About your safari zone clause. I'd say go for it! You do this, and we watch you, primarily for fun after all. And one of the points of a nuzlocke is to use stuff that you don't normally use in the base game, that'd allow for a lot of weird encounters that you don't normally get to use in these games. I personally give myself access to half as many pokemon as there are areas in the safari zone, picking and choosing the areas I want to step into the tall grass/surf in.
My safari clause is if a Pokémon flees it isn't considered an encounter and you can search for it again, but im allowed only one encounter in the entire safari zone.
@@yonathanafrewki2161 this! I absolutely cannot stand banning encounters. Silph recently did a monotype normal type run in soul silver which I was SO excited for only for him to ban 75 percent of the pokemon I was excited to see because he "used them" before. Completely ruined it for me. Took 5 days to get to end because of how disinterested I was. It also made me hesitant to click on his videos in case he uses that stupid rule again. Regarding the fossil clause: I'd just recommend dropping the route requirement entirely when you're doing monolockes or other challenges that already restrict available encounters to like 5-15 pokemon. The route requirement is normally important for nuzlockes to restrict the amount of possible encounters, but with something like a monolocke that is already baked into the challenge, so the route requirement becomes pretty pointless.
Or even just have Found/Gift encounters be exempt from that. You can only *catch* one pokemon per route, but anything you get from other means is fine.
I think a safari zone clause would be perfectly fine if it means you have more fun. It would be cool to see pokemon like Tyranitar or Tauros in a run one day so my vote is yes
About the safari zone, i think that fleeing pokemon is the stupidest thing, so i would implement a clause that makes it so you can try and catch the pokemon even if it flees. But i still think you should only get 1 pokemon for the safari zone, maybe one new zone encounter per badge with HGSS cause of how many encounters the HGSS zone can have.
Basically something like: Your first encounter in the safari zone determines which species you'll be able to catch. You get infinite attempts to catch one pokemon of that species?
I have two different ways I handle the safari zone depending on my mood when I'm getting ready to enter it. Safari Game as an entire encounter' You get 30 balls and X steps to try your hardest to catch something. Must sincerely attempt to catch everything you encounter until something sticks (no running unless Dupes/Species or banned {such as non rock types here} and no deliberately trying to aggravate a Pokemon you don't want into running from you.) Encounter Per Area: normal Nuzlocke rules, interpreting each Zone as an Area. Safari 1, Safari 2, etc
this is easily the best way to implement a safari zone clause (SFC for short) and I will make it a concerted effort to bring it up for every video in the future.
It's great seeing a nuzlocker actually evolve their trade evolutions. And yeah for the safari Zone it was always meant to be a fun bonus area and doing theme teams already limit the amount of viable encounters so I think an encounter per area is totally fine.
I think editing the rules for the safari zone is a good idea. When it comes to hardcore nuzlockes with small pools of allowed encounters, I think allowing for more makes it more fun.
I love Nuzlockes like this that end up having an actual story to them among party members. Bowie, the starter, the leader of the group, and the one who became a powerful set-up sweeper falling in the battle against champion Lance, followed by Joplin, the newest member found right at the border to Kanto, taking up his role and leading the charge through the second half of the Indigo League, reaching her true potential right before the final battle and landing the finishing blow that marked the end of the entire journey. I know it's dumb and cheesy, but behind all the Shuck-nanigans and failed attempts to low level grass types, there's an actual sweet story being told in this little pokemon adventure.
The safari zone in a nuzlocke has always frustrated me, so I like the idea of a safari clause! I allow myself to catch the first encounter in each area and then when I leave I release them all except one.

Also, I think the Safari Clause you proposed is a fair rule, especially for monotype runs since those limit your encounters so much. Edit 2: Same for the Fossil clause.

rock types suuuuucks their big sale point, the defense is useless since they SE weak against fighting, the only good is neutral to sand, and SE STAB against fly... it's difficult to see why someone like rock type
I think a safari zone clause could work great! Some options: 1) Whatever the first encounter is, you throw balls until you get it, and if it runs, you keep grinding that area until you get another encounter of the same exact pokemon, rinse and repeat until you've CAUGHT your first encounter, ignoring all others in the whole safari zone even if they're of the same type for monolockes 2) One encounter attempt per zone of the safari zone, potentially netting a ton of encounters, or potentially zero. 3) You keep encountering until you catch one, and the first one that is of the type you allow is caught. So if you found rock type 1 first, then it fled, and you found rock type two, and it got caught, then your "first encounter" is rock type 2. You just keep chucking balls at the type you allow until one is caught (this applies for monolocke and regular ones)
The Safari zone clause sounds like an amazing idea! It would make your videos even more fun to watch then they already are. It would also make your monotype runs a bit easier. This rule seems like a good idea for you and the viewers. Love your content FlygonHG, Keep it up!
On the note of the Safari Zone: I've usually played two ways, especially HGSS where the areas are wildly different. 1) treat each area as the first encounter and whatever happens happens-- gives more encounters, better for games where the Safari Zone areas have lots of different Pokemon 2) you only get one encounter for the Safari Zone, but it's whatever you happen to catch (eg if four different Pokemon run before you catch a fifth, that's the Safari Zone encounter)-- better for something like the Sinnoh Safari Zone where pretty much all the areas have the same Pokemon I think either would work well in a monotype run, and I hope you come up with a good Safari Clause later!
What about combining the two? Each area counts as an encounter, but you have to choose which caught pokemon counts as your catch (assuming you caught at least one) for the safari zone as a whole?
@@SSardonic again it's totally personal preference, but I personally think that rule is a little easily abusable in more homogeneous safari zones (ie Kanto and Sinnoh), where there are a lot of dupes and desirable encounters. Part of the appeal of the Safari Zone in any game is that it usually has rare, strong, useful encounters that you wouldn't get anywhere else. It also doesn't help too much in games where the encounters are wildly different, since typically the safari zone would have two encounters of similar types. For instance here, in a flying type run you could get Murkrow, Dratini, Jumpluff, Doduo, Fearow, all in the safari zone. I think it makes the challenge a little too easy if you get to pick and choose. Sorry if it seems like I'm just bashing you, but I wanted to explain my logic here
honestly one of the most enjoyable runs so far, rock is a fucking tough type for these challenges but that final team you had was surprisingly scary. great stuff altariahg!
Currently doing my first ever Hardcore Nuzlocke on Emerald. I have new respect for you pumping out these videos as quickly as you do. Even after all the preparation things can just...go wrong. Mad respect to you lad
I think there is no RUclipsr that I enjoy more. Thanks for all the great content! I love your videos. They are just the right Mix between comedy, drama and great pokemon action :)
I can definitely feel like this is going to be a challenging one- the rock type is always one that's.. hit or miss, as a whole. Can't wait to see how this turns out! Really excited to watch another banger video, Dr. AltariaHG "OneBallHG" FlygonHG! Edit: Wow! Bono actually put in some work in the late game! I'm actually really impressed, considering how bad Macargo is.
I'm also for a Safari Zone clause update. Different zones or first successful catch, if you run out of balls you're out. Either way, you put in the work to restart and do your best to honor the rules, but if this makes the Nuzlockes more fun and engaging for you and reduce burnout and keep content rolling then I say definitely go for it. We love what you do and hope you love it too man!
The humor on this video is as amazing as ever haha! Another amazing run, man. Glad to have been a fan for around 9 months or so :) Edit: I say have the safari zone exception OR the fossil one that way it’s still challenging while still adding to your team. Lastly, the dark background is very helpful - makes it easier to see what’s going on.
i’m loving this new layout!! it makes the video feel warmer (??) if that makes sense, loved the video dude. as always, it was great and i thoroughly enjoyed it. keep doing what you’re doing because you’re one of the best pokémon youtubers going!
Safari zone clause should be added. The clause should either allow for rerolls, but you can only catch one, or it should treat every zone as a separate area. One or the other, but not both.
Been watching you for a few months, just re-watching everything here & on the highlight. I really enjoy your scripts and the process of nuzlockes, even though I've never played a video game before. This challenge was really cool, I liked all the different strategies you had to use for each new attempt.
i loved the shucknanigans, they are the most determined way to win, battles are not just pokemon throwing punches and using various fancy looking moves, it's about who has the wits to prevail, shout out to turner for being the champ of this video
If the encounter list is very limited splitting up the safari zone seems like a really good idea to get some more verity in the runs and have more tools to work with. I'm still a fan of only one fossil as you have an active choice to make there whereas the safari zone can be more random.
"Bowie just got one more stone edge pp left here, but sadly he'll never get to use it.". Bro I nearly cry a least a little in these nuzlocke challenges, you really know how to pull on my heartstrings. ;_;
12:30 could also have been Tranquil Fury setting in, one of those times where you become *so* murderously enraged that it loops back around to being disturbingly lucid.
Cool, I loved this one. I think any clauses which would allow more Pokémon encounters are good. I don’t care so much about it being a super strict hardcore nuzlocke, I would rather you are able to have some fun with it and have more Pokémon variety. And I like the new layout.
Love the videos your time, effort, and care in all of them is very evident. I'm a huge fan of Monolockes so this one was a blast (pun intended) to watch!
Your content has gotten a lot lot better over the last few months, you are definately finding your spot and even making me laugh. Your revenge on that tangela was priceless!
I tried this challenge out a few months ago. Needless to say it was a nightmare, even if Johto is much easier for rock types than other regions, the overall set spread of stats of most rock types surely poses a heavy burden. Though, glad to see rock types get some love on this channel! Keep up the good work!
I just finished my pokemon emerald quetzal run, not the hardest hack but it was very fun. I've learned so much about nuzlockes with ur channel, thanks bro.
First off, thank you for the consistently interesting and hilarious content. Second, I think a Safari clause would be a good addition. Especially if you're doing an already difficult challenge, not dealing with fleeing RNGesus and getting a wider pool might allow for more varied strats and fewer Shucknanigans. (Not that I'm trying to f***le with Shuckle)
Loved the video! I am in favor of a Safari Clause! In my nuzlockes I use Marriland's rules which is whatever Pokemon you see you attempt to catch, if it flees on its own you can just try again with whatever Pokemon appears next. So long as you just keep throwing Safari Balls at it you're good. But running means you forfeit the Safari Zone encounter altogether. Truthfully I don't remember all of the specificities of his rules, this is just my personal adjustments on the ruleset based on my loose memory of it and if you come up with something else/ better I am happy with that too and might even incorporate it into my own runs! Always looking forward to your next vid!! :D
Gotta love the nice touches here and there: the original production to make up for the lost footage of how the Geodude went down to Bellsprout's Vine Whip, and the ten seconds of how Snorlax's hp went down after getting hit by Rock Wrecker
I'm against the Safari Zone clause. They are often far more powerful pokemon that would make the game easier and the whole point of Nuzlockes is to have a challenge.
I completely agree that a safari zone clause would be great! Not sure how I feel about the fossil clause--think it depends on the run and amount of encounters you get; if you can't feasibly beat a run without it, or have basically no encounters, I doubt anyone would say no. Love the new layout as well! Do think it'd be better not blurred though if that makes sense. Always happy to have a new vid out ❤️
i don’t usually comment on youtube videos, but i wanted to take the time to tell you how much i enjoy your content and personality :] you’re one of my favourite youtubers and no matter what you do i’m always excited to see it! I definitely think a safari zone clause would be great! pokémon fleeing from it is unavoidable and that locks away so many options so i think you should have a clause for fleeing :] also regarding the shucknanigans, it’s your playthrough! you can do whatever you want! if people don’t like it, they don’t like it and they can go play it themselves but you should be allowed to play how you want to play even if that means using safer and less exciting tactics, i really enjoy watching you do things involving stall and i don’t find it any less entertaining than just brute forcing your way through everything, keep it up man you’re my favourite poketuber and i love your content no matter what it is!
I've been watching you since your first nuzlocke vid and been catching your streams recently so i know how careful you can be. but never did I think that I'd see you wipe to a single Tangela 10 levels lower 😂
Only 3 more left! Guess it's safe to assume that you'll revisit Alola for the Ghost Monolocke, while for Steel it'll either be Sinnoh or Unova. That just leaves Ice, which I think would be the most fitting end, since it's a "pick your poison" type of deal, where you'll have to choose carefully which game you wanna Nuzlocke it in, that'll give you the most number of encounters.
Everyone speaks of safari & fossils, which I agree, so I won't add anything. But the layout. I saw no one mention it. It's so ASMR now, so smooth, beautiful, comfortable, amazing !! + Great challenge as usual !!
your Nuzlocke, your rules! i say the safari zone clause would help a lot with potential encounters, especially if they flee. losing encounters to circumstances out of your control SUCKS.
For me, I think a safari zone clause would be cool! Because there’s not really a way to control a Pokémon fleeing, I think it’s more than okay to reencounter until you catch the Pokémon. Someone else recommended one new Pokémon per badge if there’s more than one applicable, and I think that’s a really good idea! It still limits encounters but allows for some more strategy deciding which encounter is best for the upcoming challenges. Regarding Fossil clause, I think reviving more than one Pokémon may be a little more taboo, but maybe if you do one per badge, that would work best! My reasoning is the same as the safari zone honestly. I loved this challenge, keep up the hard work!
My 2 cents on the safari zone would be: 1. Allow 2 retries for encounters. Meaning with the Larvitar you could have tried 2 more times after it ran but only Larvitar. Of course you can tailor the number of retries to suit the run / game. 2. I would consider each area of the safari zone as eligible for a new encounter as they are the same as different routes in the overworld. Different encounter tables, different names, name plate on entry etc. Although I think it would be better for run balance if you spread the encounters over the rest of the game after unlocking the safari zone rather than having 4 encounters at once or whatever. Maybe allow 1 per badge after the initial for getting to the safari zone. But for a mono-type challenge may not matter depending on encounters so far and types but would be more fun I think. Always love a new FlygonHG video keep up the great content 😃
I thought HGSS was more consistent but now I see that it still isnt a walk in the park even if it isnt quite as hard as crystal mono-rock (though I think crystal ends up being harder, you have like no usable TMs and no physical special split and magcargo. Also, chuck gets Dynamicpunch instead of focus punch which is *much* more annoying, 50/50 + confusion. Mudslap on shuckle and Mirror Coat on corsola end up being crucial) My favorite version of safari zone clause is "you get 1 chance at an encounter per part of the safari zone, but you can only get one overall safari zone pokemon"
Great video! Honestly I think fossil/safari clauses would be cool. One thing I like about nuzlocke videos is learning more about Pokémon I'd never used or thought about, plus there's more fun to be had with more party members and it might even make some runs easier to do without resorting to shucknanigan-type activities. You could even set a limit on those clauses if you did feel it made them too easy (e.g. 3 attempts and you're out of the safari zone). Whatever you choose to do, your videos will be great 😄 Excited for Poison, Steel and Ghost to come!
Man, I already loved your content but the fact that you named tyranitar (one of my fav Pokémon) after Prince (my favorite singer) made me a lot happier than I should have lol. Great vid as always and I like the new layout
I find it ironic that this channel started with showcasing substitute setup strats and that Flygone lost his Golem because he failed substitute setup strats. Great video!!!
I truely think your sense of humor isn't being praised enough HG. The gag with the Playdoh Geodude getting whipped with a lettuce, while you dryly narrate the whole thing is truly priceless😂😂
I'd be into something for the Safari Zone definitely. I don't know if you should necessarily be able to get the encounter infinitely, but making it so you at least have another shot to catch a Pokemon that flees would definitely be a good change. This was a fun run, Flygon, thanks!
Great video as always, Flygon!! I agree that a Safari Zone clause would make challenges more diverse and interesting. You could allow yourself to attempt/capture one Pokémon from each zone, then add one of them to your team as your Safari Zone encounter. I think you should also allow yourself to take Baoba’s tests to expand the Safari Zone and give yourself another encounter (via the same rules) then. Keep up the great work! You’re easily one of my favorite Nuzlockers!!
Safari/fossil clause makes perfect sense in a run where you don’t have many different Pokémon available to you. Would love to see safari zone mons get some use! Great video
I really enjoy your nuzlockes. What I've picked up is that you enjoy playing with different type of pokemon. I truly believe that your videos are better the more you enjoy the game so let's give the safari clause a try! Also l loved the payback of Alan. Keep it up flygonhg!!
Caught myself a shiny Kyogre in USUM whilst watching this video! Started the hunt 5 mins before starting the vid, and caught it as you began the red fight. Thanks for the entertainment whilst I ground out the SRs FlygonHG!
13:00 To be fair, if I got swept by baby flying spaghetti monster, I'd have a similar reaction. And I'm on board with the Safari Zone Clause; I think most players generally assume each zone of the Safari Zone is a separate area anyway, similar to how a lot of players assume every floor of a cave is a separate area (something to keep in mind in case X or Y tries to screw you out of Carbink again). I understand you sticking with what the Pokemon's info screen says to keep it objective, but it's your run, your rules, and I think this still holds true to the spirit of Nuzlocke Encounter Rules. Plus like you said, it would make some of these monotype runs a bit less painful.
I'm definitely in favor of a Safari Zone clause. As for the fossils, I think its reasonable to allow for multiple resurrections if you're counting where you found the fossil as that locations encounter instead of the city they're resurrected in. Mono-type challenges are limiting enough as is, and to me the point of them is being able to use a bunch of Pokémon of specific types no one ever really uses. Also, you're the best 😀 great video as always.
really solid run HG, it took a few attempts but once the team got rolling it really put your opponents between a rock and a hard place, :^) anyhoo~ as for what i think of the safari zone encounter thing, i say if your team drops below 3 make the acceptation to count different sections count for different encounters, the new ground looks great btw
I think the clauses you mentioned are fine, I use clauses like them for similar reasons and its always nice to see how a type performs as a whole unit rather than having a bunch of their members left out.

I think either would work well in a monotype run, and I hope you come up with a good Safari Clause later!
Great idea!
Sorry if it seems like I'm just bashing you, but I wanted to explain my logic here
@@backpackerraden6268 Doesn't seem that way at all. Thanks for elaborating!
@@SSardonic you're very welcome!
honestly one of the most enjoyable runs so far, rock is a fucking tough type for these challenges but that final team you had was surprisingly scary. great stuff altariahg!
Safari zone clause makes sense to me! I think adding that diversity in options & mons is good and isn’t against the spirit of the nuzlocke
Currently doing my first ever Hardcore Nuzlocke on Emerald. I have new respect for you pumping out these videos as quickly as you do. Even after all the preparation things can just...go wrong. Mad respect to you lad
Naming Onix after 27 Club members was some of the subtlest and most morbid jokes you've ever made.
I think the "Safari zone clause" would be nice, giving more encounters means more fun
I would love to see a modded “safari zone only” run where it’s just the Pokémon you never get to use in the safari zone.
Seconding this suggestion! So many games have *heaps* of Pokemon that only appear in the Safari Zone!
Glad to have been a fan for around 9 months or so :)
Edit: I say have the safari zone exception OR the fossil one that way it’s still challenging while still adding to your team. Lastly, the dark background is very helpful - makes it easier to see what’s going on.
Kinda crazy how easy Red was in this run, sandstorm alone puts in so much work
These videos are so comfy to watch before bed!! Yet another show stopper, altaria!! Bravo
i’m loving this new layout!! it makes the video feel warmer (??) if that makes sense, loved the video dude. as always, it was great and i thoroughly enjoyed it. keep doing what you’re doing because you’re one of the best pokémon youtubers going!
Finally back to these types of og nuzlockes going back to his roots with these early vanilla pokemon games just what i like to watch :)
i loved the shucknanigans, they are the most determined way to win, battles are not just pokemon throwing punches and using various fancy looking moves, it's about who has the wits to prevail, shout out to turner for being the champ of this video
Man I think that your commentary has been really shining lately, your last few videos have been 👌
Keep on dropping the heat good sir
Ok, that little Shucknanigans editing KILLED ME.
I wasn’t expecting that, I almost choked on my tea. Thank you, loved that bit!
If the encounter list is very limited splitting up the safari zone seems like a really good idea to get some more verity in the runs and have more tools to work with. I'm still a fan of only one fossil as you have an active choice to make there whereas the safari zone can be more random.
"Bowie just got one more stone edge pp left here, but sadly he'll never get to use it.". Bro I nearly cry a least a little in these nuzlocke challenges, you really know how to pull on my heartstrings. ;_;
You’re my favorite content creator Flygon, I love watching all your videos as soon as they come out. You’re the best!
Yeah it’s really fun and I love that you can own a living dex
First off, thank you for the consistently interesting and hilarious content. Second, I think a Safari clause would be a good addition. Especially if you're doing an already difficult challenge, not dealing with fleeing RNGesus and getting a wider pool might allow for more varied strats and fewer Shucknanigans. (Not that I'm trying to f***le with Shuckle)
The battle with red was amazing, I loved this video just as much as I love rock types. Magcargo pulled in the work too 💪🏻
Loved the video!
The next video will probably be a ghost or steel monolock. I'm guessing either Alola ghost mono or steel Unova mono.
Life hits hard once you've seen 8:45
yeah it does, im about to watch your poison only in ultra sun/moon, hoping it isnt gonna be brutal
Always happy to have a new vid out ❤️
everyone drop everything flygonhg just dropped a vid
I was watching TikTok and got the notification and went straight here
ALWAYS. anything i do gets abandoned lol
Same g
Always do
i don’t usually comment on youtube videos, but i wanted to take the time to tell you how much i enjoy your content and personality :] you’re one of my favourite youtubers and no matter what you do i’m always excited to see it!
Your strategy with Shuckle was never lost on me. Do what you gotta do, no worries. Love your Nuzlockes as always! Keep up the great work
Only 3 more left!
The live action replays have really started to grow on me. Keep up the great work Flygon!!!
This type of run is difficult, you can't take any pokemon for granite.
I think the new layout looks a little blocky and busy with all the separations but color-wise I think it's neat :)
My 2 cents on the safari zone would be:
Mudslap on shuckle and Mirror Coat on corsola end up being crucial)
My favorite version of safari zone clause is "you get 1 chance at an encounter per part of the safari zone, but you can only get one overall safari zone pokemon"
Whatever you choose to do, your videos will be great 😄
Excited for Poison, Steel and Ghost to come!
Love some classic FlygonHG content :)
Man, I already loved your content but the fact that you named tyranitar (one of my fav Pokémon) after Prince (my favorite singer) made me a lot happier than I should have lol. Great vid as always and I like the new layout
I really like these harder challenges, seeing multiple attempts is cool because it creates a sense of danger and we get to see different strats.
Great video
i’ve never seen a full nuzlocke and this was the first thing that popped up on youtube looking it up! Excited to watch more
Love watching these! I get excited with every upload.
I really enjoy your nuzlockes. What I've picked up is that you enjoy playing with different type of pokemon. I truly believe that your videos are better the more you enjoy the game so let's give the safari clause a try! Also l loved the payback of Alan. Keep it up flygonhg!!
pretty late but that "My Tears Ricochet" reference got me, you've earned a swiftiemon subscribe
Caught myself a shiny Kyogre in USUM whilst watching this video! Started the hunt 5 mins before starting the vid, and caught it as you began the red fight. Thanks for the entertainment whilst I ground out the SRs FlygonHG!
Love the new background and also great video rock types are hard to use and have awful sp.def so kudos to you flygon.
The shucknaningans edit is part of the reason I love this channel. It’s exactly the jokey meme thing I love in videos
First time watching a monolocke playthrough, your content is very amusing! Take care :)
I love how you work around lost footage. Best part of your vids, imo.
11:26 "Onix-pected" either he said a good dad joke or I just heard it myself 😅
I'd keep the rule surrounding fossils, but add a safari zone clause.
Just as well, best HGSS run I've ever seen!
When you hit 500k subscribers I request and/or insist that you deliver an entirely live-action run as those skits are consistently brilliant.
Ho-oh’s theme that starts at 27:00 is easily one of the best pieces of music the Pokémon games has ever made
i just worked a 12 hour shift and coming home to this is the highlight of my day. Thanks HG!
As always I enjoy the little skits you do and hope you do more! (The 3rd attempt Geodude was very unexpected yet funny)
I say Safari Zone encounters per area are more than alright. Especially if the first attempt is failed.
Love this video! Excellent work good sir.
Also, you're the best 😀 great video as always.
really solid run HG, it took a few attempts but once the team got rolling it really put your opponents between a rock and a hard place, :^)
anyhoo~ as for what i think of the safari zone encounter thing, i say if your team drops below 3 make the acceptation to count different sections count for different encounters, the new ground looks great btw
I think the clauses you mentioned are fine, I use clauses like them for similar reasons and its always nice to see how a type performs as a whole unit rather than having a bunch of their members left out.
That sinking feeling when Flygon says a random trainer's name and you know shit's about to go down
I love your videos so much and i love the fact that u use taylor lyrics as references 😭♥️ my tears ricochet, what a king
Keep it up, you’re doing amazing literally
