  • Dodge is known as a brand that puts attitude first and everything else second. And we have a perfect example of that here, it's the new 2024 Dodge Hornet. This came out last year, but for 2024 a plug-in hybrid version is now available. That's what we have here, so let's see if it can live up to its high price tag.

I have 7800km on my Hornet R/T with the track pack. I've been in the business for 30 years and this is one of the vehicles that surprised me most. It has a 49/51 weight ratio, more power than most people can handle. I've cornered this thing so hard I felt my cheek move from the g-force. I would challenge lots of "sports cars" on a track with this thing. It takes a while to figure it out but once you have, WOW! It isn't cheap and definitely not for everyone but if you're a driver that likes a car that is cheap to run and a shocker of a machine when you want to have fun...buy one! I'm 47 years old, a mega Porsche fan (and ex rep), and in 2200km I'm asking my boss to give me another one as a demo, it's that good!

Agreed. I spent a weekend with one driving cross-state and back, and the Hornet is great.

I've had a Hornet R/T+ w/Blackout package since August. I wouldn't have been able to afford the $52k price tag, except I had a Dodge Challenger SXT for a trade that brought my price down to $39.5k. My daily drive to work and back (all highway) diminishes the battery with only a couple miles to spare; however, the regenerative charging is so good I can run-around sidestreets all weekend, and not have the need to charge overnight. I'm spending a little less than $25 a month on premium fuel. Taking all these considerations at face value, this is the perfect car for me, but if my work commute was 50-miles each way, I would have purchased the GT. In Sport mode, with Poweshot and the traction control turned-off and holding the engine to 2000 rpm, I've been able to launch her to a 5.3 sec 0-60; however, the heat that the engine and turbo generates is pretty high, so I don't recommend running around 100% Sport mode.

Spectacular car footage! The sleek designs and powerful engines had me hooked from start to finish

It looks pretty nice from the outside, but for $45k+ it's not worth it. Just wait since they won't be selling these fast at all and get them when dealerships have to move units. I'd pay $30-$35k for the top trim max. Not sure why only 30 miles of range though. The Chevy Volt came out ages ago and was able to get 55 miles on pure electric range.

This reminds me of the Dodge Nitro, I love that car, and I can see myself getting one of these.

I think this is a representation of new times and advancments in tech and not just a representation of raw power. Like leaving 2023 and revealing 2024

If you mean regenerative braking, where coasting and braking recharges the battery, then yes it does, and it's extremely efficient.

I don't like this but that ain't the point. Dodge called this a HORNET, as they should. They didn't call it a Charger or a Challenger, because it's not and looks nothing like one. Meanwhile, Ford making the exact same crossover and calling it a MUSTANG 🤦🏾‍♂️ I rather them called it a Escort GT sport or something, but not a Mustang.

0:49 is the very definition of clown car. The Hornet has far more eye appeal. The Alfa grill is nearly identical to the "It looks like it's sucking a lemon" that the Edsel was known for. And could they have designed wheels any more ridiculous on that Alfa?
