  • It's the season finale of the Sheet Show and Benny Heebz wants to find out if Niklas Edin is a legend or lucky for making a super spinner shot at the men's worlds, and we try to recreate it in Regina at the KIOTI Tractor Champions Cup.

Niklas only missed the shot by 1-1.5 inches. It looked good until he crashed on the guard.

Benny: _Was the shot skill, or was it fluke?_
    Nik: _Yes_
    Lol, classic!
A mix of both yes but we know it was mostly skill (and practice), a magical shot for sure!

A great & enjoyable video to watch the best try the Edin Spinner. For me, a Canadian fan of Nik Edin, I'd say he's the best in the world. I often root for all the curlers in this video as they are great curlers, who are modest about their curling ability. I wish them all a wonderful 2023 until a new curling season starts in the Autumn. Cheers!

Not a fluke. There are TWO examples of his team doing it, and TWO different players, Edin and his Third. This is definitely a long practiced shot but only something pulled out when necessary. Here, Edin did the same thing he and his third did before, that "Scandinavian flick" (turn left, then turn hard right to get the spin). That likely plays a role in it.

@guessundheit6494: Niklas' 3rd is Oskar Eriksson who many might not know he is the first curler in history to win four Olympic medals - gold, silver, and two bronze - and the first to secure two Olympic medals in different curling disciplines in the same Olympic. 😉

We used to throw spinners for fun, because they were so different in how they moved down the sheet and just kept going. Incredibly difficult to throw the right weight and hit the broom. We had no idea how they’d react on making contact with another rock. You’d never throw that shot if there was another option. When you’ve got nothing, you’ve got nothing to lose. If anyone could master that shot, it would be Nik Edin!

Never watch curling (or any sport really) tbh but I've tried it a couple of times at work kick offs. Great fun and surely one of the more dangerous activities for office nerds. I can see why that fall was such a big laugh. When we did it, people fell left and right and one guy even had to go to the emergency with a 'broken' knee. Being on ice without skates is just not natural.

You also have to take into consideration the ice conditions. His shot was made after several ends of wear and reading while this was probably played on fresh ice..
