    Just subbed. Great list. In the States and dream about the GG Tea Pot Dram. But do have their CS Batch 006. Very, very nice with some walnut notes to go with those dates, figs & raisins and oak.
    Also enjoy the 2017 Macallan Classic Cut.

    That's a solid review of the CS lineup. A couple of batches of A'bunadh I have tried were/are pretty good and so is GF 105. Yet to get my hands on and try GD, GG and ofcourse to top that list the Solist Sherry CS. Geoff over at GWhisky in Taiwan recently did a full lineup of Solist reviews and as you have stated, Sherry CS sounds awesome! That is some serious natural color in Glengoyne and Solist.

    I think Glenallachie 10 CS has now surpassed A'Bunadh and GF 105, unless their muli-cask aging has disqulified them. IMO

    I would suggest trying Old Perth CS. Despite being a blended malt, I was very surprised by its quality, way better than Glen Farclas 105 and almost as good as Abelour Abunadh. It is an amazing whisky... and very cheap!

    Subscribed! Great list you have there but I would have added the recent Edradour 12yr CS Ibisco bottlings in there for sure. Edradour is probably the best in the sherry game right now imo. Cheers sir!

    My 105 has got to be bourbon matured. It looks like an Ardbeg. I need to dilute it with GF12 as I dilute the Glengoyne batch 8. Very hot babies.
    It's amazing how these NAS are priced under $100, more than a 12 year old and less than a 15. I just paid $200 for a Kavalan Single cask. It's not a Soloist but the price is half, I see Soloist for 4-500. Haven't opened it yet but I'd be surprised if it's much different. I'd be more surprised if I ever try a Soloist to know for myself.

    • @MaltActivist
      @MaltActivist  2 года назад +1

      Almost impossible to buy Solists now without breaking the bank. I'm happy with what I've got.

    • @jackthepickledhound
      @jackthepickledhound 2 года назад

      @@MaltActivist yeah...it's dark as hell. 57.9% and comes in a stupid $10.00 leather case with a brass latch. Just doesn't say Soloist. And no distilling date.
      The kavalan "range" is not so obvious like scotch so I just went for it. I was swayed by Mike and Dustin getting all hot and bothered by their Soloist last month.
      Damn Whiskytube!

    It's crazy just how dark and almost black some sherried whiskies are! I guess it has to do with how the barrel was treated before filling and how much sherry was extracted from the wood while maturing. I would love to know more about the science "black magic" behind preparing the barrels for filling. I could be wrong, but I think Ralfy has a video about this? P.S. - I just found a bottle of Kavalan Solist Sherry Cask Strength for $200. Apparently they're going for $300 here in the states. 🙄

    • @MaltActivist
      @MaltActivist  2 года назад +1

      Definitely massive charring and a super potent sherry cask. On top of that extremely high maturation temperatures. No wonder the liquid looks like coffee! Will check out Ralfy's video re the same.

    • @jeffreykasel3387
      @jeffreykasel3387 2 года назад

      @@MaltActivist I've never been to Taiwan, but I can only imagine the humidity. Those casks at Kavalan probably get no rest...lol. However I have a few Scotch whiskies that are almost black in color too. Ralphy mentioned in that video if you empty a cask during warm temperatures, like summer. Then more of the content is still in the wood. So maybe those extreme 1st fill sherry casks were emptied of their sherry in the summertime??

  • @pablov9212
    @pablov9212 2 года назад

    My wife and I started out enjoying bourbon and American whiskeys, but have trended to scotch as the quality seems to be falling in the former while increasing in price.
    We have figured out that we particularly love Oloroso casks and appreciate the content! Without a decent nearby Scotch selection in bars, exploring can be cost prohibitive.
    We are also looking forward to your review of the GlenDronach CS batch 10. The GlenDronach revival was the first to really get our attention with its faint black cardamom, and will be good to know if it's worth the trouble of getting to the States.
