I recommend anyone do a test on a scrap of wood to get happy with your colors and the order of them to avoid the problem she had. Also, she slipped and said Polyurethane, which as noted in comments, will Yellow somewhat. Polycrylic is what you want and here's my secret tip to make putting it on painless and perfect the first time you try. Pour a $1 ketchup bottle from Walmart (the kind with a push on cap to cover the tip) full of Polycrylic, buy the cheap but Wide FOAM brushes, and shake then open and squirt your Polycrylic on a zig zag pattern and immediately brush that area out. I work in passes from front to back that are about 8 inches wide. Put on at least 3 coats, as you'll find they go on quickly this way and dry time between coats is pretty quick. On all top coats, you want to work quick and not keep endlessly stroking it around as you will get brushstrokes in it as it is starting to set up. This is where squirting it helps, as opposed to other methods like putting it on a pan and rolling it on with a paint roller. Do it the "hot dog way" and you'll have much more working time with it since it doesn't see air to start drying until you've squirted it out! Don't forget to lightly sand with a very high grit paper like 800 between coats and you'll have a glass finish when done.
Very nice job! I would like to point out that there is no need to use oil paint whatsoever, because once you seal with a polymer or a polycrylic gloss; it with last just as long and there are no worries about having lead based paint in your home which is dangerous and makes selling your home a problem. Remember, always choose water bases is possible inside your home, especially where you will be preparing food. Three more added benefits are lower VOC'S, no nasty smell, and quicker start to finish! Beautiful job.
Wow, you have done the best job. I have seen close to 100 countertops. I couldn't live with most of the countertop jobs. I really do like your countertop. Job well done and TFS.
Wow, this is amazing, thanks so much! I was about to spring for a Giani Granite paint kit to do my bathroom vanities ... $70 saved thanks to you! Your counters look incredible, better than the ones on the Giani website, for a tiny fraction of the cost. I love that you used crumpled paper towels and Wal-Mart paints, LOL. Thank you for posting this!
Who has any right to complain here? This is free information, voluntarily given for your use people! If you can't figure out colors or techniques from the video then move on! By the way the results in this video are the best I've seen, great job and thanks for taking the time to share!
Ive seen so many of these jobs done and they look really bad. You did an awesome job!!!! Best Ive seen. And great that its with craft paint. I did a temporary plywood counter in a vacation home and Im amazed at how well the finish holds up to normal use. TFS
For a finished look around the sink and stovetop, use caulk. I would use an oil base polyurethane instead of a waterbase because the water from spills, dishwashing, etc would ruin your nice finish. Your counters look absolutely fabulous! I already have these colors because I do nails, now I have another purpose for my acrylic paints. Thanks for sharing!
I absolutely love this! We will be doing this in our kitchen as soon as I pick everything up. I was looking for an inexpensive way to update my ugly Formica, and this is it!!!! Thank you Brokefrmbeauty!!
WOW! I bought the Giani Faux Granite Kit in Sicilian Sand, so the colors will be similar. I have watched countless videos on technique and your counter is by far the most beautiful one I've seen! I think I will just use the scrunched up papertowel like you did rather than use the sponges. Absolutely beautiful! Thank you :)
I think this looks amazing....I'm not kidding, this looks great !!....My husband and I have been planning new counter tops, but I think I may try this.....This really looks fantastic.....and it is the exact colors I want...We are doing Italian creme cabinets with glazing...so this would match great...I am so glad I found your video......What do I have to lose?? If I don't like it in the end, I'll just get new counter tops.....Thanks hon....Fantastic job !
I wish you had taped part of the process so we could see how you did it and how you did the concrete as well. They turned out nice and I want to try to do mine as well :)
Great job on your countertops. I'm planning to do mine so looking at lost of vids. Yours have turned out the nicest and most realistic of all the ones I've watched. Thanks for sharing.
The counter looks great, but I wish you would have explained more and actually showed how you applied it. You gave very little example, and the "dabbing" with the crumpled paper towel doesn't really show how you did it.. But it looks great!
Thank you so much, I live in a double wide, and if your familiar, they have garden tubs, there is all this wasted counter space around my tube and its this ugly yellowish fake marble. I'm going to do this, because even if I mess up it will be an improvement. So that will be my practice run and if all goes well the kitchen is next.
I did mine about two months ago and seriously it looks so much like yours . I posted a video as well. I only used three colors , kilts primer and the minwax polyacrylic sealer. Mine is holding up wonderfully .
Cecelia Baby, I prefer water based Varethane or Polycrylic. I try to use all water-based products if possible. sealer finishing waxes are awesome as well.
I did my kitchen counter tops and they came out great, except after about 6 months the paint started to come off.....I used 3 coats if poly...I am going to redo them and epoxy them, I did that with my bathroom counter top and nothing will take that paint off
I read you have to apply the different top paints while the primer is still kind of wet, or the colors will come off. Maybe you let your primer dry for too long?
Hi everyone! Update: counters are holding up very nicely I have spilled sauce grease oil u name it and it cleans very nicely. I also have 2 boys under 6 that beat on them and no chipping!!! Thanks for your nice compliments!!
you did awesome thank you I'm re thinking of doing this on my counters now , I haven't done this in 14 years and forgot I could use the acrylics I got so used to doing big projects thanks for posting Awesome very professional, if your doing more a spatula works great to do edges and not needing to tape up . I learned alot and now u taught me back I had done a bathroom never a kitchen pretty much the same Ideal awesome EYE
Thanks for th video...looks great. I'm getting ready to try it in my kitchen. And I think it would be VERY hard to record this while you were actually doing it without help...your video was great.
I never said this was a tutorial. I simply wanted to show briefly what you can do to cheaply update your counters and the basics you need. I did not go into detail. Sorry that my nails are painted.
I enjoyed this video....and your nails look great! I didn't really notice your nails at first until I read the comments because I was too busy looking at your beautiful countertop!!! I wouldn't have thought about using craft paint! You just cut my cost literally in HALF!!!! Thank you so much for your video!! :)
I wish you would e shown us all your hard work so it's easier to learn. You did AWESOME!! Love it!! When you put the Polyurethane on, will that make it water proof? How about cleaners...do they destroy the coating??? Thanks again for posting your work.

Thank you everyone for the nice comments! I have not noticed any chipping or scratches! The poly on top is doing a great job(I did a lot of coats) The primer will stick well to anything!! Just do a light sanding if you are worried :)
looks great. and on a budget. ive been watching videos for months and was thinking to myself that instead of the $150 to $250 kits you can just use acrylic paint and an appropriate top coat and achieve the same look. so glad i came across your video. absolutely love it. what top coat did you use. i dont think you mentioned it....thanks in advance...good job
This is beautiful! Thank you so much for posting this! I may try it in the future at my new house! Also, what color is your gorgeous nail polish? Love it!
Love your countertops a super job! Will be trying this very soon, in just your colors. Perfecto. Will be replaying over and over to catch your exact choices in craft paint. A quick question, how tolerant are these countertops of hot pots? Just wondered if you had the opportunity to find that out. Husband always just drops hot pots on old countertops with no damage, but wanted to make sure....
the only color you mentioned was melted choalate... what were names of the others. looks very nice and professional.... wow. you did a good job and of course your hubby too. if you would let me know the names I would appreciate it. thank you...
It would help so much if you were to have written the colors you used in this video for us to see. You cannot see a single one of the names on the labels.. Nice!

wow Brokefrmbeauty you did an amazing job creating a faux granite look, I just wanted to tell you about the latest and best way to top / clear coat it. This is by far the best 'Faux Granite' I've seen.
I've been doing research on different ways to go about faux granite countertops. This is one of the nicest looking and easily the cheapest. Nice work!

recommendation... write out steps on a paper and then you can add and show.. that way it will help those that are trying to mimick what you have done.
How have they held up now? I'm curious since its been 3+ years now. Thanks! I think they look beautiful.

Very beautiful
what color is your base coat? I would like to use the exact colors. They look great.

Looks great and easy. I'm going to try the primer but use fleckstone paint or similar. I am horrible at art. :-) Will the primer stick well to old acrylic counters? The previous owner did something similar over an acrylic counter but it has chipped is peeling off. I wonder if I can use paint stripper to remove the old stuff...?
Try putting a clear epoxy on top of it. Great job by the way.
anyone know what paint colors were used to achieve this amazing result? I figure that the owner saved the formula so she can repair any damage or add more countertop. Hope someone can help. Thanks for the inspiration!
hi,idk if you already answered this question:) but what color did you do 1st, 2nd,3rd? i love love love the way it came out! good job!
Do you still like your countertop paint? Any suggestions years later now? Am totally about making my own. ❤️🎨
You didn’t name every ingredient

What colors did you used? In what order did you use the colors? I only heard chocolate and tan. please help. I would like to try it. looks beautiful. thank you
did you use any shellac or polyurethane
what brand of paper towels did u use?? I've found that some with lines in it make the paint look more like fossils rather than how yours looked
How has this held up? Love it!
have you noticed any chipping at all from it or is it holding up pretty well?
did you sand after base coat of the primer? or only after the colored craft paints? iam doing this tonight! :)
Khaki , chocolate brown, country white
could not find those colors they had other colors close to them darn!
