A council with balls
Rarely praise but credit deserved
Wow. Staffordshire Council taking no nonsense. Fix your mess - I like it 👌🏽
The owners obviously torched it themselves.
People must learn, that you need permission to destroy and to build.
What do they need permission for? Don't blame People , Please blame government policies
Government is worried that they are not going to get business rates, they are losing it so the are insisting and bullying as white collar robbers to rebuild it
@@user-jq5yb8rj1d they need permission because thats how its set up you div
A meeting place of many cultural views . Rebuild it.
Amazing how many times buildings a company wants destroying get hit by fire. Why are arsonists targeting derelict buildings that companies are struggling to get permission to rip down.
I live in the Midlands, not that far from this pub. Several years ago, four old Victorian factory buildings 'burnt down ' within the space of a year. One of them is an Asda now. Nothing wrong with them, they would have made lovely flats. It's criminal and no one ever gets charged, too many back-handers!
@@HilaryB. Same where I live. A school was shut down. One of the buildings was not allowed to be knocked down because some rare bats was found living in it. Arsonists struck a week later, then it had to be pulled down because it became a hazard.
@@wesleymcglone6937 Shame, it's amazing how these things can suddenly disappear for a few quid! When did people become so greedy and corrupt?
Wonderful news. Everyone has to abide by the rules of building codes!!! Ask Capt. Tom's daughter!!!
Hi Brian. Building codes are very subjective when it suits. There is so much corruption with local authorities, especially when there are brown envelopes are passed around as I know from many years of experience and the ordinary person in the street knows nothing about. The corruption which is all coming out about the Post Office, then we also have Royal Mail and the corrupt county court system which we have in Durham City who are accountable to no one
Brilliant news for a change!!!! They should have been prosecuted for knocking it down!!!
people from the area always used the pub. It may not have been the local but it was used and loved. As a lower Gornal man I should know, we would always take visters from outside the area to see this wonderful pub, we all miss the place
I know some Brickylayers that struggle to put a wall up level...get intouch I can put you on 😂😂
Dont call me 😂😂
@@che4568 Damn, was just about to call aswell 🤣🤣🤣👍🏻
Cannot understand why it wasn't a listed building in the first place... Who's fault is that? 👀. It is famous, I'm from about 30 miles away & we used to go visit it & show people around
It was listing, I guess you meant listed.
@@tooyoungtobeold8756 No need to be pedantic. What do you get from that? Everybody else understands.
This whole thing stinks or insurance fraud.
Why knock it down so quickly after it burned, hiding evidence much ?
This has got to be an inside deal, the owners look like right scumbags.
I thought the same, I used to go in there alot in my early 20s, how on earth are they gonna rebuild it to exactly how it was
Probably wanted to build a mosque
I think the land is worth a lot more than the insurance claim
it's happened a lot lately unfortunately
@@Adam-vp1cl Wouldn't surprise me 😂
About time the new owners are held accountable for what has happened to the historic pub. Good on the council for standing up to these people
Good this was a unique family pub. Lots of memories and tales attached to the Crooked House
The council forgot to list it😂😂😂.
I've never been there but I wish I had ,It looked like a great old pub.
Fantastic news & good for the council.. Makes a change that they made the right decision, & for the right reasons. Sick of these monied developers just tearing stuff down. Thus is a win 😊😊😊
It's never going to happen, though, is it? You'd never get that lean again or it look the same. Do they even have the funds to do it?
@@ChrisAndCatswell if they don't they should be charged into oblivion!! Definitely not right at all to do that
crooked owners for a crooked house. how fitting
Hahahaha, somebody thought they were going to make a quick buck out of this place. WRONG!
I'm sure the owners won't understand what this means.
As far has I know, there were only two of these in Birmingham UK, which is a very large City. My Father and I, had both of them.
What a wonderful restoration, very well done. Thank You for video.
I don’t see how they can build it back as it was without breaching current building regs?
This is the find out part.
Should have thought of that before property developer greed promoted them to destroy part of the community.
@@pabrennan6877 I don’t see how as many aspects of the design and things such as materials, structural methods, energy efficiencies etc wouldn’t pass the current standards for a new build property. They’d have to build some kind of looky-likey but I really doubt they can build it back as it was. Good luck to the architect having to design a wonky building!
Rebuild a pub that should have been condemned? It's not the leaning tower of Pisa!
Rebuilding crooked house to it's original crooked state would break all building regulations. Subsidence, wonky walls, sloping floors, buttresses supporting outer walls. That should be an interesting job for planning regulators!
Like I said enough in comments,I used to work on building sites,Looking at the foundations and whats left of the building don't look safe to build on,You have knock the rest down,Turn the ground over and over again till it comes up as fresh soil,Then you will have to leave the ground to set for at least 6 months,Then have to start from scratch,Not something can be done in 5 mins,If I was the owner,I would make the people pay for it when they had no promission what so ever to knock it down in the first place
I bet there will be an appeal, some brown envelopes floating around and it won't get rebuilt.
Ordered maybe but owners just go bankrupt and thats it, as for prosecution best of luck with that also.
Will cost new owners dear , they though they were above the law ..They will probably just go bust .
I wouldn't hold my breathe
That’s great now the challenge of rebuild the Crooked house begins.
It's easily rebuilt .. just get Bellway homes to do it as all their new builds are modelled on this very building
There isa piece of the puzzle that is missing from nearly all of the news articles on the crooked house. Someone broke into the pub and vandalised it, before Marsden’s sold it. The story was in The Express and Star - you can find it in their archive. They allegedly did £10 000 pounds worth of damage, which prevented it from reopening. I have no idea who was responsible - but when some people say (as so many do) that”‘If more people had used it, then it wouldn’t have closed” - well, it wasn’t quite that simple. Marsden’s are in serious financial trouble, so selling was an easier option than £10k of repairs.
Your tales, your memories doesn't give living hood for pub owners, because of the government policies, how can you blame them.
They say its going to be really difficult to reconstruct the house to look the same, but i say just get the likes of Taylor Wimpy on the job, because going by some of the new builds going on around us, it shouldn't be a problem😂
❤️🤍💙🇬🇧wonderful news, but what are the penalties if corrected ?
Strong message in 2024 🇬🇧
First Captain Tom’s Spa
Now The Crooked Pub
Yes people, that’s what 🇬🇧planning permission is about
I can't watch the pictures I have to look away. I was physically sick when the story broke. Me and my friends spent many happy summer evenings at that place. It was so wonderfully historic. A lot of people don't manage to chain a few brain cells together before they post. It wasn't built that way it's due to mining subsidence and it had a few giant metal pins running through it an a couple of buttresses to prevent it from collapse.
Switch your brain on before you post.
Regardless, I cabt see it actually happening. How would you duplicate the angles again, have it look the same? Do they even have the funds, ability abd skill to do it?
That's their problem.
I don’t think it’ll happen. If they build it back exactly as it was, there is no way it would meet the current building regs for new builds, so not sure how they get round that?
Well done it must be done , very suspicious
Been in that pub and it was strange feelings. They should be forced to rebuild
YES AND THEY ARE NOT GOING TO OBEY , NO INSURANCE SHOULD HAVE BEEN PAID OUT
Jeez, if you thought it was badly built before, wait till its finished 'By court order'....
God its gonna be rough 😅😊😊😅
Fine them £100million per day after the deadline to stop this happening in the future
Builders will need adjustable spirit levels to re-create what was destroyed
They should be fined for destroying it as well.
I'll believe it when i see it and i dont think it will happen.
I don't either. How do you replicate the lean it had, get it to look the same? Do they even have the money? Putting it back as was would cost way more than just building something from scratch as you're trying to copy something thats no longer there.
It's been done before
@SB-dg8hq Yeah ,no decent builder would touch that job with a barge pole. I worked in building for 39 years before retiring and wouldn't go anywhere near it for any amount of money, they'll be making a documentary out of it and have camera crews on site every day for starters. And if you did manage to get it built no building inspector worth his salt would pass it and would condemn it and order it to be pulled down.
And make sure there’s not a spirit level in sight! We want it built crooked!
That’s what this Country needs, more badly built pubs. Sod the Hospitals and infrastructure, this is what it takes to get people out angry and ready to take on the Authorities. I’m proud to be British.😂🙈
Sadly they can rebuild the pub but it will never be the same pub,the spirit of the 18th century pub and its history had been destroyed and is sadly gone and you can never bring it back to how it was but it should have been protected with it been a listed building long ago.
So they should!.....
My friend Britney going to rebuild it back
Dont call me for that job 😲
Don't destroy the native heritage ❤
Yes too much of that sort of stuff going on.. rebuild it .
Their not going to rebuild they knew they wrong, probaly ddclare tbemselves bankrupt and svkid litigation. Should be jailed
(Jail) Let's hope so that would be the icing on the cake... their lack of intelligence led them to this in the first place.
They should build as was or face catastrophic confiscation of assets to pay for somebody to do it for them, the laws made by our parliament have a purpose.
To protect the rich & influential from the rest of us, not the other way round
Yeah!! What do you know? Sounds like pub talk! @@mypointofview1111
They'll just use the law (made by parliament) of being declared bankrupt and not being liable for any current debts, after they've hidden and moved abroad all they have.
And rightly so. Letting homeless wi no regard for that property saying they looked after it but looking at them the dog they had was more like a cat big teeth how can a historic building be left to these folk that have no respect responsibility or any to offer except to be left to be ruined by the likes. Why not stop anything the have and there was enough of them be maid to pay for the damage
How can the council have the power to do this
That will require Turkish builders!
There gonna have trouble building that as it was ,on the piss ,brick work windows and doors , ha ha
That place was never ennthink special in the first place no history attached to it wot so ever folks use to go there to bloody roll a 2 penc coin on the counter i bet you coud do that on enny counter of a pub that old i bet if you asked enny of the staff the history of that pub i bet thay woodent hav a clue
It's easy enough to order someone to do something but if the pub owners haven't got the funds to do this they're stumped and the council can stamp its feet as much as it likes but the building won't get built. TBH as so many pubs are closing is it worthwhile rebuilding this just so's it can be closed down as soon as it starts trading again because of so few customers?
According to records they have plenty of money & if short should be made to sell any other property they own to pay .
It was an historic pub though, I don't live that far away, it's been a while since I went, but I believe it has plenty of custom still. It actually was crooked, you could roll a ping pong ball up a window ledge that looked as if it was sloping down! That's why it was so unique.
Another curry house
Crooked Council
Certainly not. Crooked Directors who owned it.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Why? This is a nonsense story. Everyone has nostalgia but the reason the pub was sold was because people weren't going. Its the same as people complaining about having local shops in villages that they like to have around but don't help financially support. It shouldn't be rebuilt. Pubs etc are closing left right and centre.
How do you know? Do you live near there? Do you know the background to the fire and demolition. Do you know the people who brought the land and what they had done in the past? Do your homework first. It was a very busy pub, just like the other one in Warwickshire that the same people destroyed.
They pave paradise and put up a parting lot ❤
@@shuddupeyafaceHas to be rebuilt as it was.
It was a key part of the history of one of the greatest regions on planet earth. The centre of industry for the entire world at one point. People have been going there for years but you have to drive to get there so it's a steady trickle of people rather than a huge gang of locals. Read about the Black Country and it's history and don't be so damn impertinent.
It's nothing like the shop analogy you made. Those shops shut because noone supports them. This pub was illegally destroyed without permission. They must put it back to the way it was.
what a bullshit. its not a listed building. its just some tourist atraction to be because someone couldnt build it properly some time ago.
You useless moron.... you obviously don't know the history before commenting.
You don't know anything. Good luck with that loser.
Skill issue
I’m staggered to understand why this pub should be re-built. The same ones who complain about it closing didn’t use it hence the reason for closure. Pubs are closing every day because they are losing a fortune but you end up with some lefties trying to make a name for themselves to feel important and never achieved anything in their lives 😳
It’s not about it being a pub, it’s about destroying a structure through arson and then bulldozing it without permission.
It could of been redeveloped. The owners could of sold it. Instead from memory they wanted to sell the plot for houses or something like that so broke the law.
I think the difference is that this pub has a loooong heritage and it must be preserved. I was fortunate to be able to visit it once back in 1989, when I worked for Morrison Shand in Dibdale Road in Dudley.
If that pub was so important it should have been a listed building. No one wanted to drink there which was the reason it closed, no one wanted to purchase it because it was dilapidated and falling down. A developer saw the opportunity and decided to make better use of the site
If it’s rebuilt then what ? Just some busy bodies who have achieved nothing in their lives trying to feel important by seeing themselves on the TV and newspapers. The building was not listed and it’s only a bunch of left wing councillors trying to make an example for their own needs
@@petermichiels8333You could say that about any building in the UK.
"I could make better use of it so I just bulldozed it".
Planning regulations are part of civilised society.
I'm glad they have to put it back.
That's as funny as fuck.
I'll bet they're seething!!
Ha! No more endless living in exotic locations. Life is so hard.
