  • Here is my first technical video on how to replace the Water Pump & Thermostat on 2011-2013 E70, E71 BMW X5 and X6 with N55 engine - Xdrive35i. It is extremely important that the Water Pump and Thermostat have to be replaced together otherwise you will end up doing the same job again soon (changing the water pump one more time in a very short period...)
    If you have any questions about the replacement and repair, tools I'm using or anything else, just ask me in the comments.
    Thank you for watching & Please subscribe to my channel and benefit from helpful content.

    Is the n55 reliable? And which is more reliable the e70 35i or f15 35i ? I know they have the same engine the n55 , but did they fix any issues in the f15 ?

      They all have the same issues man. The 8cyl has a mechanical water pump, however the turbo 35i they are all identical.

      @@goprodoit The n52 is better? Or the n20 2015 when they fixed the timing chain issue ?

    Why both not only the pump

    • @goprodoit
      @goprodoit  2 года назад

      It is recommended to replace both when you are replacing the pump.
      Most of the times if the thermostat is faulty, it won’t be reflected on the diagnosis process via your scanner…

      What about the other way around? I think it's the thermostat that's faulty not necessarily the pump too. If it's just the thermostat could I avoid replacing the pump too? The car has been overheating but at first the temperature would go up and down, leading me to believe it's just the thermostat. Although I'm not sure. Thank you.

    Is the water pump broken? What is the mileage of the vehicle?

    • @goprodoit
      @goprodoit  Год назад

      It was around 100,000 miles

      @@goprodoit Wow! 100,000 miles on the pump which is not bad. I heard a lot of water pumps failed at around 50k miles. Mine just passed that mileage mark so I was wondering if I need to replace the water pump as a preventive measure. The pump is still working fine right now. What do you think?

    • @goprodoit
      @goprodoit  Год назад +1

      @@joncattletown557 I guess you need to constantly check your coolant tank level mate. And when you shut off the car if you ever heard the pump still running for a while then you should get worried

      @@goprodoit Thanks for the reply. You brought up a good point. I did hear the pump running after shutting off the engine but not for long, maybe just a few seconds. For coolant check, I do need to top up coolant probably every six or so months. The coolant system was pressure checked and was not leaking. Do you think that is a sign of a failing water pump?

    • @goprodoit
      @goprodoit  Год назад

      @@junzhu8584 Thanks mate.
      Just check if you kept the driver’s door opened after shutting off the car, the water pump won’t turn off, it will when you lock the car and after few seconds.
      In any case it is an early sign that your pump is failing
