With the ringed city DLC an npc says that a wayfaring knight was reunited with his beloved . Then the player is invaded by him again, right next to where the black witch set is found, as though he is protecting it. However, it does mean that the two have a happy ending together.
I picture Alva, a noble knight traveling the lanfs and Zullie just tails him around and annoys the shit outa him. Trying to soil his plans but fails and becuz she fails Alzas dosent hold her to a grudge. They grow fond of each other. Then love eventually.
What I loved about DaS2's lore is that there's not so much a grand story as there is just a story about people. And their interactions with the world and each other.
Couldn't have said it better myself. I hate how nearly all of the characters from previous souls games have such sad endings. Look at Alva dude, he became a dark spirit... that's fucked. Same with the good half spider lady, it's always the characters that I like who die...
@@UselessNekoGang Well, apperantly Alva becomes a Red Phantom solely to protect the place where Zullie's Set can be found. It could mean they both passed away together, possibly happy, but that Alva's resolve to protect his beloved was so great that he literally comes back as a ghost to keep scavengers from looting Zullie's corpse. So I'm not particularly sad about that one, I do like to believe they found their happy ending. Somewhat similar to the Fair Lady, the kind hearted arachne-like Daughter of Chaos from the first game. When we find the petrified remains of her corpse, we also find a humanoid corpse petrified right by her side, holding Quelana's Pyromancy Tome. This is no rocket science, right guys? Quelana actually went back to her home (after the Chosen Undead had killed/freed her mother and sisters) and found her last living sister, the Fair Lady. I think it's safe to assume that, all things considered, both of them had a form of happy ending. They may have eventually died, but they spent the rest of their lives together, not alone. I think that's conforting, in a way. :) If you want to talk about a tragic death, I'd point to the Giant Blacksmith of Anor Londo! The good chap spent most of his life alone save for one or two acquaitances (like Gough and Andre), he was always taughy to "not talk, it is no good" which was clearly an oppression and he had only ever been taught to stay in that ridiculously tiny room and forge weapons. That was ALL his life was about. And even in the end, there was no change or confort for him! He died still in that tiny room, still holding his tools, still alone with no sign of anyone ever visiting him! The only thing we can assume is that he either died doing his work (the only thing he knew to do), or he was killed by Aldritch and his followers, with not even time to react and defend himself. If ever there was a character in the third game that I went "this person deserved a better ending!!", it was this good boi! :'(
It always seemed to me that the order of events was a little different. I always thought it went Alva sets out to find Serrata's cure, Zullie took note of him and tried to interfere but never had much luck. After searching for a long time, Alva gave up, maybe out of despair or maybe because Serrata died. Once this happened, his singular focus faded and, despite his despair (or perhaps due to it) he realized that Zullie wasn't simply spiteful or cruel: she was jealous as she had always been unloved. Alva, being the kind white knight, decided he wanted to help her, thus his "rediscovered purpose". One sadly alone for all their life, the other bearing recent loss, they both ended up being a great comfort to the other, fell in love, so on and so forth. (Mostly it sounded like you read it as Alva and Zullie travelling together amicably before the end of Alva's quest, which I thought was an interesting difference)
I love the story of Alva and Zullie. It almost feels like it could be like a anime or a book. I need to know how the story fully goes! It's unacceptable that such an awesome story is left in item descriptions. Great video Alex! And nice job wrecking that invader.
It's hinted toward (based off her headgear) that Alva and Zullie did settle down. Zullie has a Domino Mask, a hat, and a veil. She could have encountered and attempted to comfort Alva at a ball or a dance of sorts, after which they did in fact fall in love. Veil's are normally associated with weddings so you can see where that goes. And the hat is simply her every day dress.
If only they would express their story more, damn it B team why must you put lore in game and never finish shit. 30 different characters that are mentioned but have no explanation that isn't one sided I shit you not.
+CommanderSh!mi X I know, but at least we had some pretty kickass short stories... that Bloodborne beat out of the water *cough* Alfred *cough*. In all seriousness Alfred is just a bloodthirsty madman who seems like a bro (curse you Daniel Flynn), and I love how From used Flynn to deceive us somewhat. If you didn't know he is Solaria's VA.
+Wulfy294 Hes obsessed with martydom. Bloodthirsty isnt an insult in bloodborne considering how you are consuming the blood of others and often go out of your way to acquire more blood. A thirst if you will.
I wish someone would make a coop roleplay history about these two. One guy cosplays Alva the Wayfarer and a summon using a Ring of the Living could cosplay as Zullie. I think it's totally possible! The most obvious title I can come up with is "The Adventurs of Alva and Zullie", but I'm sure there could be better titles. I don't know why, but I've suddenly grown incredibly fond of these characters, even if I never met them.
Mecryes X3 That’s essentially what it is, Witch trolls Knight, but eventually they (really) fall in love with each other. You know, that would make for a good anime (just saying)
Fuck man, with dark souls 3 it made it all sad again. From his armor and weapon set and new title "seeker of the spurned". It talks about a trajedy striking and changing alva making him twisted and dark (mentally as he looks the same). He invades and "seeks the spurned" which mean he seeks the hated. I think the witch died and that left him bitter so he now hunts down people as a kind of sellsword or bounty hunter. feels bad man
+Nickolas Pavon If you kill him, you can find his set in front of the cage where Karla, another witch and a child of the abyss is imprisoned. I like to believe that Karla is either Zullie herself, or her reincarnation, and Alva is actually seeking her, but just falls short of freeing her in the end.
KillerSpring Could've been nice to encounter an NPC who "could" have been Alva, I think. As in, it would never be strictly mentioned that he IS Alva, but the clues would be there and it would be something up for the player to work out, etc. Uh I mean, I guess you could make that argument with Saulden or whatever, but you probably know what I mean!
Garl Vinland I just wanted to point out that The Afflicted Grave Robber is female. You can tell by the groans when you hit her. But hey, would be an interesting twist if Alva was a woman to begin with.
I absolutely love this story. My fashion souls is Alva armor, Heide knight mask, elite knight leggings, and Alva gauntlets. This set is really cool, and fits well when I haul around my fume UGS and drangleic shield.
Alva is like the classic knight that wants to save a damsel. Ornstein is a golden armored dragon slayer, Artorias was a noble knight who lost his sanity from his quest but protected his pet wolf, Solaire is a Monty Python styled character who is trying to find his “sun”, and finally the player is the chosen knight who will choose honor or corruption.
GamerRoman You should go FULL witch mode - no melee weapons at all! Unless you gotta batter someone in the face with your magic stick. It's a shame there are no spells associated with Zullie directly, as far as I can recall. I imagine she'd have a nice range of them though, including lots of "trick" spells like yearn, chameleon, shockwave etc.
Silver Mont I barely use the weapon at all, and its quite funny how you only can kill someone within seconds after the cast of 2-3 spells, I even made two video's about taht with that build to show of how broken magic sometimes can be instead of simple curved swords or any meele weapons with buffs. Really like you're videos btw. and speculations hope you do the same with Dark Souls 3!
I so adore the story of Alva and Zullie. In a world as filled with darkness and misery as Dark Souls, it warms the heart to see a tale with a sweet and happy ending :3
Viper Joe Dude it took me like 25 minutes to get that text right haha. And by "right" I mean "it looks vaguely okay I suppose but I can't spend any more time on it." And the Dark Souls III stuff? Cautiously optimistic. Looking forwards to E3 where we'll hopefully get more info.
Our Witch? I've got a few ideas about her. I think she is actually a Leydia witch. Why? Zullie's set is called the "Black Witch Set". The Leydia witches don Leydia Black Robes and Hoods, and use catalyst called the "Black Witch Staff". "The witch, as unloving as she was unloved, finally found illumination through her blighted existence." This is the excerpt added from Scholar of the First Sin. The word that is particularly noteworthy is "blighted". Blighted, of course, implies something is diseased or infected. "Leydia apostles worship Galib, god of disease. They once resided in the Undead Crypt beside Fenito." Excerpt from the Leydia Black Hood, and Robes. Galib, god of disease is worshiped by black witches. The last piece of evidence is that the invader NPC "Gutter Denizen" carries with him noth the Black Witch set (with veil) and the Black Witch staff. The Black Witch staff is used by the Leydia black witches. Why I believe Zullie wanted to stop Alva the Wayfarer from finding a cure for Saint Serreta? If she was indeed a Leydia witch, she would worship Galib. Since Serreta had a sickness which Alva was attempting to cure, I believe she attempted to stop Alva because of this. Why she didn't outright kill Alva, I don't know. Perhaps because she fell in love with him? What do you think about all this?
OhMyTwitch Could make sense! I hadn't thought about the black witch staff before. I was looking at the design works the other day though, and I found it interesting that Alva, Zullie and the "Faraam Knight" have their own section dedicated entirely to them. Or at least, their armour sets. Kinda makes me think they originally had a larger role to play, perhaps. Or perhaps the Alva set was considered as the "cover armour" and Zullie's design was for a "Amethyst Herald" style character? haha.
Maybe Zullie and Sereta aren't just characters, but rather, both are metaphors for Alva himself. Sereta was a saint, which could represent Alva's good, loyal, and strong side. And Zullie was a witch, which could represent Alva's doubt, unwillingness, and weaker side. Alva most certainly was on a dangerous journey, since he was clearly determined to go to much length to save Sereta, or his good side. But then his weaker side started to fight with his good side, hence why Zullie in the story was attempting to bring him down. Alva was beginning to doubt whether or not he could accomplish the quest for a cure. But yet, he still resisted this self-doubt, and continued this quest. But Zullie, his weaker side, never left him, as this was apart of him like any other human. And when he failed to find a cure, Sereta the Saint died, and so did Alva's good side, which is why he gave up his Knight Hood. Which led to his weaker side, Zullie, taking over. In fact, maybe Zullie and Sereta never existed, and this was more about Alva's descent into madness from the undead curse. We see him in Dark Souls 3 where he invades you, which is typically something that happens when either the invader has gone mad from the undead curse, or is out to kill you specifically.
I point this out as in he shows the signs of going Hollow in 3. I never said he wasn't real, but rather Zullie and Sereta had the possibility of not being real. As far as I know, this theory could work even with 3's release.
a strange fact, those sort of successful hero quests are actually relatively rare still. While popular within the past 60-80 years they do not in any way form the majority of stories across the globe. The oldest and most common stories are invariably tragedies
+Silver Mont yup. It does make the sort of tragedy mongering popular with many people sound strange though. I can't blame people for enjoying tragedy it can help make some endearing characters. But I personally draw the line at things like game if thrones and it's diabolous ex machina
I like the way you ended that, saying Dark Souls in the end is built around telling people stories around a campfire, it makes it seem more poetic that that Alva and Zullie's tale exists only in writing. I will add that these two almost certainly ended up having a child, who grew up to be Karla. We know this because one of Karla's spells was said to have been taught to her by her mother, and the only other being in the game who uses that spell is a ghost wearing Zullie's clothing. We also find Alva's armour in the hall Karla was trapped in if we kill his spirit which is guarding the prison. So yeah, I think it's pretty likely that after Alva's Saint died, he and Zullie had some fun, but unfortunately at some point between them having Karla and the events of Dark souls 3, Karla somehow got taken and trapped in Irythil dungeon (not saying the Pontiff had anything to do with it but the Pontiff probably had something to do with it), and both Alva and Zullie died on the journey to rescue her. It's a sad end, but at the very least Karla is one the few NPCs who don't canonically die at some point, so we can probably assume she continues her parent's legacy after you complete the game
Alva and Zullie remind me slightly of Alim (My main from Dragon Age) and Morrigan. Mostly in the fact that they are a witch and warrior (a grey warden which actually was better than a knight), and that the former was joined by the latter for somewhat nefarious purposes but they become lovers in the end.
@@mothmanmk2547 The Cicada Priests talk about a wayfaring knight who eventually found his lost love in the Ringed City. If you explore a tucked away corner in the Ringed City Streets, you can find Alva standing guard over Zullie’s corpse (metaphorically speaking; he spawns as an invader)
Not gonna lie, I am writing a book with two of the main characters that are inspired by Alva and Zullie. While it takes a back seat for the overall story, the relationship does have a major stake in the story in the end.
And now in Dark Souls 3 and its DLC, we find Alva again. Still alive and not yet hollow, invading you in Irithyll and in The Ringed City, titled: "Seeker of the Spurned." Clearly, he makes it to the end of the world, perhaps searching for Zullie now? In The Ringed City, he shows up near Zullie's garb and if you kill him in Irithyll, you can get his armor from a corpse outside Karla's cell. IDK what that means, but I thought people watching this in 2018 should know that he's still alive and kicking.
my favorite armor set...but when i playing as knight using that armor i was in the winter tower and suddenly when i enter to boss fight the ice queen talk to like i was Alva
@@RystlyssDraugr He probably misheard Aava (big white tiger) as Alva. Or he's feeding a line of bullshit because I've ran that armor for entire playthroughs before on lower vigor characters and Alsannah has no special dialogue for it. Take your pick.
About this name "Zullie". Seems to be a derivation of Julie meaning "pretty" in french. The witch strikes for a pretty woman though she usually covers her face.
do you guys think that maybe bradley of the old guard could be alva's son? he wears alva's armor, and has what is basically using a faith build, with miracles and a lightning spear (the heide spear) showing both his father, and the saint. he also happens to have huge magic resist, possibly from his mother (zulie the witch). maybe i dunno.
Never something I've considered before! We know so little about Bradley, unfortunately. No idea what the "Old Guard" is even, for example. But hey, it could be the case!
.... So you're telling me it's basically like those anime plots where the girl who's in love costantly teases his lover, eventually ending with both going out together?
Superschokokeks I got some more DaS2 stuff coming, too! A playthrough of Scholar of the First Sin and uh... I dunno, maybe another lore video, and the Q&A videos, most of which are about DaS2 as people seem to be pretty interested in it.
The thing I find most interesting about Alva is his helmet. When I look at medieval helmets usually they have eye holes, because sight was important enough to sacrifice a bit of protection. So usually the grill piece with all the slots was on the mouth and there would be some sort of eye slot or slots. With Alva there are no eye slots...only that grill sort of thing, which makes me think he chooses defense over better eye sight...since its gotta be harder to see through a metal shutter.
666Masque666 A lot of the helmets look like they'd really hamper your viability, yeah. It'd be fun if that had an impact on gameplay, but I can't see how they'd work it in haha.
My interpretation: Saint Serreta's sickness may be related to her name; "Boswellia Serrata" is a type of incense tree. I believe her sickness was that she was becoming a witchtree. The Gutter Denizen invades you with black witch set/veil and black witch staff, implying that Zullie may be from Leydia, though other phantoms with her gear appear in Belfry Sol, so perhaps it's Alken. Consider how the witchtree branch and chime are found in the grave of saints...
Silver Mont at the bottom of the Gutter, where you would normally drop down to get to the first bonfire in the black gulch, an np invades, an np named Gutter denizen or Gutter Inhabitant wearing Zullie's full Black witch set and the veil which she drops. It might having been Zullie after she went hollow and somehow ended up in the gutter. And I like to think her different pieces of heads are really later to different periods of her life. The hat when she was a despised and evil witch. The mask when she tried to trick and seduce Alva, which she might have used to conceal her appearance. And then the Veil after Alva died, I think he died because people don't usually wear veils unless it's for a special occasion like a funeral. We know Alva failed his quest but why? Maybe Saint Serreta succumbed to her sickness and then Alva relinquished his knighthood and retired with Zullie then died of old age, women do tend to outlive men.
Let's also take note of how similar Alva's armor is to Artorius's. Same helmet shape, pauldron on one shoulder torn fabric on the other, and a loose torn fabric skirt. I don't think that Alva is Artorius in any way but I thought it was interesting. Maybe Alva had his armor modeled after a legendary hero but maybe its just coincidence.
I found Alva the Wayfarer armor in that guy in Majula, I found their story quite interesting and researched it. Not much romance in Dark souls (successful romance) so their quite romantic life story surprises and delighted me. I found a lot of fan art of them together, for a couple that you're only familiar with is their armor description, they sure took our attention.
winterwolf211 Yeah, it's funny how such characters who are mentioned so briefly can catch the imagination of the fans, huh? I wonder how the designers of these characters feel, when certain characters become popular, compared to others.
winterwolf211 Dude, Dark Souls II is ALL ROMANCE. Alva and Zullie Vendrick and Nashaandra Old Iron King and Nadaalia Ivory King and Alsaanna The Princess of Alka and the Prince of Venn The Covetous Demon and the Baleful queen The same story of forbidden love retold again and again
Garl Vinland Hey I mentioned successful romance, admit it, not a lot of them spent their life together. Covetous Demon and the Baleful queen never got together, Nadaalia was too late and never got together with Old Iron King. I'm not sure about other ones because I havent finished the dlc.
winterwolf211 Alva's supposed romance was to be with Seretta until he fell for a witch with tits. I'd call that a failed romance in some regard. Alsaanna canonically loved the Ivory King. And The Prince and Princess of Venn and Alka loved each other so much they had bells created at opposite ends to commemorate it. It's even speculated that they are the throne defender and watcher.
Garl Vinland I'm faiiiirly certain that both Throne Watcher and Defender are male - they were originally going to be a trio of bosses (Velstadt would be fought at the same time) and from that same source of info, they talk a little about their design - Watcher is supposed to be somewhat reminiscent of Gwyndolin, with his helmet and the, I quote, "feminine curves" of the armour.
When you imply that Alva might have gave up his knighthood and even his life upon failing his quest, it reminds me of how samurais used to commit seppuku to take their own life when they couldn't handle their shame. I find it interesting to see how similar it is for undeads in the game to gradually go hollow when they lose their purpose and beliefs. An undead needs to find purpose for himself, just like a shamed knight could regain his might by finding a new quest that needs his assistance.
Random fact the black witch veil has 1000 curse resist that makes you immune to curse build up kinda like the crown effect. Dont know if it means anything but regardless Alva and Zullie are the cutest.
Luke Spook Yeah, that was a change done in Scholar, I noticed it during my forthcoming LP! It's interesting (and very useful) that it has 1000 curse resist now.
Zullie, could be considered like Sully? Which means to damage the purity or integrity of. Like what she tried to do to Alva, getting him to abandon his quest for the cure? Just a suggestion.
Oscar of Astora Could make sense! There is seething Seath after all. And one thing I unfortunately can't really check out too much, is the Japanese spelling of these names, which might have further meaning behind them in the katakana and all that stuff.
The veil I believe is the item of clothing Zullie wore to mourn her friend/lover, its very reminiscent of the Victorian funeral garb. Perhaps when he gave up, he fell to despair deciding to take his life. Or perhaps the two settled down together, Zullie outliving her lover.
Richard Metcalfe It also has 1000 curse resistance, as of Scholar of the First Sin. Which is... interesting. Haha, maybe Alva was searching for that veil 'cos it makes you immune to curses.
The only mods I use for DaS2 are GeDoSaTo with the post processing effects to tweak the visuals, and a few texture/specular edits to make the alonne set silver, instead of purple.
Sweetroll I think texture mods are relatively safe. But who knows? I've modded all three games on PC (nothing extreme, just visual tweaks) and had no issues. But then on xbox I picked up a hat from another player and got banned for it.
Silver Mont Yeah, I was playing on xbox360 DS and someone gave me the full set of Artorias' wifu. I didn't get baned suprisingly. But now a days things might be like your Hat experience o.o or its just hit and miss with these situations.
Sweetroll Well, dropping items for other players is OK, but in my situation, the guy had modded the item into his game, I believe. So although it was a "normal" item it must've been flagged as being "corrupt" in some way in the game data. It was a rare drop hat so I guess I should've been suspicious that a guy would drop it, but I was curious because I saw an item on the floor lol
I'm just gonna dump all of my headcannon here. I don't have time or space to explain my reasonings, so deal with it. So, Alva was a dutiful knight of Carim. As a knight of Carim, he was sworn to serve a saint (Saint Seretta). When the saint falls ill with what was assumed to be a sickness (while it actually was the undead curse), Alva goes on his quest to find the cure. When Zullie plays her tricks on Alva, it isn't with a malicious intent. Rather, she wanted to deter Alva from his quest because she knew the true nature of the saints illness. She wanted to protect him from his pointless and suicidal mission. Of course, Alva was too stubborn for that. This is what causes Zullie to fall for him, and reveal herself. Alva carries no harsh feelings towards her and instead welcomes her to join him on his travels. Zullie is delighted but carries the guilt of knowing that Alva's quest has no end. Along their travels, Alva develops feelings for Zullie and they become more than friends. This causes Zullie to become even more wracked with guilt and she reluctantly confesses that Saint Serreta can't be cured. This destroys Alva and forces him to relinquish his knighthood for failing his duty. However, he is able to find comfort in Zullie and considers her a replacement as his mistress. Alva and Zullie continue their travels in spite of this and become engaged. This is when Zullie realizes something. Her presence as a fragment of Manis is slowly corrupting Alva's soul. She cannot bear the thought of harming him and suddenly leaves without a word. Alva is not able to cope with the loss of Zullie and refuses to lose another mistress, so he begins a new quest in search for her. His desperation changes him into a shadow of his former self as he solemly traverses the lands. Eventually he realizes that he is embarked on yet another pointless quest, and becomes a mad hollow. All the while not knowing that the love of his life was a few steps away, locked in a cage.
I've been thinking about doing some more if I can think of something good to cover. And I think all the art is set up as a reward on my patreon or RUclips membership
Sorry but no... Navlan is by descriptions "a living spell" that took over his own creator and used his body to commit horrible crimes. As for the mage himself, the chance that he may be the son of Alva and Zulli, based on what we could learn of the world of ds2, is veeery slim (at least to me)
Silver Mont Good to hear you intend to keep up this manner of lore storytelling. Doesn't seem like Vaati is any rush. Wasn't itching to find another storyteller capable at the task (in video form). I'm sure you've read up a bit on this, made your own inferences, etc., so I won't prattle on at length. Just note that it wouldn't surprise me if the sickness of Serreta was something eating away at her like what Dark Fog does in lore (versus gameplay being a poison variation). I'd suspect Zullie/Karla of being guilty in causing the sickness too if she was envious of her (with regard to Alva). Granted, I think it was said he was among those who sought a cure (not the only one), and might have only met her after swearing to find said aid to her condition (rather than it being the antics of the dark child prior to distracting him from his quest only to help him out). Hard to recall all the details available. Good luck.
Dark Mask This is DX9 (original) Dark Souls II on PC with uh... GeDoSaTo (sp?) with the asmodean post processing enabled, no other mods. Although I've tried ENBs and sweetFX and all that, I decided I liked this look the best.
My understanding from the items was that Zullie somehow seduced Alva on his quest, and he gave it up and renounced his knighthood. This explanation makes a lot more sense.
What sword is he using? because I am trying out a new build that I will call the Templar/ hospitaller (depending on the armor that I will use) which will be a medium armored man with faith and uses a shield like the eagle shield and will use a long sword and that sword fits the bill as of now.
Why does the B-team have lore in item descriptions that are so interesting but burly have anything to work with. Since I am a simple man, I will believe that Alva failed as he either A) Like many NPC's forgot about his quest. B) Received news that he was too late. And did fall in love with Zullie. Very one sided of me but a man can dream. Now to work on my fanfics

What I loved about DaS2's lore is that there's not so much a grand story as there is just a story about people. And their interactions with the world and each other.
Yeah, they said at some point that much of the emphasis in DaS2 was looking at the effects of the "deep curse" on individuals, and I liked that.
Silver Mont "And if you don't, then may you fall!" You're so awesome man😆 Keep up the great lore videos Monty. So happy to be a subscriber!

That was ALL his life was about.
And even in the end, there was no change or confort for him! He died still in that tiny room, still holding his tools, still alone with no sign of anyone ever visiting him! This thumbnail art is basically.

FINALLY a semi-good ending cause personally I don't see a problem with spending traveling life with a witch
I can only hope so!
Notice from the future, Karla from DS3 is their daughter
I love the story of Alva and Zullie. It almost feels like it could be like a anime or a book. I need to know how the story fully goes! It's unacceptable that such an awesome story is left in item descriptions.
Great video Alex! And nice job wrecking that invader.
Ramsay Snow: "If you think this story has an ending... you haven't been paying attention." 8)
I was thinking the same thing that it can be an anime or a book too! u r awesome ;D
Ayy, in case you didn’t know (though you might), if I remember correctly Alva and Zullie’s story got an ending in the dark souls 3 DLC
Omg the coolest playthrough ever!!!
Mecryes X3 That's actually a neat idea! I'd love to see that. Good one, buddy!
i know someone is writing a fan fiction about their story
Mecryes X3 That’s essentially what it is, Witch trolls Knight, but eventually they (really) fall in love with each other. You know, that would make for a good anime (just saying)
well i am interested because this is the only good story in DS2
This is dark souls= they died
Damn, son!
+Dantick09 Or went hollow
+Scream Like You Mean It and then died ;-;
\[T]/
I thought that the hollows couldn't die :L Yet some enemies don't respawn >.> Illuminati in Dark Souls? :O
+Scream Like You Mean It True 100% hollows can die.
+Hyogetaki Hisame possibly. Zillie could simply be Karla's surname.
Maybe it's just a nod to Alva's legend. Who knows.
Karla is described as spurned isn't she? And you find Alvas set near her.
Kyonami I think that the title means that Zullie and him were seperated, so he wandered the lands in a desperate search for her.
I think that Alva and Zullie should be a side quest, just like P8 d gr8 m8 and cr8on
KillerSpring Could've been nice to encounter an NPC who "could" have been Alva, I think. As in, it would never be strictly mentioned that he IS Alva, but the clues would be there and it would be something up for the player to work out, etc. Uh I mean, I guess you could make that argument with Saulden or whatever, but you probably know what I mean!
Silver Mont I still like to think The Afflicted Grave Robber was head-cannon Alva, or at least wearing Alva's canon armour
Silver Mont did you do anything about faraam knight AKA chosen undead
Garl Vinland I just wanted to point out that The Afflicted Grave Robber is female. You can tell by the groans when you hit her. But hey, would be an interesting twist if Alva was a woman to begin with.
Or a very feminine Bishonen.
I'm still rocking Alvas full set since Dark Souls 3 launch, he's my main man
I absolutely love this story.
I ship Zullie and Alva
Same dude same
If you believe the locust preacher story in DS3 about the wayfairing knight your ship is cannon.

Made a Build focused on a Zullie cosplay, pure amgic and an Ice Rapier.
Rek's like havelmonsters on lag.
GamerRoman
For sure, I'm looking forwards to Dark Souls III!
So londran is Africa? I don't think that's right. Lordran is hinted across right the sea.
I so adore the story of Alva and Zullie. In a world as filled with darkness and misery as Dark Souls, it warms the heart to see a tale with a sweet and happy ending :3

Oh, and what are your thoughts on the Dark Souls 3 rumors/leaks?
Viper Joe Dude it took me like 25 minutes to get that text right haha. And by "right" I mean "it looks vaguely okay I suppose but I can't spend any more time on it." And the Dark Souls III stuff? Cautiously optimistic. Looking forwards to E3 where we'll hopefully get more info.

@@SilverMont you're awesome for replying.
@@thecringeprophet lol
That could be fun - although Alva physically shows up in Dark Souls III, which would kinda put a damper on that theory haha
I point this out as in he shows the signs of going Hollow in 3. I never said he wasn't real, but rather Zullie and Sereta had the possibility of not being real. As far as I know, this theory could work even with 3's release.
wait really where does alva show up in?

one of my old teachers was called alva.....disappointed she never used cool armor....
Alva is Tin in Latvian, funny isn't it?
makes me kinda happy that i used to run his build with out knowing him or his build, i thought Alva was some kind of knight hood name
a strange fact, those sort of successful hero quests are actually relatively rare still. While popular within the past 60-80 years they do not in any way form the majority of stories across the globe. The oldest and most common stories are invariably tragedies
+Ronald Lanzas Humans do love a good tragedy! Well. "Good."
+Silver Mont yup. It does make the sort of tragedy mongering popular with many people sound strange though.
I can't blame people for enjoying tragedy it can help make some endearing characters. But I personally draw the line at things like game if thrones and it's diabolous ex machina
I believe the sickness is the undead curse hence the journey to Drangleic, it’s why all the other NPCs are there after all.
Alva the pure and Zullie the sullen, I read this like light and darkness playing together...
Karla in ds3 is their daughter which is why he invades near irityl dungeon and his armour is found right outside her cell
I like the idea that they ended up together.
WoodenLegionaire That's a very good romance story, someone should make a book about or hell just make an anime about it
Victor Rico or just make rule 34
Alva's armour set has to be one of my fav sets in darksouls 2! And I know it's only rumoured but I'm pumped for darksouls 3!
DynastyTech I really love the new "knight" design they've showed in those screenshots... so I hope it's real, if only because I want that armour!
What a fucking Chad, carried on his quest and also ended up with a Witch.
We should all emulate his success
idk if you heard, but Mimic released another Dark Souls song yesterday, it's called "A Wayfarer's Heart" and it's about Alva the Wayfarer
Beautiful video, your voice is very calm and fits the mood for lore-telling. Well done.

Zulva confirmed
Considering their place in the Ringed City, I’m happy knowing Alva and Zullie eventually fell for each other
Sorry, what?
@@mothmanmk2547 The Cicada Priests talk about a wayfaring knight who eventually found his lost love in the Ringed City. If you explore a tucked away corner in the Ringed City Streets, you can find Alva standing guard over Zullie’s corpse (metaphorically speaking; he spawns as an invader)

Silver Mont New Dark Souls 2 DLC? Alva and the quest for epic booty!

I wonder what happened to Alva prior to the events of DS 3? Alva the wayfarer- Alva: Seeker of the Spurned?
Steven Holt maybe...... Zullie doesn't give her booty to him so he gone mad?
One of the armor sets of Zullie keeps my head same clothing in the firekeeper in ds3
Not gonna lie, I am writing a book with two of the main characters that are inspired by Alva and Zullie. While it takes a back seat for the overall story, the relationship does have a major stake in the story in the end.
The armor I rocked on my first playthrough of ds2
And now in Dark Souls 3 and its DLC, we find Alva again. Still alive and not yet hollow, invading you in Irithyll and in The Ringed City, titled: "Seeker of the Spurned." Clearly, he makes it to the end of the world, perhaps searching for Zullie now? In The Ringed City, he shows up near Zullie's garb and if you kill him in Irithyll, you can get his armor from a corpse outside Karla's cell. IDK what that means, but I thought people watching this in 2018 should know that he's still alive and kicking.
Yeah, that was a very unexpected turn of events. Of all the things to return from das2 I wasn't expecting these characters

But hey, it could be the case!
yep there''s really no backstory on him, but he is the only character associated in any way with alva besides alva, zulie and the saint themselves
Bobo Jones my name's Bradley. this makes me happy :)

yay, I didn't really think to see more Lore-Vides for DS2. Thank you, my british youtuber!
Alva the Wayfarer anime here we come
My interpretation:
Saint Serreta's sickness may be related to her name; "Boswellia Serrata" is a type of incense tree.
I wouldn't like to become a tree. I'd berry much like to avoid that, I'm still getting to the root of my problems dealing with being human, I beleaf
The veil hints that they married. I'm not saying it states that, but you wear a veil to a wedding.
Or if you're a crazy witch stalker and really hope to get married.
Silver Mont Knowing Alva, he may have gave in and showed her love.
You also wear a veil to a funeral.
O.O The most intense Darksouls3 trailer just played while preloading this video
+Archknight DeLuz Hah! Nice. Better than getting weird ads for bread
Zullie does slightly sound like sully. Take that as you will.
I made a few typos. I meant Npc not np :P
I also meant headgear not heads :P :(
Lucan mandragon Yeah, they pop up after you light all da stuff in the gutter. Can take a while to get all the braziers lit, though!
+TheCasualOtakuGuy Hmm... I'd say it's probably a coincidence, but who knows!

+Kal Kuma She wasn't so pro, as it turned out.

I'll let you be the judge of that!
Alva and Zullie
Vendrick and Nashaandra
Old Iron King and Nadaalia
Ivory King and Alsaanna
The Princess of Alka and the Prince of Venn
The Covetous Demon and the Baleful queen
The same story of forbidden love retold again and again
Garl Vinland
I'm faiiiirly certain that both Throne Watcher and Defender are male - they were originally going to be a trio of bosses (Velstadt would be fought at the same time) and from that same source of info, they talk a little about their design - Watcher is supposed to be somewhat reminiscent of Gwyndolin, with his helmet and the, I quote, "feminine curves" of the armour.
So Dark Souls 3 in confirmed. Saw screenshots.
Beautiful gameplay
When you imply that Alva might have gave up his knighthood and even his life upon failing his quest, it reminds me of how samurais used to commit seppuku to take their own life when they couldn't handle their shame. I find it interesting to see how similar it is for undeads in the game to gradually go hollow when they lose their purpose and beliefs. An undead needs to find purpose for himself, just like a shamed knight could regain his might by finding a new quest that needs his assistance.
DanyF02 There is that, yeah. Having a sense of purpose is rather important if you wish to stave off hollowing, after all!
I think Alva left Drangelic to be full-time fashion designer.
Random fact the black witch veil has 1000 curse resist that makes you immune to curse build up kinda like the crown effect. Dont know if it means anything but regardless Alva and Zullie are the cutest.

Oscar of Astora Could make sense! There is seething Seath after all. And one thing I unfortunately can't really check out too much, is the Japanese spelling of these names, which might have further meaning behind them in the katakana and all that stuff.
Silver Mont I guess we can only speculate. Also, don't know if this is much help but Serreta is a place in Portugal!
Oscar of Astora Interesting! And Catarina is a Portuguese name, apparently.
Silver Mont Drangleic = Portugal
Why does his armor look reminiscent to lord of cinder
The veil I believe is the item of clothing Zullie wore to mourn her friend/lover, its very reminiscent of the Victorian funeral garb. Perhaps when he gave up, he fell to despair deciding to take his life. Or perhaps the two settled down together, Zullie outliving her lover.
Richard Metcalfe It also has 1000 curse resistance, as of Scholar of the First Sin. Which is... interesting. Haha, maybe Alva was searching for that veil 'cos it makes you immune to curses.
Silver Mont I've yet to obtain scholar so that is interesting.
Silver Mont will go for fallout lore when the game comes out later this year
Silver Mont's DS2 looks so good. I smell mods. and the way his character walks is a big give away. I wish my DS2 looked like this.
The only mods I use for DaS2 are GeDoSaTo with the post processing effects to tweak the visuals, and a few texture/specular edits to make the alonne set silver, instead of purple.
I thought about modding my DS2 but From Soft scares me with their BAN!! stuff. I install a texture and BAM the BAN "Your fashsion souls is too gud"...
Sweetroll
I think texture mods are relatively safe.
Sweetroll
Well, dropping items for other players is OK, but in my situation, the guy had modded the item into his game, I believe. So although it was a "normal" item it must've been flagged as being "corrupt" in some way in the game data. It was a rare drop hat so I guess I should've been suspicious that a guy would drop it, but I was curious because I saw an item on the floor lol
So that's why alvas set is found in the same area as zulies maybe Alva tried to rescue zulie
That would make sense, yeah!
my old I.T teacher was named alva, she never wore that badass armour though

Awwwww their story is so damn cute
I love this story tbh.....
Me too! It felt quite distinct amongst Souls characters

I know, right? From did their best to make this video completely irrelevant lol. It's okay though, I'll just have to update it at some point.
love alva the character
someone go record and like act this out like possible events
Oh yeah my favorite characters, thanks
Where's my mother******* marshmallows!? I WAS PROMISED MARSHMALLOWS!!
Seraephus Well I ain't shipping 'em to you! You gotta come here!
Sorry but no... Navlan is by descriptions "a living spell" that took over his own creator and used his body to commit horrible crimes. As for the mage himself, the chance that he may be the son of Alva and Zulli, based on what we could learn of the world of ds2, is veeery slim (at least to me)
Going to do a video on Karla very probably being Zullie (aside from being another daughter of Manus)?
I will probably do a video on Karla, yeah
Good luck.
Are you using mods to get the lighting to look so good? I can never even get SotFS looking this good with the lighting.
Dark Mask This is DX9 (original) Dark Souls II on PC with uh... GeDoSaTo (sp?) with the asmodean post processing enabled, no other mods. Although I've tried ENBs and sweetFX and all that, I decided I liked this look the best.
It really looks great. Is there a version of GeDoSaTo for Scholar yet?
Dark Mask
Not sure! I don't have Scholar on PC
My understanding from the items was that Zullie somehow seduced Alva on his quest, and he gave it up and renounced his knighthood. This explanation makes a lot more sense.
+MultiPikmin That's the nice thing about Dark Souls - it's intentionally open-ended, so you can come to your own conclusions!
What sword is he using? because I am trying out a new build that I will call the Templar/ hospitaller (depending on the armor that I will use) which will be a medium armored man with faith and uses a shield like the eagle shield and will use a long sword and that sword fits the bill as of now.
+sean piehel looks like a regular longsword to me
+sean piehel It was just a plain ol' longsword, yeah
Aight thanks guys!
"Zullie pro witch"
But she wasn't so pro in the end
And maybe it was all a part of her pro plan... We'll never know.
Have you seen the leaked DS3 images silver mont?
Glakatations Yup!
***** The Know, they found pics. Just look them up.
***** As mentioned, YT channel "The Know" has supposed Dark Souls III leaks. They seem legit, too.
Yeah, as cool as Bloodborne is, I can't live without Dark Souls and I hope DS3 is alot more like DS1. Praise the sun. ( ノ ゚ー゚)ノ☀️
