  • The K100 is Corsair pinnacle offering and is premium from start to finish. The main selling point is the AXON processing which unlocks 4,000 hz key scanning and 8,000 hz hyper polling. It’s goal in life is to take you to the next level by reducing overall latency, while still looking classy AF, and draining your bank account while at it. So, let’s get nerdy.
    The specs include two different switches listed below. Along with double-shot PBT keycaps, Dynamic per-key RGB backlighting with 44-zone three-sided RGB LightEdge, Precision-molded PBT double-shot keycaps at 1.5 mm of thickness with standard bottom row layout which helps resist wear, fading, and shine. AXON Hyper-Processing Technology, ICUE control Wheel, Six Dedicated Macro Keys, Support with Elgato Stream Deck, Durable Aluminum frame, USB pass through, dedicated media keys, cable routing, two step vertical step ups, magnetic detachable memory foam palm reset.
    A recent update increased the Polling Rate to 8,000 Hz from 4,000 Hz. But the Key Scanning is still 4,000 Hz which means there is still a bottle neck there.

    Great review, have been enjoying the mix of Humour / Huge amount of detail covered! Recently tried Huntsman Mini with Linear switches loved them but couldn't adjust to 60% now with G915 TKL Linear switches. Would you pick the switches on this over the linear g915 TKL? Mainly for competitive gaming

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  3 года назад

      So, I have the Logitech G915 TKL with clicky switches that I was using as my main board before I got this keyboard.
      As for the answer to your question I guess the simple answer would be yes, as the K100 is now my main board and I use the G915 TKL as my secondary board when I want more movement since it is wireless.
      The complex answer is I don't know if I would recommend buying this keyboard over that one. I do think these Optical switches feel amazing. Which is why I continue to use this keyboard and didn't return it. I also find it to have more features (G switches, better media controls, num pad), and look slightly better (has a wrist rest, better more vibrant RGB). However, it's freaking HUGE. So I greatly miss the G915. As it just takes up like no space at all because it's a TKL and also because it's so low profile. Last you don't need a wrist rest because of that low profile so you can just use the desk instead. I also type a lot faster on the G915. I also like that it is wireless and makes my desk look a lot less cluttered. It's also got a very premium look to it.
      As for you specific question. Competitive gaming. I constantly go back and forth. As the low profile design and TKL nature allow me to put my hands in a more comfortable position when gaming while also allowing my mouse to move more. Which I like a lot. With the switches being low profile the actuation point between both of them is nearly a wash. If you game in the same room as someone else the G915 as you know doesn't make a lot of noise which is also a nice aspect. But I do think the switches feel more premium on the K100. Also, with them being optical and the 4,000 Hz they are objectively faster. Now can you tell a difference subjectively? I think I can. Now that I've used the K100 for months I feel a lot slower and not as quick and responsive when I use other keyboards in EVERYTHING. Which includes me typing up this comment (went back and forth between them both) and the K100 to me feels better and more responsive. I would say that also comes across in games. It just feels faster, more responsive, and more premium in games. But that is by a small amount. I'd compare it to using a 60 Hz monitor vs 144 Hz. At first you don't really notice a difference. But after using it for an extended amount of time you miss it when it is gone and something just feels slightly off. But unlike 60 hz to 144 Hz I don't think my ability to perform at a high level is really impacted. It just doesn't feel as smooth and responsive. Since keyboard movement for games is already not super great (compared to a joystick which gives you super good granular control) I don't think it effects my game as much. But if you play games that require a button be pressed ASAP then you may see more of a difference. But again I'm not sure by how much. As regardless they are extremely close.
      But again for $230 I don't think I can recommend buying a whole new keyboard just based on feel and a mild bump in performance that some would probably argue is placebo effect anyways. If you are wanting the other features then I would make it more worth it. But I think the G915 TKL is one of the best keyboards on the market. So, if you have a bunch of cash to burn then I'd try it out, compare them, and then return it if you don't like it. If you don't have a lot of cash to burn I don't think you'll be missing a lot. If you do pick it up I would absolutely love to hear your thoughts on the K100 and if you think I'm full of crap or not.

    Should I go with this or razer widowmaker v4 pro, I like the el gato incorporation

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  6 месяцев назад

      Honestly, the Corsair K100 and Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro are both excellent choices.
      I'd probably go with the Razer Huntsman V3 Pro over the Blackwidow. Simply because Analog is awesome. Especially, with the new adjustable actuation switches from 0.1 - 4.0 mm when not using the analog function and immediate reset where if it moves another 0.1 mm it will reset the key. Making it extremely responsive. Add that to games that do support analog function gives you a lot better control in those types of games (like a controller). Which is excellent for like GTA or Cyberpunk or similar. Where you want the high precision of mouse along with better movement control. Makes a big difference in driving games. Along with having your media keys. Making it very versatile. It doesn't have 8,000 Hz. But with the adjustable actuation makes it faster usually. I haven’t tried this one. But I do have the Wooting 60HE which is very similar. But I think this is slightly better as it comes in full size and TKL over 60%. And it has dedicated media keys with the same feature set (at this point). But may not be better than the Wooting 60HE as they really nailed it. Size is nice but not having arrow or media keys is frustrating so you’re stuck using secondary keys. (FN+ another key) to get stuff done.
      Otherwise, the difference between them is going to be minimal. Technically, the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro has 8,000 Hz polling rate and key scanning. Where the K100 is 8,000 Hz polling and 4,000 Hz key scanning. Will you actually notice this in real world? Probably not. But if I’m spending premium money I tend to want the best of the best. I think Razer’s variant of the left dial is better done. But I like the media keys better on the K100. But the Blackwidow still has media keys so technically a wash. I think the Blackwidow also has better RGB by a noticeable difference. But Razer’s software isn’t as nice as Corsairs. I also think that Razer tends to have more padding and “enthusiast” features inside the keyboard to make it sound better. Unless if something has changed (as I haven’t looked recently) the K100 is the typical hollow inside. Where I thought the V4 Pro and V3 Pro have foam padding and stuff. Which really does make a difference. Build quality is going to be similar between them both and could go back and fourth on stuff which I think equals out in the end. The optical switches from Corsair feel sublime. I think better than Razer’s variant. Again, both are excellent. But if I were buying a new keyboard I would do
      1. Razer Huntsman V3 Pro (I use my Wooting 60HE to game 95% of the time)
      2. Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro (which I use when not gaming and with typing over the Wooting 60HE as I like it so much).
      3. Corsair K100. Which is in my closet. While the feel is sublime. I got the K70 TKL with the same switches and polling which I prefer as I like smaller keyboards and don’t need a dedicated numbers key. Which is also use but a bit less than the Blackwidow V4 Pro).
      All that extra was just to say that all of these keyboards are so awesome that I have a hard time not using them. Lol. So I tend to keep all of them around so I can use them depending on my mood.
      As for the Elgato integration. I don't use that all that often anymore. So I can't mention how that would bias the opinion in any meaningful way. Which is why I didn't mention it.

    The only thing that would make this keyboard perfect would be to buy some pudding keycaps because then the RGB really pops and shows itself with certain effects running on it. Luckily I managed to bag a deal for some Hyper X pudding keycaps for £11 for which ALL The keys swapped over perfectly (now that Corsair has finally settled on the standard keycap sizes) apart from obviously the G keys but then I like them as they are anyway so no loss there. The spacebar has the hyper X logo but that's easily to sharpie over and also the RGB doesn't show up as well on the spacebar but that was always going to be an issue so maybe that would be the 2nd thing i'd like to see changed is to add a couple extra RGB's nearer the end points of the spacebar, maybe integrate it as part of the standoffs.

    • @ThomasMuehler
      @ThomasMuehler  Год назад

      All fair points that I’ve had myself. Even bought me some pudding keycaps and put them on for a while. But I ended up going back to stock keycaps after a while and still prefer them. I don’t know why but I just think it look slightly cleaner (as I think pudding keycaps while gorgeous are a bit more gamery) and more importantly prefer the feel. There is just something unique about them. But again, I had pudding keycaps on this guy for a long time.

      @ThomasMuehler  2 года назад

      It was after I made this video that the software allowed you to increase the polling rate to 8K. Otherwise I would have mentioned that in the video.
      So, it now supports 8,000 Hz hyper polling which is then still bottlenecked by the 4,000 Hz key scanning.
      As the Razer Huntsman TKL V2 (and I think all the Huntsman V2 range?) supports 8,000 Hz hyper polling and key scanning. Again splitting hairs here.
      But I've found 8,000 feels a bit more responsive than 4,000 hz. Mostly notice it every so slightly when I move back to a 1,000 Hz keyboard in a move dependent game. But not worth upgrading specifically for but is nice to have if you are.

    I don’t know about this claim. I bought it this week from Amazon, but I found the STUPID design decision to make every key smaller to fit the G keys on there, which 99% of people will never use a poor design decision. They should have just made the board wider and kept the keys the same standard size and spacing but it’s just too small and narrow. So ordered the ROG Azoth 2 days later so could try them side by side and I’m sending the K100 back. The ROG not only feels nicer due to the spacing but the keyboard feels nicer and sounds better. Also the cable is far too stiff making moving your Keyboard a pain if the cable goes down the back of your desk for tidiness. Shame really because I have a Corsair 5000T case and other components so it all synched beautifully with the K100. But no point having a pretty lit keyboard if typing on it is a nightmare due to the scrunched up keyboard.

      I think you made excellent points that I totally agree with. I think when this keyboard originally came out it was very good. And honestly, I still think there are a lot of good things about it.
      However, you made an excellent choice with the Azoth. As it has some newer modern features borrowing some very needed features of enthusiast/custom keyboard market. Which is what makes it feel a lot more premium and sound nice too. But isn't as quick from a latency standpoint. But is also wireless and has bluetooth. Which I think most people would trade for. Also, no dedicated media keys. Which I use a lot so like. But again, you made an excellent choice. And yes, this title hasn't stood the test of time. But as linear, optical switches go. I still think this guy has some of the nicest feeling switches. Too bad the board itself hasn't been treated. Also, the keys on the K100 I believe are standard size. Just the PBT keycaps are slimmer making it easier to reach other keys for gaming. If you swap it out for normal keys they should feet normally with wider keypress space. If that makes sense.

      @@ThomasMuehler Hi. Thanks for replying and the useful info. Ah right OK, so the base size of the keys is standard but the tops of the keys narrower? It just felt so off to me. Some people said you'd get used to it, which you would I guess, but then when you use a standard keyboard all day in your job too and on your laptops I don't think I would have got used to it. Defo would if it was the only keyboard I used. I did some typing tests on both keyboards looking at how many mistakes I made and it was far worse with the K100, which if you only game on isn't an issue I guess. But I also work from home few days a week so it's nice to have the standard size but yes, I didn't think I could just swap them out so that's a good point well made, but then I think that would be how much on top another hundred maybe? So yeh I'm sad I lost all the nice lighting sync capability, but I am happy with the choice of the Azoth, it just feels so beautiful for like you say, a non custom keyboard but with a similar feel and sound :)

      Yes, as far as I know the base of the keys are standard size. But the tops are narrower. Which can definitely take some getting used to depending on the keyboard you're coming off of.
      I think you could get used to it. I work on a laptop all day long at work too. And usually didn't notice a difference since was a "normal" keyboard and my "normal keyboard" at home. But I'm also someone who acclimates to things very quickly. So maybe am not the best one to ask.
      Keycaps vary quite a bit. I think a good set is like $25 - $50. With most of them being around that $25 mark.
      Also, if you got the optical switches. They require very little force with very short pre-travel and total travel. Which takes some getting used to for typing as well. As barely resting your hands can activate the key. Where most other switches have a lot more force to actuate along with being like .5 mm longer or sometimes 1 mm longer distance before they actuate.
      Who knew so many things could relate to keyboards! lol @@iio58

    It could be that I don't care enough about Mechanical keys.. but that spacebar sounds terrible to me.

      I would agree with you. It is quite loud and terrible sounding. I did some mods and it made it a lot better (foam, I think I did tape, and also added some tape inside the spacebar itself to make it less hollow preventing soundwaves from moving as easily.
      In general, I think spacebars are hard to do correctly. Which isn't me letting them off the hook, just saying that I think most companies don't do anything actively to combat that. But with "custom keyboards" becoming more mainstream we are starting to see big brands make changes which is nice for us as consumers. But this keyboard is not part of that bandwagon.
