On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

You’re right but this one goes Mach 5 and has a 138lbs high explosive fragmentation warhead. There is a little bit more pucker factor there lol

@@reaper-1 I don't think there's been a nuclear-armed AA weapon since the AIR-2 Genie used on the F-101 Voodoos. That was unguided though. I'm not even sure if the Soviets ever developed a nuclear-capable AA missile - guided or otherwise.

When you had that arrow pointing at the missile I was like is that really a phoenix on it, such an iconic looking missile.
There's a reason why I always chose 6AAMs as my secondary for all my F-14A-R2 Edge sorties in ACI.

Just getting my opinion out there, i really love the dogfights honestly. They are so action packed and you do a great job at explaining the different advantages and situations of the two planes instead of just seeing the situation of just one in a BVR. Love your content and thank you for being so informative

A missile duel interspersed with bobbing and weaving and estimating what the other guy is doing. If I were the pilot for either side I'd want a bigger edge.
if Iran really traded those drones for the flankers, they got a killer deal.

Have you tried the Phoenix and the F-35 combination? I think it would be interesting to demonstrate the standoff capability versus a "Gen 4" adversary, maybe a Rafale or a Eurofighter. Thanks for bringing us awesome entertainment!
The missile would be to big for internal storage, so F35 wouldn’t be stealthy
Should do a missile test as weird as this seems. No countermeasures, no notching. Just wait till both planes lock each other and fire. See which missile hits first.

Ya that’s an interesting idea but I hesitate to put r37 on the anything Iranian as there is no evidence they have it or are even talking about acquiring it.

I doubt there is any "modern F14" in Iran. They dont have any spare part since 40 years ago, I'd be surprised if they have one that can even taxi
@@baronnuuke7821 they have quite a few remaining actually lol, there are lots of videos of them flying them around, even escorting russian tu22s when they were conducting strikes against ISIS in syria. The Iranian F-14 fleet is probably not in good shape but is very much active and still flying, sources estimate as many as 24-25 may still be airworthy as of present date.

As I see the Phoenix role is creating an advanced tactical situation when the BVR fight isn't in the effective range yet, because the first few missiles usually don't hit. It helps you to create the best position (recommit vs defense) when the range is closer and the missiles are more dangerous. This is why it's not useless anymore yet.

@@dreaminknight The Russian Air Force planes shot down on May 13 were shot down by patriot or NASAMS systems.
Most likely, they were target designation by NATO or U.S. satellites.
The small number of AWACS planes was a pain in the ass.

I think it would be cool to do a video on a mig 21 with modern Russian missiles. Indian migs can carry r73s and r77s. it would be interesting to see how that ancient jet holds up against modern fighters with modern missiles.

I think a more interesting missile would be a EMP missile. No matter who fires first a hit would result in both planes going down within a certain distance. Unless the ejection mechanism is mechanical, then there's no bailing out either.

Isn't the Phoenix liquid cooled from it's cradle? That's gotta be a challenge for any non-Tomcat to handle.
The Phoenix is (to protect its electronics), but the Fakour-90 is not the Phoenix, even if it is based on it. As it is a more modern missile (officially unveiled 2017), it stands to reason that it does not require cooling.
Correct, it MAY also have the capability to go pitbull if the lock is broken like the aim54C and unlike the aim54A but that is currently unknown.
That SU 35 cockpit is futuristic compared to all Americans and NATO fighters

Hey GS, as you’re in the Flanker anyways, I wanted to recommend a BVR match between the Su-30MKI with Astra Mk1s and the Su-30SM with R-77Ms. It’ll be interesting to see how the R-77M’s longer range will factor into the engagement. By the way, love your content. ❤

If you were to break lock and reacquire the target a few seconds later, shouldn't the missile reacquire as well? Are there any missiles that can do that?
No once you break lock with a missile the missile will automatically go into terminal guidance and use its own radar. This is at least the case with the Charlie-5 variant of the amraam and the Russian r77-1

A WWII scenario to consider. The initial introduction of P-51'a to escort duty. The Luftwaffe is expecting P-47's and P-38's to break for England since the earlier versions didn't have the range to match the B-17's and B-24's. However the P-51upgraded with the Merlin engine was able to fly and fight all the way and back.

1:58 - having worked at Hughes Missile Systems and on the 54C, I find it astounding they could reverse engineer it. Russia? Maybe. Iranians? Now all you Farsi's hang on a sec. As I typed this I know the 54A was in your inventory for decades. I just happen to know some of the fundamental details behind the platform - nothing classified - but from a general engineering perspective, I'm astounded any AAM works.

Why are we no seeing as much talk about notching missiles to defeat them? Is this only for older missiles?
I use notching when inside the MAR, otherwise I stay outside the MAR and turn cold slightly instead of notching. Also notching these new missiles is a little more risky and harder, much safer to stay outside the MAR
I was thinking... Because Phoenix is climbing that high, is it possible, while cranking, to maintain lock on target in front but lose your communication with your missile which is high up? (Before goes Pitbull)

Iranian missiles are actually fairly good, it’s one of the few things they can possibly have any edge with so they’ve spent time to get them right
