    EDIT: Yes, yes I do understand metroidvanias. Saying backtracking is time consuming does not mean I want a linear game. Metroidvanias are about exploring but after backtracking through magmoor caverns for the 20 millionth time, that doesn't add any thing other than pad out the game's length. It's a late game problem that would need a clever fast travel solution. That would absolutely not ruin metroid nor does it mean I don't understand the point of a metroidvania. This isn't my first one and other metroidvanias have figured fast travel out without it harming the game.

  • @MidasImperius
    @MidasImperius Год назад +55

    there IS a hint system for finding the artifact keys, although the game doesn't really tell you that that is what it is..
    in ridley's boss arena, you can scan the statues and they'll give you log entries that explain where each key is hidden, and they'll have a room name highlighted.
    looking on your map, you'll see that whenever you have a room highlighted, the room's name will be displayed in the UI. match that up with a key's log entry, and you'll know you need to do some extra sleuthing in that room to find it.
    But even with that, some of these keys are just a massive bitch to find, like that power bombable wall in phendrana that is completely camouflaged against the scenery. and at least in the original game, wasn't scanable.
    the only way you'd know that there was something behind it was if you turned on your xray visor, which.. why the hell anyone do that in the first place? using xray to look through rocks never comes up anywhere else in the game that i remember.

    • @larrote6467
      @larrote6467 Год назад +5

      also there isn't as much backtracking when you already know the order of things; usually you return to odld areas via new routes

    • @samy29987
      @samy29987 Год назад +8

      The hint for that specific artifact in Phendrana's Edge literally says: "look for the unseen entrance at its top". And by that point in the game you know that the visors are helpful to detect invisible objects and enemies within the world.
      If players can't put 2 and 2 together, that's really on them.

    • @LowerBlack64
      @LowerBlack64 Год назад +3

      @@samy29987 There's also the fact that there's a door marked in the 3d map. People give too much shit to that artifact. I'd argue the one that needs the tower to be knocked down is way more obtuse.

    They absolutely nailed the controls in this version. The Wii-style pointer controls with the JoyCons is a nice touch too.

      I like using Dual Stick and then enabling gyro. Lets me use the joycons to whip around the room quickly and then fine time my aim with motion. Makes canvassing areas for scan nodes a breeze. It would have been nice to have a way to do the lock-on dash without being locked on to something (clicking the sticks in are unused), but oh well.
      I feel like the "bar" between remaster and remake mostly comes down to if mechanics are adapted to new controller schemes and allow for new ways to play that you couldn't accomplish with the original controller.

    Metroid Prime is my favourite game of all time and even to this day it still holds up for me. Probably one of my most played games of all time is Prime 1 and 2. The environment, gameplay, lore and especially the soundtrack is amazing. Metroid Prime is one of those games where i generally have no complaints about the game aside from how backtracking can be tedious at times. And as one of the comments said. The Artifacts can be scanned and hinted at in the artifact temple. They give you hints on the room name and it's up to you to look around the map screen to connect dots.
    Although the remaster does see new and improved animations, for example the Wave troopers bursting from the ceiling has a completely different animation compared to the original but it looks a lot more life like then the original
