- In the Philippines, there is a thriving black market that sells babies. Many women who are living below the poverty line and cannot afford to raise a child are making the difficult decision to sell their babies. Natashya Gutierrez for VICE World News speaks to mothers and brokers to understand how this trade works.

I pray that the babies grow up alright. You never know what the buyer actually wants to do with the baby. This is so disturbing.
Exactly what if a predator adopts it
First thing that comes to mind.. so heartbreaking
This exactly what I was thinking throughout and would hope was going to get addressed
Child porno to name a few.
It is really fucked up
Praying has been done for centuries and has never helped. Faith is only to keep sheep in their slave power. If there is a god, then why dictators in power. The country where you live is responsible for what happens. The best changes are only promised during the elections. Helping the population itself with its own people. And nobody does that, neither do you. and praying is for slave sheep.
Unfortunately, this isn’t uncommon. Many babies in the Philippines are sold. My cousin was actually an ampon. Her mother was very young and couldn’t take care of her, so she was sold off to my Tito and Tita. They couldn’t have children of their own. Luckily, they’re very loving and decent people, so she got the love she deserved, but unfortunately, many babies aren’t so lucky. My cousin is now married and expecting her own child
How do these "ampon" get their birth certificate?
@@ndnd6209 usually people who are trying to buy a baby off the dark web or Facebook tend to have lots of money, an you can buy fake birth certificates off the dark web for cheap its like 25 i think usd
God bless I'm happy to hear some babies do have a better life
I read Chinese men can't find enough females to marry
I am curious. Is it usually common knowledge when someone bought their baby? How does your cousin feel about it? Is it like regular adoption for them or is there some resentment toward birthparents or parents?
It really makes me upset when women ask to get their tubes tied and they are told. They are too young or can still have children. Let the woman make the decision. Especially if she is in severe poverty
I agreed with you . I detest abortion ,but see nothing wrong in preventing conception in whatever way the woman / couple wish . However going ahead with a pregnancy then selling a child is horrible to my mind. Babies aren't commodities ; but God will judge everyone through Jesus Christ.
@Dawn-Songs The Christianity that you "follow" doesn't even approve of contraception. And you "pro-life" folks need to understand that it's not just elective abortions that are effected by the law. A woman died recently in TX because doctors were afraid to preform an abortion that would've saved her life. Women are being forced to have stillborns because they're no longer able to just end a non-viable pregnancy.
Ughhh we live in a sick broken world. It is too late to save the Earth. Having kids nowadays is selfish.
@@ItsDanny91 I entirely agree . I was 25 when I had my tubes tied . I live in the UK but no way could it be done on the NHS unless due to medical necessity . I had one child but knew I didn't want more . In the end I worked and saved to pay for the op to be done privately and I have never once regretted my decision .I could focus on looking after my child fully but knew that more kids would stress me too much . My husband was not happy with me at all , even though I had told him honestly and clearly prior to our marriage how I felt... but he was sure that I would probably change my mind after having one child .There was absolutely No Way that he would agree to 'the snip' as he called it, for himself , so it was up to me . There are too many children living in poverty . I consider sterilisation to be a much better thing than aborting and unwanted child .

Not easy here in Canada either. My doc kept telling me I was too young I may change my mind 3ct ect. even though I already had children also now in my 30s. It really isn't as easy as ppl think. Also here, we have a waiting list when they do finnally allow it, which can take up to 2 yrs even. Not right. Any women should be aloud to make that choice for themselves everywhere !
This is what happens when you make contraceptives basically impossible to access.
They better fix this fast before they see having kids = making money.
Exactly. Adoption is human trafficking. Im adopted. Get an abortion.
contra ceptive is always available in health center..all you have to do is ask..and it's free if they are really willing.. cause that's what I do.. you can even buy contra ceptives pills in drugstores..
In my country contraconception is free but poor people have at least 8 childs
Honestly sterilizing people would be better than this
people here doesn't give a f about contraceptive or any family planning method.
As an adoption child from China, this gives me shivers. One of my biggest fears is to get kidnapped, to get put into human trafficking circumstances, to be sold as a human slave and to live years and years in someone's basement with no food, water or freedom.
I honestly reflected so much on it since childhood. About the fact that it could have gone REALLY wrong if I was adopted by the wrong people. Or that my parents sold me to "parents" who were actually the face of a trafficking corporation.
Luckely I've gone to a good family through legal adoption, who have given me so many opportunities. They couldn't get kids themselves so they resorted to taking care of 2 adoption kids and 1 foster kid. I owe them so much.
PS: I don't know my birth parents. My adoption mom told me that the adoption agency told her that they found me under a bridge. And that someone took me to a home. I don't know if that is true though, because they could have made something up. What I do know is that there was a one child policy in China at that time. In the end, I am thankful for getting adopted legally and safely.
❤ Well I'm glad ur safe and had a gd loving family..my prayers go out to to and ur future!❤😢
You're incredibly lucky. I heard they used to throw girl babies right off the cliffs in China during that time.
Бог тебя любит и бережёт❤🙏
You don't owe your adoption parents anything - it's your birthright to be cared for and loved unconditionally. If you grow up with an underlying sense of that you owe to them something, something is not ok. But I'm happy to hear you feel you have been taken care for in a good way. It sounds you're doing great👍
Wish you the best

This is disturbing and heartbreaking! Poverty and corruption is so rampant in the Philippines and the children become so vulnerable to these illegal activities 🥺
Legal adoption isnt any better.
All over the world 🌎 evil is being uncovered.
But we’re so pro life
And this is why we have to bury religious beliefs, its influence, negative impacts and moral superiority behind, make the separation of church and state more pronounced and think progressively...
Using of contraception and sterilization techniques should be a norm, should be easily available in health centers and cheap & easy to access outside of that... and abortion should be destigmatized, because abortion is not an easy topic to discuss and be implemented but as we have seen.. Child trafficking is rampant and thus, we have to do something for these children..

When a woman tells you she doesn't want to have kids believe her. We need to stop pregnancy BEFORE it happens.
Or also if you don’t have access to contraception then stop having sex all. This is disgusting that these women would prefer to have pleasure or pleasure someone else and then sell off the baby like an object. They are also involved in those crimes…

The patient WANTED to stop her pregnancy because of her current circumstance but another authority tells her she might want kids again??? That's messed up!
Yes, the reproductive health here in the Philippines is crazy. I went to my LGU's health center last year to express my desire of getting implants. I was denied for it. I would have understand that the implants were free but limited. They said that they'd prioritized other "less fortunate" women. Alright.
But the healthcare worker had to add and remark (non verbatim), "Your intention is questionable. You have no children, no partner, not active, yet you want to get one? You'll change your mind soon enough, in less than a year, I bet."
I swore I was flaring at her. Told her that there'd be no changing my mind and I know how long the implants had to stay in me. I researched it. I studied it. And I wanted to feel safe. I WANTED SAFETY.
The healthcare worker was IMPOSING her ideologies on me. Told me that I should opt for pills and condoms instead. I replied by saying I don't feel safe with the other two options. The last part of this unbelievable interaction was she said that if I began being "active" and have had physical relations, I could come back to "try and get the implants again."
WHAT THE HELL????????????????? Tanginang yan.
its like that in many countries unfortunately :( even in aus. while ligation and stuff is available, medical professionals seem to push back at every attempt - giving exactly the same reasons like "you don't have kids yet" or "what if your husband wants kids" (even if the person doesn't actually have a husband) - its unfortunately very common to push these ideologies on women regardless of circumstance :( I'm sorry to hear about your experience I'm sure it was very upsetting :(

You think vice is making an extreme profit from a RUclips video? Keep in mind, there are an entire crew of people that are involved in the process of sharing this news story. There's at least one investigative journalist, producers, writers, translators, editors, and more. For the high value production they're giving viewers, they don't make the amount of money a regular television news station does because this is only on RUclips. Facts but they not going
The Philippines needs to revisit its adoption law. I just don't get why a developing country needs to have a very tedious adaption law. I get it they just want to protect the children and avoid human traffickers but that is also the reason why these mothers tend to go on social media to sell their kids. Furthermore, the Philippines needs to conduct more family planning programs in these areas.
They need to make abortions legal, so they don't need to have an unwanted child an sell it.
The Philippines is a catholic nation therefore abortion is illegal and is heavily stigmatized.
@@redacted_vombat5742 I know that abortion is heavily stigmatized, but it doesn't change the fact that it would solve this problem or at the very least make it much smaller.
@@lolo_o4309 family planning doesn’t just mean abortion… the woman in the video was not allowed to have her tubes tied despite being homeless with 4 kids and a spouse that’s disabled
It's tedious because, well, look at how America turned out with it's foster care
I wish there was a way to support these families. That’s absolutely heart breaking.
you can sponsor a child or a family. It's only about $39 a month to change their lives - many charities online that help all over the world. You can choose who you wish to sponsor. But check their charity status first to see what their ratings are - how much goes to the poor, and how much they spend on admin.
As someone who was in the foster care system in the US and watched multiple people be adopted legally from overseas before being mistreated abandoned or plopped into foster care I really have to wonder if this is actually any better because people who adopt legally often put their children through the exact same things as they do if they had been adopted illegally or trafficked. If someone's willing to spend $50,000 on a legal international adoption just to sexually physically emotionally or otherwise abuse that child is it really any worse that people are doing it without government oversight because the exact same thing is going to happen either way.
I voice typed this comment due to physical disability and did not bother to try to edit it.
You're absolutely right that the same issues are going to occur regardless. I think the main difference though is that a legally adopted child is at least registered somewhere in the country's system. So, they have a higher chance of being accounted for if their name is isn't enrolled into a school by a certain age or if they hadn't gotten certain medical shots. With an illegally adopted/trafficked child, the country's system isn't able to account for them. Their adoptive "parent" doesn't have to put them in a school or give them their shots. They can keep the child locked up in a basement and no one in that country would know they're "missing" or being "mistreated" because they're not registered. Basically, no one knows they're even there if they were brought over illegally.
The legal option at least gives children a higher chance of being noticed (by teachers, doctors, social workers, etc) when it comes to their wellbeing. In that sense, the illegal option is definitely still worse for the child.
Working as an assistant and seeing and hearing some crazy things and I agree and disagree with what you are saying. Legal adoption is essential in place to ensure the safety and well being of the child but with lack of support from family services negates the legal importance of adoption. Plus the adoption process is lenthly and costly and often denies deserving families the ability to adopt for silly and impractical reasons Honestly alot goes into making this subject so complicated and alot of it has to do with the money being passed around behind the scenes.
Much love and joy to you xo
Very valid point here
It might help people who really want kids but due to prices of adoption they can’t afford it. I think if it was cheaper I’d definitely be adopting alot of kids.
heartbreaking, but i can't say i blame the mothers "selling" their babies. they have more control over where the child ends up (since an orphanage often isn't much better than just living on the streets) and they receive compensation that they need. it's so heartbreaking that they have to resort to that. philippines govt, get your shit together and stop preventing women to have access to birth control and make the adoption system easier.

As a first time mom this made me cry. I couldn’t be able to do this. I hope this baby is safe with her new family. 🥺
This is so heartbreaking. This is so fucked up and there's no monetary compensation. These families need help.
You're right, but compensation is but a small problem compared to procreation. Wealthy countries are somewhat aware that there are countless adoption-children available, which is why procreating in a wealthy country is somewhat considered senseless and selfish, but the "somewhat" is the real problem. As long as procreating is falsely deemed a human right, when we really don't need to in the slightest, children will end up in horrible situations.
What do you mean no monetary compensation, they are literally selling the babies for money
Wish we can come together and get a group home for mother’s together there that provide them with resources food etc help them with their life having children a non profit some kindve way we can raise money for this Vice you report it but what are u doing to help I believe we are all apart or the problem we can record it but we can’t help support it they are us and we are them what if what they endure happens to us it’s so much money circulating in this world no human being on earth should be enduring poverty or homelessness if all our governments wanted true change they would’ve made sure of it yet we have chaos wars etc rather then peace an ending homelessness and poverty and starvation we are the problem the entire world
I love reading what kept people have to say about us adoptees that have lost everything because of adoption and the drama it actually brings to our lives. But you just keep talking about facts and knowledge and lived experience that you do not have. 🙄
@@DezaRay24 It's not adoption, but the subsequent situation which determines your quality of life. In some situations, adoption is the best thing that could possibly happen to you - that is, when moving from an abusive family to a compassionate family. Sadly that's rare.
In other words, for "us adoptees" there's a wide range of experiences as well. Some adoptions go well - the trick is to know which, and why, and say "fuck no" to all bad adoption families and/or bad adoption institutes. The courts should take notice, but probably won't, as they never have.
That being said, I do agree most adoptions go poorly, though that's mostly because the religious motivation is in play for many adoptive parents. Gullible parents cannot provide a good home for anyone except themselves.
Thank you for these videos so sad it breaks my heart and grieves my spirit.
These children are being sexually exploited and abused once sold away from their parents. So incredibly sad.
That was my first thought. Certainly not all of them, but after viewing this video, I now understand where some of the children come from that are used in the sex trafficking trade. Child pornagraphy, Satanic ritual and sacrifice. Earlier in my research I learned that some of the social services and orphanages are run and operated at the top by the global elite. In some of my research some of these orphanages and organizations have ties to Papal Romanism. The amount of evil I have learned that goes on is beyond comprehension and really causes one to lose faith and hope in the goodness of humanity. And it seems to me (as the Bible says) wickedness is only increasing.
I have always held to pro choice and personal privacy.
Why abortion and other private matters are now in the public sphere for discussion and in the governments hand is a sign of what is to come.
Prior to the 20th century all over the world, people took care of their private business privately.
And with big global government intervening, nothing got better. Something to contemplate.
So many horrible things can happen to this babies
Some predators know this already and will purposefully travel to these countries to take advantage of children and babies. It’s sick and sad.
Honestly its a choice of family or baby, family is more important
@@kaleb7414 what? the baby is family . youre sick

@@andivest1504 No, it's clearly not to them. It's just a tool to make money.
It’s sick that we live in a world where our LEADERS aren’t providing people the necessities to have at least a home to live in. All of these things we work for, we can’t take when we die. HELP others. There’s no telling what people are doing to those babies. It’s sad. Like WHY sell kids who are easily manipulated.
No monetary gains for the birth mothers to go the legal way. Yet the adoption agencies and all other legal routes charge "adoption fees" to parents who want to adopt. No baby is free anywhere in the world nor should it be. Yes the process should involve screening people and have standards but agency's shouldn't act like they give kids up to adoption for free. Money has always been involved in the exchange for children one way or another. Not hundreds but thousands of dollars during the exchange. Go look up to adoption especially foreign adoption and it's irrational how much the costs are. Thousands of kids grow up in adoption facilities because not enough people have that kind of money to adopt kids. Crazy way to exploit couples who can't conceive, kids who are not wanted and mothers who are forced to give up their babies because of dire situations. Adoption agencies are not perfect angels, they have deep pockets.
That’s not true in the uk it’s free but very hard in the uk peeople get paid for foster care but it’s one of the only countries that forced adoption is legal in
This is everywhere its very expensive to adopt in my country they make it that way cause they are afraid if it free what if you exploit the child you adopted ,or sell the child etc ,that's why they make it expensive ,people who adopt in my country are only rich people middle class and lower class don't cause its very pricy ,and so that causes a network of them buying babies in maternity wards, the nurse swaps your baby with another person's dead baby and sells your child .
Are you serious right now? You need to actually go listen to some lived experience of us adoptees and see what we actually have to say about adoption before you write a novel about adoption. Adoption in every single form is trauma for us adoptees.
Just wait when you find out that the adoption agencies sell some of them too, give them out to elites ans pedos
@@DezaRay24 Why is adoption a trauma? Growing up in a violent, neglectful home, better? I wish I had been adopted as a child
in America there's such an intense addiction crisis, "parents" here sell their kids for damn near free just to get a hit or bump. Very dark and cruel governments that should be doing more for citizens internally.

This is so sad, innocent souls are brought into the world without love, care, and an uncertain future. How many of those children end up in trafficking... women in this country need massive contraceptives and a lot of education...

That just seems outrageous. I would like the family to still be able to be apart of the child’s life like an open adoption even if that means that means a yearly visit to their native country. I believe that mothers should receive donation from families that are adopting their loved ones. I’m so blessed and thankful and would like to help out wherever I could.
The US just overturned Roe V Wade. Expect more of this. Maybe think of the human carrying the clump of cells and their emotional wellness.
And expect a lot of dead women dumped on the streets.
You will never ban abortion just safe abortion
Propaganda and lies. Roe v wade does not allow abortion. Only gives power to the states to decide instead of the federal government. Quit spreading misinformation. It’s really disgusting.
And what’s the other alternative that your suggesting? That they should just be aborted? Killed? This is no different than what the traffickers are doing, just a shortened version. They wind up dead. Absolutely sick 🤢🤮. Clearly what your saying hasn’t or won’t fix the problem. Trafficking is a major problem and was going on before roe v wade was was ever overturned.

I really hate that doctors don't let us get tied when requested cause we're "young". It should change. It's reversible anyways.
Some doctors do in the US and Canada. There are resources to get connected with doctors who will. It depends on where you live tho unfortunately. Its still a huge problem in many countries. Women should have the right to opt out of motherhood if they choose to
I dont even want to know the kinds of people who'll get those hands on those poor babies..
....the worst, quite often. Pedos buying a toy, basically. :(
It's even more sad because there is a rationale...the women are making a heart wrenching yet a practical descision, as much as this is worthy of hate, so much is also worthy of deeper delving and a second thought...crackdown on all of it, but also take care of the women and their child, this is very difficult and nuanced a discussion such as legalising prostitution..
Exactly. There are so many complex issues that it's impossible to just villainize the women that sell their babies. They need to survive in a country where the government is not even trying to help the poor. It starts with education, sex ed and etc.

@@Khyarro This country has a lot of Christan and that means one thing abortion is illegal which is I am against, rape cases should be allowed to take abortion in my opinion because first most of them doesn't want to be reminded of what happened to them and who knows maybe they cannot afford or not suited to raise a child? They should have the right to decide if they want to raise the kid or not. And slums? Most of them doesn't have the money to live and yet they continue giving birth blaming the government because of what happened to their life, yes we have the right to blame the government but we also must think of our actions in life don't just blame the government whileyou're doing nothing to better your life. There are many kids in thr streets and that's the fault of their parents.
In school I have learned about sex and they teach it to us I don't know in the other area of the Philippines though. All I can say is Christianity (their beliefs) plays a big part why women are denied for others options for contraceptives.
Looking at some comments here. It's apparent to me that despite ppl here looks to be financially rich, simple empathy is definitely lacking. Lots of self-righteous ppl here who prob never experienced real poverty similar to the reality challenged SCOTUS.
I agree. It’s not right at all, but a lot of these women are caught between a rock and a hard place. Because of their circumstances they truly feel they have no other choice if they want their other kids to survive.
My cousin was openly jealous that most of our family had kids. He was single and gay, so he decided pay a poor woman to get pregnant (didn't care how) and he "bought" the child from her. He bribed the local hospital to help forge the birth certificate so the birth father was him and the mother was his friend. It's horrific when he proudly told me how he got his daughter and I never spoke to him ever again.
The poor kid is already four and could barely speak and socialize with other kids. She could only babble and hit other kids or roughly take their toys away. She also isn't potty trained yet or enrolled in a proper pre-school. I could tell something was not right, her care and development is severely lacking. But because her purpose was to be flaunted online, no one questions the photos of a child in fancy clothes...... I wish I could tell the authorities on this, I needed to see this kid saved from neglect. But I don't know how, not with this corrupt system in our country that made her situation real in the first place.
Birth simulation (the forging that happened here) is illegal under the Revised Penal Code and punishable with 6 to 8 years imprisonment. However, the recent RA 11222 complicates things as the government offers amnesty to offenders up to 2029 if they rectify and adminstratively adopt the child subjected to birth simulation. The process of making your cousin liable would have been easier without this amnesty law. Even so, there are provisions in the law for protevtion of children who are abused. In a perfect world, there exist a clear recourse wherein the child can be truly protected. The problem here is that the government itself favors the situation of a child having a parent rather than none. The bar here for neglect is so low that as long as the child is fed and clothed, it could be enough for the authorities to say that the child is in good hands. Especially, absent the evidence that the child is subjected to physical and sexual abuse.
Maybe it's nature's/evolutions way of saying " over population problem will be solved by more gay people in the world!"
And more gay people in the world = more kids bieng adopted
This broke my heart these poor babies 😭
Abortion has always been highly controversial, however, it should still be further addressed and/or talked about. Young people, more specifically children and teens, should be educated about sex, sexual consent, and contraceptives. Adults tend to steer themselves away from teaching young vulnerable individuals about the consequences and effects of engaging in various sexual activities. For them, sex is a major taboo. Within the constraints of a conservative religious household, just merely uttering the word ‘sex’ could even land you into big trouble with your parents and possibly other family members. There’s just so many children and teens who have been affected by this cycle of abusive power or uneven dynamics in a particular ‘relationship’ so to speak between an adult and a child.
Abortion is disgusting.
