve gotten older LOL
i'm so sorry that was your experience. and yes, i wanted to comment on the new face molds too! i really dislike most of them 😅
i've recently gotten back into my dolls, and i've been so disappointed with the change in quality and new designs :( i hope the fandom never truly dies down since people still buy and seek the older dolls online! loved this video
It's funny, cause they way Mattel treats AG and Barbie should lowkey be reversed:
- Barbie has been made more casual, relatable and is alot of the time representing real, everyday women and girls more than she ever has. Compare how glittery and pink the brand used to be pre 2014 vs Now
- American Girl has been made more girlypop, with so much more pink, bright colours and overall younger, less realistic styles and fashions for both it's contemperary and historical girls. Compare the original Samantha and Julie to the BeForever versions of them.
thats so true!!
Right? Most Barbie fans (myself included) miss the All-Pink-Everything glitter-tastic style of Barbie. 2000s Barbie forever!
Ruthie was my first doll too! She is just the best. I love her sweet grey eyes.
@ yea. I know that many like the new dolls added during the Be Forever collection just the changes made to the old dolls are bad.
this video is so well done!! thank you for bringing light to these topics 🫶
as one of the few black american girl doll collectors / enthusiasts, it breaks my heart to see the lack of imagination and more historical dolls 😢 it’s always been a dream of mine to see NEW historical dolls and accessories. at this point i’ll help them design it because there’s no excuse for american girl being this lazy. older gen z and millennials are old enough to be able to take the rings of this and bring life back into these advisory boards
Well done -- I really hope AG can turn things around.
thank you so much! i hope so too 🤞
You make some very good points.
Hi!! I was in your class and I was very impressed when you presented to the class! Very informational.
oh thank you! you made the balloon fiesta doc right?
@ Actually the sticker doc!
@@madrice1005 ohh yeah okay i remember! y'all's was so cute haha
No joke, I have 8 AG dolls, and I got my first one in 2008 at the age of 7.5. I’m now 23. I remember the BeForever rebranding and at the time I was disappointed because of Molly being retired then (my second doll was Molly). I also love to see that other people also loved AGTube and it was a big part of the experience for me as well
Ain’t We Got Fun from Kit playing in the background made me so happy.
Even though we couldn’t afford the dolls. I loved reading the books as did my nieces.
I just read your introduction…before I had even seen this was for a film class, I thought “that girl is a good student.”
awe thats so sweet, thank you :)
Pleasant Roland hated Barbie and never bought them for her nieces so she created American Girl
Watching this video was heartbreaking. AG has become the very thing it tried to avoid.
this is an excellent, well-researched video! i can tell you have genuine passion and love for the brand
Maybe you were one of them…
Thank you for making this.
This is a wonderful video. I’m very impressed!! Keep up the great work.
errmm you are so well-spoken and beautiful. I can tell American Girl raised you 🤩
How about the fact that they’ve RETIRED dolls?! That will never fail to make me upset
exactly! ugh and its always the best ones
I still keep my dolls so if I have little girls one day I can tell them how much they meant to me.
awe i'm so glad you got your ivy! she's such a precious doll. and my mom always tells me that same thing, to save my dolls for my kids haha
I was OBSESSED with basilmentos when I was younger. I got my jly 38 signed by basilmentos at a meetup!
awe no way thats so special!
You rocked this video. Very enlightening.
This is so good!!! I always dreamt of getting my future kids their own dolls and it’s sad to think that it’ll just be another barbie doll to them
Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I agree with your conclusion. Maybe a group of fans could buy it and run it as a historical non-profit where the money from sales is out right back in to research, writing, and development.
I hope you got an A on your project!! ❤
I think the big appeal is that she is different.
omg i agree i actually love the new moana doll!
Thanks for the video. I learned a lot!
Another problem is that the newer dolls were either historically inaccurate (Kit, Julie, Courtney and the twins) or were replacements of the original girls (some girl from 1812 is a replacement for Felicity, a Hawaiian girl was made to replace Molly, and another set of twins).
Great video. I've subbed, and hope to see more informative videos maybe in the future.
awe thanks! if i post more in the future, my plan is to focus on AG doll centered content
Excellent video, brava❤
Thank you so much for this video. I was so upset with new print cheep outfits next to the WDE (weird dolly eyes) and now all this Disney nonsense.
I loved at the end of each book they have a few nonfiction pages talking about the history of the time. The originals did anyway.
very well said and well put together video!
I agree with you 100%! Great report and very well done! I wish they hadn’t sold to Mattel.
100% agree, I collect and I rarely buy from American girl directly anymore I mainly just buy items that were sold in the 90s from ebay 😭
PREACH!!!
I LOVED my Molly doll 🥺 my sister had Emily!
Not easy buying $100+ dolls when you have Our Generation and My Life As for around $25. and the Disney Ilys for $30+.
Overall though, current AG dolls are still higher quality than the last two years of Magic Attic Club dolls.
They DESTROYED julie 😭😭😭
Love your video❣️ although it makes me kind of sad☹️ maybe someone will take notice🙏
Totally agree!!!❤
I love American girls, they are awesome and so many accessories, but they are very expensive, target has good accessories for American girls, yes it's OG but they are just as good.
I think you did a wonderful job with your video and information on the American girls, keep up the amazing work young lady, God bless you and your family ✝️🇺🇸🙂👍🏻❤️
awe thank you so much
@@emmydollies Your welcome 🤗✝️🇺🇸❤️
Did not know AG is attacking costume creators on ETSY!!!! I think I am done with AG now. Will take my $$$ elsewhere.
Excellent video 🤩
Great video!!🙂
Hi I’m a new subscriber, Love reading 📖 these books 😊❤
Love American girl I buy most of the kid gifts from there. They never disappoint. Great quality
Let’s face it Pleasant T. Rowland was a businessman first and foremost.
pleasant is a woman
@@gingerdean1521 sorry, I meant to say businesswoman
Then theirs the World by us dolls controversy aswell
omg yes i used to be so obsessed with those doll customization videos! ooh i haven't heard of the world by us controversy??
Plus they are making a theatrical movie and I’m scared that they may not be good
That was interesting thank you
Way back… to 1986😢
Are you looking to get into business? If so, you SHOULD buy the company someday!

Why be against boy dolls?
i just remember when they first came out feeling like it was a betrayal to what the brand stood for. though i will admit i've warmed up to the idea now, and have even considered getting one myself. hope this helps!
I tuned out altogether when AG collaborated with Disney and Barbie, and created all these horrible rincesses. Pleasant Rowland should be outraged...her original mission is completely forgotten!
STRAY KIDS ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
haha i wondered if someone would notice the posters
